Jaiden trauma dumps by accident. She will be having a perfectly normal conversation and then mention something horrible from her past without even meaning to.

Slime can't read a room to save his life, if embarrassement could kill that would be his main cause of death

He once lost control of his human form and left slime goo all over Wilbur right before a concert

Wilbur cannot handle spice.

Neither can Philza actually.

Niki in other hand has bitten peppers before and snacked on them.

Mouse is very open about the fact that she is a demon and she is very pleased that everyone on the Island just takes it in stride, since usually it freaks people out

Mouse is not saying she has partaken in eating human flesh before, but she is also not denying it.

Lenay has a criminal record. No one knows why and she has never answered either.

Tubbo talks with his machines and it freaked him the fuck out when they started to answer him (It's Arin and he is loving this new kid)

Quackity and Mouse once entered a competition on who could hold their breath for longer (The both passed out)

Philza thinks every sickness can be fixed with avocado toast and he will recomend it as legitimate medical treatment

Jaiden talks with parrots and they keep her on loop of all the gossip on the Island

It took Tina literally invoking the powers of hell to people realize she is a demon and not a rabbit hybrid and Mouse was incredibly excited to have a demon bestie

Foolish is in fact jealous

Niki is such a good baker that she has made people cry by how good her food is

Fit spends a lot of his time running around Tubbo and stopping him from poking where he shouldn't, Philza is just glad he has someone to share the babysitting duty

Slime is a light weight, one glass of wine and the man is gone

Niki is an lynx hybrid and she has hissed at people before. She also can sort of understand cats and they follow her around a lot.

Fit is in fact allergic to cats but every cat on the Island seems to really love him

Slime needs his glasses less than his bitch wife so he will sometimes take them off, but it causes a lot of confusion because people fail to recognize him without them

Lenay has a terrible sense of direction, she is just better at following people and hoping for the best

Philza's crows really like both Fit and Tubbo and will sometimes follow them around but get sometimes annoyed that they wouldn't understand them

Bad and Philza were coworkers for a time

Jaiden can't dance but she sure as hell likes to try

Lenay on the other hand is a good dancer but she doesn't usually do it

Tubbo is actually a duck hybrid but literally no ones believes him when he tells them that because all the ducks on the Island hate him

He falls asleep on the most random spots ever because it's less sleeping and more crashing, he doesn't even know where his bed is

Fit will sometimes thrown his mechanical arm at people. No reason but that he felt like doing it.

Bad uses his tail to hit people when they are being annoying.

Foolish once bite his tail in retaliation.

Day 123: Feather

cw: talks about minor injury treatment from a case.

"We've got to stop meeting like this," Harry bloody Potter slurred from his bed in St. Mungos. Draco ignored the bare, toned muscles of his torso (he was a professional after all) to focus on his left eye which was swollen shut and the three slashes from his left temple to his chin. The cuts ran across his lips, which probably accounted for the slurred speech.

"Potter," he said with a sigh, "You've got to stop getting yourself injured on cases."

He shrugged a shoulder and Draco's eyes were drawn to the movement and the smooth, delectable curve of his shoulder, "Who can blame me when the healers are as beautiful as you?" he asked and the little lines like that always confused the hell out of Draco.

"You're delusional," he replied as he cast a series of diagnostic spells to get a better understanding of what he was looking at. "And you're not wearing your glasses," he added, "you've got no business calling anyone beautiful; you're practically blind."

Harry laughed, "I've seen you before, you know."

"Yes," he replied, moving over to the cabinets to get out some basic cleansing potions. "I believe your descriptors then were something to the effect of slimy and pointy."

"That was years ago," he protested. "Besides, at that point you were saying flattering things like calling my hair a bird's nest."

"Your hair is still a bird's nest," he replied without missing a beat even though it wasn't really true anymore. Potter had grown his hair out and the curls were actually quite lovely. In fact, on the rare occasion that he allowed himself to fantasize, Potter's hair slipping through his fingers as he kissed him was always a highlight. But Potter definitely didn't need to know that. "Wound cleaning potion," he said as he uncorked the vial. "You can-"

"Don't forget," Potter interrupted, "I'm allergic-"

"To Jabberknoll feathers," he finished. "I know. Lucky for you I'm not giving you any truth telling potions today." Potter huffed at him but he continued, "Lay down on your side so I can get your wounds cleaned out."

"They're used in memory potions, too, you know," Potter said as he complied and collapsed onto his side.

"Are they? I'd no idea," he said sarcastically as he carefully detangled Potter's hair from the places it was sticking to the cuts.

The other man winced as the hairs were pulled free.

"Sorry," Draco murmured.

"S'alright," he replied. "Not your fault."

He cast a spell to protect Potter's eyes and then started to carefully pour the cleansing potion on the wound. The potion hissed and bubbled as it sterilized and Potter winced. He was sure that didn't feel nice. He hummed in sympathy, "What caused this by the way?"

Once he'd dried all the excess Potter said, "You're not going to believe this but it was a house cat."

"A house cat," he deadpanned. "Really, Potter."

"I'm serious!" he protested. Then with a little smile he said, "The nine year old's accidental magic made it the size of a lion but it was just a house cat."

He laughed and shook his head, "You're ridiculous."

Potter smiled, that soft pleased look that made Draco's heart trip over itself.

"Dittany," Draco said as he poured it over the gashes and watched with satisfaction as a puff of smoke rose up and Potter's skin knitted itself back together. "It's going to take you a little time to grow that patch of your beard back," Draco said, trailing his forefinger lightly over the new skin on Potter's chin before stepping back.

"I'll live," Potter said as he sat up and ran his fingers over the recently healed skin.

"Yes, you do have an annoying penchant for that, don't you?" he teased.

Potter grinned at him, "Death and I have an agreement."

He laughed, "I almost believe you." Draco jotted down the notes in his chart and said, "Alright, Potter, you're all set. And you're right," he said as he turned toward the door. "We do need to stop meeting like this."

"How about we meet for drinks instead?" Potter blurted.

He froze and replayed the last few seconds in his head, he must have misheard him.

"Or dinner," Potter offered. "I'd very much like to take you out to dinner."

"What?" he asked, turning around to stare at the other man.

Potter rubbed the back of his neck, "Or even like a cup of coffee if you'd rather?" he offered.

"Potter, are you flirting with me?"

He scratched his beard, "I have been for the past six months, but thanks for noticing."

He opened his mouth but no words came out.

"Or not," Potter said, turning to grab his shirt and pulling it on over his head. "Forget it, yeah?" he said as he shoved his glasses on his face and scooped up his auror robes before he slipped past Draco toward the door. "Thanks for patching me up," he added.

"Potter," he called just as the other man reached the handle, "Harry," he corrected.

The other man turned and raised an eyebrow.

"I get off at six," he said weakly. "I'm sure I'll be hungry."

Harry perked up, "There's an amazing Thai place not far from here. I'll meet you," he offered.

"I'd like that," he replied, his mouth curving up into a grin without his permission.

Harry just grinned back at him for a moment before darting in and pecking him on the cheek. He disappeared just as quickly. "See you at six," he called as he left the room.

Draco's fingers came up to trail over the spot that Harry's lips had been just a moment before, "See you at six," he managed, leaving the room in time to see Potter disappearing around the corner.

He glanced over to see that several of the other healers were standing at the station in the hall watching him.

"He asked me on a date," he said helplessly.

"Finally," several voices replied at once.

"If I had to listen to him ask for Healer Malfoy to treat him one more time," Roberta said with a laugh.

Nancy nodded, "Isn't Healer Malfoy free?" she parroted. "That boy has been smitten for months."

"No more smitten than you, though," Hugh said, nudging Draco's shoulder.

"I'm not smitten!" he protested.

Everyone laughed at him and they spent the rest of the day teasing him but Draco supposed that was okay. He had a date with Harry Potter to look forward to.

11. Rika

LMFAO bet ya didn't expect that did ya!? Nah you probably did, anyway the reason why she's the least reliable for a pet it's kinda obvious, first of all, she would refuse to get her pet treatment when it almost turns blind and ma'am? Please help your dog???

Also if at any time the pet dies she would start another cult so let's not risk it with her. Instead of an animal maybe give her a rock instead pfttt (actually wait-no she'd probably throw it at our poor mint coloured hair boy just give her a dog plushy it smth she can't be trusted with alive things)

10. Saeyoung

You may be asking me, Amanda, why, Saeyoung absolutely loves cats he'd be a cool cat dad, and yes, you're right. But you also don't understand that this man's love for cats goes SO far that he will actually cause chaos all around him. He'd give the cat SO many treats, not only that, but he'd also cuddle them, and that's nice tight? Wrong. This man will try to stretch the cat, grab it and twirl it around, reenact the lion king and do the 'Simba' bit and everything. Not only that he'd completely use it to prank Zen and everyone else, overall, he'd be a great pet owner but it'd be too much chaos so let's just stick with loving cats from afar.

Also I feel like he'd get a snake for some reason, and he'd dress them up in like a fancy bowtie a hat, or an iguana or chameleon y'know? He'd go for the amphibian type :o

9. Ray

I love our boy, I really do, but honestly how do you expect him to take care of a dog if he can't take care of himself. 😢

Actually scratch that, if he had a dog he would definitely love it and spoil it, and we live for that but also:

honey focus on yourself too we don't want you to D I E

Maybe give him a hamster or smth, while he's hacking away and watching MC in their room the hamster will be spinning on it's wheel super happy

Or he can have some cute fishes 🐟🐠

And like his brother, because great minds think alike, maybe a chameleon. He'd be pretty scared of them at first but he found one under some flowers and decided to rescue it, and now he sort of ended up adopting it :D

Although I find it pretty unlikely that he'll get a pet, he's more into flowers anyway

(OH WAIT WHAT ABOUT BEES? YA LIKE JAZZ -im sorry pft but now I need to see Ray in like those bee farmer dress things lmao)

8. Zen

I could see him as the pet owner that takes their dogs on walks and such, but honestly, if he's allergic to cats he's probably allergic to other animals too, at least some with a lot of hair! Although I feel like he'd get one of those big dogs and he'd go on runs with it all the time. The dog would be like the ones that are mostly thought of as super dangerous or aggressive but it turns out they're a sweetheart. Either that or a poodle 🐩💀 (but like I said, he's probably allergic to animals with lots of hair.)

7. Jihyun

Jihyun would be pretty good as a pet owner but honestly he'd be super nervous at everything at first. Welcome to the Jihyun apologizing to his pet show akdjdn. But would we trust him with a pet? He wasn't really able to take care of two teenage boys -although it was mostly because he was in a toxic relationship 💀

When he has his sight problems he could totally get those helper dogs? (Forgot what they're called I'm sorry T_T)

He'd probably get a more chill pet tho, maybe a cat (he probably likes them a lot too! Also they're pretty calming.) So he could have like the guide dog and a small kitty too!

6. Jaehee

She'd be an awesome pet mom lol. I don't think she'd get a cat after being traumatized from pet-sitting Elizabeth. Maybe she could get like a turtle 🐢

Or maybe a rat to reenact Ratatouille lmaoo

She wouldn't get big pets unless the MC wanted to adopt something (and if they're a couple, we all know what people who want kids but can't or just aren't able to adopt at the moment, do, they get DOGS AND CATS!!!)

So honestly she'd start understanding why Jumin pampers Elly so much, since your dogs basically your child now PFTTT

Maybe a bunny too? I could see her working with the bunny on her head lmao and that's adorable

5. Suit Saeran

You may be wondering once again, WHAT AND WHY

Let me explain.

Suit would dffinetly get those scary and big dogs that have spiky collars and everything, and he'd probably call him something like Killer or Skull Destroyer, or maybe Blade lmao

And we all know he'd die for his dog. It's the only one he can trust ajdhdbdbd

He'd be like the bad boys that walk around with their dog everywhere growling at people (not just the dog, the two of them)

And "Spike" would be so well taken care of. Believers have to start doing draws to see who feeds the monster dog that always bites them PFTTT

The dog would also dffinetly know how to fight. It'd be cute if the only person he likes appart from Saeran tho is MC hehe

AND you cannot change my mind in this, ever since Saeran got "Dark Knight" (I'm experimenting with the dog names pfft) he's shown him a picture of Saeyoung and taught him to absolutely hate his guts, so Seven, buddy, maybe don't get to close to them lol

AND the backstory for this dog is that Saeran found him under some bushes, hurt, and the dog reminded him of when he was younger, so he took him in and that's how the doggie came to be :3

3. GE Saeran

Idk, he'd also get the normal-ish animals, like a bunny or a cat (he'd like how calming they are.)

He'd be awesome with animals too!

Also uhm, someone please draw him as a farmer AJDHDHD lmaoo that's the first thing that came to mind 😂

He'd be the person that likes animals but like....other people's animals? He'd love to see Elizabeth and such, but he wouldn't really want to have one (unless MC wanted to of course.) It's not that he doesn't like them, it's mostly because he feels more comfortable with other people's pets ajdjdbd

Also he doesn't want them to ruin the garden oop

3. In a tie with Saeran, Yoosung

I forgot about him and didn't want to change the numbers lmao

Yoosung is a vet, c'mon he knows how to deal with animals!

At first he'd be so freaking nervous and would be just like a helicopter parent, making sure the doggie is alright and such, but then he gets the hang of it and he's perfect.

We all know we got a bunny with him too in his GE :D so maybe a dog and a bunny! He'd have more than one pet I'll tell ya that.

2. Jumin

Listen he's the king alright? He pampers his cat SO much, and you can just TELL how much he loves Elly. We all stan a man that loves animals.

He'd probably get some exotic pets too, maybe a few horses and birds that are really exotic or something

But can you imagine him with like....a tiger PFT

He'd be like: omg this is a cat but bigger let me have one

It'd be like Sebastian from Black Butler lol

He'd also be up to a dog, it'd take a bit of convincing but if MC wants one then he'd snap his fingers and get them one immediately (I love this man he's so ADORABLE) and then they'd have two children and Zen wouldn't have to worry about just Elizabeth

1. Vanderwood

Yes! The one! The only!

He's the only one appart from Jaehee that has more than one braincell PFTTTTT

He'd have a pretty big and scary dog that would've an absolute sweetheart when you get to know them. Everyone at first is scared but the dog just wants to sleep and eat, that's all.

Vanderwood is super responsible, I mean after Saeyoung I'm sure a dog would be nothing. He'd also compare Seven to his dog lol "Not even Capitan America is that dirty!"

"you named your dog Capitan America...?"

"shut the hell up or I'm tasing you."

His dog would spend all day sleeping. Sometimes Vanderwood will take him on walks, and they really enjoy that time together.

Vanderwood romance route? Uh, no he's far too in love with his dog to be doing anything else PFT

And you cannot once again change my mind on this:

He talks to his dog when he's alone.

He will tell him about his day as he cooks or does the laundry. He'd be in an apron making some dinner and be all like:

"Ugh, today I had to take care of that no-good for nothing guy again. It's incredible how messy his house can get in just a matter of hours! Not only that, he wasn't eating properly again, that idiot. I had to practically drag him out of his chair and make him eat some food. Not that I'm worried. It'd just be a hassle to have to find another hacker as good as him. Seriously that guy...."

Because this is a rant. Beware.

I'm a v3getarian. I'm all for ethical treatment of animals. But if you use PETA as a source to argue for ethical treatment if animals... Don't. They're the least humane "animal rights" group out there. Also if your arguments for why people should give up meat amd/or animal products overlook people who can't go v3getarian or v3gan due to medical conditions, and if you act like plant-based agriculture is ethical and cruelty-free, you need to take a step back and evaluate yourself and your ideals.

I'm getting so fucking sick of other v3getarians abd v3gans not looking outside their middle-upper class communities and able-bodied friend groups. I'm autistic and have problems with a lot of foods. I became anemic when I stopped eating meat and have to take supplements to make up for the gaps in my diet. But I'm fortunate over many people who are are allergic to many of the meat and dairy substitutes. Have you noticed how many of our substitutes include soy and tree nuts, which are among the most common food allergies?

Cruelty-free production, yeah? What about the plantation workers harvesting our bananas and quinoa from sunrise to sunset? Sometimes it harms the animals we so want to help too. Remember learning about agricultural runoff in science? All the pesticides and herbicides that run into streams or evaporate into the atmosphere. Forests and homes are destroyed by acid rain, fish and other animals are poisoned by polluted streams - and what about humans in areas where they don't have access to water filtration or bottled water, who have no choice but to drink the polluted water?

I'm a teaching major, I know that I really should include a reference list, but I'm just kinda irked and ranting off the facts off the top of my head. Really, if you're shaming people for eating meat or drinking milk, maybe you should do your own fucking research instead of parroting ableist, animal-abducting and killing PETA or That racist, ableist, manipulative V3gan Teaching Impersonator? I'm not saying to start consuming meat or eggs or milk again, but maybe, just maybe stop wcting superior and look outside your social circle. There's no such thing as living 100% cruelty free. You can limit or improve your impact, you can advocate for more humane farming and agricultural practices, but throwing a hissy fit at a small dairy farmer or that guy over there eating a chicken salad isn't helping anything.

What's everyone's reaction too a kitten?

(It's going to be sort of like when it lives with the others and how they deal with that.)

Scout!: After finding a kitten outside of the base, the first thing he'll do is probably place his baseball in front of the tiny creature and see if it'll play with it. He'd just like to watch the kitten and see what it'll do, and probably pick it up and dance with it to Tom Jones while cradling it in his arms. If anyone dares to touch his now rightfully owned kitten (Despite the agreement of everyone equally sharing the cat.) he can and will shout, "Woah, woah, woah! The hell?" Basically he's very protective of the kitten.

Soldier!: Being alone with the kitten will probably result in Soldier trying to make this new, small kitten a strong soldier. He'd place a rather large helmet in front of it and watch as it snuggles against it and paws at it. And he'd talk to it about Sun Tzu for hours until the kitten walks away to their new bowl for food, or simply crawl into Soldier's lap and snuggle like a cinnamon roll.

"And, from that day forward-! ... *In a whisper* Anytime a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a Tzu.."

Sniper!: Well, one things clear, he'd place the cute thing in one of those baby carrying things you strap to your chest and call the kitten, "Roo", walking around casually once he's in charge of the kitten. He just doesn't want the kitten to get lost in a big and weapon filled place like this, so he keeps the kitten in a quiet place for now, like his trailer.

"It's my Roo,"

"But, that's a cat-"

"You dare tell me otherwise, mate? It's my Roo and you all can deal with yourselves."

Heavy!: Is absolutely terrified, mainly because of his strong and tough nature he doesn't want to crush the tiny thing, I mean, it fits in the palm of his hand like a jelly bean. Still, he's very, very protective of it and will care for it like a little baby. He will definitely watch the kitten play with toys they can chase while he reads quietly once he's done watching, the kitten will become peaceful by his much more calm nature and stick close to him and rest in his lap, that's when he feels safe about him touching the kitten.

Pyro!: Becomes much more happy than they already are! Snuggles, nuzzles, pets the kitten non stop! The kitten doesn't seem frightful by their mask and muffled voice, which Pyro is very happy over, everyone else seems so shy and.. almost scared around them. That's okay by them, at least! Will get the cutest cat toys and collars. Let's the kitten lay on their stomach or chest while they sleep, in so much peace and love by this small animal.

Engineer!: Oh. My. God.

"Can ah' keep it?"

He will become all giggly and cheerful around it, petting it and building it a giant cat house no problem. Just like Sniper, he's scared about the kitten wondering off in this dangerous work space and getting hurt by a bomb or a weapon of any kind, so he likes to keep it close in his workshop. And he'll absolutely build it a tiny hard hat, giggling and smiling at it happily.

Medic!: When he first sees the cat, he'll make sure it has all it's shots and proper medical treatments, yes, he is a doctor for humans, but he knows a thing or two about felines (And much.. much more..). That doesn't mean he particularly likes it, he's worried it'll attack his doves and scratch up his paperwork. So, if he does come across the kitten he'll simply look at it, quirk a brow and walk away and leave it to whatever it wants to do. Not that he cares.

Demoman!: Prefers dogs more than cats, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like it! He would like to place it on top of his benie and shoulder like it's a parrot.

"Whatcha got there, lassy/lad- Oh, bloody hell-! Not me bombs-!"

Yeah.. he'll have to be careful where he leaves the cat, especially in his profession, ESPECIALLY when he's drunk, although, he'll probably just keep calling the kitten a taco- but, that's just Demo for ya'.

Spy!: Well.. he's allergic. Not only that, he despises cats, they might be a symbol of royalty, but to him, it's an annoying trinket that leaves fur everywhere and follows you around. Which is what the kitten does, almost like a duckling with it's mother.

"Can you not? I am not picking you up."

Next thing he knows, the next morning the whole chest of his silk pajamas is covered in fur, will throw a mild fit because of his constant sneezing but eventually gets over it.

Miss Pauling: Because of her job, she constantly sees the kitten a few times a day and is in love when the team shows her.

"Oh, my gosh- okay, please tell me you have a name for it. I mean, if you don't I will gladly name it."

She's just very happy because in her profession she can't be around to care for a kitten.

Hell hath no fury like a medic scorned

Ayana has known Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi extraordinaire, since he was a wee little pubescent boy. As such they picked up on his habit's and mannerisms that are not obvious at first glance.

 For example, Obi-Wan has a tendency to forget meals, especially if he missed breakfast. He can go on like this until someone points it out to him or very rarely until he passes out from low blood sugar. It’s not that he tries to starve himself but he just sometimes forgets that eating is an essential of staying alive. That's why carrying a few extra protein bars always comes handy.

 He will never let it show if something bothering him or if he disagrees with an opinion, he has too much patience and restraint for that. However, Ayana also knows that if tired enough, in good company and maybe with a bit of Corelian brandy he'll relax enough to let his frustrations out.

On a memorable occasion they brought over a tin of very nice tea to share with him after he returned from a mission only to find out Obi-Wan's allergic to the Ajuga berries that were inside.  A short visit to the halls of healing and a scolding from Master Che and they were back to sipping from a nice hot cup but Ayana was always a bit more careful about the contents of their tea afterwards.

 They also know that the line ''This weapon is your life'' he likes to parrot around applies to himself as much as it does to Anakin. They pity Commander Cody already.

 Over the years Ayana was able to curb some of Obi-Wan's more self-destructive tendencies. His overall aversion to any kind of medical facility or receiving treatment for injuries, however, is something they were never able to cure, no matter how hard they tried. It really is a miracle that they're friends at all considering their profession.

 Then again before this war started Ayana was rarely the one seeing to Obi-Wan's day-to-day health. Which brings us back to our current situation where he was trying to convince Stitches that he's fine and they can see the trooper losing that battle.

Because no matter how we'll they trained them they're still too shiny to stand their ground to a general. Guess they just need an example.

 Ayana steps out from the corner where they have been observing the conversation.

 The look he gives Ayana is of pure annoyance but reluctantly Obi-Wan sits back down on the bed. ''Of course, my apologies Lieutenant.'' Ayana gives him one last glare before handing things back over to Stitches.

 This is too easy.

Normally you would have to restrain or sedate him for him to lie still and yet this is exactly what Obi-Wan is doing right now. The whole thing stinks.

They get back to work but keeps a close eye on him as a precaution taking care to make it seem as if they're not paying attention.

Low and behold not even an hour later Ayana sees him tippy towing from the bed while no one is looking trying to sneak away from the medbay.

 He really should know by now that they don't do empty threats.

so unlike his children, i think fh actually does enjoy most foods.  i think he enjoys trying new, exotic cuisines, and i think he has a fairly sophisticated palette (which means i’m SUPER unqualified to answer this).  i don’t think he actually has a favorite food necessarily--he certainly has preferred dishes.  if he were to actually answer, he’d probably say veal because of the implications (the aesthetic of lobster is also nice, the whole boiling an animal alive thing, except lobster really is Glorified Peasant Trash and he actually doesn’t eat it unless he’s a guest and that’s what’s being served).  if he were to actually think on it, the absolute best food he’s ever had was when he was 17 and on family business in Louisiana and was served 3 am jambalaya.  he hasn’t eaten it since though because he knows nothing will live up to the memory of how good it was.

cannot even draw a stick figure.  certainly has no capacity for framing when he takes pictures.  theoretically he appreciates and enjoys art, but deep down he actually doesn’t really understand what makes a work “good” or “important” aside from parroting researched talking points.

his lab.  possibly his study.  not his bedroom, certainly.  beds are too informal and offer no back support.

15. What was the last thing they cried about?

crying generally isn’t his go-to for when he’s sad.  the last time he actually produced tears (aside from a pure physical response from, like, toxic fumes or something) out of grief was...damn.  i’m not sure.  he certainly experiences sadness and disappointment and grief, but he just doesn’t typically cry when that happens.  possibly when his mother died.

depending on age or personal aesthetic for the day, in my mind it’s either

impeccably trimmed and slicked back.  doesn’t look dyed because there’s streaks of silver and grey, but it’s actually heavily chemically enhanced and processed to make sure it’s the right level of grey mixed in with black

The Same Old Story

@isashi-nigami and I recently had a conversation that sparked me to write this (very long) message about parrots in captivity. Thank you for advising me to write this, hopefully it’s decently written.

This is a mashed up collection of various stories in the cycle so commonly seen in captive parrots’ lives.

You buy a bird from a shop and buy all the supplies there. Put them in a cage, snip up their wings, give them seeds and grit to help it go down, provide sand perches and dowels, and watch this little baby coo and cuddle up to your chest. Life is great and you’ve just gotten a new parrot, a little bitty baby that’s just been weaned. They’ve a bit of an attitude from the novelty of being fed solid foods but you find it adorable. It’s a bit of snarky character that’s laughable.

This little one has brought you so much joy, you can do anything with them. They trust you and let you hold them on their back, they like to snuggle up with you for a nap, and they love sitting on your shoulder like a pirate’s bird.

And then something happens. A few months or years of bliss come to a sharp end as this little bitty baby is starting to grow up. They start to scream and shake the cage bars, trying to bend their way out. A sweet little angel who once stepped up from anywhere is now flighty and aloof, biting whenever approached. They now chase you across the floor, nipping at any unguarded toes and causing a few nasty bites. The baby you once knew is now sitting on your shoulder making little squeaks that are making you uncomfortable, and when you look up what it means, you feel even more awkward.

This little bird, one meant to be a conversation starter, or a first pet of your child, maybe something eye-catching for you to admire, or possibly the companion that was meant to relieve your anxiety. Has now bitten your child, burnt a hole through your wallet, caused your marriage to begin to fall apart, awoken the neighbors at 2 am, and disturbed you greatly with constant sexual advances. It’s enough to drive a person mad, and you’ve absolutely had it.

This bird was meant to help you, to be an interesting part of your house, meant to have given your children something to work on. Not something to ruin your life, your relationships, your savings. It’s over.

And another bird ends up in a rescue with a hundred others to be tended to, or ends up in a generic shelter where it’s care is completely unknown, maybe on craigslist where a flipper that seems sincere sends their life careening through a dozen more homes.

These stories are all too common for so many captive birds, especially parrots. They’re gotten because someone believes they’d be cool to have. Until they grow up. This is why every day when I go onto craigslist, I cry. Why whenever I see a new ad pop up, my mind spins with the possibilities, with the story of that bird, with the love or neglect they’ve gone through.

So many rescues are filling up, and normal shelters can’t take in these birds because their care is simply too complex. New parrot rescues are popping up across the US and other countries, and they cannot keep up. So many birds are bred each year and so many of these birds will later be abandoned once puberty hits or a child gets bitten or someone realizes they’re allergic.

Parrots are incredibly intelligent animals that don’t deserve this treatment and cannot take this treatment. They’re incredibly misunderstood and very few people get as far as even researching parrots, much less finding good resources and information.

People don’t read them correctly, it’s always put the blame on the bird, not try again and read their body language.

It’s not my fault I bit you, you weren’t reading me correctly.

It’s not my fault I scream, you don’t give me as much attention as a flock.

It’s not my fault I pluck, you don’t provide what I’d have in the wild.

It’s not my fault I’m “aggressive,” you’re putting human labels on me.

It’s not my fault I don’t talk, that’s not why you should have gotten me.

Parrots are all around misunderstood animals that do not belong in captivity. There’s plenty in rescues to prove that and there’s even more research out there to drive home my point.

While parrots do not belong in captivity, that doesn’t mean we should all stop paying attention to them. On the contrary, we need more people to learn and understand the plight of parrots and start getting these birds in need into loving homes. The world needs more people who understand and care for parrots and other exotics that don’t do well in captivity.

I can only dream of a world where parrots were never taken from their nests and thrown into cages. A world where parrots are only born in trees and hollows and not into boxes and containers. Where parrots never need to know the confinement of cages or the feeling of their flight feathers being cut off.

But what I can do in this world is continue to educate, inform, and eventually give a home to birds in need. Give a home to birds who never want to touch a human again, who never knew the taste of anything but seed, and who could never experienced the comfort a bit of space and time can bring.

And I don’t want to be alone in this and I know I’m not. There are lots of people out there who advocate for the wellbeing of parrots, I’m just trying to spread the word. To those capable, to those with a big enough heart, and to those who can live with a bit of insanity as a major part of your life. There needs to be more people informed of and caring for unwanted parrots and birds.

Please help educate about parrots, and as always, adopt don’t shop.

I have no memory whatsoever of who tagged me for this 10 facts thing but I know at least one person did so... here we go

1. I can do a really good grudge/ possessed girl impression. So much so that when I was in the car with me dad and I told him it scared people and he didn’t believe me, I performed it and he got so spooked he almost crashed the car. He made me promise to never do that in a moving vehicle ever again

2. I am a frighteningly heavy sleeper. Once we were on an overnight coach trip and got stuck in the most obnoxious, honking traffic for hours. I have to believe what people tell me about that, because slept through the entire thing. Another time our burglar alarm went off at 2am and didn’t stop for 45 minutes. Again, I just have to trust my family on that one, because I slept through the entire thing. The alarm is next to my bedroom

3. I am responsible for getting child services called on our family twice. Once because baby Crayonmod jumped off a window ledge to try and fly and broke her arm, another because baby Crayonmod decided the painkillers tasted really nice and ate an entire bottle of them and had to be rushed to the hospital. I am very sorry, mum and dad

4.  One of my life goals is to cage dive with sharks. I love sharks so much.

5. I met Matt Smith once! And then I cried and I don’t know why.

6. I have been an extremely energetic person my entire life- including in the womb. I was apparently SUCH an energetic little fetus that the hospital was concerned for the discomfort my movement was causing my mum, and I got the cord around my neck not once, but three times and nearly died during birth- hence emergency C-section. This resulted in a slightly blue and VERY thin baby Crayonmod with a full head of black hair- my baby photos are terrifying

7. I have an odd memory skill- I have huge trouble remembering faces, names, dates and short term things, but I can remember entire passages of text and audio, word for word beat for beat, and have been able to do this my whole life. It makes me great at remembering song lyrics, and I have a memory of quoting an entire storytape to the dinner table just because my grandpa said I couldn’t.  - The best was it got me out of my final project at school when I was 10: We had to research a famous person and give an oral performance on their legacy and were given a month to prepare. I  chose Samuel Morse, creator of Morse Code and did nothing. There was a short documentary on him and his work on TV I’d seen, and I literally just parroted the entire thing, in costume, to the class. I got a gold star :D

8. I have a weird allergy. I’m not allergic to nuts, and I’m not allergic to raincoat material, but if I eat nuts with raincoat material touching my skin, I break into a bloody rash

9. One day I want to get back on stage in musical theatre. Really badly.

10. I went through a MASSIVE Vampire phase when I was about 8. I would wear all black, stayed out of the sun, avoided garlic (sad times) pulled out my dresser drawer and shoved a camping mattress in there as a makeshift coffin, pretended that going to church hurt me, watched ALL the vampire videos I could online, tried SUPER HARD to be nocturnal, went nuts for red foods (except ketchup because fuck ketchup) and would watch TV only while hidden away in the wardrobe to pretend it was my tomb. I’d also just... hiss at people. For no reason.

Bonus: I started writing a story during that phase about a special boarding school for vampires to go to since they couldn’t live in the human world, which I’ve started revisiting as a new story :D Now it’s about a vampire treatment facility where you can send your vampire kin to in order to help them fit into human society. Think of it like blood rehab
