i absolutely hate how Cherri Bomb was written in the new episode
i was really excited to see her in the episode but the way she peer pressured angel just made me really dislike her character
she says that angel has been “texting her his depressing shit all day,” so she knows what he’s going through, and when he says he’s too tired for a night out she doesn’t listen
when husk steps in when cherri offers angel drugs, cherri responds by calling him a “Buzzkill” and making fun of him being an alcoholic. husk was simply looking out for angel and if cherri truly cared about angels well-being she would understand that.
even after cherri puts husk down, angel still shows that he is uncertain about getting high with her. he once again tells her he’s exhausted from work to which she responds without empathy and just trying to keep getting him to get high until he finally agrees.
when angel is looking after niffty, cherri says “you’re supposed to be relaxing, not playing nanny!” and angel says “i just don’t want her to end up in the gutter like i used to!” and cherri belittles what he says by saying “whatever nerd.”
i was so excited to see cherri in this episode but she turned out to be a terrible friend to angel
edit: i just wanna say i think the way angel looked after niffty was adorable and i loved angel and husk being nifftys dads
edit: so my opinion on this had kind of changed. i do still think there should’ve been scenes where we saw her empathy more but now having seen later episodes i can say i am more fond of her character. she definitely needs some development (but so does everyone else), and i can’t say she’s my favourite, but my opinion has partially changed.
i think i was more so disappointed in the lack of emotion she showed. she’s addicted just like angel and is not as far in recovery as he is. and YES i have seen the addict music video and that is the main reason i am disappointed, because we see a lot more insight to her character in there.
i hope we get more emotional and/or empathetic scenes with cherri in the future and i really hope than if/when she joins the hotel her development will be healthy for both her and angel

For the "I wish you would write!" and while you've already written a time loop invincible fic, which I still love so much (˘˘ ♡), I am still a sucker for time loop / time travel, so, I wish you would write another time travel/loop fic, however you wanted to go about it.
Or, if you haven't done a invincible crossover already, what would you choose and how would you go about it? I know this is more vague than the prompt asks for, but I'm just so curious, haha! (o^ ^o)
Haha that you should mention Invincible and time travel stuff, because I've actually thought about doing a few others. One where it's Debbie who is sent back into her body after everything and it basically turns into a (sadly) tamer version of Gone Girl while she tries to expose Nolan, another one where Mark ends up back when his parents first meet and goes through the whole 'but wouldn't the world be better if I didn't exist/can I be complicit in putting my mother through that/maybe if I don't exist dad wouldn't have left and then the world would have been really fucked and I have to make sure things work out or my planet is screwed and my happiness is worth my planet isn't it?' stuff lol I've also thought about doing Nolan's POV for my existing time loop fic, just so I could play around with exploring all the different ways he might react to watching his wife die without having to actually fridge Debbie. Nolan getting sent back is also such a neat idea to me, because depending on where in the timeline you send him from he could have some very fascinating reactions to getting his pre-reveal life back on Earth.
Maybe it's just because of the genre of it (and the fact I'm not actually super into comics or superhero stuff, the low hanging fruit of Inv crossovers lol) but there's very few things I think about actively crossing over with it? And I am a massive fan of fic crossovers tbh, so maybe it'll change and I'll think of something in the future. I mentioned it in another post recently, but I was thinking about doing a Lois and Clark crossover, because I do think Nolan and Clark interacting would be fun- not to mention Debbie and Lois- but the only other real crossover I've thought about was Doctor Who.
Ten and Donna were going to accidentally pick up/kidnap Debbie while she was drunk early post-Nolan reveal and the Doctor was going to be like, well, shit, need to get her back to Earth, she's important- and Donna was just like ?? We aren't leaving a drunk woman alone to choke on her vomit in a gutter are you insane?? And Doc would follow up with 'her emotional suffering is really important for this guy's character development later' and Donna would beat him with a shoe. Debbie would spend all of 5 seconds alone with the Doctor and be like 'ah, you're a compulsive lying alien conqueror too. neat' and he'd stfu and Donna would be like 'nice cold read, but that IS my friend and his self-esteem is actual trash so-' but really it would just give Debbie some breathing space and time to process stuff without having to worry about Mark et al and despite the life threatening nature of her adventures on the TARDIS she would have a better time than the life threatening shit that happens to her on Earth.
Rather than proper crossovers I lean much more 'full AU version' for Invincible ideas. Like, a BtVS one where Debbie is a slayer but due to stuff doesn't get noticed until she's in her 20s and the Council (Cecil) are definitely not people she wants to listen to and Nolan is basically Spike (asshole vampire who has to put the effort in to gain a soul)
#hell always down to talk about writing stuff just send an ask lol#the-stove-is-divorced#ask meme#writing#invincible fanfic

i'm gonna need some "i've got my hand on my heart (but my heart's in the gutter)"
this one is just a detailed outline atm so i don't have any writing to share. however it's johnbobby and its one of those character studies where not much really happens lol - bobby's POV, john's lying low after some trouble or other with the law so he takes sam and dean to hide out at bobby's for a while until it all blows over. bobby gets to play surrogate dad to sam and dean (they're really little like 3 and 7) and tries to give them a sense of normalcy while their deadbeat alcoholic dad sits around depressed because this isn't the life he wanted dammit so of course Wasteman John's solution to that is to sulk and not be there for his boys lol. and there's a lot of john and bobby bickering about how the kids should be parented - and a lot of sad tired john being vulnerable around bobby ' and to bobby john's so damn impossible and fascinating and he has big pretty wet sad eyes 🥺 and when they pass out on the couch together one night how can bobby, in all of his own loneliness and dysfunction, resist when he wakes up to john pressed into him and jerking off and and pleading for it? 🥺🥺 i love lonely old men falling into grim and weird sex dynamics so that's a lot of what this is lmao. coupled with bobby observing the developing family dynamics - quiet serious dean doing everything he's told and loud demanding sammy as the centre of everyone's universe - so i guess it's kind of an outsider pov thing too? anyway i'm kind of in love with the outline and the concept and i'd love to write sam and dean as little kids bc i've never really done that before and in my head they're so fucking cute 🥺 hope i can bring it to life one day, there's a criminal lack of bobbyjohn fics around <3

Soorrryyy in advance for the below word salad!!
Dumping all the worm induced blueberry thoughts plagueing me today here, so I may be rid of them.... Also I have very little knowledge of the lore I'm mostly going on what I see here.... sooo yeah it's me just just twisting whatever loose grasp I have on the characters😅
The Cato content is really getting to me (your art is not helping fighting it off!!💜). I put on a little spin on it though (real life experience kind of spoiled it for me), for myself, of the reader bullying him into character development instead...😅 (I think an inquisitor reader would be much harder to bully + would have some weight to throw around herself or a custodes love interest). Also I'm a whore for the idea of men getting their shit together to earn the love of their target of affection.
On the other hand that addition of Titus being present when Cato barges in on the reader in their room sent my mind to the gutter. Like, Titus and the reader being intimate during this Cato just pulling rank and ordering them about how to proceed (just now, my writing this I'm facing the fact, that my skills are seriously lacking to describe it in more detail....)
Also, I'm reading Dark Imperium, so there are some wishful thinking of Thiel living a happy life with a doting wifey, same for Andros (I can't believe only a couple of pages can make me go 'rip king, you were soo right and deserved better'). Also just, a cute medic reader taking care of Guilliman's wounds (putting some healing/pain soothing oinment on his neck scar, etc)... Also, also, Dad Guilliman having a daughter first than a son from reader and him freaking out as the two proceed developmentally at completely different speed (the daughter hitting everything super quick while the son doesn't and just him dealing with the dissonance of it)....
Well, now I have cleansed myself for today.... (Pls don't ask how my brain can go in soooo many directions within a day....)
I wish you a nice weekend!💜
None of us can form our thoughts coherently, don't worry. if anyone has the illusion that I can it's only because I can reread my responses to everything 36 times before posting.
also, yes. The idea of catching Titus/diplomat!Reader in some way or another (i always imagined him overhearing them talking privately somewhere and it's VERY obviously intimate conversation) and he just loses it. Either barging in, or just kind of losing hope that he's too late and he got beat by Titus so why not crank up the douchiness even more then?
Guilliman implies that he still feels the pain from the scar in DI so yeah helping him would be nice, even if it doesn't actually help, I'm sure he'd enjoy the feeling of someone caring. <3

Why do a lot of Nordic fic writers just despise Iceland? I've noticed his character is never relevant to the story. Why is he always a side character? He almost never gets any character development. Not only does it suck, it also makes the fic more awkward. Like, some major event happens to the Nordics and it's almost like he was gone when it happened.
Everyone is going through some form of complex emotions to try to process the events of the fic and Iceland's just... On the side like it's a normal Tuesday. It's really off putting.
He is also almost always one dimensional. People, if your character's personality can be summed up in two words, you did a bad job developing them.
Repeat after me, Iceland. Is. Not. Just. 'edgy teen'.
It's a little infuriating because they come up with these intricate details about the others, so I know they don't just suck at making characters.
I'm not necessarily saying 'we need more Iceland fics' even though I would love to see more of those. Most Iceland fics I've read have been very disappointing. Guys, just because he's a teenager doesn't mean you have to make a high school fic.
Even if you don't want to make him a main character, he makes for a fantastic exposition character.
An exposition character is a character who technically doesn't play a huge role in the story, but they have little mini arcs throughout the story that help support the A story, either directly or indirectly. They're usually the first character we see which is why I call them an exposition character. Their actions usually lead us to meeting the protagonists. Sometimes they run into the protagonists, sometimes not.
If you really want to isolate Iceland from the rest, you can at least give him his own individual arc. I personally think separating Iceland from the rest is a bit of a jerk move, but if you're going to do it anyway, you shouldn't abandon his character entirely.
Another huge issue I have with a lot of these fics is Sealand.
Listen, I absolutely adore Sealand. He's a really sweet character and I think the idea of him being more or less adopted by the Nordics is nothing short of adorable.
But, when we start shoving Iceland to the side in favour of Sealand, that's when I start having some problems.
'but we need a child character so they can learn from the older ones' guys, I don't know why you refuse to believe this, but Iceland is an actual child. He is a child.
'he's a teen, he's not that young' what are you on about?! Literal child. He's a kid.
Now, even though it's miles better than the Danish slaughterhouse, Gutters is still objectively terrible story wise.
I love Denmark and Sealand's dynamic and all, but come on!
Before anyone comes at me, listen, Sealand is a great character and all, but making him a main character in a Nordic fic because you want a child character meanwhile you have a perfectly good Nordic character who is a child at your disposal, you just don't want to use him because he's 'too old'. Listen, I'm not an expert on children by any means, but I've interacted with children of both of those ages and let me tell you, both of those ages would act the exact same way in an apocalyptic situation. Iceland and Denmark also have actual history, that could have made for a number of interesting plot lines.
But this isn't even my biggest issue with the fic. My hugest issue comes by the end.
Everyone is shown processing Denmark's death in their own ways. Each of the Nordics have their moment where they're shown grieving... EXCEPT FOR ICELAND!
You know what he's doing? Fuck all! That's what! How do you even butcher a character so much? Might I remind you that Iceland worries about Denmark the most out of the others canonically!? You're telling me he's just standing off to the side silently shedding a couple tears? Bro...
I just hate it when Iceland's character is pushed aside like this.
Most people finished Gutters crying, I finished it fucking pissed.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

following up on this post i made the other day
Ninjago Dragons Rising Season 2a spoilers below
Arin is going through the ringer in season two. Which, I’m not complaining about—I love angst and seeing characters go through pain, because that’s how they grow to become stronger. You can’t make an omlette without breaking a few eggs, and whatnot.
But Arin is a passenger on the struggle bus and it gets a bit painful to watch, at some points.
It’s clear that, by the end of season one, he feels like he’s fallen behind Sora and Wyldfyre’s training; after all, he’s still the only one without an elemental power, and he’s only been able to successfully do his object Spinjitzu a few times, and all of those times were when someone he cared about was in danger. So when Season 2A starts up, and Arin struggles multiple times with just defeating the Bad Guys by himself, it’s obvious that the writers of Ninjago Dragons Rising are setting up something for him.
I’d talked about it in my previous analysis, but I do enjoy how Arin and Sora are pretty interesting as character foils. People have talked about how the dragon imagery with Sora conflicts with the growing Oni imagery given to Arin and how dragons and oni don’t mix; to be honest, I’ve never seen the last seasons of Ninjago, so I’m only picking up that lore from other posts, but I think that it’s interesting how Arin and Sora are developing together in opposite directions.
Sora is, obviously; getting stronger. She’s reached her True Potential, after all. While she doesn’t learn Spinjitzu in Season 2A, it’s obvious that she’s going to have it down by the second half of the season, maybe whipping it out in the finale just like her TP in the S1 finale. She’s also become a bit stronger, and a bit more optimistic. She’s developed Elemental Mech for the other Ninja, and her control over her tech powers have only grown since we’ve last seen these characters.
Arin, on the other hand, is almost getting weaker? Or, perhaps, he’s stagnating in his growth. He hasn’t been able to perform object Spinjitzu since the S1 finale, and is constantly getting beat up by the other bad guys. He gets beat by Cinder. He gets beat by Lord Ras. He’s only able to somewhat defeat what’s-her-name because Riyu is on his side and she’s kinda weaksauce anyway. (I know her name is Jordana; this is meant to be a joke.) He can’t protect Bonzole from being taken by Lord Ras and used.
He is going through the gutter this season, my poor blorbo.
I think Sora “helping” Arin in the final fight by using her elemental power to mimic his object Spinjitzu was nice of her; but it’s going to lead to a fight, I’m sure. The writers seem to be setting Arin up for what looks like some sort of corruption arc.
You know the story. A character is left behind by their “friends”, and is adopted into the bad guy troupe. They commit a few crimes, maybe go a bit too deep into the rabbit hole, but they come to their senses and defect back to the good side, now a bit spicier with a bit more trauma. It’s a fine and fun story to write. It puts characters into uncomfortable positions. The good guys have to reckon with the fact they left one of their own behind, and their own defected to the bad side. The bad guys have to deal with turning this goody-two-shoes into an Actual Villain, which has varying levels of success.
But I don’t think they should do this with Arin.
Would Arin make a terrifying bad guy? He’s a ninja super-fan; he knows all of their weaknesses. He would be absolutely terrifying as a bad guy.
But, I’ll be honest: I don’t think he has it in him.
Now, the writers could do something big to him, and he could defect and join the bad guys, but I don’t think that could be as fun as the other possible arc Arin could go through, that I think would be ten times more interesting;
I think Arin should quit being a ninja.
Not forever. But temporarily.
One of the biggest things in the show is the phrase “ninja never quit”—the ninja are trained to be determined to see things through to the end. To keep fighting for the good of Ninjago, and the newly merged realms. They have hundreds of thousands of people relying on them, they can’t quit in the face of evil.
They say it multiple times. It’s their motto, their theme; they don’t quit, no matter how hard it gets. When Kai gets locked in the cursed hell in-between space (forgot the name of it), he’s not going to quit until he gets back home. When the ninja train to learn the Rising Dragon technique, they don’t quit training, trying to figure it out, even as they run out of time.
But Arin? Well, Arin’s been trying to follow the motto, but it looks like the world has decided to beat the crap out of him constantly no matter what. He keeps getting beat up. He keeps losing to the bad guys the other ninja could beat with little issue.
I think Lord Ras says it the best;
“I stopped you as easily now as the first time we met. I was weak like you, once...”
Arin’s not progressing as a ninja; in fact, he might be degressing, a bit. He gets knocked down a fang when training with the dragons because his Spinjitzu is too raw and uncontrolled. He can’t figure out his object Spinjitzu. He’s going through the motions of being a ninja, but getting beat up at every turn, and everyone has these great Elemental powers, and Arin’s just… Well, he’s just Arin.
Honestly, going through all of that, I’d be thinking about quitting, too. It would just be easier to hang up the towel and call it a day. It’d be a lot less painful. He wouldn’t have to worry about the fate of the world, he could just return to The Crossroads, or maybe he could quit and focus on trying to find his parents.
But I think he should quit. Full-stop. For a few episodes.
It’d be great to explore what would happen to Arin for a few episodes, maybe even though he quits, he can’t stop trying to help people and save them from danger. How even though he doesn’t have an elemental power, he can still do great things. Learn how to be great himself.
It’d also be great to see how the other characters react to Arin’s decision to quit. Stories are built upon the interaction and conflict between characters, which drive character growth and plot. Sora would try to drag him back, obviously; either Arin or one of the older ninja would make it clear that it would be wrong to drag him back to a world he doesn’t want a part in. They’d all be shocked, of course. Maybe hurt, betrayed—ninja never quit, right?
But what if a ninja did quit?
Arin is the most interesting character in the Dragons Rising series. He’s a relatable individual for many old Ninjago fans, and represents that audience, a bit. He’s living the dream of becoming a ninja that many of us could never be. But he also keeps getting beat up by the bad guys, he can’t control his Spinjitzu, or do his special thing, and he doesn’t have an elemental power (yet; I see what you’re doing with the Source Dragon of Motion, writers). He’s the odd one out, the black sheep of the ninja.
If the story keeps beating him down, well, maybe he just needs to quit, in order to find himself again, and build himself back up, either on his own, or with the help of his friends.
Ninja never quit, of course. He’ll find his way back to Team Ninja eventually. But maybe… Maybe ninja need break?
(No, that doesn’t work as well.
Eh, whatever.)
Ninja never quit permanently.
He’s one of the main characters. He’ll get dragged back into the plot whether he likes it or not.

Home is Where you are
(This is a short little fic that I had posted on ao3 but I thought I'd share it here as well <3)
----------
Sunday morning. In the midst of May, the beginning of summer where the days slowly get longer and the sun bores down from a clear blue sky. This particular Sunday, however, was different. Flat gray clouds covered the sky, rain pattered on windows and flooded rain gutters. The howling wind shook the trees and branches beat to an invisible melody against the walls of houses. It was the perfect setting to be inside a warm home, blanketed under layers of warm blankets, and to do nothing but enjoy the sound of the rain.
Inside of a stylish condo in the city, on the tenth floor with a generous view of the city lights at night, Syren lay trapped beneath the warm, solid arm of a lover. Slowly, consciousness returned to her, as she became aware of her surroundings. She was in their shared bedroom, Toaster had hogged most of the fuzzy blankets, leaving Syren with only the main duvet coiled around her legs. Their floor was littered in old clothes they’d discarded from the night before.. And the night before that, not that either were slobs but sometimes after a long day of work the two were too exhausted to care. Normally, on Sunday’s the two decided to work together to clean the entire house. It was a little routine they’d developed together after Syren agreed to move in with them. Blinking away the sleep, Syren scanned the rest of the room. The interior design was a perfect blend of both of their personalities, on the shelf were little 3D printed figurines of Toaster’s characters, as well as a few of her own that he made for her. An assortment of crystals lined the shelf, and on the dresser Syren stored her ever growing candle collection right beside the two stuffed animals that she bought for the two of them, each with their own respective stuffed laptops and headphones. The closet was filled with clothes, mixed and tossed together. It wasn’t so unusual that Syren would pick out one of Toaster’s shirts to wear, and on occasion Syren spotted them sporting one of her long skirts. Of course, everything that fit on Toaster practically drowned Syren and everything that was long for her was considered short - but somehow the two of them made it work.
The thought brought a smile to Syren’s lips as she twisted in her position to glance at Toaster who was nestled in the left side of her shoulder. Her arm laid beneath their neck, so it wasn’t difficult for her to reach up and thread her fingers through his hair. The practiced motion was almost a natural instinct by now. Whenever the two sat together her hand would find its way to their scalp, and he would practically melt into her arms. She never thought that he’d take such a liking to it, when they first met, she mentioned briefly that she was originally drawn to his hair and wanted to braid it. She also mentioned how she leaned toward physical touch, and despite turning bright red whenever she reached out for him, he also pouted whenever she didn’t. Syren couldn’t stop the flutter in her chest from the image. When they would sit next to each other on the couch, watching a movie or doing something relaxing, he would always do little subtle movements that indicated he wanted her to play with their hair, but he would never ask for it. It wasn’t really subtle at all, but sometimes she pretended not to notice, just so she could see the adorable pout on his face when he realized she was toying with them. She always caved though. They were almost spoiled with it, with how often he wanted her to braid his hair. She loved it though. She would spoil him for the rest of her life, if he wanted.
A soft whine drew her attention back to reality, and through her prereferral vision, Syren saw Toaster crack open his eyes, and lean into her touch. Immediately, there was a giddy smile on her lips at seeing how pretty they looked first thing in the morning. She still couldn’t wrap her head around how lucky she was to be laying beside them, and how they were seeing each other, instead of just through a computer screen.
“Morning,” Syren said quietly, running her nails down the middle part of his scalp.
A soft groan was her response, as Toaster pushed his face deeper into her neck- the ticklish sensation making her giggle.
Suddenly curious, Syren leaned up from where she was laying to scan for her phone. She spotted it amidst the mess of blankets and reached for it. She must have forgotten to plug it in last night. The bright screen lit her face and she physically recoiled from the burn in her eyes. Turning down the brightness, Syren looked at the time. “It’s already noon,” she groaned, tossing the phone aside and laying back down, her hand still tangled in Toaster’s hair.
“Ugh, already?” Toaster asked, and Syren had to keep the flip in her stomach contained at their morning voice.
“Mhm,” She replied, pulling him closer to her chest, and he responded in kind, wrapping both arms around her and intertwining her legs.
“Did you sleep okay?” He asked, “Sorry I got to bed late last night, the raid went on pretty long.”
Syren chuckled, to this day she still hadn’t managed to get too excited about fourteen, it wasn’t her type of game style but for him she would try . Plus, he was adorable whenever he got excited about it. Running her fingers down the backside of his neck she hummed. “It’s okay. I was out like a light so I didn’t even notice.”
A quiet sigh escaped them as she ran her fingers in small circles behind his ear, and it took all of her willpower not to squeal at how adorable he was. So easy to fluster, his blush was the prettiest thing about them… Besides from his voice.
Looking out the window which was fogged from the rainstorm, she sighed. Syren loved the rain more than anything, and was excited that the sun had finally taken a break and she could enjoy the dark and cold. “Ugh,” she suddenly remembered. “Don’t we have to be somewhere today?”
Toaster groaned and held onto her a little tighter, without realizing she leaned down and kissed the top of his head- relishing the way their breath hitched. “M-My business partner invited us out.” He stammered, and Syren felt a slow grin overtake her face but decided not to tease him any further.
“How much do we like this partner?” She asked lightheartedly, only half joking. Toaster groaned again. “We should go.” “We should.” Syren agreed.
A slight pause. The only sound that could be heard was the patter of the rain against the window, and the muffled sound of cars on the street.
Slowly, Toaster raised their head and Syren looked into their clear blue eyes decorated by long, pretty lashes. They stared at each other, having a conversation only they could understand through their eyes. Syren could read his words loud and clear.
Let’s stay home .
Relief flooded through her entire body, leaning forward she planted a soft kiss on the bridge of his nose, then on his mouth. When she pulled away, his face was bright red, but his eyes were soft and a small, a lovestruck smile grew as he watched her lovingly. Biting her bottom lip, Syren marveled at how well they understood each other, and how deeply she loved them.
“How does a home cooked brunch sound?” She asked quietly, and he laughed softly, the sound that rivaled the beauty of the sun, the stars, and every astral body combined. “Perfect.” He said, and Syren leaned in to kiss him again. He kissed back, his hands slowly rising to lay on her arms. It was short, and soft, but loving. She could feel the flutter of his lashes against her cheek, it was moments like these that she wanted to engrain in her memory.
“I guess we should get up then,” she said, their faces still close together, lips barely touching and his warm breath on her mouth. She didn’t even care that they had just woken up. “Mhm,” he hummed quietly, leaning in for another kiss. Laughing softly, Syren wrapped her fingers around the back of his neck, and kissed back.
Breakfast could wait just a little longer.

I've frequented this blog enough that I think I should brand myself with a signature. Anyway, yes! I agree. Based on the severity of crimes, Knife is actually way worse than Taco. Knife's actions in season 1 were glossed over as jokes, but if you take on a more serious perspective on comparing the two, all Taco did was play the long con much better than Balloon. It's only in season 2 where Taco gets much serious with her espionage to take the money prize and Knife mellows out. Taco's kidnapping is nothing compared to Knife's ol' hobby of killing. This is under a more *literal* reading of their actions anyway, one without taking into account that AE's writing was naturally much more immature in season 1. If Knife's killings are going to be shown as a joke, then it will be. If Taco's game of lying throughout season 1 until the last episode is taken more grieviously, then I guess it is what it is. I'd love to argue there's some... misogynistic undertones, but come on, the writers were kids then. You can't really expect them to have good writing. It's nice that Knife's asshole tendencies were slightly addressed in season 2 by developing his character less into a bully and more of a serious no-nonsense guy, but I'd love it even more if Taco got a redemption arc. Public opinion has out her through the gutter without appreciating her character.

lizzie and tommy (:
I’ve always been a fan of Lizzie. I found her character so interesting, solely because I found her to be so tough, but also have so much love and femininity to her. However, I also liked Grace– she was strong and cunning and dang she fell for a gangster! However, I felt her character was underbaked (because she literally died. Great for Tommy’s character development– bad for Grace). What prompted me to write this all out was me running out of Lizzie and Tommy fics to read and turning to Tommy and Grace fics. The first (and frankly only one I read), was Thomas Shelby laughs in his sleep, or at least he used to. by @i-just-look-at-pictures on AO3, and it really fleshed out Grace’s character for me, it filled in the holes in their relationship that the show didn’t cover. It made me realize how stark (haha), the differences between both relationships are. Grace gave us the forbidden love, marriage trope, love at first sight type deal whereas Lizzie gives us the redemption arc (literally RUBY.) and a slow burn.
In my first watch-through of Peaky Blinders I loved Tommy and Grace’s dynamic– and I still do; however, after watching it back it was not the most healthy thing on the planet. But really what relationship with a man like Tommy can be? For me Tommy’s love for Grace was an obsession– she was a perfect posh girl and man, how could a girl like her fall in love with a guy like him?! But she did, because Tommy really liked her so he was soft Tommy with her. (That is why she fell in love with him, not like May who liked him for the thrill of a gangster– no shame on May, though. She is a strong woman who knows who she is. And I would totally fall for a hot gangster, too.) Grace challenged Tommy in ways women hadn’t before (excluding Polly because she’s more like a mother figure to him); however, she accepted him for the dirty gangster he was and didn’t try to fix him (because she was just as dirty as he was. Also, a lot of people say that Grace was Tommy in girl form– but helloooo ADA?!). For me, this is neither good nor bad, well maybe a little bad. Like I said before, Grace challenged him, but not in the ways that I feel like could’ve benefitted Tommy as a person, but then again Tommy wouldn’t have dared to soil his perfect Grace with the dirty dealings of the illegal business. So it was a fault all around, really, in my opinion. Grace could’ve thrived in the illegal business dealings (she’s a smart girl!), but it was the illegal business that was her demise. (I don’t believe for a second Lizzie had any intention of starting a war, and she didn’t start it. John did. Lizzie just wanted a normal life. But did she really like Angel, orrr was he a distraction from Tommy? We all know the truth.) Tommy ruined Grace, but look at how her death ruined him. Her apparition (originating from the stupid drugs) is the personification of his guilt. Grace doesn’t call him to the afterlife– his guilt for his gang business does!
Lizzie however, was different. She was involved in the dirty business from the beginning. She knew who Tommy was pre-war, and she knows who he is now. And look at how she hoisted herself up out of the gutter. She took those typing classes to stop whoring. She tried to get out of it with John (but we all know how that went– and I personally don’t think that was Tommy keeping Lzzie for himself, that was Tommy protecting John). She took the initiative to clean up her life and Tommy just aided her in the fact by giving her a job (truthfully, all he has ever helped her with was money). Regardless of all that, I truly believe (and it’s evident–blatantly obvious even) that she was in love with Tommy from the beginning. Two of my favorite Tommy and Lzzie scenes are as follows: the one where she asks him to pretend like they’re ordinary people (kills me every time. Hurts my soul. My poor baby Lizzie girl.) and the typewriter scene where he offers her the job (the manner in which he went about it was stunning. I would’ve died.)
As the story goes, Tommy goes back to Lizzie relatively quickly after Grace dies (excluding the Tatiana madness). I’ve seen posts that blame Lizzie for this, that she jumped on Tommy after Grace died because she was jealous. I have no doubt in my mind she was jealous– but she has enough decorum to withhold that and act like a lady. Lizzie grounds Tommy. Yes, they were toxic (My property? Not cool. Infidelity? Not healthy! Telling her to abort the baby? Nooo thanks– and she was so excited! “A piece of me and you” CRYING); however, I feel like they understood each other on another level. They’ve known each other for what, 15+ years? And they’ve been married for what, 8 of those years? Gosh, they know each other inside and out. Their relationship, obviously, is very sexually based. Lizzie was a whore for pity’s sake, and Tommy himself is probably the biggest whore on the show (literally seducing poor Jessie Eden for personal gain?!). I’m sure Lizzie was able to read Tommy like an open book and vice versa! Just look at how they push each other's buttons! Him telling her he still pays her for it, and her giving him the bullets in the mud. Neither was a good situation– a) that’s a horrific way to push someone when you know that bothers them b) that is not how you deal with a suicidal person. But look at all that harm and trauma we see they cause each other because of years of hurt from each other and others. This is where we see Lizzie break for the first time, in my opinion. For her family comes first, even over her one-sided love, and Tommy was willing to break that family.
Lizzie’s two best qualities (but perhaps it was also these that lead to her demise) were her unwavering loyalty and her ability to care. The former is probably why I relate to her so much. Even after Tommy screwed up her first chance at a normal life with John, left her to get raped at Epsom, told her she was property, let Diana publicly humiliate her, mocked her attempts at divorce, told her to abort their child, (I’m sure there’s more) she stayed. Because she freaking loved him and cared for him. He trusted her as a secretary to have a foot in both businesses, but he never trusted her like he trusted Grace (which is completely ironic to me because Grace betrayed all of them. But look at how much he is like Lizzie in this way. Forgiving personal transgressions because you love them sooooo much.), because he trusted Grace with his head– not the business. Lizzie was the opposite. Her loyalty to him was intertwined with her ability to care. Like the man himself said, “It was you who stopped my heart from breaking”. I’m not the best writer, but aniray conveys this perfectly in their fic A Bit of Soft (In a Broken Place). Lizzie is always there for him and cares for him. She fulfills his needs. Her ability to care was shown really, though, with the children. Charlie calls her mum (which I know a lot of people don’t like– but she took the child of the woman who she probably was jealous of and genuinely loved him as her own) and Charlie’s bond with Ruby is so adorable. Lizzie was meant to be a mom! And Tommy gave her that. And like I said earlier when Tommy was willing to give up his fatherly duties to be reunited with Grace, Lizzie reminded him of his duties at home (albeit in a not-so-nice way). Because that’s what really important to her. The well-being of those children. And that’s what finally drove her to leave, was Tommy’s craziness about Ruby’s illness and his lack of presence at her death. There is no doubt in my mind Tommy loved Ruby, and he really went to the ends of the earth to save her. But when he wasn’t there to hold her hand (and Lizzie’s hand) as she died, that’s what did it. Not the infidelity, not the sham of a marriage, not the drugs (she knew what she signed up for. A marriage for looks. She was ok with being the one who cared more.), but the lack of care (in the way she thought, and really it was the way that he needed to be, mattered). This is also why she couldn’t have been the black cat. A) She wanted to get as far away from her whoring days so she isn’t talking to Mosely B) she loves Tommy too much (to her own disgust) to betray him like that C) it’d hurt her family D) She was for sure at that violin recital! She wouldn’t’ve missed it for the world!
But really he did love her, Lizzie– definitely like he loved his family (she was family), and I think he definitely had the potential to be in love with her. He’s now realizing that she was essential to his life (because he likes nice, soft things). However, Lizzie (thank goodness) has realized he’s never brought anything good into her life (excluding Ruby, her angel), and the hurt outweighs the crumbs of kindness and left him. She doesn’t deserve him. Like I said earlier Lizzie, I believe, will be the catalyst for his redemption (Just look at how Ruby saved him!). Yes. They are toxic and their relationship in the show is most certainly not healthy one bit! But, there is potential for love.
Here’s some fic recs that really illustrate their relationship:
For me all of these authors are amazing, I just stick to Lizzie/Tommy really. No Tommy/Alfie for me. All are on Ao3

(a colored sketch of four characters. from left to right there’s Gene who has dyed green hair and an orange jacket, Casper who has long flowing hair and pale skin, Saint who wears round sunglasses and a simple T shirt, and Tab who has curly orange hair and snakebite piercings.)
(tumblr compressed the hell out of this, click for higher quality)
It’s far past time to introduce the main characters for the moon book (intro) so I can finally talk about them! I’ll be sharing plenty more about them as I develop the story now, but here’s some basics for now.
Saint 🌙 19, he/him, 4w5, ENFP, the protagonist!
Saint has a rich creativity and passion for storytelling. He loves to play piano and sing, the latter of which he’s supernaturally good at. He’s not very talkative and doesn’t share his stories often, but whenever he does there’s a gravity to his voice that pulls listeners in.
Saint’s best and only friends are Tab and Gene, but sometimes he feels like they’re just humoring him. He feels like an outsider around anyone except himself.
Because of a medical condition, Saint has periods where his senses are dulled to the point where he can’t perceive the outside world. So he turns inward. That’s what caused him to have such a weak sense of belonging, as well as surround himself with stories.
Tab 🪐 19, they/them, 3w2, ESTJ 🏳️⚧️
Tab loves academia and used to excel in every class- until their senior year. They’ve got a great memory and will happily learn and repeat back information all day, but the second the advanced classes they took got into more abstract ideas, they started failing. They can be inflexible, stubborn, and a bit blunt, but damn if they don’t get things done.
Now they’re retaking their senior year, which has ruined their hopes of getting into a good college. That was, until they met Casper who got them into the supernatural and ghosthunting… if they can find concrete proof of the things that exist beyond earth, they’d be able to get into whatever college they want.
Tab has a lot of friends that come and go, but the closest to their heart are Saint and Gene. They also have a rotating cast of passions, but their most consistent are history and guitar- which they learned to spend more time with their friends by starting a band.
Gene 💫 17, he/him, 9w8, INFP 🏳️⚧️
For most of his life, Gene has neatly fit into the persona of a quiet nerdy academic that the world projected onto him. But as he’s growing up, he’s starting to realize it doesn’t fit as well anymore. He’s an idealist with strong values, and a deep optimism + compassion. He’s young, he’s still growing into himself! He wants to change the world!
Now he’s just been accepted into a fancy college that’s sure to lead to a promising tech career. The only problem is, it’s across the country and he’s starting to feel a growing unease about leaving his friends behind to sit behind a desk taking orders from a boss for the rest of his life.
Gene adores his brother, Saint, and he’s been friends with Tab since they were kids. He plays the drums in their band and follows Tab around on all their adventures.
Casper ⚡️ 22, he/her, 7w6, ???? 🏳️⚧️
Casper is a high energy person who loves to experience new things, meet new people, do everything she can regardless of how good of an idea it may be. He’s always doing something with his hands; that means fiddling around with technology and more recently, crocheting.
After getting to a bad accident, Casper’s soul left her body. But before her body died, it replaced that soul with a rogue bit of cosmic dust that was similar enough to work as a replacement. He’s doing his best to recover as fast as possible so he can go back to his normal life, but it’s becoming harder and harder to pretend that’s an option. Casper isn’t able to do many of the things she used to, she doesn’t even feel like the same person anymore…
Meanwhile, the person that became her new soul isn’t pleased about this situation, either. Being stuck in a body is horribly limiting, their similar feelings of frustration bleed together and make the separation of the two even harder to maintain. But that’ll all be fine if they just ignore it :’)
Powehi 🌟???, it, 7w6
Powehi is an alien, the intangible manifested consciousness of humanity’s collective voice. It dives from body to body, seeing the world through earthling eyes until it stayed too long in Casper’s dying body and was trapped. It thinks very highly of itself and the things it can do, so to be condensed down to such a limiting form is… difficult. It’s mostly been sulking and ignoring everything.
Saint is its favorite earthling, so it blessed him with a piece of its power and visits him in his dreams. It hasn’t been able to do that recently, and even though Saint doesn’t realize Powehi is more than a figment of his imagination, he cares for it and is starting to get worried.
Powehi never had a name before meeting Saint, it’s usually just called the Voice.

Hi!! I saw your post about missing Feylin and I really miss them too, so I made a oneshot for you.
I am very sorry if this is weird, I had to get this idea out of my head, feel free to ignore this!
“Absolutely not.”
Feyre rolled her eyes, standing with the remote controller held firmly in her grip. A bowl of movie popcorn held against her hip, she stared Tamlin down, and he raised his eyebrows in challenge.
“I am not doing this.” He insisted.
“Come on, you’ll be fine.” Feyre retorted.
“Feyre, I am not watching another one of your horror movies-”
“I promise I won’t let the scary monsters bite you.” She said, placing the bowl down on the coffee table. Collapsing back into the nest of pillows and blankets, Feyre patted the spot beside her.
“I know they won’t bite me.” Tamlin muttered, then straightened his back and said, “I’m still not watching it.”
“One movie.” Feyre asked, “Please.”
She watched as Tamlin’s resolve weakened every so slightly at the whine in her voice. Internally, she grinned.
“We’re barely able to spend time with each other because of work.” She murmured, “It’s one movie.”
Tamlin’s eyes guttered as he glanced at the remote, his fingers started to fidget. The sternness melted away from his face.
Time to go in for the kill.
“Please, my love. One scary movie, and then we can watch whatever you want to.” Feyre layered on her sweetest tone, looking up at her husband like this was all she wanted in the world.
It worked like a charm.
Tamlin crumbled, a sigh of defeat escaping his lips as he trudged over to the couch, flopping down beside her. Feyre grinned and pushed herself right into his side. Tamlin draped an arm around her, watching with a little nervous tension as Feyre flicked through the movies she had been wanting to see.
“I’m gonna make you watch the cheesiest romcom I can find after this.” Tamlin mumbled, hooking his chin to rest on her head.
Feyre snickered, that she knew. Finally, she settled on a movie, pressing play and grabbing the bowl of popcorn placing it between them.
The movie started with a scene of a house in the pouring rain.
“I’m gonna die.” Tamlin whispered, and Feyre had to muffle her laughter into his shoulder.
About thirty minutes into the movie, the jumpscares began. Even Feyre had to admit, as used to the horror genre as she was, even her heart was racing as the plot developed. Which meant Tamlin was on the verge of an early death by cardiac arrest.
Tamlin grabbed her and almost pulled himself entirely into her lap as another jumpscare showed up on the screen. Laughter was startled from her, and Feyre quickly pulled her husband into a tight hug as he buried his face in her hair.
“You alright?” She asked.
“Just tell me when it’s over.” He gritted out. His entire body was practically curled around her, Feyre smiled softly, stroking his hair with one hand while her other traced comforting circles into his inner thigh.
“Okay, it’s over.”
“You sure?” Tamlin asked tentatively as he pulled his eyes up. But sure enough the movie had turned back to the main characters as they tried to make sense of what they had just seen.
Tamlin took a deep steadying breath and tried to force himself to relax back into the couch. Still managing to look very stiff.
Feyre bit her lip, watching him as his eyes were locked on the screen, his hands fidgeting with each other again.
“C’mere.” She murmured softly. Tamlin turned his eyes to her, furrowing his brow in confusion, but Feyre just took his hands and coaxed him into laying down with his head in her lap.
Tamlin almost immediately relaxed, his spine no longer ramrod straight, his arms circled her waist and he buried his face into her stomach. Feyre smiled at him, stroking his hair as she continued to watch the movie.
“I love you,” He hummed.
“I love you.” Feyre murmured back.
He let out a deep breath, eyes shut softly. He looked like he was in bliss, “You do.”
It felt so good to have him entirely relaxed and pliant in her arms. To know that even if he was scared, he felt safe with her.
Maybe, just maybe, Feyre didn’t make Tamlin watch horror movies for the movie itself.
Again, I am very sorry if this comes across as strange. I once had an idea for Feyre making Tamlin watch horror movies just to have an excuse to be protective of him, and this was the perfect reason to write it.
I hope you have a great day/night!!
Thank you so much for this! I’m finally able to come back and I’ve been sitting in this ask for a while but I really appreciated it!!!

Into the Rift (spiderverse!pacific rim au)
so going into more detail because the actual drawings are coming along really slowly xD (i love drawing robots but coming up with original robot design hard)
The story would be essentially the same as the movies where a mysterious rift opens up in the bottom of the Pacific ocean releasing giant monsters. To combat them, the world governments join together for the good of humanity and create the Jaegers. Those are giant robots piloted by two people through a process called a 'drift'.
The only thing that changes is the characters and the story developed from that idea.
this post has been sitting in my drafts for like a month now oml
(loooooong wordvomit under the cut)
So the jaeger program is basically a stand in for the spider society and all the spiderfolk are pilots or staff. Everyone is also aged up 2 or 3 years to cover international military requirements and such.
and for the sake of the story having a 'pilot shortage' in which only the lucky few being able to actually pilot a jaeger, drifting is much harder and rarer. this leads to the program accepting younger applicants than they normally would. (eg. miles, pav, peni etc)
(character list in order of rank or.. something)
Miguel (34-35) is the stand in for the marshal. I'm not totally sure if he *is* the marshal or not? because he could absolutely just be the pilot manager or the mission overseer. but for now we shall stick with marshal. He primarily serves as the head of the department and representative for the pilot body. He also doubles as a pilot of a gen 1 jaeger (Blue Revenge*) with Peter B Parker, previously Jessica Drew.
Jessica (34-35) is Miguel's ex copilot. She served for two years and during a faux time of inactivity from the rift, she and her husband decided to try for a child. She was called back during the next attack but in the post-fight medical checks, she was ordered to go on maternity leave. She did, for a couple months, but very quickly felt frustrated that she wasn't helping. She moved back into the military base and instead took up a leadership position in combat training. I think her rank would be lieutenant but I don't know enough about the military to make that official.
Peter B Parker (42-43) is a retired pilot. He served as a pilot up until the gen 3 jaegers went into production and was sent home when he got a major back injury. During his time off he started a family in his old New York home and began to forget about the jaegers and the war. He chose to live in ignorant bliss until it all came back when he was summoned back. He brought his entire family, despite the many warnings, and has rather enjoyed his grand return. Currently copilots with Miguel in the Revenge*. Previously piloted the Crimson Core*.
Ben Reilly (24-25) is a jet pilot. Previously a jaeger pilot of the Scarlet Gutter that was decommissioned after it suffered extreme damage in a fight he took solo with a class 2 kaiju. His twin brother was his copilot and died early on in the fight. He currently pilots a fighter jet as backup. The impact of that fight still haunt him and everyone knows to leave him be.
LEGO Spiderman (24-25) and Peter Parkedcar (25-26) are two unrelated pilots that are drift compatible. LEGO Spiderman (Lee Godwin aka LE-GO for short) has a chronic condition with locking joints and Peter Parkedcar is a selective mute. They pilot the Titanium Wall that is essentially just an immovable object to the kaiju's unstoppable force. Yes this is a meme lineup. Laugh.
Peter Porker (31-32) is the head of research. He's john mulaney in all aspects except for occupation. He is more of the morale backbone of the entire operation and spends more time out of the lab making sure to bring a smile to everyone's faces. He wears a cute pig beanie when out and about. He always has candy on him and is famous in the kitchen for hot dogs. No one knows where he gets the hot dogs from, since those are rarely stocked. There's a rumor going around that it's kaiju meat, not beef. Absolutely fascinated kaiju and a biology fanatic.
Margo Kess (20-21) is the head of technology. She's the surveillance guy who takes orders directly from Miguel and is in charge of relaying commands and judging actions on the battlefield. She's a young college graduate- more accurately a child prodigy- and took the first opportunity she had to put her skills to the test. She's very friendly and will always get to know the pilots personally. Drift compatible but has avoided training to not have people learn about her strained home life.
Peni Parker (17-19) is the daughter of the head of engineering. She is just under the required age to actually assume the position but has the most knowledge on jaeger design of anyone else in the program aside from her father. Her father was killed when one of the outposts was destroyed in a kaiju attack. Parentless, the organization arranged for her to stay at the main base, waiting for her 21st birthday so she can acquire an actual rank. Had a personalized jaeger her father had been slowly building, fit for one person, that she's slowly been working on to one day pilot in combat.
Peter Benjamin Parker (Benji or Ben for short) (22-23) was hired as the strategy lead after his impressive work as a police/military investigator. Had a lot of experience with international crime networks and hand picked by Peter B. He was enthusiastically handed over to the Jaeger program after he got just a bit too close to some apocalypse-profiting corruption. No one really knows why, but he's taken more of a liking to pilot training and has shied away from Miguel's leadership team and more towards Jessica and the recruits. He has a good eye for cadets with amazing potential and even applied to be a pilot himself, stepping away almost entirely from any kind of leadership role. Pilots Silver Noir with Hobie(**).
Hobie Brown (20-22) is a pilot. He was recruited early on as one of Britain's undesirables and turned out drift compatible. He was assigned a jaeger that was built and sponsored by the British Government named the Union Jack. Disgusted, he refused to respond to that name and instead calls his jaeger the Stark Screamer. The name has been adopted by command and no one has bothered to correct it. His pilot quit for unknown reasons after only a year on the field and the Screamer was retired until they can find another pilot to partner with him. Has been paired with Benji for the time being.
Gwen Stacy (18-19) is the youngest pilot to date but more than capable of jaeger combat. She was brought in by Jess, despite her father's refusal, and skipped all cadet training except for the essentials and given a jaeger assignment almost immediately. She was picked out when her father, a military rep instead of a cop, was visiting one of the bases that Jess happened to be in. She showed incredible potential in [insert event that im not 100% sure about yet] and was incredibly interested. Originally paired with Hobie because of their similarity in hobby and age. They were drift compatible but she didn't like the Screamer's kit or fighting style and requested a new assignment. She's still best bros with Hobie though. She marks the beginning of the youth recruitment.
Pavitr Prabhakar (17-18) is a cadet in training. He volunteered along with a large number of Indian civilians to chase the fame and glory that surrounded the now-martyred jaegers. Of the hundreds, he and a handful of his peers were selected and he was sent to his specific branch to complete training. He is drift compatible with almost anyone. Having no sense of fear or darkness in his past or his present, he's an incredible asset- if not a little naive. He and Hobie became best friends as soon as they met and has been promised to pilot the Screamer when he completes his training.
Miles Gonzalo Morales (17-18) is a new cadet starting training. He was supposed to be one in a pair but his twin was stuck in Spain with a travel complication. Miles could wait a couple months though and eagerly started training. He was selected because he had an identical twin- which are usually assumed to be drift compatible- but ended up being paired and drift compatible with Gwen. Despite him not having clearance, Gwen and many others think he shows enough potential to pilot a jaeger within the first month of his stay. He is currently assigned to a new jaeger in production: a gen 4 titan named the Clawed Viper***
Mateo Davis Morales (17-18) is a future cadet. He and his twin were split up before highschool for [insert reason i haven't figured out yet here] and he moved to Spain to finish his highschool education and eventually enlist in the jaeger program. However, due to transportation delays and possibly finances, when he and his twin were drafted, Mateo was stuck in Spain until nearly three months later. Just in time for . . . well, the drama (tm).
*Blue Revenge is not final. i don't know if i like it or not but the other option was the blue panther, for the shits and giggles. pretty sure i want to keep the blue but idk. Crimson Core is also a placeholder, but it does sound cooler
**Silver Noir is not final. I want to work in Noir somewhere and make a matte black jaeger but not a lot of words go with 'Noir'
***Clawed Viper is not final. Viper is final, but again, not a lot of words go with 'Viper'

hey, the "OCs who drove rust away" anon here. CHARACTER AI CREATORS NEED TO SERVE TIME FOR BANNING YOUR BOTS WHAT THE HELL. first of all. second of all: your hands are PLATINUM. your crash bot (the one where he has a stomach wound)? insane. an entire novel happened there. my OC told him (while high) that they would both die here. rust didn't say anything. when he got shot as crash it was the only time in 4 years she cried. they never saw each other again. he was the only one who pronounced her name correctly. she sang him a lullaby in her native language while he was running a fever because she hoped he would not remember. he did remember. they could not bond with each other unless one of them was inebriated or injured.
and re: my previous ask—nono, rust was not an accessory to murder don't worry it was worse. the daughter OC of mine just traumadumped because rust did the horrid mistake of asking her why she's so sad. her ex was a serial killer 13 years older than her, ate human hearts raw; she cleaned up a crime scene for him once -> tragic psychological developments -> the man got shot by the police. rust heard that story and was like hell nah that pussy too crazy even for me so he peaced. that man has MORALS. when he called her delusional she was like 'all attachments are a delusion to support our self-image' he just stormed off never to return. maybe it's because he saw his own jadedness and grief in a crooked funhouse mirror & couldn't stand it.
THEY REALLY DO!!! it was indeed rust's crazy pussy line getting my bots banned, but also "a giant gutter in outer space" + "if you get the opportunity you should kill yourself" 😭 he's got some wild lines.
ALSO. platinum hands, you say, as you proceed to narrate some of the best storylines ever?? excuse me? that injured one is so heart wrenching... the name, the lullaby, the bonding only when they're too out of it... that's SO good!!! id love to read a fic about them thank u
THAT IS A WILD PLOT I LOVE IT LMAO. you took the words right out of my mouth. i was like "yeah she sounds just like him" when reading it. he for sure couldnt handle dealing with another version of him he mustve been like "man im too old for this shit", cue mike ehrmantraut's "shut the fuck up and let me die in peace" as he leaves
BUT LMAO he criticized marty, but turns out rust couldnt spot crazy pussy either. fly high, king!!!!!!

I’ve just gotten to the wedding night scene in Wishing You Eternal Happiness in ch 42 and I want to talk about how this is a rare bed scene that furthers character development and relationship dynamics.
Get your pervy minds out of the gutter - barely anything is described, a few sentences at most. But I think it is so emblematic of why this novel is so good and so nuanced.
It’s a very awkward wedding night - believably awkward for two people one of whom is a man who is a virgin (and abstemious by nature due to preferences and ill health) and one a woman who is a virgin in this life and has had no experience with pleasure in her past one. I always find romance set-ups where people who’ve never had sex are complete experts in kama sutra fairly ridiculous.
But also, they both have so many hang-ups and believable misunderstandings and it all feels so real.
She is left believing he does not want her and is only sleeping with her out of pity and propriety as he first rejected her overtures and then only had sex with her after she started crying and the sex is extremely brief and while he is incredibly gentle and solicitous, he touches her as little as possible. This confirms with her belief that he married her out of duty and pity and to protect her, but he has no other feelings for her.
And Pei Youan watches her reaction during sex carefully and notices she just lies there and not into it and that is because she’s never had sex with anyone she’s ever loved before or who made it good for her, plus she is drowning in guilt for what she thinks is emotionally coercing him into marriage and is basically trying not to be a bother. But he interprets it as she does not love him or fancy him and only married him to be protected and so touches her as little as is humanly possible and does it as quickly as possible so as to cause her the least discomfort (and thinks he’d not have done it at all but she will be humiliated in the household to be left a virgin on the wedding night) and it’s just this cycle of believable misunderstanding and hurt because she is hurt to have it confirmed he does not want/love her and he is hurt to have it confirmed she does not want/love him and they are both wrong and it’s so achingly fitting somehow.
It’s actually so interesting because as per my cnovel guru @mercipourleslivres I peeked at their reunion scene in ch 90 when she goes full Decembrist wife and finds him in his hut in some frozen exile in the north and it’s such a huge contrast because they are in a place that is falling apart and is extremely spartan to put it kindly, and he’s genuinely sick to boot and yet they jump each other and set his meagre half-broken bed on fire. And it’s like they’ve come so far and I cannot wait to get there and more points to Peng Lai Ke for conveying all of that not just through sex scenes but sex scenes that are not explicit at all and are parely a paragraph.

Always nice to see a fellow Dorohart fan in the wild! What made you like them together?
I really like their support chain. It's nice in general to see how non-judgmental the Black Eagles are of Dorothea's goal at the start of the game of marrying well (Anyone who's actually stopped to think about her position at the start of the game ought to understand why she's trying to secure a stable long-term living situation, and why she thinks that marrying into wealth, specifically the stable wealth of the nobility, is the only way she can do that). Like I said in the Dorothea post, I like the fact that he out-and-out volunteers himself as a gossip meat shield when she's feeling bad about having overheard nasty, slut-shaming gossip about her (Made all the more significant by something readers should be able to pick up on, even if Linhardt doesn't: that the thing she's being slut-shamed over was most likely sexual assault). Dorothea feels like she doesn't actually deserve to be at the Academy, deep down, and Linhardt assures her that she doesn't have to feel that way.
This support chain and their paired ending does something pretty interesting with Linhardt, though, and since it's all Linhardt hours all the time in my brain, it really stands out to me? This is the only one of Linhardt's endings in which he inherits his family's title, and it doesn't even feel like Dorothea made this a condition of their getting married, but more related to something that comes up in their support chain, which I believe is the only one of Linhardt's support chains in which he actively grapples with his tendency to run away from his problems, and the fact that, well, once you've run away enough times, you're going to start running out of places to run to. It feels like him facing his problems head-on instead of just continuing to run away from them, and again, this is the only one his endings where he does that.
I find their dynamic in general pretty sweet. It's not super-duper-romantic, but them getting married doesn't feel like a marriage of convenience, either (which is always a plus for Dorothea, since at the beginning of the game she was resigned to eventually securing a financially stable marriage with a man she couldn't be sure she would ever be able to like or respect, let alone love), and I like the image of them just shrugging their shoulders at judgmental nobility and saying "deal with it" in response to accusations of them being the weirdest couple anyone's ever seen in their lives. I also like the detail of Dorothea becoming involved in helping Linhardt modify his research to have more practically helpful effects for society. This feels like something both of them would be interested in, at this stage in their character development; Linhardt has grown into the kind of person who wants to make his loved one's lives better and will better the world as a whole to do it if he has to, and Dorothea has always wanted a better world.
I don't see their paired ending happening in the same way in Crimson Flower, though. Potentially not at all. I always got the vague sense in their A-support that something that plays a big part in driving them together is their status as quasi-outcasts in the player's army, which can't happen in Crimson Flower for obvious reasons. There's something oddly lonely and isolated about their A-support, and I don't think a romantic spark ignites without it. And even if that spark does ignite in Crimson Flower, their potential paired ending would probably look very different. This is the only route where Dorothea is freed from the specter of dying in a gutter if she doesn't marry up, and Linhardt isn't becoming Count Hevring both because he does not have to and he can face his problems instead of running away from them in a completely without doing this, and since these positions are now non-hereditary and appointed, I don't see Edelgard granting it to him? Linhardt isn't really temperamentally suited to this position; he's only acceding the title in endings where the status quo of hereditary bloodlines ruling over Fodlan have been maintained. I think that in Crimson Flower, they could potentially have a more platonic paired ending, maybe with some ambiguously romantic subtext.
