When it comes to spirits, mythological creatures, and ghouls, the 141 is split completely. Gaz and Ghost stand firmly on not believing them — why would they? They’re ruthless killers, surely they’d be haunted by now. Price just shrugs his shoulders and usually says “Who am I to say what’s real and what’s not?” But Soap?

Don’t get Soap started

He was born and raised in Scotland, more importantly, the thick woods, which means Soap knows everything you need to know. Ever since he was just a wee lad, he knew how to be kind to folk. He has books upon books about the different kinds of fae, boxes and boxes and incense and sage — just in case someone brings something back from a mission — and a bunch of pendulums. You name it, he has it. Soap doesn’t fuck around with it when it comes to that type of shit. His Momma taught him better than to try a spirit.

So whenever Soap starts saying something feels off with the base, Gaz decides to fuck with the “spirit” that Soap is claiming must be present. Gaz goes around taunting it, insulting it, and just throwing everything at the “spirit” that he could. There were a few moments of silence as Gaz looked as proud as ever at his taunting before a loud CRASH echoed through the quiet base. When the group expected the noise it just so happened that Gaz’s favorite mugs — the ones that were kept huff from his teammates — were shattered completely on the floor. Soap just stands there with a smug look and announces that he'll be back.

When Soap does return, he’s carrying a box with a bunch of symbols carved along the sides but a big Celtic knot on the center of the lid (one that Ghost recognized as Soap’s family Celtic knot). Soap grabbed several items from the box. Three necklaces (each one having a different pendant and made all of them wear one), incense and a holder, sage, and a lighter with Gaelic engravings on it. Soap starts by lighting the incense and starts asking questions, taking long moments to watch the smoke move before asking more questions (which left Gaz stunned by the way the smoke was constantly changing. ). After the incense burned out, Soap made Ghost walk around with the burning sage, making sure every high corner was touched by the smoke before putting everything back in the box.

“His name’s Brian,” Soap casually stated while waving at the door frame, ignoring the confused looks he got from his teammates. “Price brought him back from France.”

You mentioned a while ago that Faiza is afraid of mice. Is there any specific reason why (e.g. a traumatic memory involving the animals)? Faiza grew up in a wealthy household; so I doubt that mice ever posed a legitimate threat to her health, safety, or food supply, as they might for poorer people.

There's not a specific reason, it's just a phobia + disgust response. The only thing I have canon as a Mouse Event is her having been freaked out by the experience of feeling A Mouse run over her legs when she was trying to sleep and being very nervous about that situation as a little kid.

This isn't like, traumatic though (and people sleep on the floor so this is going to be a Relatively common experience that most people don't derive phobias from). She's just creeped out by them. A lot of it is mouse-specific too, like rats wig her out as well but it's the lightning fast skittering movements of mice are that really unsettle her. They are just Too Small and Too Fast and have creepy nasty little worm tails and carry disease and eat your food and etc etc etc.

Most people will have regular encounters with mice, so she would have plenty of minor interactions that reinforce this fear. She will have periodically experienced walked into a room/opening a pantry/ etc and seeing a horde of them creepily zip into the shadows. She also grew up with pet polecats (favored Wardi housepet + ratter), and they don't do the cat 'bringing their owner their kill' thing but Will stockpile bodies of prey for later use, so it's very likely she's like, moved aside some clothing or looked behind some furniture and found a heap of mouse carcasses. Probably has tried to kill one only to watch it leap 20x its body length straight up and disappear into a crevice, unsettling. Etc.

That's in conjunction with (pretty standard) intense cultural aversion towards small rodents as grain/house pests. They're considered Extremely dirty animals heavily associated with disease and contamination, which is especially acute in a worldview heavily centered around an integrated physical-spiritual cleanliness. And as grain pests they can pose very legitimate threats to people's survival. This isn't going to be a direct Threat to nobility, but it's still a factor at play. Things that pose threats to the survival of peasantry are also going to be concerns for nobility (it's just that the latter is likelier to be inconvenienced than Starved), which goes doubly for potential agents of disease (there's only so much the material benefits of class can do when you don't have vaccines/antibiotics/etc, you're Less likely to die of disease than someone living in cramped high density quarters but if you catch something You Catch Something).

Sometimes I feel I shouldn’t be tagging my naked mole rat art with mole interest because they aren’t technically moles - in terms of scientific classification they only share the same class (mammalia)

Moles are in the Eulipotyphla order, which means (according to me skim reading the wiki page) they are fat and blind, typhla coming from the Greek word typhlon which means blind (at least as far as I can tell by using the first thing google shows me) and I can’t immediately find what the eulipo part means

Naked mole rats are in Rodentia order, meaning they have really big ass teeth that kinda just keep growing because they’re built different

Rats at least share an order with naked mole rats though that’s where the connection ends - rats as it turns out has far too vague a use. The genus Rattus is typically all rats but you can still get rats outside of the genus which bothers me

Naked mole rats are apparently most closely related to Guinea pigs, porcupines and chinchillas which is strange, though admittedly I know nothing about any of them so I’m not sure why this is the case

Anyways the mole interest tab seems to be used for random things anyways so it’s not that important I just like thinking about this stuff :D that and I need to spread the naked mole rat agenda and this was all a clever ruse to make you read about my favourite guys

Meet "In Regards To Enternity Goes Horribly Wrong" AU Timeline. The kickoff is that Lily isn't able to recover from what happened and fell into a coma. Assigned to a Dr. Avis, things quickly went downhill.

From the Estrellas release, to virus attacks, and much more, the Mushroom Kingdom was in ruin and anarchy. People get desperate, and some people turned to necromancy to try and get some semblance back. Unfortunately, a certain cult leader uses this as a way to get out.

Following this, and many other situations cutting off the world from the Adminspace, doing something to the USB Trio, and the crew being split up, Lily is left in the care of Dr. Avis and Young Effective Memory Recollection Unit, or YEMRU for short. Following the kingdom being split into quadrants, Dr. Avis, Lily, and YEMRU unfortunately end up in Lady Rose's.

Dr. Avis can not live forever, so she gives YEMRU instructions. She unfortunately wasn't able to slow down Lily's aging, as it became apparent that this new kingdom was the new normal, so if Lily ever does end up waking anytime soon, she at the very least will be a young teen.

YEMRU is instructed to, once Dr. Avis inevitably passes, never let Lily out of his sight. He's to be her companion, and make sure she ends up okay. Boyfriend, Girlfriend, (yes, from FNF, sue me I'm on a kick of it), and MK Hatsune Miku end up stumbling on the hideout, and she entrusts them to the same task as YEMRU. She does what she did to Lily to them, and time moves on. (I like to think Lily in both this and the main timeline is close with them, due to the whole music thing.)

Lily does end up waking up, but not before so much time has passed that she's now around 15. She's very clearly confused and disoriented, but the group explains to her the best they can. Mr L is unfortunately one of the quadrant leaders, and considering his and Lady Rose's past agreement, Lily already has a terrible feeling.

Explaining all that they know, Lily becomes a deadset on figuring out what's happened and how to fix it. Knowing she's serious, the group agrees, and they all set out to figure out what's happened, see if the Crew is alive, and hope and pray that this can all be fixed.

Part One - Part Two - Part Three

Weeks went by, and little by little, piece by piece, Simon begins learning you. Your last name, the one you share with Charlie and Emma, your birthday, your favorite food.

Bigger things, too -- how Charlie was a surprise in a not-so-great relationship with a man who'd left and come back, sworn up and down that he'd changed just long enough for another surprise to come in Emma, and who'd left again soon after.

He doesn't just hope for random run-ins with you at the park now, either. He has your number, and you have his. Sometimes you invite him over for dinner, sometimes Charlie grabs the phone and begs him to come play, but more and more, he's finding himself at your house.

One day, Simon talks to Charlie at the dinner table while you're giving the baby a bath, and the scene is so domestic it almost hurts, the way some bit of sweetness can cause a toothache if it hits just right. You and he haven't talked more about his feelings for you or whether you share them, but that's fine by him. You trust him now, enough to let him tend to your son or hold your daughter, and that means everything to him.

"You wanna hear a joke?" he asks Charlie, who nods, smiling and ready, so he says, "What do you call a teddy bear who's going bald?"

"I don't know, what?"

"Fred Bear."

Charlie looks at him blankly, big eyes confused. "The bear's name is Fred?"

Simon chuckles, but before he can say anything else, you come out from the hallway, holding baby Emma.

"Is Simon trying to tell more jokes?" you ask Charlie.

You grin playfully at Simon, and even after all the hours he's spent with you and your family, it's like the first time all over again. Except better now -- it's better every time. Next is the bedtime routine, which he's familiar with at this point. Emma, who's been so close to sleeping through the night, you've told him, gets one more feeding and plenty of snuggles before getting placed in the bassinet by your bed, while Charlie gets an equal amount of snuggles, as long as he'll sit still for them, and a bedtime story after he's all tucked in.

Simon helps out where he can, or when he's confident enough in whatever placed he's carved out in your family to offer, but often he stays back, cleaning up after dinner or straightening up the living room.

He's in the kitchen now, working through the dishes, when you come in, kid-free and trusty baby monitor in your hand. By the look on your face, he knows what you're about to say, and he tries to nip it in the bud.

"Don't need the 'you don't have to do this' speech tonight, love, I've heard it enough I can recite it by heart now."

"But you don't," you tell him, leaning against the counter by the sink, close enough that he can feel your warmth when he puts a clean dish in the drainer. "You know you can just come and hang out, you don't have to do my cleaning for me."

He smiles, glancing up at you, and says, "You want to say my part now or should I?"

You roll your eyes, taking a soapy dish from him so you can rinse it yourself, and pitch your voice as low as it can go, mocking him as you say, "'Know I don't have to, I want to, I’m a very large, very tough man and a sink full of dirty dishes and a bin full of dirty nappies is no match for me.’”

"That's what I sound like, is it?"

You laugh, bumping his hip with yours, and continue with the silly voice.

"'My name is Simon, I tell awful jokes and am very mysterious, but if you need a nap and have a four-year-old who won't slow down for two seconds, I'm your guy.'"

It's all very silly, but very cute, and he can't keep the smile off his face. You keep opening up to him more and more, and every new thing he sees from you, even dumb little moments of levity like this, make him fall even harder. It's such a stark contrast to the woman he met that first day, the one who trusted him only because she had to and lied about having a husband so he might think twice about hurting her.

Even then, he would have died before hurting you, but now?

"I am, you know," he says quietly, handing you another dish.

"You are what?"

"Your guy."

To him, it's just a fact. Of course he's yours. But you look at him with widening eyes, not all that different than the look Charlie gives him when he fixes the persistently leaky faucet or carries all the groceries home so you can carry the baby and hold the boy's hand -- like he's doing something magical when he's just doing something that he knows should be done. It's too much, to be held in such high regard. To feel this important.

With careful hands, still warm and damp from the water from the sink, he grips your waist. When you don't push him away, he gently lifts you to sit on the counter in front of him, closer to eye level. And when, miraculously, you still seem good with what's happening, he leans in.

Simon wants to go fast, because he knows how much he needs this -- how much he needs you, just like this, sleepy after a full day and happy with a full life and right there in his arms -- but he doesn't. He moves in slowly, giving you ample time to stop him, but you don't. Instead, you lift your hands to his shoulders and pull him in to close the distance between you.

Through the baby monitor, he hears you softly soothing your daughter. He can't make out every word, but the love and care in your tone is clear. He sees the goodness in you every time he's with you, a softness unlike anything he's never known, and it's intoxicating. It's dizzying, someone like you letting someone like him get so close. It makes him feel like he's falling and flying all at once, like he wants to claw at his own skin just to get his hands on the part of you that buzzes through him.
