Summary
I think fitz and knight would have seen themselves in each other, admired each others work ethic etc. But clashed a bit cause theyre obviously very different. About visibility (spy VS lover dilemma) and being open with their emotions and stuff. I don’t think they’re “endgame” but I think they messed around a bit and think of each other even at the end of blaseball <3 I like/prefer most of the usual lore for these guys but prefer Math as a human/humanoid rather than like, math itself, would love to see an interpretation where theyre just a latino/pinoy guy. (Just a tangent for my own interp but… braces…glasses that magnify their eyes…mathlete team jacket…still involved with Fitz but in a ‘super fascinated by the concept of a smoke fellow and follows it around everywhere’ way) I also like Reese a lot I think they’re super cool. Also what’s up with The Director? I would love to find out. Anyway, general notes: idm anything wrt pronouns, adult themes are okay, generally I really like moody/atmospheric/introspective/character study kind of fics but it’s up to you!

The Spies, at the end, consider the beginning. Written for Blasetober, day twenty-six: Desert.
“Rosales.”
Alex looks up. They barely remember to spare a smile as Donia and Howell sit down on either side of them. “Look who it is. It’s a regular reunion.”
“Sure is,” Howell agrees. He looks tired, not that Alex can blame him. Everyone’s tired lately. “How’ve you been?”
“You know,” Alex says vaguely, because they’re pretty sure it goes without saying. They’ve paid visits to Joe, to Malik, to Karato, but these are the only two who were with them at the beginning. So that means something. They’d like to think it means something. “You?”
“Happy to be in one piece,” Howell says, grimly enough that they can tell it’s not glib. Donia doesn’t answer, just inclines her head a little. “What do you think is next?”
“I’m trying not to think about next,” Alex admits. “I’m trying to think about now.”
They always are, and these two know that better than anyone else. There are people on the team who think about what’s next, who plan and plot, but Alex isn’t that person. They’re the one who figures out solutions on the fly. They fix in the moment. They do what they can to prevent things from breaking, so there’s less fixing to do.
Howell shakes his head. “Who would’ve thought,” he mumbles.
“Who would’ve thought,” Alex agrees. That they’d be on different teams. That they’d be in the desert at the end of the world, with the universe trying to scatter their minds into pieces. That they’d see the end of the world at all.
“I always hated this game,” Donia mumbles.
It’s not funny, but Alex glances at Howell, and his mouth twitches. And suddenly, that’s enough for Alex to snort and then a laugh to squeak out of Donia, and then in an instant the three of them are roaring with laughter.
(It would be nice to say it’s like old times. But it’s not. They didn’t laugh so much at the beginning. They took it all seriously. They felt like they had so much to lose. Now Alex knows how much there is to lose, a thought that comes with a sorrow so acute it winds them every time. But that has only made them laugh more. There’s so much to lose and they won’t let themself lose laughter, too.)
“Maybe you had the right idea,” Howell says after they’ve all calmed down. Donia snorts, but Howell says, “Seriously.”
“Nah,” Alex says. It surprises even them, but they hold steady. They think about Dickerson and Miki, Son and Norris, every feedback, every flood, every person they wouldn’t have met otherwise. “It might’ve been worth it.”
“Maybe,” Donia says. It’s more than Alex was expecting, so they decide to let it be.

Slyph Ancestry
Tumblr media
(Bud’s origins part1 and part2)
I sent a sample of Bud’s Oddish leaf to Slyph.co’s ancestry service to find out more about them and maybe discern were that component of their body came from or was gotten from.
Tumblr media
It is important to understand when reading this graft that the percentages listed are not a literal breakdown of Bud’s Oddish components genetics , but a listing of all the known genetic indicators(genes which are associated to exist only in a certain sub group of Oddish) they possess. So it’s entirely possible that Bud’s Oddish components may have ancestry not listed because indicators for it aren’t known.
Now the 25% Oddish Common was expected, to some degree all Oddish possess these genes ranging between 15 to 75%. So in that regard Bud is rather average.
The 37.5% Rosales, 12.5% Rubus, and 6.25% Rubus Fruticosus where very telling though. “Rosales” is and umbrella group containing over 7700 variance of Oddish (including but not limited to blackberries ,strawberries , apples , plums ,almonds, cannabis etc.) all oddish under The umbrella “Rosales” to some extent would have these indicators present in their genome. “Rubus” is a sub-category of “Rosales” containing only about 1350 variances specific to blackberries, raspberries ,dewberries and their hybrids.(this holds up A while ago Bud rooted themselves to the ground and very clearly grew a blackberry bush out of their top [here]). “Rubus Fruticosus” is a further subcategory of “Rubus” generally defined as the “breeds” created by and used in industrial agriculture. The quantity of indicators in these three groups imply to me that Bud’s Oddish components likely came from line of Oddish us in agriculture. One or more likely both of Its parents where likely farm Quality blackberry variant Oddishs. Initially I didn’t think much of 6.25% Solanaceae(an umbrella group containing tomatoes ,peppers, belladonna and etc.),6.25%Vitaceae (various grapes) ,3.125% Zea Mays(maize and corn) and 3.125% Taraxacum Officinale (dandelions). Accidental cross-pollination between crop Oddish and wild oddish is fairly common in agriculture. The presence of corn and grape Oddish gives me the impression that Bud’s Oddish components probably came from somewhere in the southwest of the Eastern continent as that is the intersection of where their cultivation is generally localized.
This has to some degree confirm My suspicion about why so many others progeny(here) have been unusual . Because of the unique stresses their body is under constantly being grafted so significantly ,it’s likely any and all progeny they produce will likely possess unusual traits. The stresses their body is under will constantly will affect their progenies epigenetic‘s(genes which control which other genes are active). Fortunately for most of them this is only meant that instead of producing more blackberry variant Oddish many of Bud’s progeny spontaneously manifested the traits of other variants in Bud’s ancestry once they matured.
But that doesn’t really explain The three Alexandria(@alex-ishvan) possess or the two in mine possession . Alexandria‘s three Radish , lumpy and turnip are very strange. Lumpy and Turnip very clearly possess traits from Bud’s other component pieces Lumpy resembling a Budew and Turnip resembling a sunkern . My best guess about turnip and lumpy is that Bud’s Budew and Sunkern components may have self pollinated them when they’re blackberry bush flowered , and that because of the stresses their body is under function similar to paternal hybrids. Radish has recently been confirmed have manifested the traits of a Atropa belladonna variant oddish (see here) but their coloration is all wrong. Atropa belladonna(see here) variant Oddish are not generally a violet blue in the Oddish stage and don’t possess stripes at all so I have no idea what’s going on with that. My best guest about radish is that their coloration may just be a mutation or that One or more pigmentation Gene is Active in a co-dominance situation.
Tumblr media
The two in my possession Verdant and Saffron are also strange in comparison to other siblings. Sunflower variants and rose variants Oddish exist but do not really resemble Verdant and Saffron in any meaningful way. Verdant’s sunflower looks so very much like the one in growing from Bud’s sunkern component and by extension very much like a (Chianti Sunflora) . Ordinary sunflower variant Oddish do not generally generate sunflowers that look as such. Also I am unable to explain the strange green coloration of their body. Saffrons flowing bushel of roses are also extremely similar to the ones growing from Bud’s Budew components. The traits possessed by Saffron’s roses are only found in the (climbing Rugosa )variant Budew-line of which there is no Oddish equivalent . Similar to the garden I am unable to explain their strange yellow coloration. My assumption is that they function similar to lumpy and turnip and are paternal hybrids
Tumblr media
I wonder what they will become as they develop Bud and their progeny, I wonder if the unique circumstances in which they were created will have continuing effects on them and their progeny and their progeny’s progeny going forward .
Hmmm… whenever I think of their circumstance I am always brought back to their origin. I wonder how many of Bud’s creators are still out there…

my friends, it is alexandria rosales’ last week on the blaseball hall of fame ballot and it is my solemn duty as a spies fan to bring you the evidence for why they should be inducted. alex is a spies icon, but they have done much more than be on our team since day 1. here are some of alex's hall of fame worthy accomplishments:
alex has the 7th highest pitching WhAT ever. this is higher than a bunch of players who have already deservedly made it in, like theodore cervantes and jolene willowtree.
alex has the 10th most pitching wins at 260.
alex has the 7th most quality pitching starts at 251.
alex has an overall ERA of 3.32 but their peaks were incredible, with a 2.0 in season 21 and a 1.98 in season 8, where they had the best ERA in the league. notice how those are two very different times in blaseball!
but alex is not just good at pitching. in season 24, teamwide scattering activated their undefined mod. in that season alex had a BA of 0.432, the second-best one-season BA in blaseball history following only dudley mueller's season 11. this is better than both jaxon buckley and conner haley's best seasons.
in season 24 alex also had the highest one-season OB/SLG ever at 1.439.
frankly these accomplishments make alex extremely qualified for the hall. however, i know what you people on blaseball tumblr also enjoy: lore. here are some bits of alex rosales lore:
sword lesbian. the sword is a cursed family heirloom. it killed some union busters once
they used to do roller derby! then almost everyone they did it with died or was shadowed. however they did it!
the spies do not have captains but alex might as well be one. a true houston icon.
has a long romantic history with a wide variety of beloved players. they had a rivalmance with jessica telephone. they had a fraught could-have-been with donia bailey. they nearly dated avila guzman. they could have dated siobhan chark but unfortunately they had given up at romance at that point
anyway they threw that cursed sword at the coin! sick!!
there are a lot of great players on the hall ballot this week and i encourage you to fill up your ten votes. gabriel griffith! lars taylor! mags banananana! but i also advise you....make one of your votes alexandria rosales
