im watching Mentopolis adventuring party ep 2 and i have a theory

theory below the keep reading for those who dont want spoilers

i thin k that there is definitely some psychometor shenanigans going on in mentopolis, like somehow the mayor and the DA and the shock troops and stuff are being controlled or informed or maybe even replaced by the shit the psychometor is doing

maybe there was something in the packet thats like evidence as to maybe some testing going on unwittingly on alias hodge????? maybe theyve got some sort of brain washing mind control going on, cuz i mean the weaponization of the fix? the way conrad has been abandoned and is now trying to be killed by the DA? like maybe the stifiling of conrad early in alias's life made him like more vulnberable to it cuz conrad does seem to be the greatest opizition to "ambition" at the moment and whatever the goal is of the packet

whats a movie that impacted you a lot. either negatively, positively, knowledge-wise etc or a mix/all of those

unmm im a terrible movie-watcher in recent years especially but here are a few less-obvious standouts:

malignant 2021: made me laugh pretty much the whole way through. goofy as hell stylized horror from the mind of james wan.

the invisible man 2020: I apparently gave this one an unfavorable rating the first time I watched it but it made enough of an impression on me for me to watch it again a couple years later! aldis hodge is in it and he is so gorgeous :) also I do think oliver jackson plays abusive-stalker-boyfriend pretty well here, tho the best parts of the movie are when you can’t see him.

amreeka 2009 is abt a palestinian single mother and her teenage son immigrating to america during the US invasion of iraq. very painfully evocative for me; I rewatched it for the first time since I was a teen earlier this year and it made me cry. my beloveds hiam abbass and alia shawkat are in it <3

lords of chaos: semi-fictionalized account of the lives of the most notorious characters in the early norwegian black metal scene. enjoyable but with many caveats and content warnings. main reason I liked it is rory culkin hot (you should see some of the little outfits they put him in)

this one IS obvious but hereditary scared me more than any other horror movie I’ve watched in recent memory

4. did you discover any new authors that you loved this year?

yes, many! noor naga and natalie hodges for sure, I would read anything they write and I look forward to more from them. actually all the authors above I haven't read before. I'd like to read durba ghosh's gentlemanly terrorists too. also vernadette vicuña gonzalez, I love the subjects that she focuses on in her work, ive been in the middle of securing paradise for some time but I also read an article of hers on hawaiian quilts, commodification, and american imperialism which was incredible

13. what were your least favorite books of the year?

hmm I would say apsara engine, in: a graphic novel, and the haunting of tram car 015 - they were all ok, somewhat boring, but apsara engine is the only one i actively disliked, i was excited for a graphic anthology of queer south asian scifi but it fell flat to me, with a lot of focus on white people/white gaze

17. did any books surprise you with how good they were?

yes! definitely if an egyptian cannot speak english because it's so rich, creative, and haunting. it stayed with me in many ways, and i'm especially haunted by how violently race, class, imperialism, etc. can play out on an interpersonal level, which this book explores through love/romance. another was david vann's aquarium, it was a bit difficult for me to move through emotionally so i think i was rejecting at first but it sunk in more after i finished and stayed with me as well. it is so striking, well-written, and lays bare the day by day accumulation of life. I also found chia-chia lin's the unpassing really touching and beautiful, i think there's an innocence of it that's halting

23. what's the fastest time it took you to read a book?

probably the 2-3 days (can't quite remember) that it took me to read gayatri gopinath's impossible desires: queer diasporas and south asian public cultures, which i had to get through quickly in order to write my final paper on it lol. I probably read other books quicker, like washes, prays by noor naga or faggots & their friends, but i would consider this the fastest for how dense the book is too

25. what reading goals do you have for next year?

in terms of overall book goal, I think i'll stay with 24 books, which was my goal for this year, bc it feels reasonable and puts the right amount of pressure on me to pay attention to reading as a habit. I don't usually have other specific goals, but I'd like to keep this trend of reading more nonfiction, and i have a lot of articles saved I wanna get to. one of my goals is to maintain personal reading during the semester - even if its much slower

what made you pick up the muse you have? I've always loved Superman, though it's come and gone over the years. In 2021, Superman & Lois completely reawakened the Superman love -- that show hit exactly all the right spots for me. So I decided to pick that version of Clark up as a muse. He's since expanded to be heavily S&L inspired but more my own take on the character, based on a hodge-podge of all the different Superman media I enjoy.

is there anything you don’t like to write?  There are a few dark topics I just don't really want to touch with a ten foot pole -- alluding to them tastefully is fine, but exploring them in great detail just doesn't interest me. Otherwise, I'm open to pretty much anything, though I sometimes struggle with heavy action scenes.

is there anything you really enjoy writing? I really like getting to build deep relationships. Romantic, platonic, familial, anything -- just getting to build that up with someone. I'm also a sucker for some angst, but not just angst for angst's sake. There needs to be some light at the end of the tunnel for me to enjoy it. Hurt/comfort is glorious.

how do you come up with your headcanons?  They come into my mind at odd hours cause I'm pretty much always thinking about Clarkie.

do you write in silence or do you play music?  Usually music. Sometimes a YouTube video, but sometimes that takes up too much of my attention.

do you plan your replies or wing them? Combination.

do you enjoy shipping?  Absolutely! But I tend not to just jump into romantic shipping with anyone who comes along. There needs to be good chemistry.

Hardison and Wonder Woman

I saw an article saying that Aldis Hodge should turn his eyes to Mr. Terrific and I can’t help but thinking of an AU (which of course would lead to a different Mr. Terrific) of:

Wonder Woman was out undercover helping save people and get information in a less stable part of the world where being Wonder Woman would harm her info gathering. While gaining such info she ran into a group that was smuggling people at high risk to safety and she joined them. They got to a point where she thought they were trapped and was about to reveal herself when one of the guys got on the phone to call someone. She asked who he was calling and he started answering that’s before he heard what the person on the other side said and exclaimed TERRIFIC. The person on the other end of the phone led them to a secret exit and they got out with her cover in tact and everyone alive.

She was later introduced to the guy but before his name could be said she went up to him  and said it’s nice to meet you Mr. Terrific while shaking his hand and smiling.

She agreed to do more jobs with this group to get an understanding if they were outside the law good guys in a place the law wasn’t always good or exploiting the people they saved. After all, even if she has limitations on what she can do as a Justice League member she knows the law isn’t always just. Plus her alias doesn’t have such limitations. She kept the name Mr. Terrific as a nickname for him

After a while she saw him in the field once or twice and was impressed with how he handled himself and the tech that could just take control of things.

On one such job one of her supervillains was in the area and started to attack. He saw a way to temporarily capture them using his tech to take over certain tech in the area and make a cage so sent the rest of the group out while he did so. They left while he got to work but she stayed and made a choice. She revealed herself as Wonder Woman to him and they worked together to stop the guy.

There was a VERY interesting post op talk with the two of them after that. 

That happened a couple more times and when she was asked who she was working with she’d say Mr. Terrific.

Some stuff happened with the watchtower and she volunteered him to fix it. Hardison of course asks how he was cleared so fast and Diana reveals she put him in the Justice League files a bit after she revealed herself to him as a member.

Hardison is now fully terrified on how to explain to Parker and Eliot about how he accidentally joined the Justice League. He doesn’t know what scares him more, Eliot finding out he has been fighting supervillains or Parker and Eliot finding out he has been fighting supervillains without them.

He is allowed a room that he can call them from that makes it look like he is in normal space. He works with Diana on getting his team a “mission” to save him from space to sneak them onto the watchtower. At which time everything will be revealed. Her only ask in return is that Eliot cooks something because Hardison won’t stop comparing the food to Eliot’s and now she must know.
