Cherry Peel - of Montreal
Time to be absolutely gutted by Some Guy with an Acoustic Guitar again.
Usually I begin by talking about how I found the album I'm "reviewing", because I feel like it's good context for where I'm approaching the artist. Unfortunately, I found of Montreal in the Spotify recommended section for a 2.5 hour long "2019 transmasc tiktok cringe" playlist. So I'm not sure I should admit to that.
FAVORITE TRACK: Tim, I Wish You Were Born a Girl
Naturally, my first song on this album was Tim, I Wish You Were Born a Girl. When I tell you this song takes my fucking heart out, I am not exaggerating one bit. This song makes me want to lay face down on the hot summer concrete and rip out the grass in my front lawn. This song makes me want to tear everything off of my walls. This song makes me want to stop talking to everyone I know. This FUCKING SONG makes me want to scream. This might be my song of the damn season. It's so short and it's so perfect. The fucking "bing bring bing bring bing bing bingg~" at the end. The happy little guitar and the relaxed vocals. The domestic bliss. The hope for an idyllic future that you know is never coming. THE SPAGHETTI WITH TOMATO SAUCE (AND JUST A TOUCH OF OREGANO AND A PARSLEY STEM AND THEN) (the I COULD HAVE CAUGHT YOUR COLD AND YOU COULD TAKE CARE OF ME MMMMMM--)
I've screamed this song at the top of my lungs dozens of times on my way to work in the morning. This song means so many different things to me. This fucking song.
Okay, I guess I have to talk about the rest of the album. Well, guys, it's fucking incredible. (What's the "fucking" count at so far?) Everything Disappears When You Come Around I love almost as much as Tim. Baby is also gut-wrenching. Montreal is a delight. I mean, come on, do you want me to just list every track and talk about each of them? I might. I can feel an of Montreal deep dive coming very soon. They're going to be my new Lemon Demon. My new WW, even. Maybe even my Sidney Gish. I can feel it in my bones. So maybe I'll do a more in-depth analysis of each track later on.
This isn't much for a review, because my thoughts on this stupid fucking collection of songs are mostly impossible to communicate, but I think you can tell that what I'm trying to get across is that this album is beyond a 10/10. This is an all-timer.
Oh my god, I almost forgot. Can we talk about how this came out in NINETEEN NINETY-SEVEN? TIM CAME OUT IN NINETEEN NINETY-SEVEN?

New Philosophy Tube coming this week to Nebula!
Finished the editing on the Nebula cut much faster than I thought I would! It's rendering now. Just gotta do things like the subtitles and the thumbnail now, and a few other bits and bobs like the blooper reel etc.
It's about Judith Butler and it's about 75 minutes long.
The YouTube cut will probably arrive the following week: takes a bit more work to do the subtitles and the additional editing on that version. $15+ Patrons will get to see that cut early!

Aint no way 2-3 people should be running a busy multi-level store in a major city by themselves man this is so busted
