Aloe tongaensis (Aloidendron tongaense)
This is one of a group of related tree aloes that have recently been assigned to a split-off genus named Aloidendron. This name change has yet to gain wide acceptance, and most nurseries, gardens and books have it labeled as Aloe tongaensis. The name refers to Tongaland, an area in the northeast corner of South Africa and the adjacent southern end of Mocambique. It does not experience freezes in its habitat, so we are growing it under the high canopy of a tree at the Ruth Bancroft Garden, since this gives it a measure of cold protection. The shady position also results in pale flowers, and I have included a second flower shot showing the more vivid orange color of the same plant when grown in full sun in the milder climate zone near San Francisco Bay. Ultimately, this species becomes a many-headed tree with a height of up to 26 feet (8 m).

Today in character's concept : Gül !
Gül (She/Her) is an orc. And where goblins are vegetables and fruits, Orcs are actually trees in this universe !
She's an Aloidendron Dichotomum and one of the guards in Marmiton ! Bigger than life, she loves a challenge and gets a bit bored in such a calm place... But who knows ? Maybe the arrival of our Hero might shake things up a bit !

Kumara plicatilis, formerly Aloe plicatilis, the fan-aloe, is a succulent plant endemic to a few mountains in the Fynbos ecoregion, of the Western Cape in South Africa. It may grow as a large multistemmed shrub or as a small tree. It is one of the two species in the genus Kumara. the other being Kumara haemanthifolia (= Aloe haemanthifolia) which occurs on high mountain peaks in the Hottentots Holland Mountains to Cold Bokkeveld Mountains.
Order:Asparagales
Family:Asphodelaceae
Subfamily:Asphodeloideae
Tribe:Aloeae
Genus:Kumara
Its Latin scientific name plicatilis also means "folded" or "pleated", or possibly "foldable"; it is in any case a misnomer because the leaves are nothing like plicate and do not fold. In the local Afrikaans language, Kumara plicatilis is commonly known as the waaier aalwyn (= 'fan aloe'). It is also called the kaapse kokerboom (= 'Cape quivertree') because of its resemblance to Aloidendron dichotomum. The stems are forked with clusters of strap-shaped leaves arranged in 2 opposite rows. The clusters resemble an open fan, hence the common name fan aloe. This unusual arrangement and shape of the leaves is what makes this species unique.
In the wild, Kumara plicatilis is confined to a tiny area in the Western Cape, between the town of Franschhoek and Elandskloof.
immunity. It is also used for diabetes treatment.

Wow, 430 followers! Thanks for the support guys. Here's some 'Aloidendron dichotomum' seedlings also known as 'Quiver tree' or the 'Kokerboom' in Afrikaans. I'll be posting more soon when I get home. Haven't been home for almost a month now, so I must say, quite excited to see what my plants are up to.

Quiver tree (aloidendron dichotomum) This wild looking plant gets its common name from the San people of Southern Africa who hollow out the branches to make quivers for holding arrows.

Went to the plant shop to check on their new shipments and took some photos of the ones I thought were cool! (They’re all very good but Collin and I were sharing plant photos)
Aeonium tabuliformis, which I sort of want but at the same time they don’t offset and die after flowering. :/
Aloidendron barberae, a tree aloe that was apparently raised from seed here in Seattle before ending up at the shop
Delosperma sp., a mesemb that shares a genus with your garden-variety ice plants.
This one wasn’t labelled but I would guess that this is a Crassula, guessing by the growth habit?
A small Platycerium, or staghorn fern
Mammillaria Gracilis in flower!
Pelargonium triste, a tuber-forming Geranium relative. (Or a Geranium in colloquial use because apparently it refers to both the genuses Pelargonium and Geranium)
Fenestraria aurantiaca

Aloe ramosissima (Aloidendron ramosissimum)
Like Aloe tongaensis, this is one of the tree-like branching species of Aloe recently moved into the genus Aloidendron. Not everybody accepts this re-classification, but it is the reason for the 2 names given above. This species is very close to the larger-growing Aloe dichotoma (Aloidendron dichotomum), with the same blimp-shaped vivid yellow flowers. As one can see from the photos, it has been raining around here! This species is found in southwestern Namibia and northwestern South Africa.

This is one of the most remarkable examples of landscape photography I have seen online. The otherworldly image first turned up on the NASA site, 'Astronomy Picture of the Day', for December 12, 2012.
The photograph, Quiver Tree Forest by Night, was taken in Namibia by Florian Breuer, a professor of mathematics at The University of Newcastle in Callaghan, New South Wales, Australia. Breuer grew up in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Breuer maintains a website featuring his photography.
‘Aloidendron dichotomum, formerly Aloe dichotoma, the quiver tree or kokerboom, is a tall, branching species of succulent plant, indigenous to Southern Africa, specifically in the Northern Cape region of South Africa, and parts of Southern Namibia.’ --Wikipedia
