My god this show was really Maiden MOTHER Crone. The double meanings are back. It’s obviously for Hecate Greek goddess of witchcraft but also a journey of womanhood, for Agatha.

Agatha starts as just a maiden, she’s fresh faced and a new lady when she kills her coven, her only coven.

Mother, she becomes a mother and a damn good one at that. She leaves a trail of bodies for Rio, as an offering, as a distraction who knows. Who cares. Everything she does she does it for her child. Just like Lorna Wu, just like Wanda Maximoff. And ironically unlike her own mother.

Crone, how she ends up. Yeah she’s a ghost but she’s visibly older, grey haired and also, looking a lot like her mother. Full circle omg I can feel my blood flowing again.

the characteristics that describe how the others view Rio:

- Strong and wise, and the best at her craft (Lilia)

- Smart and not annoying, and also not super political (Agatha)

- Pleasant looking (Jen)

- Advil (Alice)

When they do the summoning spell, they summon "the best candidate around" meaning the closest witch who matches the descriptions that they give.

We know that Rio (the Original Green Witch) is strong, wise, and the best at her craft. She is obviously pleasant looking, and if you disagree, meet me in the Walmart parking lot.

Someone pointed out in a recent post that Vidal is an anagram of Advil (that's also what inspired me to make my own post about this).

Also, if Death brings your soul to the afterlife, then...well, shit, Rio is also "advil" in the sense of ending pain by bringing peace. Fuck you very much Jac Schaeffer, this hurts my soul. ETA: oh my fucking GODS bro Alice not seeing her mother brings her the most pain.......her advil would be being reunited with her mom in the afterlife, another layer to it.

Why the fuck is ADVIL of all things going so hard in this show?

As for Agatha's description...this means that she does not actually find Rio annoying. Agatha is so stupidly into Rio that she finds her shenanigans and constant death threats endearing instead of annoying.

I'm sure most of us already knew that just from watching their interactions, but I think it's really funny that the creators/writers added this in.

You guys have no idea how happy I am Alice is finally getting some good fucking characterization, in the comics she was a cop in hong kong whos hair turned red/pink after her mothers death and shoots sometimes magical bullets, and now she is an ex mall security guard a la movie Mike Schmidt one of my favorite characters in marvel. the coral shore is no longer some vague location her mom was either from or protecting and we never get to see but instead her mom's kickass rock band. Instead of the magic powers being passed down by blood but only when the prior witch dies, everyone in the family has magic but the thing thats passed down through death is a curse thats also a metaphor for genrational trauma.

Just post show depression, mixed with utter amazement, I mean the ending and lead up ended up being obvious (referring to episode 8), but I really tried deluding myself into thinking they all were gonna live but wow... Something poetic also is just the ending with spirit as the guide and it being ghost Agatha but also like even with the whole coven two versus coven true being that only Billy and Jen technically made it off the road as the only two alive.

Also the literal kiss of death, but also still refusing to like be with death uh and Rio making her ex into a lovely patch of different plant and fungi species.

Agatha remaining as a ghost cause she can't handle facing her son knowing she twisted the song they used to sing together into something that was used as a con (like Alice Gulliver (may she rest in peace) stated in the second episode). Just the multiple layers of this show man I missed this kind of complexity and thought and love put into shows. Also thank you Lilia for protecting Agatha from a sink. Lilia once again being a real one may she rest in peace.

(also me *since that interview where I think Kathryn Hahn said like that Nicky was Rio's child as well cause Lady Death and Agatha were lovers and magic (may be a joke may not be)* the entire time the 9th episode): WoOw way to be a bad baby daddy Rio leaving ur lover twice in deeply traumatizing situations

Well they didn’t stick the landing for me. I’m glad Jen lived. But they all deserved a much better last few eps than what they got. Agatha deserved better. Rio deserved better. Jen deserved better. Lilia deserved better. Alice deserved better. Teen ended up being the most important character in a show named Agatha All Along. I thought this show would be different.

Can i just say that i don’t give a single flying fuck about how “aaa is just a set up for wiccan” bs, i love the relationship between Agatha and Billy. It’s very rare and hard to build a relationship of two people who should be on the opposite side, but damn does this work so fucking well

Shipping comic ships where both of the people are in the movies but at least one of the characters is vastly different from their comic self and/or the 2 characters have never interacted/been in the same movie makes everything kinda awkward when explaining it to non-comic readers.

I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Alice, or even Sharon/Mrs. Hart. They didn’t have Alice break her generational curse and scream I’LL SEE YOU AT THE END three times just to dump her the next ep. Maybe this is wishful thinking, but the Road is full of tricks and trials!!!!

The whole of Agatha All Along feels like a story dedicated to motherhood and how strong a mother's love is.

Wanda created an illusion just to have children, only to lose them, not accept that loss and instead rip the multiverse in half just to be with them again. Only for her to boys to be afraid of her does she final stop, when she knows she lost them.

Lorna whose whole life she's had to live with physical and metaphor claws on her shoulders. She watched her mother be torn apart by an invisible force that she KNOWS is going to get her soon, but the last thing she can do before she's gone is protect her daughter, that's all she wants to do. Maybe she tried seeking out the witches road and realized it was a farce, so she takes that song that every witch sings and turns it into a protection spell so no matter what and where, Alice is safe.

Lilia's not really emphasized (im stretching i know) but for her to come back to the time with her mother, for her mother to encourage her and comfort her. Yes you will die, but you will go with open eyes.

And Agatha, oh my god Jac cooked with her. For someone whose own relationship with their mother to be so horrible, Agatha was an amazing mother. Pleading with her lover, Death to not take her son after running away just to give birth in a safer location (most likely AWAY from witches hunters and/or Rio). Even after being promised time but not knowing how much she creates it, leaving a trail of bodies so Rio is always busy. Through all this death and through all her trauma not once does she let it affect Nicky. He's a happy joyous boy with a mother so dedicated to him that he doesn't even know that her body count is to keep him alive. When he's gone and Rio takes him, Agatha loses herself, in her grief she refuses to face her lost lover and her son because she can't do it, she takes a song her and her son wrote and leads these covens to their death.

I freaking love mothers in media its like my own personal buffet i could chew these ladies up for HOURS
