observation: Chilchuck's bandages are likely ankle braces

this may be a cold/discussed take, but when I had been curious why Chilchuck wrapped his feet up like this, and had tried looking it up, I ended up face to face with a scary number of foot fetish twitters. therefore, I thought it might be nice to make this post about the conclusion I came to on my own so that others don't have to suffer the same fate that I did.

when discussing it with a friend of mine, they reasoned that they may be for protection, but the majority of the times we see his footwraps he's got his toes exposed (with the exception of the daydreams hours snippet where he's getting dressed).

examples:

so I think we can reasonably conclude that they don't serve the purpose of protecting his toes, which I would argue are probably one of the more vulnerable parts of the foot.

so I figured they were ankle braces, as they seem to consistently cover his arches and his ankles.

for reference, these are some photos of different ankle braces:

seeing that ankle braces can help to reduce strain, tension, and pressure on the ankle joint, and given the fact that Chilchuck is significantly shorter (3 foot 7 inches/110 cm) than the rest of the party, with even the second shortest member (Senshi) being a whole foot/30.5cm taller than him, it seems pretty realistic to believe that Chilchuck could have to utilize some type of brace, seeing as one stride for the rest of the party is probably at least two for him, therefore meaning he'd be dealing with some pretty significant step counts (i.e. greater strain).

additionally, braces can help with sudden shifts in weight and direction, reducing the risk of rolling or twisting an ankle. this would be helpful for checking for traps for obvious reasons -- quick movements, sudden shifts in weight, etc.

also! tangentially! we also see that throughout the series Senshi (another character of a shorter race) wears armor on his calves throughout the story. which makes sense, it being armor and all that. BUT! and possible but very very slight manga spoilers ahead:

in this panel we see that Senshi's wearing some sort of calf wraps! which function similarly to compression socks in that they boost the levels of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, and ease muscle fatigue. which is similarly in line with the point about Chilchuck's ankle braces -- they help combat possible strain or fatigue caused by additional required movement by the shorter races.

I think that this sort of thing (if purposeful) is very important to note in terms of the sheer depth of the worldbuilding in Dungeon Meshi and helps illustrate how well thought out every aspect of the manga and the characters within it are.

JJK 271: The death of Ryomen Sukuna

As a Sukuna fan, this chapter was everything I could ask for. Such a beautiful end for such an interesting antagonist. Okay coming back to the chapter, more specifically to Sukuna and Mahito conversation, we see Sukuna admitting that he had different paths he could have travelled, two to be more precise: one being with Uraume and one with a mysterious black hair figure who is dressed as a shrine maiden, so the question here is who is this mystery person...it's definitely not Yorozu since Yorozu has never dressed this modestly and I don't think this is Sukuna's mom either...so who is this???

I believe this is Kenjaku when he first approached Sukuna in the Heian era.

We previously had a panel of Sukuna's mummified body dressed as a monk by Tengen in the manga...so Sukuna might have grown up in a religious setting, and what better way to get close to him than approaching him as a miko or a shrine maiden.

But that's beside the point. The point here is Sukuna talking about the two paths he could have chosen, and he ends up choosing Kenjaku. He allows Kenjaku to make him as a curse object, allows Kenjaku to make a vessel for him to reside into, allows Kenjaku to rope him into the culling games, and even allows Kenjaku to trust him with Tengen and the merger. But the sukuna who chose this path was an angry version of him, the curse version of him if you will. He wanted to spit back the curses that were residing him, so full of anger anger anger hate hate hate. Even at his death bed his only response to kindness was "don't underestimate me, I'm a curse". So this version of Sukuna choosing Kenjaku over Uraume was no surprise.

But what changed then????....well.....HE LOST

He lost, not to Gojo or Yuta or Yuji or the serveral dozen sorcerers who jumped him, in the end he lost to MEGUMI FUSHIGURO. In ch 268 we see Sukuna trying to manipulate Megumi to give him all the control, to give up and leave it to him.

This curse version of Sukuna who doesn't know anything except cursing others back, recounting all the deaths Megumi caused to him, telling Megumi how he can't live a proper life anymore....somehow somewhere it feels like he is trying to delude himself too by saying after all the atrocities he caused in 1000 years there is no use fighting back, no use in living a proper life anymore. And this Sukuna has never lived for anyone except himself so it's easier to curse the world back, easier to give up all the control and just cause panic and doom and death.

But Megumi is not just living for himself, he lives for Tsumiki, for Yuuji, he can't doom the entire world when the world has people like Tsumiki and Yuuji in it and so he fights, he refutes the notion of proper life and says he wanna try living for someone else one more time.

All this could not have been done without Yuuji Itadori of course, Yuuji Itadori who came as a guardian angel to Megumi Fushiguro, who never gave up on Megumi once, who showed Megumi how to live one more time.

Not only that Yuuji Itadori showed Sukuna, the king of curses, the one person who kept cursing and ruining his life again and again, pity. Yuuji who was cursed by several people in his life, his grandpa, Nanami, Junpei, Mahito, Gojo, Choso, Nobara and Sukuna himself, still able to live his life without cursing others back, still able to live his life with compassion. And Sukuna reaction to it is understandable: rage. Because Yuuji is everything that his chosen path won't let him be, Yuuji is everything that that Sukuna could have been if only he hadn't chosen the path with Kenjaku...if only...

So after Sukuna who has lost everything and there is nothing more for him to lose, he decides to choose a different path, he chooses Uraume. And just like Megumi who decides to live for someone else (Yuuji) when given the second chance, Sukuna chooses to live for Uraume this time. He acknowledges his defeat with grace, does not condemn the path he chose the first time but instead he is regretful which is so raw and unfiltered coming from Sukuna, and moves on North this time with Uraume. This time Sukuna chooses Uraume instead of Uraume choosing Sukuna and serving him.

And with this the story of Ryomen Sukuna comes to an end. We never got his backstory, we never even got his real name because he never looked back behind him to acknowledge those measly things. To say in short, this is the death of the King of Curses who was just living to cause death and destruction around him and rebirth of someone entirely new.

nuts reading trigun in japanese 3 - "weirdo" and vash's pronoun switching

disclaimer: my jp reading posts are all for triangulation purposes and nothing else. scanlating mangas is tough work. @-@ i know this.

"Weirdo"

the word 'weirdo' in 2024 english carries connotations of neutral-bad or positive depending on the context of the speaker. depending on how one curates their internet space, weirdo often leans more positively with the same meaning as eccentric, but not always.

however, but in JP, "weird" is more specific and often negative. there's the well known, hentai 変態 (ie. deviant, pervert, freak, extremely negative in tone), and in this case, kimochi warui 気持ち悪い (gross, off-putting, bad vibes). eccentrics are more as 変人 henjin and carries a more neutral tone.

in this panel here papa nebreska uses 気持ち悪い in katakana キモチワルイ in reaction to vash busting his ass saving people and putting out of harms' way. vash's vibes are so off putting to this wanted man he's actually creeped out.

this is particularly interesting to me bc the english translation didn't end up portraying how utterly weird vash's mindset is fully. it wasnt until wolfwood points out how flawed vash's pacifist mindset do i get a proper frame of reference of norms in this world, but i might be having skill issues in english comprehension. ;w;

Pronoun switching

quick. 俺 Ore! 僕 Boku! 私 Watashi! they all mean "I", and there's 2 spectrum of expressions going on here thats commonly believed. 1st being Masculinity to Femininity. what's the 2nd?

the answer is... Rudeness/Assertiveness to Politeness. and gosh does vash switch a lot between Boku and Ore in the first 4 chapters of this manga lmao.

(to be clear, while i am aware of trans hc thats very popular in the fandom, im not at all diminishing or talking about gender expression specifically. im talking about what vash is presenting himself as in context.)

so to perhaps oversimplify this, in JP the idea of politeness and hierarchy is so super duper important, its very built into the language itself. and Japanese is a very high context language. if someone of a higher or equal standing uses "Ore", its totally fine. but if someone of a lower standing uses "Ore", they've committed a social faux pas.

as an obvious example, if a fresh new employee approaches his Boss with "Ore", he's potentially getting dressing down in the company. maybe in front of his coworkers. if this employee forgoes polite speech (keigo) and uses a too Assertive and Casual speech, they've Really Fucked Up and are one foot out the door.

this is also tied up in gender to some extent, hence why girls using Ore is incredibly uncommon, but guys would use Watashi in certain contexts such as talking to their Boss. (woo woo the forces of hierarchy/patriarchy... or something.)

so. vash switches his pronouns for the same effect. when he uses Ore, he's making himself sound more assertive and confident. when he uses Boku, he's often making himself sound less threatening, smaller, open, and trying to avoid conflict.

sound familiar?

bc if you translated all of that into a character design instead of relying on just jp pronouns, we'd get TriStamp Vash.

slight spoilers, but this is even true in one of the tensest moments between vash and wolfwood, where the latter provokes vash and tears into his pacifism ideology. vash sticks with boku in this scene as he says his piece.

if he ever uses watashi, it's bc he wants to be polite straight out of the gate with an air of formality. (this is japanese manners and the proper approach to talking to strangers. mainly to get a feel for each others standing without offense until context changes.)

i also wanna point out maybe something obvious here but.

real life pronoun switching in japanese is a COMMON thing. no one ever really sticks to 1 pronoun bc of Good Manners and the aforementioned hierarchical systems in place. it is only mostly in anime/manga and video games where characters overly prefer 1 due to this being a good shorthand for characterization. this being how rude or polite they are, and in some cases, Gender.

Insane that all this man wears is suits, suits and suits. Sir, do you know other clothes exist?

Why is he so obsessed with them?

Would he wear a suit during a heatwave just for the sake of his image? Would he show up in one at the beach?

Also something I noticed in the anime is that it always portays All For One wearing a similar black suit with a white dress shirt, but in the manga there are two instances where his suit isn't inked like it normally is; when he forces the stockpiling quirk onto Yoichi in the vault and when All Might defeats him for the first time. Hard to imagine he has anything in his wardrobe that doesn't make him look like a giant penguin 🐧🐧🐧🐧

hsjsdndbdj I guess it's because he wants to have an aura that commands respect and puts him as the main authority figure in the room and his nice suits can help him achieve that vibe. They must feel comfy for him though since it's what we see him wearing all the time. I think he would actually wear one at the beach, but use one of his quirks to keep him cool if it's a hot day.

I remember the two instances you're referring to where his suit is inked differently and I don't know if it's just different shading or if Hori was trying to convey that he's wearing a different style suit than his usual. The official coloured editions that released have them as black. Keep in mind that they're not done by Hori and they did make AFO's eyes red so 🤷‍♀️

HOWEVER, if you look closely at the panel in 408 where he kills Bruce you can see he's wearing a pinstripe suit. Ignore the horizontal lines, you can see some lines on the suit going upward. So he's wearing something different than his usual plain black suit here.

Also when he's with Kotaro we see that he's wearing different clothes as well

You can't see much of it but he's wearing some kind of sweater here

And here he's wearing a short sleeve (can't see it at all just his bare skin lol)

Maybe the anime will show us more of his outfits next year but we will see 😭

I wish he would wear different stuff other than suits more because I want to see him in different outfits. Why I always appreciate artists like @kstbj for putting him in pretty outfits.

At the very least he should wear different style suits so he can beat the looks like a giant penguin all the time allegations

Oshi no Ko Ch 158 Thoughts

This might be the worst chapter. I want to love my favorite manga. I really do. I guess we can't always have nice things

So Nino and Hikaru killed Ryosuke. I assume that's meant literally and not talking him into suicide. Well, okay, but it's a lot more powerful for Ryosuke to have taken his life out of guilt and despair

Akane is doing something in Miyazaki. She finally has plot relevance again. It probably won't last long

Now to the main event. What is the point of Ruby getting knifed besides shock value? Ai's death was a catalyst for the plot and a statement on toxic fandom/obsession, expectations of purity, and how (subtextually) Ichigo's and (textually) her mother's neglect led to a lack of awareness about her safety: "they didn't teach us [to use door chains] in the children's home." Most importantly, Ai realized she loved her kids

Ruby's stabbing says what, exactly? If this was well-written, I could see it being narratively satisfying to go full circle

However, we have seen Ruby experience very little of the above except for the kind of ham-fisted monologue she gives about the impermanence of idols (i.e. expectations of youth and beauty)

Which is an odd speech because it propositions Ai as a shining jewel immortalized by being brutally murdered. Huh? If that was framed as incredibly dark it might work, but it isn't

Of course this is about obsession and idolization, but that's already well-established in better ways

The parallels between Ruby and Ai seem forced and it's all mixed up with how Ruby is not Ai. Sure, there are similarities like the awful way their mothers treated them and her carrying Ai's genes and onstage presence

But Ruby stated in ch 137 that she wouldn't be like Ai

By the way, I hate this so much. It's fine to strive not to repeat your mom's mistakes, but how about some recognition of why Ai was like that

And what the hell is with ch 147's "I'll become an idol that surpasses my mom." That was never Ruby's goal. She wanted to fulfill Ai's wishes (she didn't really understand Ai's wishes, but anyway) and live the life she dreamed of as Sarina

AND WHAT HAS BEEN DONE TO MY GIRL NINO. I half-joked before that I was eating up the toxic yuri and I am, sort of, because yuri is my jam, even psycho lesbian yuri

But Nino has been reduced to a paper thin villain. In the side story 45510, Nino was a complex character

In the chapter where she met Ruby, we also saw some of that in terms of her regret for treating Ai poorly

Now she's a joke. Would the Nino of 45510 stab the daughter of her obsession? I dunno, maybe, but how about a little internal conflict over that. How about anything that doesn't reduce her to a one dimensional villain whose only thought is Ai being the best idol

I've spilled too many words already so I'll just briefly mention Kana's graduation concert being all about Ruby. The story seemed to be leaning towards some Kana centric chapters what with her confession to Aqua and her graduation, but I guess not

Oh, and what the hell is this art. Compare:

Mengo phoned this in. Look at the right panel: the flowers, the way Ai's hair is all over the place, the more natural pose, the details of her billowing dress, even the knife looks more natural. It's brilliant. The Ruby panel looks like a cheap knockoff

I don't care if this is not real, it should look impactful

And if it a fake out, that will be so, so bad

Btw Nino picking up a plain hoodie at the dollar store to imitate Ryosuke (doesn't she hate him for killing Ai? Or was she involved in that?) is hilarious

And so, Oshi no Disappointment strikes again.

On the plus side, I'm very much not well with my obsession over Ai, and her character has remained strong throughout the story. So no matter how bad things get, I'll still be a fairly happy camper at the end of the day.

Next week: This was all according to keikaku. The knife has been switched out for a rubber one. Aqua is on the sidelines filming it so that they throw Nino in jail. The fandom collectively groans.

first off my apologies for this as i feel it's an overrated thing for the ASM fandom, but i would love your take on the historical fashion shown in the manhwa, the references to real life and the anachronistic choices to boot. i hope you're not too bothered by this! also love your thoughts on asm lol

no worries at all! i'm not the greatest history buff so i'm going to have to say sorry in advance too

anyway, i just looooove the historical world building/fashion in ASM! I think it's one of the best period-inspired comics in the "historical" genre despite it being inspired by multiple different historical time periods. get ready because... i have a lot to say.

now i wouldn't call myself a huge stickler for historical accuracy but personally, i like to feel totally transported to another time when i'm reading a period piece. And a lot of "princess" manhwa often take loose inspiration from history given that they're also in the fantasy YA genre.

here's what i mean.

the isekai genre inherently caters towards young women and selling "the fantasy" that is "we want to make you feel like a princess". While historical accuracy is super cool, there's a certain amount of modernization needed to appeal to the modern audience.

Changes might include: modern hollywood curls over a powdered wig with ringlet curls, the hourglass silhoutte over the historically accurate higher waister silhouette, or stylish stilettos over buckled mules (you get it)

a huge percentage of isekai/fantasy manga/manhwa do this (even to the extreme) and most of the time, it works (some examples below).

The problem is when it isn't intentional. ie: Artists going for the "historically accurate" route and fail to use props that suit the intended setting (not going to show examples, sorry)

ASM does a wonderful job at keeping to the historically accurate theme with the 19th century inspired fashion. And the only real anachronistic choice is the "anime hair" (which I think we can all stand by).

In particular, this panel of Theo trying on his new outfit for the gala really surprised me. It's the first time I've seen a male character wearing century accurate justacorps, breeches, and heels.

Something else I love is the style preferences between different characters, in relation to their age, status, and personality. It's even mentioned vocally by the characters! ie: Rachel wishing she could wear a bustle like Shuri, Shuri opting for "younger styles" now that she has been reborn, and Nora/Jeremy dressing freely (because boys will be boys).

The Empress (and Heidi) wear larger, more extravagant silhouettes, politically symbolic jewelry, and updos fitting of their high status. You can really feel the weight and layers that they're wearing, making them clear figures of power. It's an excellent design choice while staying true to the time period.

Meanwhile, Shuri often wears lighter dresses with less volume and simple accents as opposed to the flair of the royals or the youthful embellishments (like ribbbons or bows) of younger unmarried girls like Ohara.

HOWEVER! I have a growing theory that ORKA likes to use dresses as a narrative device. I think that ORKA styles Shuri in ribbons and "younger" styles instead of her common looks during romantic scenes to remind us readers that she really is just a girl inside, not anyone's mother.

I'm super eager to see how the fashion evolves as we move through Season 3! In the latest chapters, Shuri is starting to wear narrower silhouettes, suggestive of the coming turn of the century.

Also, with the characters growing up, we will probably get different male outfits (as opposed to Jeremy's typical knights training uniform and Nora's basic look).

2. a headcanon you weren't sure about at first but have come to like!

Difficult to remember, but I think it's: Tengen and Kenjaku having a parent/child relationship. I still don't think that really applies now, but when they were younger definitely. I think Kenjaku met Tengen when they were quite young and they projected their mommy issues onto her hard. Still do to a degree. And I mean, Tengen has called Kenjaku a child before. So while this isn't the sole defining factor in their relationship, it does influence a lot how they see and treat each other.

3. a character that fandom has helped you appreciate

Gai. As I said in the previous ask, while I had always liked Lee, I mostly overlooked Gai. To be fair, I also missed a lot of his backstory and further exploration of his relationship with Kakashi in canon, since I skipped a lot of the 4th Shinobi War and didn't watch much of the Shippuden anime except to see some of my favourite scenes animated, so I missed the anime-only content. Catching up now though! He's so wonderfully fucked up and insane, I love it. And it's all thanks to fanart and fanfics showing me what I'm missing and all the wonderful angst potential.

14. the ship that always makes you smile

Toss up between TenKen and TakaKen. Just seeing a panel from the Baka Survivor fight or interaction between Kenjaku and Tengen always cheers me up. Since there is more of that between Takaba and Kenjaku and it's generally happier/funnier, they might count a bit more.

16. a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate

Not sure what counts as "tiny detail", but maybe the fact that Kenjaku has one of the most frequent outfit changes in the beginning of the manga. Basically, any time they show up before Shibuya, when they aren't in their Geto-disguise, they wear a different outfit. It often gets overlooked because the anime narrowed it down to one outfit and later on Gege didn't bother putting effort into clothes, but it shows a bit of Kenjaku's personality and taste. A lot of it looks quite similar to how I like to dress, so that's an extra bonus for me. People are missing out on their sneakers and track suit!

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

Oh geez, I feel like I have so many. How can I pick one?

A random one is that Matsu is the kind of guy to like lying on his bedroom floor. Like, if he had a rough day? Floor Time. He's contemplated so many things while staring at his ceiling. It really helps him feel grounded; when his brain is screaming at him to Do Something, it can help to just lay down and think through stuff.

13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?

@lawlietscaramels sometimes uses 🦆 for Matsuda, so that emoji now reminds me of him. I keep forgetting to ask lei why they chose a duck, but it feels weirdly fitting haha. Matsuda's just a duck kind of guy, I suppose.

Matsuda seems like he'd use emoticons as punctuation. Stuff like :D and :'( help get his point across in messages when his tone might be read incorrectly (especially when he's messaging someone who can't read sarcasm in an email, Ide). If he's feeling a little extra (and/or texting Misa) he'll use over-the-top emoticons like ☆*: .｡. o(≧▽≦)o .｡.:*☆ because he finds them fun and silly! Also, I think he'd do 😔 a lot, both irl and over the internet.

14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.

I don't know the right word for it, but you know the aesthetic of, like, a bowling alley carpet? That's how his vibes are too me. Like, he's casual and fun, and I associate him with dark tones offset by bright neons.

As far as how he'd actually dress (outside of what we see in canon, where he's wearing a suit 99% of the time), I feel like it'd be kinda close to goblincore? This is kinda based on me googling and poking around sites, so I might be off with this 😅 I do think he'd love a chunky earth-tone sweater and corduroys, though. Something cozy and casual, you know?

15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)

hnnnngh why do you have to do this to me /lh I'm gonna talk about a few of them because I can't help myself they're all so good.

I love so many for different reasons! I think my favorite right now is probably MatsuIde, because I really enjoy their dynamic and banter. Also there's so much hurt/comfort potential with these two post-Kira. I feel like, after everything's happened, they have this connection to each other because they feel like no one else can really understand what those 5 years were like. This is true for the entire Task Force (and I like AizaMatsu for similar reasons), but with MatsuIde it just hits different, you know? Maybe it's because they spend so much time together onscreen (on panel?).

LawTsuda is probably my favorite ship for the first half of the manga/anime. Emotional intelligence vs. Logical intelligence is a ship dynamic that I fall for every single time, and Matsu and L have those respective traits in spades.

I also am a Canon One-Sided MatsuLight truther, lmao. Matsuda having a crush on Light feels so right but so wrong, and it really helps put parts of the second half into context. Like, Matsuda shooting Light hits so much harder that way, idk. Imagining a world where this ship is healthy is difficult but I find their dynamic so so interesting. Matsuda you deserve so much better but I can't help myself sorry.

TL;DR- MatsuIde is probably my fav overall, LawTsuda is my fav for the first half, MatsuLight is the crunchiest.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

My answer to both questions has to do with writing his impulsivity. His priorities differ a lot from other characters, and that changes what details he pays attention to and how he reacts to information. It also means that he's going to act irrationally in the name of Doing Something. Which is fun to play with! In chapters 9 and 10 of Weekend At Ryuzaki's, for example, I was trying to give off the idea that Matsuda is being quickly backed into a corner, which causes him to make a lot more mistakes and hasty decisions.

But on the other hand, writing an unpredictable character acting unpredictably while also making it satisfying and interesting to read is really hard. Like, I don't want him to seem like he's randomly bullshitting his way to answers that move the plot along. He has reasons for doing things in the heat of the moment, even if his reasons aren't exactly logical.

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?

I like to read just about anything with the "Matsuda Touta is Not an Idiot" tag, lol. Because he's not, really. Sure, he acts without thinking sometimes, and his thought process is very different from L's and Light's, but he's not an idiot. I like fics where he solves or helps solve the Kira murders, but his line of logic is different than the one used by L/Near in canon.

It's really hard to think of things in fic I don't like, to be honest! I guess one would be the Matsuda/Sayu pairing. I just find it kinda icky given that one scene in canon with them together. If they are both older, and it's a small part of an otherwise compelling fic, I can usually forgive it, though.

The surprising revelation that the sleeping Zelda from Zelda 2 is in fact not the Zelda from Zelda 1 who got hit with a sleeping spell between the games, but actually a totally different character, has now made all my Zelda compilations incomplete. Going forward I want to treat them as separate characters, but that does pose the problem, drawing the same design twice is boring so how am I supposed to draw them? Even their sprites are similar.

I could try to work with any of the designs from the manga and novel adaptations (from historyofhyrule.com), like I noticed in a previous post the artists back then went wild and just drew whatever so the designs are certainly different. However I don't have any reason to pick any of them over the others and they are so obscure that I might as well design an OC.

Granted I don't differentiate between the toon Links and Zeldas from different games either, but I think this case is different since these Zeldas exist with the same Link and in some manga adaptations are even in the same panel together.

I think I'll keep the OG Zelda as she is, and do a similar design but with a red dress and darker hair based on the sprite for the Zelda 2 one, at least she only has one palette in the game itself.

Chapter 5 Trivia

Yuzuriha is back!

A tale in two parts. Remember last chapter when Senku commented lion meat reeks of ammonia? Well shark meat definitely does. To prepare it, it's normally marinated in lemon juice, milk, vinegar or even seawater to get rid of the stench.  

Tiny details: Unlike Taiju and Senku's outfits, Yuzuriha's seems to have a visible seam/edge. Why? Folding and sewing fabric strengthens it from wear and tear, preventing the eyelet holes ripping through to the edge of dress.

Did one of the boys join Yuzuriha's crafting club?

To put on Yuzuriha's shoes for her, Taiju tries propping her up against the tree. He then drops her in shock. It's a good thing the statues are quite sturdy otherwise they'd have other problems…

Why Taiju didn't lay her on the grass instead is anyone's guess.

Pure nitric acid is actually colorless, but old nitric acid turns yellow due to chemical decomposition. Light and heat speed up the process, which is why it's normally stored in brown glass bottles (and probably why later in the manga it's still in clay bottles instead of glass).

This family is both standing upright and smiling. Did they not see the beam coming? If they were indoors, the building would have fallen onto them and likely knocked them over.

Either way, it looks like a rare find for Tsukasa!

In this image alone, there seems to be 30 severed statue heads, bringing Tsukasa's "head count" to 31.

The longer a person is petrified, the longer it takes for the revival fluid to begin the depetrification process. With the amount of conversation happening here compared to Tsukasa's revival, I wonder if there's another factor that can speed up depetrification.

In Yuzuriha's case, the cracking also didn't begin at the head nor where the RF was poured, and didn't leave scars at the initial cracking points. I wonder why the sudden outlier; was she not thinking as much as the others and thus didn't have the energy stored in the brain?

Senku's hypothesis is that petrification uses the metals that exist within the body to create a hard stone layer. The phase change comment is about all the liquids etc present in the body turning to stone (like freezing water to ice). The diagram? Could be proteins and graphite.

(If anyone has any other ideas what those might be please either DM me or comment somehow, I can't think of any other spiraling structures in the body since it's obviously not DNA)

Yuzuriha has droplets on her body fresh after revival. Is it sweat? RF? They weren't present on her statue moments ago. Also, the swirl on her neck seems to still have the depetrification effect happening despite the scar already being there in the previous panel.

Close inspection also seems to show that the scars have depth. Does this mean segments can be missing from the body and leave scars instead? Or is it something that happens solely during depetrification?
