Very happy to see that Netflix has not only purchased the license for Starz' cancelled show "Heels" but they also have given the show an option for a possible 3rd season!!! 😀 Starz actually cancelled this show and others because they legally split from the show's production company Lionsgate. The show ended on a cliffhanger too as they thought they were going to make season 3. It's all going to depend on Stephen and Alexander's schedules too as they are both attached to new shows, and of course the ratings. This will be on Netflix worldwide too and I know a lot of wrestling fans didn't have Starz so they weren't able to watch when this aired, so now they can. I loved this show as it's about a fictional wrestling family the Spades, and their small town Georgia wrestling company that the sons Jack & Ace are hoping to expand and grow in honor of their late father Tom, but they all have a complicated past. Totally rec it for fans of "The Iron Claw" too as this show had a lot in common with the Von Erichs, but also other wrestling families like the Harts, Rhodes, etc. And I had two great ships on here too with valet turned female wrestler Crystal Tyler and loveable sweetheart Texas wrestler Bobby Pin, as well as Jack and his wife Stacy, and a great supporting cast of other wrestlers, promoters, and those that worked for the league. It also was a bit like "Friday Night Lights" mixed with "Glow" too, and made by Mike O'Malley from "Glee" and other shows. So again hoping this means we'll get season 3 after all and Netflix will announce the release date for the first 2 seasons soon. Now if Netflix will finally change their minds and film the final season of "Glow".

House Party (2023, dir. Calmatic) - review by Rookie-Critic
Tumblr media
It is arthouse film season. Any awards contenders/foreign language films that aren't already out over here in the States are going to come out in rapid succession over the next couple months so that the general public can see them before the awards shows are over. I love these movies, when they're good, they're incredible, but I get tired and brain fried watching these high concept, thinky films one after another after another sometimes. So, last Friday I went and saw House Party to unwind. Sometimes it's nice to just kick back, switch the thinker off, and enjoy the ride. Now, I will ashamedly admit that I have never seen the original, Reginald Hudlin, Kid 'n Play House Party from 1990, so I won't be able to draw many comparisons between the two films. From what I've read in other reviews, this new one wasn't able to capture the same heart or sense of fun that the original had. I can see where they're coming from; the titular house party doesn't really start until close to an hour into the film, and the buildup to it only has a couple of moments that are actually funny, but the House Party itself, once the film actually brings us there, is pretty entertaining. The celebrity cameos range from hilarious (Mark Cuban) to eye-roll inducing (Lil Wayne) to cool (Tinashe), the central protagonist duo of Jacob Latimore and Tosin Cole have great chemistry and comedic timing, and the joke factor of the film is just higher overall during the actual party. It's just a shame that it feels like it doesn't take up a lot of space in the film that's named after it.
Possibly the funniest part of the whole film is the cameo from Kid Cudi. It almost feels like a crime to call his role in the film a cameo because he's such an integral part of the film's story, and is one of the main characters of what is easily the funniest, craziest, best part of the entire movie. I won't spoil the fun because I think that, if you're into this kind of movie, I would definitely recommend seeing it. It never tries too hard, which is sometimes endearing, and sometimes a detriment to the quality of the film. Another one of the film's issues is that the ending feels incredibly rushed; with how long it took us to get to the actual House Party itself, you would think we'd spend at least a little time on the aftermath of the thing, but really the film seems content to just say "this is where the characters ended up, thanks for coming, bye bye now." in a matter of minutes. I appreciate the art of the epilogue, and it feels like House Party kind of phones theirs in. I also could have done without the main character, Kevin's, motivation for throwing the party. It feels like a McGuffin for the characters to "get serious" and "get things done" whenever anything starts to get out of hand. It just felt kind of tacked on and unnecessary when they could have easily just done it because, I don't know, they don't want to go to jail for throwing an illegal house party at LeBron James' house without his consent? That seems like a pretty good reason to kick into gear. Good enough for me, at least.
House Party is not a perfect film, by any stretch of the imagination. It has a ton of flaws, it's not as funny as it should be, and it's overall very forgettable, but did I hate it? No, not at all. I'm not sure if it's because of the aforementioned "arthouse burnout," or what, but I had fun with House Party. It's a decent enough distraction, I just feel like over time it will fade into obscurity, and not have the lasting societal impact that the film it sought to remake has.
Score: 5/10
Currently only in theaters.

Heels is on Netflix now. Go check it out, show them some love. They deserve it. This show is an amazing piece of art. The writing and acting is just top notch. They're getting a second chance now since they've been done so wrong. Here's hoping netflix will spring for a third season.
Okay, so since the strike in Hollywood prohibits actors from promoting their work, Stephen is getting a lot of hate for his opinion, and this show is amazing and it would suck for it to get cancelled because of the conditions the union has during the strike, I decided it is up to the fans to take over the promotion:
youtube
Go watch it, first Episode of the second season is amazing!
Show Stephen and the cast and crew some love.

The full trailer for season 2 of "Heels" is finally out and it looks great!!! :D Jack's dealing with his wife having left and estranged relationship with his brother Ace, Ace is struggling too, Crystal is now an actual wrestler and the DWL are actually adding more female wrestlers, Bobby seems to be now a ref and one of the announcers as well as it exploring more of his and Crystal's relationship, Rooster has a new wrestling persona, there's new cast additions like Emmy Raver Lampman from "Umbrella Academy", and looks like CM Punk is a series regular now too as Ricky. Excited to watch and it's back July 28th.

Meet Me Next Christmas (2024)
If you’re a fan of Pentatonix, even a casual fan around Christmas, this is a fun movie. We open on Layla (Christina Milian) stuck at the airport trying to get to the Pentatonix Christmas Eve concert with her boyfriend Tanner (Brendan Morgan). She hangs out in the first class lounge and brief interaction with a man at the snack table before settling in on a couch. Shortly after, James (Kofi Siriboe) sits next to her and they talk for hours. James shoots his shot even though Layla has been up front about being in a relationship. They decide that if they’re meant to be together, they’ll both be single next year at the Pentatonix Christmas Eve concert and meet there.
Fast forward almost a full year, and Layla catches Tanner with another woman. Layla decides it is the universe telling her to go after James. Unfortunately for Layla, the concert is sold out. Her friend Roxy (Tymika Tafari) tells her to use a concierge company to help her. Layla goes to the office and meets with her concierge, Teddy (Devale Ellis). Teddy is struggling with the company because he doesn’t have great reviews from his clients, so he really needs this one to go well.
Teddy and Layla run around New York City trying to find tickets. After several dead ends including a defunct ticket counter, an eccentric couple, a sugar plum purse, and a scalper, Teddy believes he has found the answer in his cousin Jordy (Kalen Allen). Jordy explains that the first place prize at the Snow Ball is tickets to the concert, so they spend several hours in Teddy's mom's house- shout out Louise (Marium Carvell)- rehearsing the dance that Jordy choreographed for them.
Another fun thing about this film is that all the members of Pentatonix appear as themselves because Teddy is giving them a play-by-play of all of these events in their DMs and their manager? handler? Becca (Nikki Duval) told them about it.
There was a lot more music in this film than the others I've watched so far this year, but also Pentatonix was literally in it, so that makes sense. Netflix continues to do well production wise and I think costuming, hair, and makeup really popped off with this one, especially with the Snow Ball scenes, but generally throughout the outfits were killer. I could have done with fewer references to signs from the universe, but otherwise I had a great time watching this movie. Overall, 4 stars.

Crack theory that came to me in the shower after answering that anon about who the priest is going to be if not Mr. Newby:
What if the Collider casting-call article for “Betty” and “George” got a remixed version of the casting calls for Patty, Henry, Al, and another girl?
Let me explain, and please just bear with me.
Patty Newby was never confirmed as being both Betty Olsen and the preacher’s daughter.
Yes, she’s Betty Olsen in that she’s Bill Olsen/Bob Newby’s goody-two-shoes sister, and that their father is an important part of Hawkins community (Principal Newby).
As far as I know, she’s never confirmed as being the preacher’s daughter, though…and after this last update…she kind of can’t be.
Priests don’t take secular jobs. Priesthood is a full-time job. If Patty is Principal Newby’s daughter, then she essentially can’t be the Betty Olsen who was the preacher’s daughter. Got me?
So then…yeah. Who is the priest? And who’s the priest’s daughter that’s supposedly falling for our moody loner?
I’d like to bring up an ask I answered a long ways back about The Maldonado Miracle.
There are a lot of interesting tangential ties, the main being:
Tumblr media
Allen/Alan Munson.
Joyce Maldonado and Al Munson.
Could our priest be Joyce’s father? Could she be that other half to Betty Olsen, thus making Al our pale, moody loner?
After all…
Tumblr media
tl; dr: Patty and Joyce being two halves of a remixed release of a casting call. Patty, the goody-two-shoes sister of Bill/Bob and daughter of the Principal. Joyce, the rebellious daughter of the Preacher who can’t believe she’s falling for Al Munson.
(or even Lonnie Byers, he also seems to fit the George bill. Al is just the one who seems to be most connected to this aspect, not to mention he’s appearing in the new Eddie book being released)
