Firstly - where have I been? Work REALLY picked up in a way I wasn't expecting over the last...4 months? I was working double and often triple the hours I was used to. With work, vacations, random illnesses, and many video games I got a bit too obsessed with, this blog took a backseat. Plus, sometimes I get disinterested in vore when obsessed with something else. Sometimes, that lasts months, and it did this time.

But now I can confirm that work will FINALLY chill for a long period of time. I'm free! And more motivated than ever! Wahoo! Thanks for your support ALWAYS.

Next big question - when am I going to do more of my story? The one with Asyr? AHHHHHGHHGHH this story has consumed my life. I think about it daily. I dream about it. And yet I'm not as comfortable writing as I am drawing, so writing is a slow process that my perfectionist ass struggles with. I can assure you that there is a story in the works - and I am working on it at a snail's pace.

We're going back so far that I think this is about my naga oc (which I'm in the midst of redesigning cough cough). For him, he would never tolerate being prey, extremely unwilling bahaha. In general, I haven't thought much about naga or snake prey! I get the appeal of slurping up a noodle, but I just prefer human prey :)

- Cater once played this dress up game for fun (or to make some content out of it), got some HARSH constructive criticism, never played again (person who insulted gave him advice was idia)

- Weepy often puts wax on the hair in front of his face to keep it out of his eyes while performing. (totally not based on an oc x canon thing i thought of.)

- Mime Bomb often has makeup residue around his eyes, making him look more tired than he already is. He struggles to get it out and also doesnt see the point bcs 9 times out of 10 hes gonna be hopping on another flight anyway!!!!

You asked for it.

Okay, let's start with tf2. Tf2 is one of the best games EVER in my opinion, and it's not a really trustworthy one, but it's an opinion. I love everything from character design to the community to the game itself. The comics which make me want to explode from how well the character design goes both for 3d and 2d, and the silly world that the characters live in. It's like some kind of wonderland, but it's made for a fps gamer. The first thing that made me interested in tf2 was my friend talking about it, he sent me the "Meet the spy" video and a fan made animation. I remember seeing it and thinking "Wow, those guys look cool", and when I started learning more I REALLY wanted to play as scout (who I still main to this day). I obviously knew about tf2 before but never got too interested in it. But when I started playing oh wow it sucked me in. Tf2 made me have a big standard for character design, thanks to tf2 I never watched Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss (no matter how hard my friends tried to make me watch it), because oh how distracting those designs were for me. Whenever I think about good character design it's the tf2 mercs, they made me realize that the characters don't have to have 300 cool guns on them to point at the character and say "THIS GUY IS COOL!", you can make simple characters that are still catchy and easy to remember and recognize, and even get to understand their main purpose from just a glance. It's even better to make them simple in some cases! (In general valve games have good designs, but tf2 stands out a lot, at least for me). The game itself always makes me feel good, surprisingly it can be relaxing if you don't get too into the competitive mood and have the luck to get normal teammates. Yes, I might be a casual player, but I'm free. Don't get me started on the amount of playing styles tho. I'm not really good at them, I always go with scout, hop around and do my shit. I do play medic in MvM tho, I just really like to have a huge shield and be like "I'll protect you", idk, it's probably the furry alpha wolf speaking in me. But in normal game, oh what a blessing it is sometimes to have a really skilled demoknight, or a good rocket jumper in your team. Or a good spy who saves the day when the engineers build their nest right over the corner, or a medic that manages to heal everyone and not die 100 times in the process. I barely talk in chat in the game (because it's distracting), but know that if you play good and I'm in your team I'm thanking you constantly in my mind. Let me add that I joined the fandom when the bots where still there so I played with them a lot. Now that this is getting fixed it's even more fun! But I managed to fall in love with this half broken game and I'm sorry, that's a big fucking gold medal for a game, if it can still pull fans while being abandoned (hopefully that changes, but it's still impressive).

Now about Postal. I am edgy. Let me be real, if you saw my art you can probably tell that I do like myself some guts and blood from time to time. And I like humor, I like to laugh, to chuckle, to snicker if you will. So me liking Postal was just a matter of time. First game I played was Brain Damaged, and oh boy, the humor was good (even tho some things I missed because I didn't play the other games). As I got deeper into other games I was so IN. Those games are just so much FUN. I like fps games if you couldn't tell, and this? This is the fps game ever, it has some fun stuff to do, you of course can shoot, you can just walk around and explore in postal 2 and 4, and it's worth it! I love exploring those games, they always have some silly stuff here and there. And what they did well in Postal 4 is that they made you explore, they hid dolls, gnomes and all that stuff all over the map, and you can explore it, not just because, but you can actually get something for it. And let me be honest, Postal Dude? Hot. He's hot, and as a dirty stinky gay man myself I appreciate the representation. But jokes aside, HE'S A GOOD CHARACTER. I love him, it's interesting to watch what he does, to hear what he says, in all the games btw, yes, even postal 3. The character design again? Really well done. Postal Dude is simple, Postal Dude is cool, he's not your stereotypical "Cool guy who kills people with huge armor on" or "The buff guy who fights everyone with bare hands" (except Shtopor, that guy is fucking RIPPED.) When I look at Doomguy? I think "Damn, you're cool." when I look at Postal Dude?? I think "Damn man, you're probably stink", and you know what? THAT'S THE CHARM OF THIS CHARACTER. He sucks! You know where he sucks even more than in the game? The movie, and you have NO IDEA how much I love it. The movie is bad, like, not just because "it doesn't represent the characters as they are in the game" but because it's a bad movie. Just as a movie it's not really well done. But! I still love it. It's a movie that is fun to watch with your friends, you laugh at how bad it is, you just have a blast, at least me and my friends did. And I have the bluray disk, so I have the behind the scenes and all that cool stuff, and you know what? It made me like this shit even more. I really wish I could play more Postal with people, and not just that, I'm also waiting for Postal 4 co-op, and some of my friends getting the game as well. Because in my opinion Postal is that type of game that has to be shown to your friends in a "Hey guys, look at this stupid game I found, isn't it so random??" way. I talked a lot about Postals funny part, yes, but I do have to also mention that Postal 1 is rally good. And yes, postal redux is just Postal 1 with a bit better graphics, but I do like it in a way (mainly because of the better quality of the loading screens, because those are just so good. I really like the artistic part of this game). Funny postal? It's good, I love funny postal. But without creepy postal there wouldn't be some stuff in the funny postal that we like so much. Other Dude? The head wound making everything look strange? I don't really think we would have that in newer postal games without postal 1!

Starlog Magazine (December 1995, Issue #221) Scans

It's been a while since I posted about a scanning project. The most recent magazine I scanned was this Starlog Magazine from December 1995!

Starlog originally started out as a Star Trek magazine, but evolved to include all things sci-fi, fantasy, and nichely nerdy. I don't think nichely is a word, but hey, this is my blog and I say and do what I want lol.

Here are some scans I like from the magazine! There is also a link to the full magazine at the end of the post if you're interested in seeing the whole thing!

Let's start off with this subscription form for the magazine.

This takes me back. The thought of filling out a form and mailing it in to purchase a magazine subscription feels so alien now (haha).

I also wanted to point out Robocop, one of my boyfriend's (and my dad's) favs! I actually only recently saw the movie for the first time with my boyfriend, and it was so fun and surprisingly gorey! I wasn't expecting it at all. For some reason I thought the movie was silly and campy? And I mean it was, but the blatant gore and body horror that would come out of nowhere was so shocking to me!

Speaking of filling out mail-in forms to make purchases, this magazine is full of them! Mainly they're for merch and memorabilia. Here are a few of my favorites.

This selection doesn't even include all of the things available to buy from the magazine. I think my favorite are the audio cassettes/CDs and the Star Trek face t-shirts. The pin collector in me also admires the page of Star Trek pins.

The signed movie and tv photos page is SO interesting, too. I wonder how they decided the prices for each celebrity? Part of me can't imagine these are real, but if I was a celeb...I certainly would take 1 second to sign a photo if it was being sold for $40 and I got some kickback lol.

If you could have one of the singed photos from a celebrity on that list, who would it be?

I'd have to pick Gary Sinise!

There are actually quite a few story articles in this magazine. Each have around a 3-6 page spread full of pictures - they're quite fun to look at! Here are some of my favorite pages from the various articles.

I really enjoy how they all have drastically different color backgrounds.

The cover article about how Toy Story was created/animated is cool! I picked this page because I love watching how animators work, especially when they use themselves as reference (like in the above pic).

Lastly, just a couple of random parts from the magazine that interested me.

One was this article about a fantasy fiction author.

The article included many different covers of her books. I wish these could've been in color! I've never read older fantasy adventure novels, but these all looked super appealing to me. I'll have to keep an eye out for some of her books while thrifting.

During the scanning process, I spend a lot of time looking at the front and back covers of the books/magazines I'm scanning. I found myself absolutely enthralled with the back cover of this magazine.

Something about the colors, art, and design just piqued my interest while scanning. I've never heard of this game, much less played it, but I do want to know more about it! I'll probably see if there's a let's play online.

Gosh this is such a cool looking ad for this game. I'm sure the game itself is probably nothing great, but this ad sure is great to look at.

Finished Halo 3 and that's just a good fucking game. Bittersweet in a nice way.

The Gravemind is such a sick antagonist. Much like Halo 2 a lot of this is just "this shit is cool" but again, it speaks in fucking rhymes! The temporary alliance with the Flood to stop the ignition because well, enemy of my enemy is *also* really cool because I feel like that moment sells the Gravemind's fatal flaw better than the logs did? It wants to survive at any cost, and that was a really good way to do the fear and desperation. The Elites have also become just. One of my favorite alien races? I feel like they're very easy to empathize with and there's a pretty nuanced relationship between them, the humans, and the Covenant? Arbiters being a way that their entire way of life and independence was subjugated by villifying revolutionaries to keep the masses under their thumb is both smart as shit and incredibly harrowing. Arbiter is really cool in particular given his complicated relationship and development, like. Guy's just working to do the best he can for people, and he acknowledges his past and it's not at all excused. "Were that it were so easy" is a really good note for him to end things off on on the note of his forgiveness, because I think that's a really good way to show just how mature he is, not that he needed to mature but it's a demonstration of that degree of life experience.

I think something I wasn't super into though was the terminals here. I liked them as the recordings they were in 1+2 and the difficulty lock is annoying. It might just be a me thing but I feel like looking things like this up always makes it harder for me to process the information within and like. I'm not good at shooter games, and Halo is not an easy game for me to play. I could grind it out but I'd feel like that's wasted time, it's just a shame bc 1+2 were good about their terminals!

I do really get why these are games my girlfriend wanted to show me because they're kinda campy, kinda silly, but with a lot of good and legitimately interesting ideas behind them. I'd appreciate more depth, but what's there is good enough and I think we weren't as hard into the "games as art" idea as we've been now, so that might explain why I feel like it's missing some, but again, what's there is good enough. It ends the series well, and I think the tragic yet hopeful ending works for something about space war that's been simmered in thousands of years of authoritarianism, lies, and people who did something unforgivable that they knew was that way.

hey thanks for asking!! i've been thinking about writing up something like this for a while, but i hesitated because neopets is kind of weird to recommend to new players. i'm currently on NEOPETS.COM™ because all the neoclones i'm interested in are invite-only or aren't always accepting/processing applications... anyway here are my Tips(?) (i don't even know what to call this anymore because i got carried away writing it)

(i'll put any warnings/disclaimers at the end because i don't want to look like i'm trying to talk anyone out of checking out neopets lol. there are just some things to be aware of)

most importantly, try to have fun! =)

you can earn some neopoints by giving the games a try, or earn trophies for your profile by getting one of the high scores for the month. not all of the Flash-based games are working at the moment (they're using an emulator that doesn't have full compatibility yet), but Neopets also has a lot of browser-based game options like Sakhmet Solitaire, Dice-A-Roo, Cheat!, and NeoQuest. since those games involve reloading the page a lot, they're also a good way to trigger random events, which can yield NP, rare items, faerie quests, etc.

check out the spotlights & contests! you can earn nice prizes for some of these, like the Art Gallery and the Poetry Contest. even if you don't care to enter, I think it's interesting to browse the old entries and see what it took to win the Beauty Contest in the early 2000s.

you can read up on the lore and history of the site on Jellyneo's Book of Ages, which hosts information about the site's characters, old plots, collectible cards, and more. the Neopedia and the Gallery of Evil are also worth a look!

Jellyneo and The Daily Neopets are great resources! Jellyneo's Item Database in particular is nice for looking up approximate item prices

if you explore the site a bit, you'll find some activities and freebies you can access daily. do these dailies consistently for a decent profit and a chance of getting rare items. Jellyneo has a useful list of dailies here! Trudy's Surprise in particular will pay out increasing amounts of NP if you spin on consecutive days.

you can win 15 items a day by beating opponents in the Battledome, and even the easier opponents-- the Chia Clown and the S750 Kreludan Defender Robot-- have some decently profitable drops. start training one of your Neopets at the Swashbuckling Academy on Krawk Island using Dubloons, which you can receive from dailies or purchase via the Shop Wizard. some inexpensive beginner equipment: Scroll of Ultranova, Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer, Parasol of Unfortunate Demise, Downsize!, and Magical Healing Potion. oh, and don't train the Movement stat-- it's mostly useless!

browser extensions and userscripts can make the site more user-friendly/less janky! I use Ruffle to fix some of the broken Flash elements, and out of this list, I use the following Tampermonkey scripts: Search Helper, Sidebar Dailies, Grumpy/Wise King Autofill, BD Winnings Counter, Random Events Logger, and Shenkuu Lunar Temple Solver

as a website founded by white British university students in 1999, Neopets' portrayal of other cultures has often ranged from insensitive or orientalist (several "tribal" pet wearables/a character from the Lost Desert in a stereotypical "belly dancer" outfit/the existence of a single East Asian mishmash land) to outright nasty (the "Sacrificers" plot in 2000 revolving around violent "cannibal islanders", plus a lot of issues with Mystery Island's lore/designs in general). the site also has a "no religion" rule and blocks words like "Jewish", but has a Christmas color for pets... I don't necessarily want them to remove old content entirely, but maybe some parts of the site warrant a Neopets version of that Looney Tunes disclaimer lol.

Neopets is heavy on gambling and chance, and random events (which have a chance of occurring every time you load a page) can be positive or negative. put valuable items in the Safety Deposit Box as soon as you get them, because they can be taken from your inventory via random event or unlucky wheel spin!

each individual pet has foods they will refuse to eat, books they will refuse to read, etc. Certain Neopet species may have unique "allergies" or other quirks, e.g. the Grarrl and the Skeith can eat non-food items, which can be useful for discarding junk, but can also result in accidentally feeding them valuable items... NEVER click "feed" when you're trying to use medicine/potions!!

overall, the site is kind of a mess right now! there are frequent errors and slow load times caused by increased traffic, poorly-implemented word filters that restrict words like "grape" and "cucumber," and the site currently exists in a half-converted state between the old and new layout. it's also outdated/poorly coded in a lot of aspects; pet and user names can never be changed, for example, so if you create or adopt a pet with a name deemed inappropriate, they will straight-up just delete that pet. this recently happened to someone on the subreddit who advertised the fact that they'd adopted a pet named Meowyjuana. RIP 🫡

W x S: love these characters so much. their dynamic as a group is brilliant, every single relationship within the group is so fun!! i also really love their story, and they get points for reminding me of my A3! days, with the whole "theatre in shambles and threatened with being shut down" concept, which they pull off really well!! adore the shenanigans and general chaos caused by them- and the silliness they normally show off does make their more serious moments feel more impactful. they have fun songs too!! not at all surprised that these clowns seem to be the fan faves, they've definitely earned it <33 (i am TERRIFIED about the possibility of their disbandment i will sob so hard) also Rui's in W x S, enough said

L/N: they feel like the most realistic unit to me!! their story about the fear and pain of drifting away from your beloved friends hits SO hard, the conflict happening between them, especially Shiho being frustrated by Honami's people-pleasing her snake classmates- things like that happen all of the time in a school and they feel really relatable. Saki's illness and its effects are pretty emotional too. plus, the Virtual Singers have the best outfits in their Sekai in my opinion, i adore the looks, especially Miku and Kaito's. they have some extremely catchy songs too, Peaky Peaky, Tale of the Deep-sea Lily and Roki being ones always in my head!!

N25: about 90% of my favourite songs in the game are from their unit (including Usseewa which is probably my fave song in the game rn), in fact i knew some of them before i got into the game!! plus, i find their songs the easiest to play generally, which means i've become quite familiar with them!! love the concept of them mostly being online friends through Nightcord, feel like it's quite relatable for us chronically online lot, showing how our online friends can be just as valuable as our irls <3 plus the characters explicitly struggling with mental illness is so refreshing to see, especially with the way it's portrayed- it's not like they suddenly get "healed" or "fixed" by the end of their main and event stories, but it's shown to be a gradual process, with the occasional slip back into a less-than-idea mental state within their stories. i'm not too invested in Kanade and Mafuyu (in fact, Mafuyu's character and situation makes me rather uncomfortable due to how close to home it hits) but i ADORE Mizuki and Ena, their bantering is everything to me and i love both of their characters

MMJ: i really love how their stories really focus on like the brutal reality? of being in a performing industry. the way they deal with crushing expectations and some weird fans, especially poor Shizuku, how she's pestered by them all the time. speaking of Shizuku, i've started to really love her character recently, she's just so lovely!! and Minori's also really fun to watch, her willingness to keep on trying despite their fans being really mean to her sometimes is so strong of her!! they also have super pretty card art most of the time

VBS: tbh, the reason i've ranked them low is cause they don't feel like a proper, complete unit to me. a lot of the time, it really feels like it's just two duos collabing, unlike the other units who actually feel much more involved with EVERY other person in their unit, not just their main partner. it kinda hurts to rank them this low because i LOVE An and Kohane, but tbh Akito and Toya don't interest me as much? i'm not sure why, i really like their dynamics with other characters, but i'm not all that invested in just them (Akito is slowly growing on me though, as much as i hate to admit it cause i, like everyone else, love bullying him) they have some great songs, the Anhane Odo cover is just brilliant and i'm OBSESSED with City

213341 Art Studio IIIA ⋆ Week 3 - Crit Week and the Eternal Sleepiness

With group members Olivia, Bella and Stevee in attendance, we headed around the available gallery spaces for a little window shopping:

You should make it with your skills and knowledge, and with the materials and processes familiar to you.

It must interact with your body, made so that it can be worn, held, stood on, or something similar.

It may not be functional, apart from the function art has.

You should be imaginative in your design, even fantastical. What you make must be abstract, it must not represent anything already existing in the world.

Perhaps it will evoke something that has yet-to-be-seen.

Yet you and I can see the world through this thing - therefore it may have eye holes, and these must be two of circular and between 45mm (1 3/4") in diameter, and spaced 65mm (2 1/2") apart.

It's also worth acknowledging the sound-based side of Richard's works. Not because I'm drawing influence from them at the moment, but they sure do look cool.

Meanwhile with the group, we were all busy getting a grasp on the dimensions and requirements of eachother's works.

For such talks, we have a groupchat on Instagram, which is especially useful, as we've still not all been present in a room at the same time.

For my little Age of Empires project, I overhauled the Pop Concrète Bandcamp page I used last semester, now decked out with pixellated snippets taken from the in-game graphics.

I miss playing this game until I remember how frustrating and obtuse the in-game mechanics can be. With Age of Empires being classed as a real-time strategy game, I chose to swap the words around and name this project:

Time Isn't Real Strategy - a tongue-in-cheek observation on rose-tinted hindsight. Emotional past perception can't be trusted.

With this presentation being a small-scale catch-up on process more than anything, I kept a small scope, only making two songs total.

Audio was sampled from YouTube and compiled straight into Audacity. I even took a 'sword fighting' sound effect and combined it with the drums; which I sampled from Kirk Lightsey And Rudolph Johnson With The All Stars' Habiba.

Using audacity, I adjusted all the audio to be in the same tempo, and from there, I hooked up the SP-202. Recording had to be timed to EXACTLY the right intervals in order to loop properly; with plenty trial and error.

Mixing was tricky. Amplifying audio brought warmth and punch to the drum beats, but would create loud 'pops' that needed to be ironed out. I was only able to do this following the presentation.

The song was also in mono, to which I added a little stereo reverb so that it'd better fill the eardrums.

After a light dusting in extra in-game sound effects, it was finished.

Presentation, although discussed with Emma, was an afterthought. I added a QR code to the Bandcamp site, rehashed the 'sound player' graphic I used for the Pop Concrète stickers, as well as placing another screenshot from the game; choosing something that had a variety of in-game objects to jog the memory.

Come presentation day, I chucked the print onto a plinth and let the critique group go ham, interacting much how they did with Pop Concrète.

CRITIQUE TIME, BABY.

People scanned in their own time. Had to step in and give a warning about the unmastered volume 'pops'. Couple heads bopping, some feet tapping.

Needed to be more inviting, QR codes "always look sketchy". At least with the QR code on a brick, it was silly enough that you don't take the risk seriously. On a piece of paper, "...anyone could do that"; "...feel like my bank account will be stolen..."

Different types of links... email? Stream? Non-labeled QR codes in a gallery setting? Generational divide in listening? Focus on breaking down barriers of suspicion.

Everyone was playing the music off their phones - but the intention was not to create cacophony this time - Gallery listening vs. personal listening -Listen to it in the gallery, download to listen later? Is your audience an individual on their own timeline or is it a group of people passing your work?

"Make it available to all, [so that] everyone can get a piece of their work..." "Why are you in Fine Arts and not studying Music?" -> With my art and presentation, I can "...define the difference."

"Unlocked memory..." Didnt recognise the sounds, seems familiar; "something about that property is evocative..." Two people recognised the source material: "...didnt realise I knew Age of Empires, I just remembered [sound effect video from game] as a kid..."

Dissemination - I might lose some engagement from a plinth presentation. Relational Aesthetics by Nicola Boreau. Post-production: Contemporary art draws from either the "computer programmer" and the "DJ" - people that draw from existing material and reform/recombine it.

For today's edition of the Plunderphonical Chronicle, we jump forward before jumping back. In 2010, Chuck Person - alias of Daniel Lopatin - released Eccojams Vol. 1, coinciding with cryptic video releases on his channel Sunsetcorp.

Internet music afficionados may call Eccojams the foundation to vaporwave, a (sadly flash-in-the-pan) genre of plunderphonics, characterised by slowed, echo-y 1980s pop, usually playing in its entirely with little modification.

Eccojams itself was a little more 'swaggy' with it, repeatedly looping small lyric segments of popular songs to re-frame their message. On track "B4" for example, the line "...there's nobody here..." from Chris De Burgh's Lady In Red is looped over and over; creating a familiarly un-familiar atmosphere.

For an example, I created my own 'eccojam'.

I took Yesterday Once More by the Carpenters, looped the line "...all my best memories, come back clearly to me..." and soaked it in delay effects. Given the nostalgia theme of this semester's output so far, it's quite fitting:

Of course, when it comes to Eccojams and the wider output of the vaporwave genre, we once again must attest that-

The late Robert Earl Davis Jr. was from the Houston hip-hop scene, characterized in the late 1980s by a slower sound compared to other hip-hop genres at the time.

Going by DJ Screw, he took it even slower. The tools of the trade were a turntable and E-mu SP 1200: a 1986 sampler that I omitted from my sampler timeline, but holds just as much influence as the MPC. Admire its dated, exorbitantly-expensive beauty.

Performing these slowed mixes, the listener would have more time to sit and reflect on the lyrics, upon which DJ Screw would scratch and loop certain lines for further emphasis.

Consumption of Codeine - taken in the form of lean - was on the rise at the time, and the mellowing effect of the drug was a contributor to the sound... and appeal.

An example of this is 3 minutes into Inside Looking Out, where Screw's record scratches allow the lyrics a chance to breathe, placing emphasis on certain lines through their repetition.

We now call this genre Chopped and Screwed, the forbearer genre to all things vapor and ecco; which still continues today in honor of DJ Screw's passing by codeine overdose.

From one skull-album-cover to another, and back to 2011 with Daniel Lopatin's - going by Oneohtrix Point Never - album Replica.

There are few pieces of music that I have played more than Replica, in fact, my coming-across of Replica last year was what kickstarted my interest with plunderphonics as a whole; and what continues to drive the ethos of my works; from style to concept.

As an album, it's a beat-less, brooding and largely atmospheric collection of synth progressions; that either play on their own or - and most alluringly - accompany a sample.

How Lopatin samples on this album is most interesting. He entirely sources from 1980s-90s TV adverts, cutting them down to a small fragment, and letting it repeat; as synth swells gradually build up to accompany it.

"I like this idea that I’m not actually a musician and that, instead, I’m kind of like Indiana Jones — an adventurer who is looking for old things that are meaningful. So, like, we don’t tend to think of television commercials and ephemera like that..."

The sample-work is jarring, too. At points you're left with nothing but a fuzzy sample playing over and over - not even as a groovy loop, but as if midway through a sentence.

"I categorized the sounds a few different ways, mostly by theme. One strain of infomercial [which I called], "The Middle Class Lie," appealed to me the most. Those had products that were supposed to make you feel wealthier than you actually are..."

Samples were taken from an archive website called Videomercials, from where Lopatin would buy a DVD compilation and quickly skim through.

Some moments are emphasized. The song "Remember" repeats its name, itself taken from a McDonald's ad. Lopatin's works regularly dabble with memory; so take it as instruction.

Replica is fascinating because it's nowhere. An advert sells you a potential experience, and while it can evoke a bygone time, the memories aren't lived. Replica sonically leans in to this discomfort, cutting away the legibility of each sample until all that's left is distinctly unnatural mush.

Best Advice: Now, I'm not really a person who gives the best advice here- but my advice is to just keep doing what you love to do.

Quick rant- I always saw my art to be not as good compared to others'. Even as a child, the other kids always underestimated my art. But where am I now? I work for multiple projects online as an artist, have a lot of people support my work, and I'm currently taking an art-related course in college.

All I did was to keep doing what I was passionate about, and that's art. I love drawing. I love to create. I love to illustrate my thoughts and my appreciation towards something. I. LOVE. ART.

So hey- ranting aside, you never know where your passion towards something takes you to, but we know for sure it'll be one hell of a journey. There's a lot of opportunities waiting out there for you to grab, so don't worry if you can't get any for now.

Enjoy the journey, and enjoy the process of it. One day, you'll look back at where you started- and you'll be proud at the progress that you've made throughout the years :D

Nowhere near as exciting as your ex-agent Dabi and Mafia family Tomura idea, but what about a bakery AU starring:

Kurogiri, as the owner who hires people shunned and maligned for their quirks to give them a sense of belonging and worth

Tenko, as the anxious, angry young man forced by his dad to find a job or be kicked out onto the street

Touya, as the lead baker with mysterious burn scars who teaches Tenko the trade while teasing/challenging him constantly

Toga, as the energetic pastry chef who loves her crushes, blood, and the art of food in that order

Spinner, as the barista who no longer hides his mutation quirk and is fiercely protective of his friends

Magne, as the manager who's more like a big sister to the staff than their supervisor

Twice, as the prep cook with a sad past but hopes for the future

Mustard, as the high school student working the counter part time and always coming up with "experiments" when no one's watching him

Atsuhiro Sako, as the supply salesman with a flair for the dramatic

Plus, Moonfish, Muscular, UA kids/teachers, and others appearing as customers

Basically, Tenko applies for a job as an assistant baker because 1. It's at night so he won't have to deal with people, 2. It doesn't require any previous experience, and 3. His dad threatened to kick him out of the house if he doesn't "stop wasting his life on video games and either get a job or go to school". He nervously shows up for the interview and is surprised at how kind both Kurogiri and Magne are to him despite his awkwardness, scars/skin, and his quirk. In this AU, people with quirks considered "potentially villainous" are closely monitored and treated as if they're destined to become criminals (a lot like the reactions to Shinsō's quirk). His father often brings up how Tenko accidentally killed the family dog when his quirk activated for the first time at the age of four or five. Years of mental and emotional abuse like this reinforces the idea that his son must have been born bad and any attempts at striving for something will end in failure.

To Tenko's pleasant surprise he gets hired. His first night on the job starts with Kurogiri teaching him how to mix dough and put it through a machine that turns it into bagels. (BTW, I work as a baker at a bagel shop, which is how this silly idea came about.) Tenko tells himself it's just like playing a video game, and quickly starts getting the hang of things.

Then he meets Touya, who's supposed to teach him the actual baking process. Tenko's immediately annoyed by Touya's attitude and teasing ("You Decay any of this equipment and it's coming out of your paycheck, mophead"). He throws himself into the task, determined to shut Touya up. And secretly, Touya's impressed by his show of determination and tackling something new. He hopes to himself that Tenko lasts unlike other people who fell by the wayside.

And Tenko does stay, getting to know the others who've come to form a sort of family at the bakery. He becomes close with Himiko and Shuichi in particular, empathizing with the isolation they endured and the harsh demands Toga's own parents put on her. These new friendships make putting up with Touya every night worth it.

Then Tenko overhears an angry phone conversation and realizes Touya's not all smooth confidence and devil may care attitude. That his home life may be just as messy and painful as his. Bit by bit, Tenko learns more about his coworker and opens up in turn, each seeing they have quite a bit in common. Rivalry turns to friendship (though it still has a healthy streak of competition). Over time, however, things between them start to shift yet again. The usual jokes ("Aw, did you burn your fingers? Want me to kiss them and make it better?") cause awkward silences and flustered backpedaling. The number of accidental hand touches and bumping into each other increases ten fold. Eventually, it gets to a point where they can't deny romantic feelings snuck up on them when they weren't looking.

Like I said, not exciting or action-packed. Most of the conflict would be about the characters dealing with unhealthy family relationships, overcoming the terrible things they were taught to believe about themselves, and society's crappy treatment of them, I think. And they'd fight both by sticking together and supporting one another rather than being forced to become villains. It'll take on a clearer shape as it's written.

Thanks for letting me ramble! I just wanted to share so maybe my mind will settle down and let me work on this.

I could have never come with anything so well written or so complex because I have never worked in a bakery, but you have! (Your) Friendship Reaction: Friday Night With The Girls!

A fairly casual Friday night sleepover with your best friend(s)

Karina:

She had asked you to come over tonight to play games, eat, drink, sleep. Maybe some scary movies. However, the plan seemingly changed when showed up to her place and found her in the bathroom bleaching her hair with a box of burgundy hair dye on the sink in front of her.

Karina definitely isn't shy about dying her hair, she changes hair colors like one would change out a load of laundry. It feels like every time you see you she has a new hair color, so this really isn't new. It's also not new for her to switch plans last minute cause truth be told, she never knows what she wants to do until that moment hits and an idea springs into her mind.

As she continued bleeching her hair, you hoped up on the sink counter and watched her while you talked. She said you could use her nail polish, mess with her makeup, do whatever you wanted. Play whatever music you wanted. If you liked, she even offered to dye your hair as well since she has plenty. It was up to you!

You guys ended up talking about a number of things. Discussing the latest episode of your favorite tv series and guessing what would happen next using logic from what has happened thus far. She laughed at random jokes and lines you repeated from the show, knowing exactly what scene you were refering to as she commented back with the next line. Afterwards y'all talked music videos, celebrities you both like and dislike maybe. Filled each other in on the news (celebrity or politics). Once the bleach was in and her hair was held up in a plastic bag, she went to grab her keys so you could both go grab some food, she let you choose the place.

It was always kinda weird how shameless she is but at the same time, her confidence about it is inspiring and one of her best qualities. Anywho, hoping in her broken apart damaged black car that no-one knows how it's still running, Karina drove you guys to the restraunt and put in your order picking up the food and driving back JUST in time for her to wash out her hair.

You ate as she washed her hair and attempted to eat little bites of her food as she applied the hair coloring, not wanting to waste time in between. As you low-key called her gross and made jokes you still helped her eat while feeding her little bites of food, teasing her sometimes and making her chase the fork/spoon/iteam. Overall, the eating process was full of laughing and her threatening to dump the hair dye on you just for you to threaten dipping her food in the hair color changing soup in return.

As her hair dye had to sit in for 45 minutes, the two of you watched music videos and played kids monopoly, or jenga. As they're the only games she currently owns! Karina being the not-so-well-focused girl that she is, ended up losing for silly reasons. In jenga she lost because she didn't realise 2/3 of the blocks in the middle row had already been pulled out, since she was eyes glued on the video, and she ended up pulling the last block and knocking the whole tower over in the process. During monopoly she simply had bad luck of sitting in jail throughout half of the game, allowing you to buy the majority of the properties. The other half the game she was paying you and the bank causing her to go bankrupt with only one or two properties being owned by her.

After the game you end up helping her wash out and dry her hair upon her endless begging you to just for her in the end to decide she isn't sure how she feels about this color. After spending about 4 hours total on her hair, she kinda wishes it was still black but she decides to leave it anyways. Insisting she'll clean up the bathroom mess tomorrow (she won't) she pulls you back to the living room and puts on your favorite movie for you guys to watch in the backround while sharing random stories back and forth.

Ciara isn't entirely sure why she invited you over at night knowing well enough she isn't a night time person. She's usually asleep before 11pm. However, she's really missed hanging out with you lately and your presence alone gives her so much energy and makes her happy.

When you arrived, she was eating a bowl of cheerios and drinking some gatorade while scrolling through instagram looking at denim skirts. The first thing she said to you as you walked inside the house was 'what do you think of this?' As she held her phone up to show you a light blue denim knee length skirt with a yellow sunshine on the bottom right side. You gave your opinion on it as you sat across from her at the table. "You're welcome to the kitchen. I don't care what you eat as long as I don't have to make it." She pointed towards the kitchen as she continued to scroll. Almost dropping the phone in her bowl of milk, as you made your choice on what to do, Ciara ended up slapping the phone back at herself and hitting herself in the face with it. Laughing and half crying, she placed the phone on the table and held her nose. "Maybe I should put that down for now!" She stated fairly loudly before getting back to her food.

After eating and placing the dishes in the sink for her to wash later, Ciara headed to her room with you close behind. Forgetting she had washed her sheets earlier, Ciara had to now make her bed. She asked you for help putting the bottom sheet on, let you choose your own blanket from the closet, she made the rest of the bed half efforted. Wrinkles covered the sheets and the pillows were simply thrown at the top of the bed but she didn't care much since you guys were both going to be laying in it immediately anyways!

Crawling into bed to lay on the side closest to the window, Ciara situated herself before tapping the bed beside her for you to lay down. Knowing you well enough, she handed you a book you love/turned the tv onto your favorite channel and let you do your own things as she scrolled through instagram once again occasionally asking for your opinion on certain clothing iteams.

If you have any to share, she listened to you share your thoughts, about whatever was on your mind. She gave her advice and shared her honest opinions in return. If you just wanted to lay there and watch your show/read your book she was fine with that too. She just wanted to be with you and hang together. Not necessarily do something together, that's what tomorrow is for!

At some point, your unsure of when, she managed to fall asleep facing the wall using her arm as a pillow, her actual pillow tossed to the foot of the bed. She was curled up halfway in a ball half stretched out, taking up half the bed space. She looked peaceful, almost dead she was so still and quiet, but peaceful.

Monse:

She had everything planned out! Dinner: Taco Bar! She made different kinds of main fillings based on your tastes and hers. Included little things she knows you love and she set the table up in a very aesthetic and neat way. Drinks: at the store she made sure to buy a few of your favorite drinks as well as a case of water. She also made homemade punch using sherbet ice cream and 7up/Sprite. Outfits: She had your guys matching Marvel/DC robes ans pj sets pulled out and on her bed. Hers was a Nebula/Poison ivy (depending on which one you prefer) set while yours was Gamora/Harley Quinn (dending).

Once you got there, you guys would eat then change. As you ate, she asked all about your day, let you rant and get everything off your cheat if need be. She told you what you wanted to hear and what you needed to hear as you guys discissed several topics. After eating she let you use the bedroom/bathroom to get ready first while she cleaned up the mess before going to change her own clothes and get ready for bed.

Afterwards, she set up the table with posterboard, construction paper, assorted art supplies, ect because tonight you guys will be making your own board game! Whether it be a toally made up game based on shared thoughts between you two or a remake of an already owned and made game. EX.: Marvel/DC based monopoly. Twister using memes. Your own version of battle ship or LIFE. Whatever it may be!

As you both divided up the jobs of who does what parts and as you agreed upon one main idea for the game/gave ideas for the game, Monse played your guys 'Alien Dreamz' playlist AKA the music playlist you guys made last time you spent the night. The whole time y'all were making the game she kept making really bad puns. As she was measuring the cardboard she came up with 'whos the King of school supplies? The RULER!' Before laughing at her own joke. She asked: 'Whats a frogs favorite art supply? Ribbon-t, Ribbon-t' and actually sounding like a frog as she cut ribbon for decoration. The list is endless honestly.

While working on your guys project, between her bad jokes, she complimented you on random things that she genuinely adores about you. Like how pretty/handsom/cute you look when you're focused. Or how she loves the way your hands look as you use a pair of scissors. How soft your eyelashes look. How much she loves your laugh/singing voice. Ect. If you compliment her back, she'll blush and giggle feeling shy but so happy under the surface.

Eventually, she gets really tired and asks if your ready to go to bed saying y'all can finish the game in the morning. You end up laying on the bed she made on the floor out of twelve dozens blankets and pillows, stuffed animals and sheets. While you lay together you share a bowl of popcorn/snack of your choice while watching the Simpsons or any tv show you want if you don't like the Simpsons. She tries so hard to wait for you to fall asleep first so you won't feel lonely but she was so tired she ended up falling asleep a few minutes before you do.

Can you/do you stay up late or fall asleep at a decent/early hour?

My Answer:

Depends on the day! Some nights I'm asleep at 7pm some times I can stay up for 80+ hours. It just depends!

I think I’d set you up with Atticus!

It sounds like you’d be able to keep up with each other pretty well— he’s constantly dabbling in all sorts of new hobbies, so the fact that you’re involved in so many different things is super appealing to him. He’s always looking for something new to try, so it’s not difficult at all to talk him into joining you for gaming sessions or posing for your art. In turn, though, you’ve gotta be prepared for him to drag you into his own shenanigans— but since you’re a theater kid, that’s probably not much of an issue for you.

Even though he’s pretty silly on a daily basis, he’s much more intelligent than you’d expect just from observing him; he’d be able to keep up with your analytical discussions about media, because he’s just as interested in that kinda stuff. And since his life experience has been radically different from most people, he’s got some really interesting points to bring to the table in those conversations.

He’s energetic and difficult to handle, so your position as a wild mom friend would be so great; since you’re both on the same wavelength, it’s much easier for you to talk him down from yet another scheme, and you can understand his thought process better than a lot of his other friends. He appreciates how you’re willing and able to keep up with and take care of him without asking him to change who he is.

2064 Read Only Memories: A Review

Welcome back to another video game review here on Mummified Games. Today were going to be taking a look at the modern Point and Click Mystery game 2064: Read Only Memories. By Midboss.

This game has a lot of charm to it. I Love how this game presents itself. The Music, art, story, and voice work, is all great and do a really great job of pulling me in. I did not want to stop playing. This was the first time where I was like okay maybe i play for 2 hours. And then write the review. But sadly there was no way I could do that if I wanted to make my deadline.

So the game is a future cyberpunk scene where Humans have found a way to cybernetically and biologically augment their bodies. Sort of just like every other Cyberpunk cenario. Just par for the course at this point.

Wouldn't have it any other way.

But what's great about this game is that it's not overly burdened with the constant narrative of life sucks and there's inequality and class disparity.

It's not dystopian cyberpunk, it's more optimistic. People seem to really be jammin with the future that they find themselves in. For the most part.

So it's your standard affair people are making so many augmentations to themselves in so many different ways. That there is a rebel group that is coming up that wants to see humanity return to who they were.

Not like a full blown god's perfect image, it's not a religious thing. But still embracing tradition and what makes humans human.

I don't know if we have the science to make Snake people then I'm all for it.

Ooo la la.

There are Robots that this big company is making that are designed to Walk like the humans, talk like the humans. But it's all just fancy code. And then the game tells you about one scientist that is working on transcending that limitation of just fancy code. And make something new.

Story intro out of the way, The scene opens with your less than standout apartment and you learn that you are a journalist, sort of.

And after you go through a nothing of a tutorial. As in like it's almost not even there cause it's so basic. You write a report and then go to bed.

INCITING ACTION

In the middle of the night a little blue robot hacks your door. And breaks into your apartment. Interfaces with your computer, cleans your apartment and also tries to clean the old computer, bricking it in the process.

You wake up and they tell you that they have selected you out of all known contacts of their master to help them track their master down. He was Captured last night and you need to join the robot to track down their master.

The robot's name is Turing, probably named after the real person Alan Turing the Computer Scientist.

A note about the dialogue and interactions with Turing. ALL THEIR LINES ARE VOICED! This game gives you so much during the process. There is a lot of reading to be doing in this game and luckily it's not all put on you.

I don't want you to think that I don't like Reading. Or that I think reading is hard. But if I'm meant to put multiple hours into a game. Doing nothing but reading for the entirety of it can get tiring

So I'm glad that so much is fully voiced. Gives you the chance to look down and tweet your love of this game for a second.

And that if there is a name or something that comes up you instantly know how it's meant to be pronounced. Instead of having to wait till you say it outloud in a video game review and suddenly everyone thinks “wait Tony, you say its like that? Wow okay”

Look, I have yet to hear anyone talk about Itch in casual conversation so I have no idea if you need to add the Dot I O to the end of it or if I sound like a Boomer who says out loud Dot Com at the end of every website name. “Yeah i just look it up on Google Dot Com”

I'm trying here folks I really am.

So after Turing tells you about what they need you join them on their mission to track down their creator and figure out what's at the bottom of this whole thing.

A note about the profile creation scene, it's quite funny and I thought it was super cool how they include multiple ways of character settings.

There's nothing visual that you can do to change your character so there's that. But Turing asks you for your name, you just type it out and I was excited for maybe a robot voice that was going to try to pronounce Mummified but it didn't go well.

Asks you for your pronouns, Yes! I love it. I would expect nothing less from a developer like Midboss. The people who host the Steam Summer of Pride Sale for the last couple of years Highlighing Queer games.

But the fact that they don't just limit to just He/Her/They but also Zir, and another one that slips my mind. And also an option to input your own preferred pronouns. SO COOL!

And I was ready to maybe answer one more silly question. That's where I was thinking the game would take things, assuming based on its sense of humor and the jokes that would come up in this game.

But no it was a real question about dietary needs and restrictions, to be kept in mind when out and about and talking about food. Holy crap that's so cool.

So the game gives you options like Omnivore, Vegetarian, Vegan, Halal, Gluten Free Dairy fr

What a super cool thing to include in your game. This just adds to the inclusion that is offered to players of all different ways of life.

So I just hunted down the list of food options in the video recording I took of this game and I'm reminded of just how funny this game is.

There are great jokes in this. There are subtle allegories to our own real world things in this game.

Turing says they found a better door that you could use to replace the current door you have due to its sub standard encryption features to prevent people from hacking though. And they recommend a particular model of door and mention it has over 300 reviews on Congo.

Wait... Congo. HA! Okay that got me. Cause you know Congo the river. And the Amazon river. I thought it was funny.

Also there is a joke about the Creator having a list of different things on the TV that they were watching like Ted’s Tech Tips. That one got me, because it might not be a thing but I'd like to think it's a nod to Linus Tech Tips.

This game is filled with great cute jokes. There are a couple of options that the game gives you when you wake up to see a strange robot in your room, some of the reactions are more fearful. And while reading them as an option I thought to myself WHY?

This little friend is Cute as hell. There's no way I would be scared of them. Their cute faces and little arms. I love them so much.

So the story is sound and the writing in it is so well done. The voice acting is great as well. Turing sounds innocent and has a cute childish nature to them, but they’re not dumb to say the least, they’re still the most advanced AI program in the world.

The gameplay is also stellar. Most of the interactions with things in this world are done with 4 different options.

Look: The game will give you a description of what the item, thing, person, whatever is.

Talk: If it's a person you can talk to them. Or sometimes things have voice commands.

Take/Touch, you might be able to pick something up or turn it on. Computers would take you to another window and you could do other things inside it.

Use time on: At the start of the game you're given an ID card and you pick up a pair of headphones in your apartment. The id could be used to get you places or scan for whatever might come up. Or you can connect your headphones to random things to hear stuff. What's funny is that you can use your headphones on almost anything and you can get some description of what you hear.

Real basic stuff. Like it's described. It's a Point And CLick Mystery Game. A lot of the game is being given a scene and you can talk to people in it, or interact with the things on the static screen.

Everything in this game flows so well together. Nothing takes you out of the experience. Its a story that takes you in and doesn't let go.

I think this is a game that I can fully recommend to people no matter what. If you have it. If you were curious about it. If you’ve never heard of it. Any range of feeling and knowledge of this game I highly recommend you go check it out.

That being said, you might be waiting a while for a confession, be it due to him being dense or inexplicably shy. He too loves video games, that would be one of your cheap takeaway dates really. He has a bit of a sweet-tooth too, so he’ll happily await any baking days you have! Sketching and writing isn’t his thing, but don’t let that make you think he’ll never offer you praise for your hard-work! 

Overall, you two will get on like a house on fire and be a pretty relaxed together :3

I think your man is Loke! He finds your freckles and glasses the absolute cutest ever! Whether you’re in a shy mood or a sassy mood, he will find you adorable all over and finds your sassy comments to be a source of great entertainment for him. He will love to give you hugs and cuddles, in fact, he craves them sometimes! Baking is a lot of fun and not because he gets a sweet treat at the end, he’ll genuinely love helping you (if you want help, if baking is a sort of you-time, he’ll give you that space). He’d love to see what you sketch, sometimes he may be a bit vain and ask you to sketch him. Make him look hideous and he’ll laugh himself silly. It’d be more of a fun joke as opposed to being genuinely mean. He’s not great at video games but he’ll love to cheer you on as you play!

Overall, he’s genuinely fond of you and loves to be around you!

Oh boy! I think your man would be Masaomi Kida! Like Loke, he thinks you’re the picture of adorableness! He’s used to picking away at shyness and allowing people to come out of their shell around him, so he’ll probably see more of your sassy side than the other boys here. Also, he’s an easy boy to sass so you’ll have a lot of fun doing that. He loves video games too and will always invite you over to his for video game days when it’s raining. Once more, a man who loves baking! Meaning the cakes and not the process of making them. I headcanon he’s terrible with cakes (they always explode) so don’t let him near the oven. Please. With regards to sketching, he’s similar to Loke really. In his mind, you could never make a bad picture of him. Not because he’s great looking, but because your art is amazing!
