yall tell your most random/cute headcanons
i'll go first;
bree once pretended to have problems in eye vision to get glasses like alice. she had gotten everybody to believe her but the doctor, unfortunately.
sel and nick fought a lot for that swing in their house, so much so that one of them deliberately broke a piece of it and the next one who sat on it had a bad case of something called "splinters in your butt".
william took some time to get used to selwyn's silent footsteps and has spilled tea and water over himself due to his almost appearing-out-of-thin-air type appearances. multiple times.
valec is a light drinker, which he realized, at a rather inconvenient time, after getting blackout drunk and waking up shirtless near a pond. nobody knows what the fuck happened.
sarah loves making handmade bracelets and jewelry, and her love language is gifts and acts of service. her birthday gifts are the prettiest.
[a disclaimer, these may or may not be true, and you may or may not find them accurate, so yeah just chill this is supposed to be fun]

Do have any head cannon about Olsen ramziem lyssa Sara Alice Ophelia Emma or Miranda from the. Crossroads lounge. Fecilty
That is a lot of characters and I will be honest and say that I can't do every character on the list since most are minor characters. I will do Alice and Sarah.
Alice Chen:
1. Was born in California but moved to North Carolina when she was a child.
2. She was the new girl at her school and didn't make any friends until Bree approached her during recess. Bree asked Alice to play hopscotch with her and the rest is history.
3. She is bilingual as she can speak English and Mandarin fluently. She used to teach Bree some words and phrases.
3. Before attending UNC, Alice was in the Speech and Debate Club as well as Model United States. She represented France.
4. She is a Swiftie and has most of Taylor Swift's albums. Alice would definitely be a Chappell Roan fan.
5. She has a pet tabby cat back home named Holly.
6. Alice and Bree used to put on puppet shows for their families. They would spent weeks preparing and rehearsing. They quickly grew out of it.
7. During her freshman year of high school, Alice had an Avril Lavigne phase (early 2000s Avril Lavigne).
8. She wants to move to New York after she gets her bachelor's degree.
Sarah "Sar" Griffiths:
1. She is bilingual as she can speak English and Spanish fluently. She learned Spanish because her father would mostly talk to her in Spanish. Due to the racism her and her family faces, Sar pretends she doesn't know Spanish.
2. She is a Swiftie. Her favorite album is 1989. She also likes Lana Del Rey.
3. Sarah's actual last name is Guerrero but had to go by her mother's last name or else she won't succeed within the Order.
5. She has an older sister but are not in speaking terms. Her older sister is more proud of her Latina/Latinx side than Sarah and despises Tor. Her sister told Sar to not speak to her unless she breaks up with Tor.
6. She visited Venezuela at least twice in her life.
7. She likes pastel colors.
8. She is a dog person.

Dark Ships from 2023
It's not the greatest year for villain/heroine or problematic ships I must say. It was really hard to find new juicy stuff but here is what I came up with by order of preference:
Homelander x Starlight (The Boys)
Homelander x Maeve (The Boys) - in a smaller scale
Agatha x Dracula (BBC Dracula)
Eren x Mikasa (Attack on Titan)
Debbie x Nolan (Invincible)
Ikaris x Sersi (Eternals)
Motoko x Puppet Master (Ghost in the Shell (1995))
Charlie x Charles (Shadow of Doubt)
Alice x Luther (Luther)
Gabriel x Michael (Star Trek Discovery)
Guts x Griffith (Berserk)
Happy holidays, everyone!

Sar: Are you ok??
William: Are any of us ok?
Alice: Being ok is overrated, I’ve settled in just being sexy.
Bree, in a yoda voice: Not ok, we are.
Lark: I’m concerned.
Sel: You should be.

A man in standing in the middle of Griffith Park.
Man: This sucks! Yelp is going to hear about this!
Yelp: Griffith Park. One Star. “I waited for hours and I did not get sucked off by a werewolf even once!”
Londerland Bloodlines
Alice: [reading the Yelp review later] ...I think the werewolves there have much more important things to do than suck you off, sir.

230 - Stage Beauty
Tumblr media
Longtime listeners will know that a special space in our podcast lore is reserved for our first six timer, Claire Danes. This week, we return to her work in the opulent and forgotten Stage Beauty. The film cast Danes as a stage dresser who longs to be an actress in a time when women weren’t allowed on the stage, and opposite Billy Crudup as an actor celebrated for his performances in female roles. In an anemic year for Globes Comedy, it looked like the film could fall into a similar vein of the recently Best Picture awarded Shakespeare in Love, but this became a costume drama that the industry overlooked.
This episode, we get into the film’s surprisingly curious (if still dated) eye towards gender and Crudup’s playful performance, which might be his very best. We also dive into the gossip of Danes and Crudup’s onset affair in which Crudup left a pregnant Mary-Louise Parker, her winning Globes speech that very year, and the elusiveness of an Oscar nomination for Crudup.
Topics also include the unmissable Fleishman is In Trouble, the Tribeca Film Festival, and the National Board of Review’s Special Recognition for Excellence in Filmmaking catchall.

Sarah Griffiths: a character study because people aren't talking about her enough and im so disappointed yall pt.1
[spoilers for legendborn and bloodmarked, read at your own caution ;)]
first and foremost, Sarah Griffiths has been my fav character since like forever and I haven't been able to talk about her very much, sincerely sorry, but nvm this post is for her anyway
she is the third person from legendborn that bree met after nick and sel I hope this is some kind of foreshadowing because I want more sar content but okay I'm just grasping fallen marbles atp lool and I feel like a lot of people overlook her. which is understandable because she didn't have a lot of screentime but her time was really important too, so here's my rant about my fav sar moments + character study + fangirling
Tumblr media
her introduction was quite normal and formal, and even i could not imagine her fighting the shadowborns, understandably so because this "pixie-like girl in a flowy dress" doesn't really seem fierce enough, or does she??
sar definitely surprised me specifically in this scene:
Tumblr media
while everyone is heavily confused but still alert on their jobs, sar made sure to place bree to safety, without giving any unnecessary lecture about "oh page matthews tf were you thinking why arent you back to the lodge??" she really knows how to keep her cool, and her action and reaction are almost similar to what I expect wlliam or greer would do
next fav sar moment was when she defended bree from sel at the infirmary:
Tumblr media
sel is right in his place to suspect bree, it's his job to see the safety of the order, and he is angry af. we all know our merlin boy is scary af when angry because as russ so eloquently stated "you're never sure if it's safe to talk shit about him behind his back" and that's true anyway, but like sar really defended bree even when she did not know her, because she trusted nick's judgment and has already accepted bree as their own.
Tumblr media
i feel like this is a very important factor in all the characters, especially sar, as I'll discuss further
next, this one:
Tumblr media
she noticed bree was shaken from this encounter, because for her bree is a onceborn who had the unfortunate luck of experiencing a shadowborn attack and see so many injuries real time, while being attacked by an uchel as well. she offered to drive her home and walked her to her dorm, a girl's girl through and through. ik it seems like the barest minimum but I will still appreciate it because let's be real, everybody was stressed, who else would've offered to take bree back to her dorm safely?? nick is injured, william is busy, sel is busy trynna kill her, evan is injured, and the others are still processing the day. this small gesture seems insignificant but really shows sar's mindfulness and makes me fall for her harder and harder each time
this car ride is where we find out that she is a victim of racism as well:
Tumblr media
which creates multiple questions. she definitely knows tor is racist, and I wont be surprised if tor has herself made racist remarks on sar as well but just keeps it quiet in front of her?? sar must definitely hear tor's remarks about others, especially bree. she stays because she loves tor, as we've seen here:
Tumblr media
but there's definitely some kind of resentment towards tor that develops further in the story. how did she end up with tor anyway?? like after tor's "rebellious phase", is she really just in love and trying desperately to ignore all the red flags or is there some other story??
also her devotion to the order?? i love it. the order ain't shit, we know that, but the definite loyalty that sar has towards the order, it doesn't seem like much but I admire that grit so much. she was raised for service, but she chose to stay and serve even knowing all the risks. bree is the first of her family, but sar definitely has her own stories to be known.
again, my fav sar moment:
Tumblr media
no explanation needed lmaoo sel doubted his own demon side for a sec haha
sar keeps tor in check around bree, because she knows tor hates bree's guts, and as we see here:
Tumblr media
sar definitely calls the shots. im pretty sure that everytime tor finds something to bitch about, sar gives her the deadliest side eye ever because the kindest ones are the deadliest ones always. and whenever bree calls tor out for her behavior tor goes crying to her gf because sar is the only one who tolerates her lool
and finally, the most precious sar moment in legendborn:
Tumblr media
everyone is in love with sel because he was the first one to kneel for bree, but we are kinda forgetting that sar was the second one to kneel. she has already accepted bree as a part of legendborn, and did not hesitate to pledge her loyalty to bree. this is the most iconic sar moment I love because she is loyal to the order, to bree, and to her service.
this is what i mean when i say I love sar, there is so much story behind this one girl and I really really wanna know her. i hope she has more moments in oathbound because her loyalty is fierce and I'm pretty sure she will join alice and william too if this gang forms
bloodmarked will be discussed in pt.2 hehe I think this much is enough for today lool

2022 Reading Challenge Report
Creating this spread in my journal has become a highlight of my year. Past efforts are here: 2019, 2020, 2021. Each year I spend a little more time on my mini cover drawings and each year I'm a little happier with how they turned out.
My reading goal for the year was 100 books and I barely made it: 101. I had to really book it to reach my goal (heh, see what I did there)
Some years it's sort of hard to pick my "Best Books", but this year it was relatively easy. Eight books in particular really stood out. I could have just left it at eight, but there were two additional authors that I came across this year that I read several books by and am quite sure I will continue gobbling up their oeuvres as long as I can. (I've never in my life seen that word as a plural—can that be right?) So as a 9th pick, I just named them both: Ashley Herring Blake and Alexis Hall. I read several of Blake's books this year that would have absolutely changed my life if they'd been around when I was a kid/teen and Hall is here because literally everything he writes is fucking hilarious.

I read 101 books this year

Read 25 Books by Black Women Authors: Only read 23
I think next year I won't do the Black Women Authors challenge. I hope I will still read as many or at least a significant number of books by Black women, and I think it's a really great idea. I'm going to resist doing it this year, though, because I noticed a crummy impulse in myself as I was keeping track of the books, like I was "getting credit" for reading books in this category and that feels kinda gross. We'll see how I do without striving for a cookie.
I would like to read more picture books in 2023, and maybe be a little choosier about the graphic novels I read. I really love graphic novels, but I read some clunkers this year. I was also pretty light on nonfiction and I'd like to read a little more this year. In any case, I know it will be another great year of reading! See you next year!
