All Rise Season One Ep. One Thoughts
Spoilers Ahead
Tumblr media
This is my first court-based show besides the first few seasons of Bull, which I will talk about here as well. I did decide to watch the show for two main reasons. 1. it was a new show on Max that I hadn't seen before and it was a case of the week style show that I love and 2. it has the actress of Catherine Willows from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in it. I will definitely give my thoughts on CSI here, as I love the show. But for All Rise, episode one was a great first episode of a court-based drama as it is not typically what one expects for a procedural show to focus solely on the court. The characters all have great chemistry with each other, and those that seem to have tension clearly do, and it doesn't seem forced as much as compared to the tension between Jess LeCroix and Kenny Crosby from FBI: Most Wanted Season One early episodes. Judge Carmichael has just been appointed to Judge, and this episode goes over her first court case no longer as an attorney but now as a Judge. The case presented before is fun as it looks at both police corruption and witnesses protecting families as they feel they have no other choice. The other case being presented by the Judge's friend Mark, the DA, is super fun. The defendant does a great job defending himself until Mark convinces him to shave the beard, which gets the conviction. While it was an underhanded trick by the DA to get a guilty verdict and not a great representation of a DA. It goes against the typical procedural trope of the defense being dirty players in the courtroom, so it was fun to see it subverted to the DA. I think the show from this episode has great potential, and I am interested in where it goes from here. All of the characters were great, and none of them felt over the top or immediately dislikable, which is good.

I haven't been really up to date with the things that aespa has been doing, but I got on a little bit of a binge these last two days and Girls slaps SO HARD. I loved that Karina described it as being influenced by TVXQ, because that was really the first reference that popped into my head. I love how much of a connection their sound and looks have to 1st gen, the futuristic looks, and you can see that they are inspired a lot by BOA, SES, TVXQ. That was such a fun time in kpop, i love it
yes!!!!!! thank u for also seeing the vision!!!!!!! love love love girls i have another ask where i'm gonna talk about it more bc its so fun and i love how throwback-y it is to first gen, like it was a continuation of the visual themes set by dreams come true! one of my fave cbs of last year for sure

i saw a pb x cb post so i got curious, is it ok to ship them? i tried to find out by myself with searching but all the thing of pb being an adult but young adult/late teenager mentally and cb being a 10 year old but a mid teenager/late teenager mentally gets me a bit confused
im gonna use this post to talk about the characters ages again! (no shade to this person in particular, ive just been getting a lot of questions abt it recently.)
when discussing ages, a lot of fans refer to this post i made a while back:
Tumblr media
i'd have no problems with this but a lot of people who use this image seem to disregard/forget the bottom paragraph? its mainly my fault for not being good enough while explaining, which i apologize for. but i want to use this to better explain what i meant here:
charger block and crown are NOT actual 10 year old children; when i say that they are 10 and 9, i'm saying that they have EXISTED for 10 and 9 years. even when they were 0 years old, their mannerisms and such were the same as they are today, and may even remain the same when they reach the age 500+.
for example, a character that was created yesterday is only a day old but they may still have the resemblance and maturity of an adult. this is how it worked for michael and sean: since their creations, they have always resembled adults. the characters in LOTS do not age the same as actual people do.
with this in mind, ever since their creations, cb and crown have always resembled teenagers! so while not real children, they're still a bit on the younger side.
so, use this for a better reference:
charger blocks maturity resembles that of a 16-17 year old.
crowns maturity resembles that of a 18-20 year old.
michael, sean, and pipe bomb are fully adults!
this does not mean that a characters mental age WILL stay the same forever, however! it's possible that we will see maturity in cb and crown as the show goes on; don't forget, theyre stuck with a job for 500 years!!! but for now, this is who they are.
so what about the actual question above? well, i anticipated seeing a ship of pb and cb rise after 1C. it's not one i exactly look forward to seeing like many others, so i'd prefer people take a different direction when it comes to that relationship.
and please please, if you see someone who enjoys the ship but is possibly unaware of the ages, DONT get upset!!! it's not their fault that they haven't seen a random post clarifying the ages that only 5% of LOTS fans see!!! if you want to, politely inform them. if they don't care, leave them alone and move on!! they wont change their mind as you won't change yours!!
so theres that! i hope this doesn't leave more questions than answers like last time, but dont be afraid to ask for further clarification!

The Best News of Last Week
⚡ - Goodbye Fossil Fuels, Hello Renewables: The Energizing News You Need
1. Fungi discovered that can eat plastic in just 140 days
Tumblr media
Australian scientists have successfully used backyard mould to break down one of the world's most stubborn plastics — a discovery they hope could ease the burden of the global recycling crisis within years.
It took 90 days for the fungi to degrade 27 per cent of the plastic tested, and about 140 days to completely break it down, after the samples were exposed to ultraviolet rays or heat. We really see a solution within five years, according to environmental scientist Paul Harvey, an expert on global plastic pollution.
2. Topeka Zoo welcomes new African Lion as female sprouts mane
Tumblr media
The Topeka Zoo has welcomed a new African Lion to its pride, a male, as one of its females started to sprout a mane following the 2021 passing of the pride’s last male.
The Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center announced on Thursday, April 13, that Tatu, a 4-year-old African Lion, has arrived in the Capital City. He comes to Topeka from the Denver Zoo and his arrival marks a time of growth for the zoo.
3. This barber opens his shop on his day off for children with special needs – and all of their haircuts are free
Tumblr media
On his day off, Vernon Jackson still goes to work, opening up his Cincinnati barber shop, Noble Barber and Beauty, for VIP clients: children with special needs.
It's something he's done since 2021. "I was hearing so many horror stories that parents were going through with other barber shops and just the barbers or stylists having no patience with their child," Jackson told CBS News. "So I figured I would compromise by coming in on my day off so there were there would be no other barbers or stylists in the shop and I could give them the full attention that they need."
4. Renewables break energy records signalling ‘end of the fossil age’
Tumblr media
Experts are calling time on the fossil age as new analysis shows wind and solar power produced a record amount of the world’s electricity last year.
The renewables generated 12 per cent of global electricity in 2022, up from 10 per cent the previous year, according to the report from clean energy think tank Ember. Last year, solar was the fastest-growing source of electricity for the 18th year in a row, rising by 24 per cent from 2021.
5. New nuclear medicine therapy cures human non-hodgkin lymphoma in preclinical model
Tumblr media
A new nuclear medicine therapy can cure human non-Hodgkin lymphoma in an animal model A single dose of the radioimmunotherapy, was found to quickly eliminate tumour cells and extend the life of mice injected with cancerous cells for more than 221 days (the trial endpoint), compared to fewer than 60 days for other treatments and just 19 days in untreated control mice.
To explain it in simple terms because this is so freaking cool: There is a radioactive atom attached to a drug. The target cell eats the drug and the energy coming off of the radioactive atom kills the target cell

Have they heard about the 911 fuck up?
Have they talked to Lou like "Wtf did you do??"
And the cbs execs just seeing a rise in media engagement wondering what gives.
Everyone is just confused as fuck, and meanwhile Lou is just vibing and living his best life.

My thoughts on All Rise S1 Ep 5 Spoilers Ahead
Tumblr media
This episode is wedding day where multiple couples go to get married. This is Judge Carmichael's first wedding day. The couple needs to be married as the wife is in labor which does annoy me as the pregnancy trope is overdone in procedurals but instead of being a stress tactic it is for a marriage scene. Lola decides to go see what court costs are and then gets ambushed by an angry citizen. The woman is angry about her husband being thrown in jail and now her son is up on charges. The Church is shown is a good light pretty heavy handedly in the episode.
Emily is dealing with a case involving the Catholic Church and stealing. The defendant is a nun but does have dyed hair which is feared to be a detractor for her in front of the jury. Emily has an issue with her engagement ring being asked to give back to but got stuck on her finger. It is also discovered that Emily had a rosary as a child from baptism thus also connecting her to the Catholic Church. The defendant is covering up for another nun who is guilty but because of her faith she is unwilling to throw Sister Miranda under the bus. Emily is dealing with her religious guilt over her divorce and breaking her promise in front of god. We get to see more of Emily and Lola's friendship as they discuss Emily's guilt.
Mark is dealing with a dine and dasher who leaves men with large bills. The court case is between Mark and his rival and framed as a love interest Amy Quinn. The defendant Margo is flirting with the Judge and the Judge responds to the flirting with flirting back. It is a preliminary hearing so it is for the State to make their case.
This was a difficult episode as you understand where Sister Phoebe is coming in regards to defending Sister Miranda and her faith is common in individuals. Mark got crushed in court by Quinn as a result of his witnesses being asked argumentative questions.

Just watched Descendants rise of red and y'all I am GAGGING so allow me to ramble real quick thnx.
I have a few criticisms but I also have a theory for D5 that may be a little far fetched but I need to get it off my chest.
So at the end when Uma is talking about the consequences of unraveling the fabric of time,I believe that D5 could possibly transport Chloe and Red into the future to introduce the children of the originals.
Also I've noticed Jazmine and Aladdin are getting several appearances in the past and future along with what appears to be their son, could he star along side Red and Chloe in D5 ?? Could he be a love interest to either one of them?? A love triangle maybe???
Tumblr media
It's unclear to me what the main conflict will be for D5 other than the typical, reality and time dramatically collapsing trope like EVERY other time travel movie but D5 would still need a main villain and for the love of GOD don't make them another black woman this time like ALL the other movies; (D1: Queen Leah, D2: Uma, D3: Audrey (she's half black), Descendants Wicked World: Freddy, Descendants ROR: Uliana)
As for my criticisms;
1. Charming and Bridget should've had a bit more screen time
2. Bridget's character should've been a bit more fleshed out
3. The movie should've at least been 2 hours long, it felt a bit rushed trying to squeeze in every character so much that they forgot Rapunzel/Rapunzel's daughter or whoever the hell she is
4. Fire the hairdresser IMMEDIATELY, the wigs were nice at some points but why can you fully see the lace?? Why is almost everyone's wig bulky??
5. The outfits were cute but BRING BACK KARA SAUN
6. BRING BACK KARA SAUN
7. Where tf is Harry and Gil???
8. Where is Dizzy and Celia???
9. Killing off Carlos was a choice but I understand that recasting him would be entirely disrespectful so I support it, rest in peace CB💞
10. Color hair is cool but NOT when it's the same shade as your entire outfit like c'mon....... (Bring back Kara saun)
11. Descendants has been Monochromatic since the beginning but it seems overwhelmingly mishandled in this movie so please bring back Kara saun
12. DITCH the track pants/ bell bottoms and bring back the cool leather patterns and prints pls
As for what I liked:
1. I deeply enjoy Red and Chloe as Characters and if Disney isn't stupid they'd give them a romance (imo)
2. I LOVE the queen of Hearts, Rita Ora portrayed her so well and her voice is SO beautiful
3. BRANDY and Paolo returning as Cinderella and Charming is the gag of the century, still unsure how they raised somebody like Chad.....
4. Uma being principal is absolutely genius imo

13 Oct 2024
I’m glad I had the panic attack in the park before the one I had at home. Because if I had the one at home first, I’m fairly certain Darling wouldn’t’ve looked at me the same again.
The Devil was a food critic now. Should’ve been a downgrade from being one of the best chefs in the world, but jokes on all of us miserable fucks, he was making a fuckton of money without having to step foot in another sweltering, loud, stressful kitchen again. Not that he felt stress. He didn’t feel anything.
He wasn’t a fucking human.
You know how if there is a God, he’s out for my blood, right? Well, I have proof of that now. Exhibit A: I find out this information while chopping chocolate for hot cocoa at my apartment—aside: fuck landlords, it took him a month to fix my range, and the radiator in the bedroom still won’t fucking work—and what comes on during the ad break of the baking show I have running in the background so the place isn’t painfully quiet while I’m waiting on Darling to come up from the parking lot after a long shift?
Aside 2: She was at the hospital for 19 fucking hours, you piece of shit. You fucking deadbeat. That’s the day you did this to her.
“Part of the reason we’re seeing so many restaurants close down, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, is because of the social culture around dining out changing,” Chef David said.
If I had any control of my body, I would’ve kept my eyes off the T.V., ran over to the remote, and changed the channel or turned it off. That’s it. It sounds so fucking simple when I write this down, but that’s not how it went. It’s not how it’s ever going to go because The Devil left gouges, chasms in my psyche, Grand Canyons of scars that I put shitty fucking rope bridges over and that I could never—and I can never, I know this—fill in. No, I froze. I froze like The Devil’s breath was fanning out over the back of my neck, and the plates were moving too slowly, and I repeated ingredients again, and I should’ve been dead I should’ve been dead I should’ve—
One of the weirdest consequences of working for The Devil was that I could remember every single word he said to me. It was paramount that I did. He spat venom at me if I missed anything he said the first time. Every little thing—down to his fucking hatred of fucking black pepper—I memorized it. I knew that tilt of his head when he sensed an excuse, that eyebrow twitch when he expected a verbal answer, the furrow that formed and dissipated in the blink of an eye when he decided something had too much in it and needed to be stripped further. He walked differently when he was going to berate me. His cadence was different when I fucked up versus when I insulted humanity for existing.
So, as I stood, a marble carving in the kitchen, knife hovering over a chunk of Valrhona 55% dark chocolate already half-shredded into flakes, all I could do was watch the white reflection coming off the blade tremble more and more, all I could do was absorb every. Single. Word. The Devil said, as the voice in my head screamed at my body to move. To do something. To make the voice stop. As I tried to fight through the noise to tell myself it wasn’t real and that it was a dream, and I couldn’t be back in New York, Darling wasn’t in New York, and I couldn’t’ve imagined her this vividly.
“… with the rise… like Uber Eats and Doordash, people are just not finding it necessary to go out to dining halls and enjoy meals. They can get a lot of the food they tend to want to eat at home on their own time without having to brace the discomforts of social expectations. This has, obviously, caused problems in the mid-to-fine dining world, where that social expectation of a dining experience is primarily what drives people in the door rather than the food itself being of some specific quality.”
Like a bolt of lightning, a searing pain erupted in my chest. The knife clattered and slid off the cutting board, off the counter, and rang as it bounced off the tile floor. I grabbed at my chest, at the thing causing the pain, as if to remove it, as if I’d find a knife there butchering me as I stood, but all I grasped was the front of my apron.
“So do you think this will change how restaurants are being run?”
“Absolutely,” The Devil said. “I think in order to survive this change in society, restaurants need to adapt to the social changes we’re seeing.”
The pain worsened and deepened and sunk into the pit of my stomach. And I tore my apron off and clawed at my shirt, trying to chase down the hands under it, under my skin, under my ribs, the ones twisting my insides around their fists.
“I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Noma has announced that it will be closing its dining hall after the service season in 2024 and opening an option more catered to people who want to be able to take the food to-go. There needs to be a shift in the industry that corresponds to the shift in the culture.”
My knees buckled, pain exploded elsewhere—I couldn’t even tell where, it all hurt. Everything hurt. World dimmed. Noise of some kind? Was that a voice? Was that The Devil’s voice?
“Carmy? Carmy!”
I couldn’t breathe. A roaring sound. Lights in my view.
Dark again. Cold. Cold on my face. Something jostled me.
“CARMEN, BREATHE!”
I can’t, sweetheart.
The Devil finally killed me.
Tell Sugar I’m sorry.
Tell ma I love her.
Piercing cold on my chest. Light. Dark. Light. Bile. I coughed and spluttered, gasped in air.
“There you go. Cough. Keep coughing.”
Pressure on my back. Light. It kept moving.
“Breathe... Breathe.” Darling sniffled, drew in a shaking breath. “In and out, slowly, all the way... You’re okay... It’s gonna be okay.”
Kitchen floor, on my side, knife and pool of vomit in view. And the stench of bile and random noise from the T.V. and freezing cold on my chest. A hand rubbing up and down my spine. Darling sniffled again. Took a deep breath.
“Sweetheart, can you hear me?”
I could. Fuck if I could respond, though.
“Carmy, baby, are you here?” something touched my hand. “Can you squeeze if you can hear me? I’m gonna have to call for an ambulance if you’re not—”
I crushed her fingers in my grip. Fuck no. No hospitals.
“Okay.” The cold sensation on my chest left, and in its wake was numbness and, weirdly, burning. The kind that made my face hurt when walking to the restaurant in the winter.
I’d just had the most brutal panic attack of my life. And this poor fucking woman—she got back from 19 fucking hours at the hospital and had to clean up that mess and me and the cut on my arm from falling on the knife. I kept wanting to help—I knew it was my fucking mess—but I couldn’t tell which way was up or down or if I was awake or asleep or what day or year it was. And I hadn’t been properly sick in a long time, but I remembered what a high fever felt like—and this felt like the highest fever of my pathetic existence. I don’t know when the T.V. turned off, but at some point, I noticed how quiet it was.
How did I end up on the couch wrapped in a blanket?
She joined me there. In her pajamas, hair up. Brought two mugs and set them on the coffee table.
“Hi, baby,” she whispered. Pulled her sleeve over her hand and patted my cheek—since when do I cry? “Do you know where you are? What happened?”
It took me a thousand years to respond.
“Panic attack?” I didn’t mean for it to come out as a strangled whisper, but I could’ve swallowed glass, my throat hurt so bad.
Oh.
That roaring sound I heard was my own screaming.
She nodded. Her eyeliner was smudged into a haze around her eyes. “Yeah. Panic attack. But it’s over now. We’re gonna try to recover, but then we need to talk about this, okay?”
I squeezed my eyes shut. I can recall now what she said, but at the time, I couldn’t understand her. The words came to me jumbled.
“Is it okay if I hold you?”
I saw that she was holding an arm out for me. I scooted towards her and hid my face in the crook of her neck. Collapsed into her scent, her softness, her warmth. I crushed a fistful of her pajama top in my hand and squeezed her like she’d disappear if I let go. She peppered kisses all over my forehead and my hairline while she sipped her hot chocolate. Murmured little comforting things to me. She kept feeling the temperature of the second mug, and, after a while, brought it first to her lips to test the temperature, then to mine for me to taste. It had coffee notes, curtesy of the type of chocolate I used, and was rich and velvety without being overly sweet.
“That feel doable, sweetheart?”
Not exactly, but I’d troubled her so much by freaking the fuck out that I sat up and took the mug. Kept sipping it. Let it wash down the pain in my throat.
“’m sorry,” I mumbled.
“Panic attacks are not your fault, baby.”
“No, but I… I should’ve…” heat in my face. “I should’ve gotten help f-for them—”
She placed a hand on my leg. “Sweetheart, I want you to try to stay calm, okay? Just let yourself recover. I promise, we’ll talk about this and figure it out, but right this moment, you need to let yourself calm back down.”
I nodded.
(To Be Continued)
