This wasn’t your fault. This really wasn’t your fault. How could you be blamed for wanting to give your partner all the smooches—especially when Xaden Riorson was sprawled across your lap looking utterly perfect?

The day had started innocently enough. You’d woken up to him lying on his side, the early morning light catching the faint scar that crossed his brow. He looked so at peace, his breathing soft and rhythmic, that you couldn’t help it. One kiss—just one—on his forehead turned into a cascade of smooches across his jaw, his cheekbones, the corner of his mouth.

Xaden had stirred slightly, murmuring, “What are you doing?” but the way his lips curved gave you permission to continue.

That should’ve been it. It could’ve been it. But no.

By the time the two of you made it to the council meeting, you were practically radiating affection. You’d kept a hand on his face just because, thumb brushing over his stubble while he tried to keep a straight face. You’d dropped kisses along his temple and murmured nonsense about how “he was too good for this world,” which earned you a deadpan look from Bodhi, who muttered something about needing a bucket. Garrick had merely rolled his eyes, but there had been a smirk there—one he thought you wouldn’t catch.

Everyone else had scoffed during the morning briefing, a consensus of amusement and secondhand embarrassment swirling in the room. But if Xaden had an issue with it, he would’ve said something.

Only, the man in question seemed delighted.

“What’s going on—” Kiss. “With you—” Kiss. “Today?” Kiss.

The last one had you pausing just long enough to hear the low chuckle that escaped him, a sound so soft and deep it made your toes curl. His hands rested on your hips, holding you while his dark eyes searched yours, dancing with fondness.

You grinned, brushing your nose against his. “Just felt like loving on you. Is it so wrong?”

The corner of his mouth twitched before he pulled you closer, a smug look settling onto his handsome face. “No. I think it’s perfect.”

It would’ve been a perfect moment if Bodhi hadn’t loudly gagged from across the field.

“Oh for fuck’s sake, are you done yet?” he groaned. “I can feel the cavities forming.”

Garrick shot him a look. “Don’t act like you don’t love it.”

Xaden ignored them both, tilting his head to steal an actual kiss this time, slow and deliberate, the kind that made you forget why you were in public. When he pulled back, there was a teasing edge to his voice.

“Don’t let them stop you. I’ve got all day.”

You laughed softly, tucking yourself closer to him. “That’s dangerous, Riorson. I might take you up on that.”

And you did—kisses trailing along his jawline, his ear, the scar on his neck that he pretended not to be sensitive about. It wasn’t your fault that the man was irresistible.

And everyone who bore witness to this would survive. Even the dragons, who had a word or two to say about this display.
