Wild could easily guess the reason why he'd never be able to meet his soulmate. He was kept in the shrine of resurrection for 100 years following his death. But when he somehow gets a memory of when he finally learned about his soulmate connection, a papercut on his finger that he can't remember getting, a pit opens in his stomach as he realises. His soulmate didn't die just because of the calamity. They died because of him.

i contain multitudes and can say that i am a little :( about vex and percy being teammates with benefits because i think there’s something particularly heartbreaking about the dynamic that was neither of them ever said a thing even though they both were aware of it and it took losing percy for vex to finally admit it and Even Then, she couldn’t say it to percy’s face when they got him back, percy was the one who had to make the first move (that they were both alive for at least) and he was only able to do that because he’d heard her confession, because he never would’ve thought otherwise. to be clear, i also very much enjoy the story being told, i think i just wish they’d maybe committed more significantly to This Is A Campaign-Inspired Story Rather Than A Retelling sooner in the show so that maybe there would be a bit more grounding or set-up for the storylines the narrative is focusing on (and i understand why they wouldn’t), because i think they’re doing very well with percy’s arc for example, because they started with focusing on his and keeping his beats mostly the same and that seems to be much the same case as some of his second wave of meaty character stuff has arrived. but with vex they’ve aimed for the same character beats but it doesn’t always feel as earned or really feel like much character at all; i think saundor particularly was a bit of an :/, since in the campaign it was really a catalyst for vex interrogating her role in the party and her morality and something she struggled to get over and that haunted her far beyond the walls of that tree, but in the show it hasn’t really had a clear impact on vex beyond the scope of the episode itself — syldor certainly has, but the challenge that saundor presented didn’t really have much weight beyond its moment. and obviously a large part of that’s also probably just, 7 protagonists and wanting to expand the perspectives to antagonists and give more room for side characters is a lot of things to cover. and, i say with love, perhaps a bit too ambitious for a 12 episode per season, ~22 minute runtime show if they want their characters to have the kind of depth that really makes campaign 1 shine the way it does.

levi’s waiting for you at the kitchen table by the time you make it downstairs. his slender fingers drum against the polished wood, to the beat of a song you can’t remember, and when he registers your presence his dark brows lift —

“you look decent,” he murmurs, eyes slowly trailing up your body, lingering in places that made your breath catch. if it were anyone else, you’d be offended, scoffing around a “what is that supposed to mean?”

but levi isn’t just anyone. and you know that though he may seem displeased — unimpressed or disinterested— his fragile heart beat frantically behind his ribcage, in a twisted pursuit to jump from his chest.

knowing this, your response comes lightly. “you don’t look too bad yourself, mr. ackerman.”

his fingers stutter. “well, mrs. ackerman, all the credit goes to you. this was your idea, after all.”

you shuffle closer, and his eyes glint as you make your way to him, legs uncrossing as the smile on your face grows devilish. “oh no, i can’t take credit just yet.”

he hums bemusedly.

“your outfit isn’t quite completed.”

his brows knit together as he peers up at you through delicate, inky feathers. “it…isn’t?”

you shake your head, bangs ruffling as you do so. “you’re missing quite the essential accessory, ‘vi. i’m nearly disappointed.”

his lips part but quickly clamp shut as you fish through your handbag, pushing chapstick, jewellery, and makeup to the side before you find what you were looking for — pulling it out with a gasp.

“here!” you hold a headband up to him, one with animal ears and fur on the top. before he can protest, you settle atop his lap and place it on his head, grinning when his lips thin into a line. “oh, now i’ll take credit for this.”

he grumbles all the way to the car, complaining about how silly he looks and the fact that his cadets won’t take him seriously after such a display. he makes no move to remove it, though.

♱ 𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒂:

choso frowns at himself in the mirror, thin brows bunching together as he pouts.

“do i look okay?”

you turn to him, eyes flitting across his face caked with cheap stage makeup. you reach a finger out to tuck a stray strand of hair back. “yeah, nothing’s smudged if that’s what you were worried about.”

his frown deepens. “no, i mean do i look okay. i don’t look too…” he glances to the side before his eyes snap back to you. “…too scary right?”

you smile softly. “that’s the whole point of tonight, cho’”

he nods, as though he anticipated your answer and already swallowed it. “i know but-i look scary every other day of the year because of my scar.” He points to his nose. “i just want to make sure it’s not so…bad today.”

your hands find his, and without thinking, you murmur, “you look fine, cho’. and really, what’s so bad about being scary? means i get to keep you all to myself.”

the man’s ears turn poppy-red when he registers what you said, eyes glued to yours longingly, lips trembling.

♱ 𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒏:

“this lil’ getup makes me feel silly,” simon mutters beneath his breath, forefinger tugging at the collar of his dress shirt. his eyes catch yours in the mirror, softening for a second, before his lips pull into a frown.

“but you look cute, si.” you close the distance between you both, pressing your chest to his broad, muscled back as your hand glides up his corded arm. “why don’t you like it?”

“‘cos of that shite film.” his hands move to his tie now, wrapping it about itself. “who th’ hell is gonna give up th’ love of their life for bloody music? makes no fuckin’ sense — pisses me off just thinkin’ ‘bout it, dressin’ up like some daft tosser.”

you let out a breathy laugh as your chin finds purchase in the crook of his neck. “he had two loves, baby. one just wasn’t tangible, that’s all.”

“still bollocks.”

with a shake of your head and a soft, low huff of laughter, you wind your fingers through his low-cut hair, giving his sideburns a gentle rake of your fingernails as he attempts the tie again. his sigh, more of an aggravated grunt, comes just in time, his body slumping slightly, muscles relaxing against the softness of yours.

“but yer dress is cute, luvie, makes it bearable.”

A little comparison of Lieutenant Lyste's voice in the English and German dub (+ a little bit of Kallus too); because I find languages interesting and this made me really think about how a voice actor can influence how a character is perceived.

First of all, I've watched Rebels primarily in German so far (though I've seen a good amount of scenes in English as well), partly for nostalgia reasons (I was in my teens, probably around 14 when I first watched the series and my English wasn't that good at the time to just casually watch an entire series, plus I was watching it with my younger sister), but also because I think the voice actors especially for the main and recurring characters are genuinely doing a really good job. Heck, for some characters I might actually prefer their German voice because it is that good! Kallus might actually be a good example for this if he's already here, I think he has such a pleasant roughness in his voice. For Thrawn it's also a pretty close match, he sounds wonderful in both variants but I might prefer his German voice just by a teeny tiny bit.

Who I actually wanted to talk about is Lieutenant Lyste though. I'm mainly familiar with his German voice, and as he's a fictional crush of mine, this is also the voice of his that I've fallen in love with. When I imagine him talking - regardless in which language - the sound is that of his German voice. Personally, I feel like that voice makes him seem a little younger and more naive compared to his English voice. I've always headcanoned him to be fairly young, in his early to mid twenties, and that by the start of the series he had just completed his military training recently (his position as supply master might have been the first one where he had to bear more responsibility). I've always seen him as a guy who's motivated and just trying his best, but at the same time he's lacking experience, plus, if we're being honest, when it comes to his military career he's a pretty average guy. I think he'd learn and improve over the years, but he isn't the "best of his academy year" or "promising young talent with innovative ideas" kind of guy, and he's far from a mastermind like Thrawn. He's literally Just A Guy, and personally, that's actually something I really like about him and that makes him endearing to me.

In contrast, I think his voice in the English dub makes his age a bit more ambiguous (I still wouldn't guess him older than 30, also based on his appearance but I feel he seems less "boyish" than in the German dub). I think it also gives him a bit more of an arrogant tinge and less of the playfulness that at least I hear in his German voice. He still conveys that dutifulness, but he seems a bit more uptight as well. I wouldn't go so far to say that that's bad, and I still like his English voice as well, but I think for me it won't come close to the charm that his German voice has to me.

Towards the end I want to point out though, that the voice, while being an important aspect, is not everything that makes a character. Appearance, behaviour, body language, actions and decisions contribute to that as well. What I found interesting is that most headcanons that I read about Lyste actually still overlap closely with my own as well, even though I heavily assume that not all people who wrote them are familiar with his German voice. I would say that this is a good thing, because his core personality is still conveyed across language barriers, even though the way that different actors voice him may emphasise different aspects of his character more or less.

Not to speculate unduly on the afterlives of Men in Tolkien, as the proverb goes (this is a lie, Eri and I do nothing but speculate though at least most times we know where to stop), but the way so many people headcanon Elros as welcoming his kinsfolk after they die is both low-key curious and really sweet. And extremely Elros-y behaviour.

(I do think if he does this, also, it's not because of being the first king of Númenor and the forefather of a nation, but rather the other way round, he became a leader because he was already like that)
