WHY IS THERE A SHOOTING AT A MALL?!?!
I live close by, and this IDIOT just FUCKING opened fire on people!! AND KIDS TOO!
This is all I know :
Currently a 5 year old is hospitalized and at least 10 more people. However, there may be more victims.
Currently, shooter is dead. However, there could be another one.
They were close to the H&M store.
The police went through their car.
The time the shooting happened was 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
The mall was packed with people because there was a deal going on.

When a mass shooting happens, Republicans tend to blame mental health issues, while Democrats blame it on the guns. Has your research shown what the real causes are?
I can tell you from my research that a relatively small percentage of mass shooters are seriously mentally ill—schizophrenic, for example. A lot of them are unhappy, depressed, life is generally not going well for them and they want to end it. But first, they want to take with them other people that they consider responsible, or at least share their misery with.
Should we still improve and expand mental health resources in this country? Absolutely. Because millions of Americans could benefit, but mass shooters, or would-be mass shooters, are unlikely to take you up on the offer. They tend to see themselves as the victim of injustice, whether it be at work or at home, or just in society with their group. They want fair treatment—they don’t want the psychological kind, because they don’t see that as a problem in them, it’s a problem in society or other people. We should still expand mental health treatment, but it will have a relatively small impact on mass shootings, whereas certain gun restrictions will have a bigger impact.
Now let me also say this: mass shootings tend to generate the most energy in the gun control debate. But, ironically, they’re the type of gun crime that’s probably least impacted by those laws. We have over 20,000 gun homicides a year, and then we have even more suicides by guns. That’s where the big bite of crime can be taken by certain gun restrictions. Mass shootings are a very small percentage.
Plus, one thing about mass shooters is they’re very determined individuals. They don’t just suddenly snap and go berserk and just so happen to have an AR-15 in the trunk of their car for such an occasion. These are well-planned executions—in fact, a majority of mass shooters plan for over a month what they’re going to do. And if they can’t get a gun legally, they’ll find another way, because they are that determined.

TX State Rep Makes Emotional Plea for Gun Reform After Deadly Mall Shooting
"There is no safe place in America anymore" — This Texas state rep made an emotional plea for gun reform, two days after a massacre at an outlet mall that killed 8 people.
"There's no school that's safe, there's no shopping mall that's safe, there's no library that's safe," state Rep. Gene Wu (D) continued. "Not because of books. Not because of trans kids who want health care, but because of [guns] that people own."
Yesterday, Wu's colleagues in the TX state legislature voted to advance bill that would raise the legal age to purchase assault weapons from 18 to 21, in a win for several gun safety activists who protested at the Capitol that afternoon.

a teacher appreciation week question
a mass shooting occurred at a shopping mall right next to where I work (a high school).
my students live right next to this mall. They shop there, they work there. Hell, i shop there!
and I've started getting messages from them, telling me that they don't feel safe, that they're confused, they're shocked. I am looking up the best ways to respond to these messages, to validate their emotions, but...
I am an English teacher--when did responding to mass shootings and their emotional fallout become part of the job description? I do not feel equipped to do any of this, but my students trust me and are reaching out. What do I say? How do I help them find peace when I myself don't feel peace about this?
Anyways, words of encouragement would be appreciated. really, really appreciated.

It’s another big “thoughts and prayers” weekend in Texas!
Gunman Kills 8, Injures 7 in Mass Shooting at Allen Outlets

Those 2nd Amendment extremists can celebrate their free-dumb even more now.
The far right NRA governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, doesn’t want Texans to dwell on all those corpses that keep piling up in his state under his watch. So he’s creating a distraction by bussing more migrants to Chicago.
In letter to Chicago mayor, Gov. Abbott vows to keep busing migrants

Allen PD officer: Hero in truest sense
It happens to me every time I drive by the highway exit in Allen, Texas: I think of the shooting that occurred in May 2023 at the Allen Outlet Premium Mall. It was a hugely tragic event that ended when an Allen police officer, who happened to be at the mall answering an unrelated call shot the madman to death. However, the end came too late for nine victims who were gunned down by the…

Some good news from a few hours ago! In surprise move days after Allen mall shooting, Texas House panel OKs bill raising age to buy semi-automatic rifles. The bill still has a way to go before getting passed, it is now moving up to the Calendars committee.
I do want to hype this bill up because the ripple effect it could have on the gun control laws in other states if it is codified would be absolutely massive.

I love Where I Am From But FUCK
On Saturday, a 33-year-old, Nazi-sympathizing gunman armed with an assault rifle killed eight people and wounded seven others at a popular shopping mall in Allen, TX, a suburb of Dallas. Among the victims were two elementary-school students. A mass shooting is typically defined as the killing of four or more people. Texas has seen almost one a month in the past year. What have Texas Republicans been doing in that time? Making guns even more accessible, not less.
Less than a year has elapsed since the horrific school shooting in Uvalde, TX, where 19 children and two teachers were murdered at the local elementary school. Months later, the state senator representing Uvalde was told to stop bringing up gun-control legislation or face being barred from speaking at all. Multiple mass shootings have occurred in Texas in the intervening months, as gun control remains a non-starter in the GOP-dominated State Capitol.
Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) has made a big display of attending vigils for victims of each massacre, while simultaneously ensuring that gun massacres remain a uniquely American (and especially Texan) horror. He again said he would not regulate firearms and justified it with the false claim that mass shootings have no relationship with the strictness of a state’s gun-control laws, insisting that the “root cause” is “mental health problems.” As a nation, we’re forced to go through this whole disgusting song and dance every couple of months: A mass shooting occurs, Republican politicians offer their hollow “thoughts and prayers,” do nothing to tighten gun control, blame mental-health issues, then do nothing to address mental-health issues either. Abbott has cut over $200 million in funding from the state agencies that provide mental health services.

The Allen mall shooter turned out to be a white supremacist (shocking, I know.) who had Nazi tattoos all over their body and listed LibsOfTikTok and Tim Pool as inspirations for the shooting and the right are scrambling to make excuses. Calling him a “psyop” to “make the right look bad.”
The most popular cope is that he “can’t be a white supremacist” because his name is Mauricio Garcia. The leader of the “Proud Boys” is named Enrique Tarrio, and one of the most prominent white supremacist pundit is Nick Fuentes.
Not to mention he posted this meme on a Russian social media site. (Of course) where he said that if given the choice, he’d be a white supremacist over “acting black.”
They’re also saying that he can’t be a white supremacist because he killed white people. His target was a mall when a lot of people where there. His goal was to kill as many people as possible.
Here’s an entire thread of evidence on Twitter showing him being a Nazi.
TW: Nazi shit, obviously. But also somebody replies with a picture of his body to show that he was wearing a “Right wing death squad” patch.
That’s it. I only wanted to mention that he was a LibsOfTikTok and Tim Pool fan, but figured that I could dump everything else that was relevant while I was at it.

JFC! This week is something else! I just nearly had a heart attack because I heard about the mall shooting in Allen, so I texted my sister who lives near there to see if she was near it, only for her to tell me that she and her entire family were in the middle of ANOTHER shooting in Frisco with my niece working away from them in another part of the mall! My heart nearly dropped right out of my chest until I finally got confirmation that she was okay after she helped all her guests out.
GET YOUR FUCKING SHIT TOGETHER, TEXAS!!!

I obviously want to stay anonymous, but I work there, and it was TERRIFYING. The (as the article put it) "militia" was pretty d*mn close to where I work...
I cannot imagine how terrifying it must have been for you and everyone else there.
I've been around guns my whole life. My father was a state trooper when I was born, and he also hunted. I went hunting with him a few times. He taught me how to shoot. There were always guns in the house.
It never entered my mind to ever take one to school or a mall or a church.
The only way this is going to change is to get the damned hateful, NRA-owned Republicans out of office and enact gun control laws to try to protect people. Do real background checks, have waiting periods.
When someone is convicted of a felony, take their guns away! If a person is convicted of domestic violence, take their guns away!
Confiscated guns? Destroy them. Get them out of circulation.
Straw sales (sales from private person to private person) should be eliminated. You're never going to stop all of them, but it will help.
Automatic weapons are kept from the general public. Semi-automatic rifles with high capacity magazines should be also. People who hunt to feed their families don't need 30 rounds to take down a deer. They should only need one.
I am sorry this happened so close to you.
