Going through pixiv for more Guzma content and I have now seen several people mention that in the jp (og) version, Guzma says something slightly different regarding family. Looking at a jp playthrough on yt, he seems to say:

” そこのおぼっちゃんは オレさまが 壊してやったよ家を飛びだし...... 強くなりたいってスカル団に 来たりしてよ それなりに気に入ってたがよ生みの親に 親不孝にも 逆らうなんて ほどがある次はおまえよ! おまえが煙たいのは ふりはらってもまとわりつくからだ”

Google has a few available translations, with one saying that going against your biological parents is too much, while the other states that “There is no limit to going against one’s birth parents and one’s unfilial piety”. Judging from what I heard about this line from people who actually speak Japanese, the second one seems to be more accurate. In the en version he says:” Leaving home like that and wanting to get stronger and stronger. You had some real guts. Going so far as coming over to Team Skull. And rejecting your own mother?! That was impressive “. Especially the mention of “birth parents” (in the jp version) seems important here. I heard a lot from jp users that the woman in his parent’s house isn’t his mother, but rather his grandmother, since the woman’s age is set to “grandmother”.

Actually, now going back to the notes posted here, the REAL meaning of what Guzma said is a mix of the two translations above “I liked it to a certain extent”, but then “going against your real parents is the height of filial piety”, showing the he doesn’t seem to like going against your real parents (according to the author of the manga anyway). The definition for “filial piety” is respect towards ones parents and I can’t really figure out how “the height of filial piety” is negative- though the translation definitely has him drawing a line at going against one’s real parents (Google’s first translation states the following: “I destroyed that rich kid over there. He ran away from home... He wanted to get stronger and joined Team Skull. I liked him to a certain extent, but going against your biological parents and being unfilial is just too much. You're next! The reason you're annoying is because you keep clinging to me even when I try to shake you off.”)

Also, again, the author has connected this in a negative way and they certainly understand the source material better than google translate. Said author then connected that to Guzma’s father not actually being his real father, since he does go against him. Not having a “real family” growing up could be a major factor of satisfaction for him, especially since Alola is all about family (with him already excluded from society, a.k.a. the big family).

I always thought that the Ultra Recon Squad vanishing from the plot in USUM after the Team Rainbow Rocket postgame arc happens was a little weird and super noticeable.

Surely for a squad dedicated to exploring and studying alternate dimensions, a guy with his own pocket portal opener stealing villains from across the multiverse, (villains that ACCOMPLISHED THEIR GOALS and caused apocalypses in their home dimensions by the way!) in order to create a team with the goal of conquering the multiverse, that sort of thing is right up their alley and they could have easily intervened by having their Solgaleo and Lunala yeet them back to where they came from.

But then I figured, the reason why the Ultra Recon Squad sat this one out is because Team Rainbow Rocket decided to attack Aether Paradise, aka the organisation ran by Lusamine.

You know, Lusamine, the woman who promised them that she'd help them save their home dimension and stop Necrozma from destroying both Ultra Megalopolis and Alola. The same Lusamine that thoroughly BETRAYED THEM and Leeroy Jenkins-ed herself into the portal without telling them and fucked up so badly that she put potentially billions of lives at risk and nearly destroyed two entire civilisations.

To be fair, Rainbow Rocket was attacking Miss "I sure do like endangering your entire alien culture" Lusamine and her secret evil island lair, so I think the Ultra Recon Squad would be forgiven for not feeling overly encouraged to go help.

The second reason is because the URS saw that the Protagonist was on his/her way to help, the one who defeated their god with a magic singing fairy seal, and probably thought "Yeah, he/she's got this covered."

Despite Lillie being the one paired with Magearna in the anime, I absolutely adore the idea of Gladion being paired with it too! His sygna suit for their sync pair is so fitting 🥺🫶💗

Kukui had taken in a border, Ash . Ever since he took him in, there's been rumors floating around the town that Kukui's got a son. At first he brushed them off, but now even his colleagues are calling him "papa Kukui". Hell, he took Ash to a restaurant and the waiter asked Kukui "and for your son?".

Kukui, being the stubborn man he is, always says; "No, he's just my border and student." But now? Watching him play with his pokemon on all fours, baby voice and all, he comes to the horrifying realization that not only has he gotten incredibly attached to the kid, he's walked into fatherhood completely blind.

This wasn't how this was supposed to go, he was supposed to house and feed him for maybe a month and then say his goodbyes, never to think of the kid again. But here he is, casserole in his oven mitts, his pikachu apron that Ash bought for him because "I thought you'd like it!" on, smiling fondly at the boy without even realizing it, coming to the conclusion that; Molayne was right, I've become such a dad.

I may be a bit lazy in writing further thoughts on Horizons atm but be assured: I still love it a ton ton ton. It has not slowed down. Heck, I actually enjoy current slower pace chill arc because it gives us a moment to breathe before more heavy stuff comes their way. And they're doing a pretty good job at promoting Paldea 'mon, which I appreciate! (unlike certain other series <.< AHEM!)

We're fast approaching the first anniversary of Horizons thou, and that makes me wonder if it has any plans relating to it, or if it will end it's run before it. Judging by current eps, I'm expecting the series to last a bit longer, BUT, I expect Terapagos stuff to end before anniversary, or a bit past it. Not much reason to stall the Terapagos plot further than that.

Very excited to see how today's ep holds out and, I may have accidentally spoiled myself on a future ep.... oh boi.

I think everyone’s aware of how badly they butchered the entirety of team skull in the anime, but Plumeria specifically was just horrific.

Like Guzma, she gets introduced very late into the series, just 10 (?) episodes prior to him. However, unlike Guzma, her introduction was just bad. She shows up randomly during the average team skull mischief talking about telling the trio to do some task (which never gets explained or brought up again) and she just comes off as plain rude to the grunts. Being a bit rude fits her character to some extent, but we don’t see her show the least bit of care or affection towards them, which is just a big thing for her

From that point on she only appears to yap about Guzma, like seriously her 2nd appearance is to introduce Guzma and after that she just exposition dumps about Guzma’s past and character or looks concerned.

Not to mention, she literally gets one battle in the entire series. ONE. She didn’t even make it into the finals during the league???? Like c’mon. Imo she should’ve battled Ash/Hapu during her first appearance too, after wanting to leave at first but then getting convinced by the skull trio to kick his ass (just like what happened in the demo, like how Guzma’s first fight with Ash paralleled his first fight with the protagonist in game). Not only could’ve showed this how she cares about the other team skull members, but also how strong of a trainer she really is.
