While I think AM is still great and does what it sets out to do, I agree that the acceptance of Edelgard is just… so meh to me. The only route she’s totally not accepted in is SS, where Byleth cuts her down mercilessly and has no emotion in doing so (doesn’t even let her finish her sentence!). The BEs are sadder having to fight Rhea than Edelgard, which to me shows that when the BEs who know Edelgard personally are allowed to also meet Rhea on a more personal and understanding level that they’ll understand Rhea’s motivations/intentions more and sympathize with them more.

In SS (and VW? I don’t remember), the characters literally see her transform into a dragon and are instead only concerned with her well-being and health when she’s injured. If given the chance to understand Rhea, they’re not all gung ho about killing her. They’re not gung ho about killing Edelgard either, but they don’t have anyone whispering in their ear that the Empire is ruled by malicious people who are secretly trying to overtake Fodlan (even though that IS the case because the people with the most power in the Empire are all exactly those kind of people, i.e. Thales posing as Arundel, Ludwig, Edelgard for the top offenders).

Edelgard claims she cares about the people/does it for the people but also at the exact same time says in the Lonato chapter that she’d willingly sacrifice the lives of her own people, the innocent civilians, if it meant achieving her goal. In other words she’s absolutely no different from anyone else in power who abuses their privileged birthright and ruins lives because of it. She speaks of a “world” where people gain power by their own merits while causing countless people to die simply because she can due to her position. For example, even though I’m not fond of him, Randolph is trying to fight for her because he believes in the idea of getting power/influence through his own merits. However, he dies trying to do that, so he never gets to live in this supposed world she wants to create. If it were Randolph’s call for the same kind of system, it wouldn’t happen because he doesn’t have the power given to him through birthright.

I don’t care if people are fans of Edelgard. I just want more of her fans to understand that even the writers intended for her to be the villain (said by they themselves). You can like a character and still acknowledge that they’re not doing a good thing or that they’re not a good person. Jarod has his badass hype speech and I’m here for it! He’s still a shitty person. He makes me laugh! He’s still a shitty person. I like him as a character, but I’m not blinding myself to his behavior or actions. Problem is, since he and Micaiah didn’t have a love story, he didn’t get uwu perks.

Also, the dragons thing imo should be a pretty clear indication that she’s the villain. Other FE games have dragons either co-existing with humans or are viewed by humans, willingly, as gods. Ike and Nasir can have a regular conversation all day and neither of them will even think about the other’s race, because… they literally don’t fuckin’ care, they just out here havin’ a nice conversation. They see each other as another person who speaks the same language as them and can find common ground. Nasir worried at first that Ike would change! Then Nasir was surprised and pleased that he didn’t!

Basically, dragons are considered a good force in the FE worlds. The ones who fight against the dragons are usually dark dragons/people who don’t like these forces of good.

I think the reason Heroes challenges her is more because it’s not as geared toward the NA release of Houses. Since the NA changed lines through translation in a way that basically made Edelgard out to seem more… humane I guess? a lot of the things that were there in JP were lost to NA players. afaik Heroes is more based around the JP dialogue, so it’s less surprising for me at least to see them have other characters chime in. Lissa talking to her actually boosted my opinion of Lissa to see what she had to say despite it coming from Heroes, and I saw a lot of Lorenz-like responses from her! The way they both consider their birthright to be a chance to help people who aren’t so fortunate is something I really respect about Lorenz and always have, so seeing Lissa have that same view made me much more interested in her (and it doesn’t help that Awakening wasn’t very nuanced at all the way Tellius games/Houses are, so I wasn’t able to see Lissa in as much depth before that).

You said it in the tags but you hit the nail on the head. When FE villains spouted racist, colonialism and imperialism BS in the past, you acknowledge they're villains and you don't have emotional attachments to them. That's the true problem with Egg: because the narrative paints a love story with the self insert and an imperialist dictator, yet refuses to ever engage with Egg or challenge her BS, prejudice, ignorance, the narrative allows her to go unchallenged and spout complete nonsense.

That's why I ultimately think even AM, as the story of Dimitri learning to accept and let go of his hatred, ultimately falls, even if at the end he offers his hand to Supreme Leader.

The game cannot allow anyone to challenge Supreme Leader, or call her out on the most horrible aspects of her character, it's all about "she started a war" and not "she's using Jackie, the baker who lived in the next house, as a regular part of her forces as he was turned in a demonic beast".

Basically, everything that happened in WC is swept under the rug, so even during that "parley" it's goes from "war bad" to "ideals" to "sandwiches" to "actually you're strong".

The means Supreme Leader used (and is still using)? Swept under the rug with the grace of a beluga roller skating - no references to her own people used as guinea pigs, her preventive assassination attempt or Supreme Leader's very own disregard for human life, nope.

Nabateans? Who cares. We only learn about them, and/or care in Tru Piss, and only because Supreme Leader think they're inhuman creatures who cannot live with humans since their ears are pointy.

If Dimitri argued during this phoney parley about his father's death, the Duscur genocide and even what Supreme Leader is thinking about Flayn who sekritly controls the world and has ugly pointy ears - if Supreme Leader gave her usual "no u" witty one liner and Dimitri just gave up on reasoning with her, then why not, he accepts he cannot get along with her on anything, but he will still try to find a way to - as he doesn't erase her at the end of AM.

But no, those things are never alluded to.

So since Elincia doesn't exist in this game to shut her up with her "You care nothing for the people, [Supreme Leader]. You cloak your desire to rule with pretty speeches, but it is petty avarice nonetheless!" we end up with a half baked product, where Rhea, in her S-support, wonders if she should live with people she cares about because she has an alternate form, and the avatar not even telling her that "nope, it doesn't matter if your ears are pointy or not".

Where Sonya's sisters will never be acknowledged, no one can mourn on screen the "disappearance" of Baldo and Waldi, nor try to find a cure to heal them, no. Duscur and the consequences? Off-screen (only to be more or less solved in AG!).

That's why I was legit surprised when FEH, the gacha game, challenged Supreme Leader through her FBs, with Lissa first and Mila second.

Hooooo this is a fckn, You Have Given Me Too Much Power. I have So Many Words.

Gonna be real tho, this is gonna be a Big Thing about Mita bc I have a fckn AU where he's the Outlander and I have some FEELINGS ABOUT THIS. Bc he's part of my main continuity as an adjacent player to the IA and BH storylines, sharing agent crew/other random shit with Phaeyla for the IA stuff (he got Vector and Scorpio, Phae got the rest) and serving as Another sidequest generator for Jeni in the BH line (I give Jeni so many nerds to keep track of whoops).

(THIS IS ALREADY LONG, AND I'M ABOUT 8 PARAGRAPHS IN, SO IT'S GETTING A READ MORE WHILE I'M STILL THINKING ABOUT IT)

Uh, TL;DR, Mita is handling being Commander about This Well:

OK SO in NORMAL canon he goes with Lana and Koth to go fetch the Outlander (who I decided is actually one of Zal's apprentices, a Voss named Thera-nal, until Zal fckn goes 'no fuck this. I have ghost experience. Gimme the emperor u don't have to deal with this urself' and steals Valk from her bc Good Inquisidad Takes On The Oof Ghost For His Kid) and then gets fckn Ditched on Zakuul. Like straight up that whole 'get the outlander on the ship, Vaylin is 3 meters away FUCK FUCK FUCK' thing, he pushes Thera-nal on and then the ship takes off. Without him. And he does a dive off the platform bc he's like 'nah' @ Vaylin and knows he can survive a Really Long Fall. It's all very dramatic, very ciffhangery. I'm still writing the next chapter beyond that in Left Behind.

He ends up fckn, roughing it on Zakuul, gets himself a sort-of job posing as an assassination droid in a gladiator ring (bc i'm a NERD for gladiator shit), grows up, gains some confidence. Knife baby gets a grow up and a glow up. It's awesome.

BUT. BUT I HAVE AN AU WHERE HE'S THE OUTLANDER. AND IT'S AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF WHY HE SHOULD NEVER BE IN CHARGE OF ANYTHING EVER.

He and Lana don't like each other. It's a Thing. They can put their differences aside for the sake of Professionalism or when they give each other the 'r u seeing this shit' Look when someone else is being Stupid in both their opinions, but they don't like each other (this is true in the normal canon as well, they're very antagonistic to each other, it's a little silly how petty it is but it's Fun). Despite this, and their tendencies to piss each other off on purpose, Mita thinks she's the most tolerable of the initial Pile of People. The Conflict between Koth and Senya was A Lot for him to handle, and he doesn't do Leadership Positions very well. About an hour after they picked Senya up, he was already out of patience.

The constant arguing got to him SO FAST, it ran him out of patience and Fucks so quickly, he started getting real snippy. By the time they got to asylum he was throwing around threats to people who couldn't keep their Shit to themselves. He TRIED to do good things, to pull together enough patience and good will to be Benevolent in his actions, but as his patience fell apart, so did basically everything else good. Mita getting Tora was a whole Thing where he did the Nice Thing by making her apologize to Vik and when she talked back he turned around and drew a knife on her, told her to keep her mouth shut if she was going to complain because he WOULD kill her, and he DIDN'T need an engineer/mechanic THAT much. That he'd use her corpse as payment for the next batch of cargo, which, MITA. WHAT THE FUCK, MAN.

He started falling into MUCH older patterns of thinking, refusing to take any action that was Any risk to himself. It's a thought process he had before he got shoved full of implants, before he realized that he could be a Better Person and started being a rebellious little shit in Intelligence and taking risks that helped Other People instead of just being single-mindedly focused on his own self-preservation.

He's falling back into it, which is BRUTAL because he's making more and more devastating choices, and where he saved people by shutting down that reactor on the First blip of Zakuul, before he ran out of Patience and Fear, and he did Good Lightsided Things to Help People, he just went off with Kaliyo to blow the absolute shit out of that whole thing, and where he used to be like 'shit, we need to make things Better', now he's started talking about Vengeance. Which uh. Does me a Concern about Knife Baby.

Basically none of the advisors actually LIKE him. At best, Senya and him have a solid enough mutual understanding of Work Vs Free Time between them, but she's also Pissed that he keeps taking the Big Death Options and fucking over her citizens. Theron's basically constantly giving him the Pensive Side-Eye because of how consistently Freaky Mita has become. Their first interaction was Prickly at best, and Mita hasn't gained any more patience.

Ofc, Mita and Lana just Don't get along, but they at least vibe on the level of 'i am So Done with everyone here' and she's pulled him aside more than once to get him to cool off a little. Though mostly she pawned him off on HK, when the droid was still aroujd, so she's at least Done Something for his mental state, and he liked that droid enough for talking with him being Relaxing. Kind of.

He's a volatile Commander who Can and Will pull people who irritate him aside to threaten them with mortal or bodily harm, or yeet a datapad at the wall for that Big Sound, or just punch a wall while he's got gauntlets on, to get everyone to Shut Up and Pay Attention so he can yell at them for not keeping their Interpersonal Shit out of the war room and out of his presence. He's basically single-handedly driving the Alliance into the ground, driving it forwards through pure force of will and by making people scared enough to work together without Complaining, hoping that Arcann will give before he or the Alliance do.

He's refused every offer by Valkorion for Everything, and right now that's his saving grace.

Koth bounced, furious with Mita and Kaliyo's 'let's blow this bitch up' thing, and Mita's little circle of people he Actually Likes has uh, maybe Not the greatest influences among them. His inner circle is Kaliyo, Scorpio, Tora (which surprised me, but they are Remarkably chill with each other for people whose introduction was Humiliation and Death Threats, like, a 'they'd vibe and drink in a dark corner together' sort of deal), and Even More Surprising, Aric Jorgan.

Completely separate from the Alliance Advisory Squad, Jorgan seems to be REALLY good for Mita. He's just kinda, it's Working Out. Mita's doing Nicer Shit when Jorgan's around. I'm not sure if it's just, the lack of Shit-Stirrers, the comfort and familiarity of military company, Jorgan's 'ur not the boss of me' thing back in the swamps on Zakuul, or what. But Mita's doing Good Shit when that rad cat man's around. Hell, it might be that he just doesn't want to disappoint his new friend. But like, they're actually a STELLAR team friendship-wise. Mita's actually Relaxed enough to get shit done efficiently, do LIGHTSIDED SHIT, and he basically ONLY brings Jorgan when he goes raiding star fortresses. Kaliyo and Scorpio are higher up on Mita's 'would send out alone' list, but only because he worked with Kaliyo when he and Phaeyla got assigned to each other, and Scorpio was HIS team member.

Even with that though, Mita's reputation among Alliance personnel isn't a Kind one. He's terrifying, volatile and quick to snap at anyone and everyone who gets on his nerves. People avoid him in the halls unless they Absolutely Need Him, and there's ABSOLUTELY a network of people you can ask as a 'where's the Commander now' if you really need to spend the day Avoiding Him.

He's also leaned Heavily into the aesthetic of Big Scary. Overall - This album is this wild mix of heavy, hardcore and fun. Some songs hit hard with a dark feel that can be both heavy, but also make you feel strong. “Oh you’re plagued by darkness and pain? Fucking fight it. Knock that bitch out.” Alternatively there are songs on there that are so sweet and fun that you’re living in an entirely different dimension with them. They feel nostalgic, they feel endearing, they make you remember a time when life was simpler and sweeter, and full of adventure. At some moments I feel like a kid again, walking the side street next to my old house that lead back into a small wooded area. I remember all the times that made me love my life back then and remind me that I can make similar memories even now. And at other times I just feel serene. Like I’m finally content with my life and myself.

Interlude: Shadow - Once again Yoongi has come at us hard with reality and the legitimacy of feelings and emotion. You come in feeling hot and then you read the lyrics and are like, “Damn bro, why you gotta make me face the darkness like that?” But you still love it all the same.

Black Swan - Feels dark AF, but also an anthem. I don’t know the lyrics yet, but I simultaneously feel lost and strong at the same time.

Respect - Namgi come at us again with the bond that they share that we never really get to see or hear about. Feels like brotherhood between two individuals that are familiar with darkness, but are getting better day by day- together. Definitely has an old school BTS feel and I love it.

We Are Bulletproof: the eternal - You see We Are Bulletproof and expect it to come out swingin’ with hard beats and clap-backs, but fuck are you wrong. Soft and bittersweet. Once again you feel its weight even without lyrics. We are reminded once again what these boys have been through, how strong they are and how unbreakable their bond truly is. They have faced hell a million times in only 7 years and they are unbreakable because of it. They may fall, but they will never stay down. 7 boys that grew together into men and walk ever forward without stopping. Group members, friends, brothers. But in the end they make sure to remind us of their love for us and include ARMY.

Ego - HOBI TYPE OF FUN! Hobi has always been my favorite rapper. His style just appeals to me more and I love how much fun he always wants to have with what he’s trying to say. Even if it’s dark. ON (Feat. Sia) - Okay, I’m about to be really real about this, so prepare yourself. I’m not trying to hate, but this one just felt unnecessary. It’s literally just Sia in the chorus. That’s it. She didn’t add anything extra, no little snippet of her own part in the song, they just changed the chorus to English and had Sia sing along with it. Feels like an obsolete addition and more of a cop-out just to add a colaberation on there. I hope if there’s an MV with her added there’ll be more to it, but for now I feel like there was little to no reason to tack this on at the end. he was never allowed to go outside the home they lived in, it was a town house on the outside, living under a non magical folks home which their parents bargained with and bada bing bada boom, but that didn’t stop him from sneaking out.

so there they were, finding roman in an alley trying to figure out where to go from there and they were pleading him with him to come home and just understand where they were coming from (oh this boy did not realize he was a witch ever, in his life) and he was getting angry to the point if u felt his hands you’d.. feel like you’d be scorched anyways, 

his parents forget that just bc they don’t have their powers, doesn’t mean roman doesn’t, so out of anger.. pure anger, frustration and all that, he sets them on fire and watches them burn to death in front of him and not only that, the entire alley sets up in flames and little trash cans start exploding and a whole building catches fire bc his parents were running around screaming bloody murder and he literally just watched like what the FUCK is going ON stop burning!! he rly tried the whole pew pew w his hands

after they died, he literally stood there mortified and literally over their scorched bodies crying and using his hands like “please, please work. please.” and he was screaming crying that his stupid hands can make THAT happen maybe his parents can come back to life but nah.. theyre dead and his soul died right then and there 

it was also when he was found by his coven through the outburst, all it had to take was one boop spurt of magique for them to go ok we found him ! and he was dragged back to their coven in vermont , leaving tht part of barcelona to burn and since then, through little explaining and training and eventual enrollment at blackwater he understood but he also hated his parents for never telling him bc a. coulda avoided involuntary murder. mans thinks bout that night all the time. horrible. HORRIBLE

OKAY fastforward to when he was eighteen (bc i legit forgot what i was gonna type), and an ADULT he told his dad ENOUGH i am leaving, and his dad was nah bitch not on my watch 

fight happens, his dad beats the crap out of him, and then he pushes his dad down the stairs 

basically he though he had killed him, and he was so desperate that he called the police (INA THIEF’S HOUSE, THE NERVE) and well,,,, everything went downhill for a while but 

after going through all the process it was decided that it was self-defense and he is innocent 

( does he feel like one, the answer is no )

OKAY THE AFTERMATH OF THIS ALL pretty ulgy tbh, his dad is in a coma, two year going three hasn’t responded. 

now rome, adding to all the scars bc of his dad he was left with a broken elbow that now doesn’t let him stretch his arm properly and his dad ruined his right eardrum sooooo he is deaf from his righ ear

( he doesn’t tell anybody ok but you can notice he is always tilting to his left side to hear what people are saying )

so yeah, he inherited everything, the business and all but he really...........didn’t want any of that so he assigned his People to take care of that and only takes care of one part 

the art theft :~) 

but he donates part of his money every year okay, he is a good person 

but yeah he is an “art collector”

oh commitment issues to his FINEST but also....he is a loving romantic boy 

really generous, throws lavish parties or idk he just rents the places everyone wanna go to and buy the drinks and condoms and yeah he likes to BURN HIS MONEY
