bare feet padded down the hardwood stairs, a yawn still halfway out her mouth as fingers sluggishly taming the remnants of yesterday’s curls; dahye made a bee line to the direction of her pristine kitchen. it took her a moment to realise that the smell of coffee had already settled into the room — a strange fact considering her chef knew profusely that it was something she preferred to make herself. a scowl made it’s way upon her lips before she stomped her way towards the door that leads to the service kitchen. clink ! the unmistakable sound of ceramic being placed down upon a surface from her sitting room, and dahye whirled to face the sound with a jump. “what the fuck!” a very smug alexsander esterhazy-kohary had very obviously made himself at home on her couch. “you have got to stop doing that—” ( @alexcnder )

NHL Captains & Alternates Primer/Refresher
All teams per the NHL Rule book (Rule 6, pg 7-8) must list either One (1) Captain and Two (2) Alternate Captains or Three (3) Alternate Captains during the game line-up submissions*. There may only be Three (3) Alternates if the Captain is not in uniform or if there is no designated Captain. No Coach, Manager or Goaltenders are allowed to act as a Captain or Alternate; Goaltenders are not allowed to act as captains due to (un)intentional delay of game as per the "Durnan Rule". They must wear either a "C" or "A" about three inches (3") high and of a contrasting color in a visible spot on the front of their jerseys. Only the Captain [ or any one (1) Alternate, if the Captain is not on the ice] is allowed, if invited by a referee, to discuss interpretations of the rules**. They may not leave the bench to protest or hinder any officials in light of a call on the ice, and are subject to being given a penalty (Abuse of Officials: unsportsmanlike conduct).
Notes:
(*) Some teams have named more than the regulation two (2) or three (3) alternates and are required to rotate the designation between players. The method of choosing who gets the designation when is left to team digression.
(**) Complaints about penalties are not considered 'a discussion pertaining to the interpretations of the rules', and any skater making such complaints are subject to a minor penalty in response.

...........
📣 This is the story; Alexander the Great wrote a letter to the great philosopher Aristotle and asked: "What should I do to keep the people of the lands I conquered under my domination?" 1️⃣ Shall I send the prominent people of the country into exile? 2️⃣ Should I imprison the notables of the country? 3️⃣ Shall I put the notables of the country to the sword? The answer from Aristotle is as follows: 🔻If you send the notables of the country into exile, they will gather in exile over time and rise up against you. 🔻If you put them in jail, prisons become militant nests, they get out of control. 🔻If you put them to the sword, the next generation will grow up with the desire for revenge and after a while they will shake your throne. 👉 Aristotle gives the following advice as a solution: Sow discord among people. When they get into fights with each other, make yourself accepted as the referee. But block all the roads to a deal! 🚩 Isn't it really a meaningful story?

I'm not in any dedicated writing discords but a thing that I think about a lot when reading/writing rpf is names. How people talk to each other and how they name themselves. Especially in sports rpf, we the fans are primarily familiar with players through their last name, sometimes their first name, and occasionally a nickname. However nicknames have a 50-50 shot of being ones generated and spread by the fanbase. Everyone knows Malkin as Geno or Letang as Tanger but it threw me the first time Sully called Drew "OC" (oh-see) because his name to me is DOC (pronounced interchangeably as the vibes take me as either doc short for doctor or dee-oh-see). Chad Ruhwedel (formerly) being the only Chad on the pens team (he's not dead he's just in nyc) was Chad to me (and an inspiration to Chad's everywhere) because Chad is easier to pronounce than Ruhwedel, but I've heard Sid call him Rudey (roo-dee). I called Sam Lafferty Laugh Track but I've seen other fans call him laffey-taffey and I think that's closer to his actual nickname.
We do get access to behind the scenes and the boys aren't shy about using nicknames for each other. It's one more thing to study up on. Despite the fact that the media and the fans prefer EK, the boys decided to call Erik Karl (Carl). Reporters have written pieces about nicknames which is why we know stuff like Magnus Hellberg was Chopper on the pens, Marcus Pettersson is Dragon, Brandon Tanev earned the name Turbo, Lars Eller used Tiger, and so on and so forth.
The place I see this played with the most is with the Russians in hockey. Partially because it's Russia and as the Prologue for Great Comet the musical said "everyone has 5 different names." There’s more there to play with. A writer will almost certainly make a choice on whether they're using Evgeni, Geno, or Zhenya for Malkin, and I've seen similar decisions for Ovechkin (Ovi, Alex, Alexander, Sasha) based on the POV characters and their relationship with the characters. Sometimes the names will evolve over the course of a fic as characters get closer to each other. It tells the reader something which name the character uses for himself and which ones he prefers others use.
Now I don't have a strong opinion on what Sid calls Geno in their relationship. It gets interesting however when we enter Geno's POV and the author has to decide how Geno names himself. What name does he use in his internal monologue? Which name feels the best? Do any of them feel weird? It's funny cause I've written fic where depending on the relationship between the characters, its Tristan if its personal, Jarry if its professional, or Jars if its friendly, and depending on how Ned is thinking about him it can shift by the sentence. Is it Tanger or is it Kris? Which one conveys the right amount of closeness? Is it Letang until the relationship develops further or is that too much distance for teammates, even new ones? What about players whose nickname is a name? The last time a fic called Alex Nedeljovik "Alex" I asked myself "who?" because in my head he's Ned. In Tristan's head he might also be Ned. Does Ned think of himself as Ned or does he think of himself as Alex? Does it even matter so long as we aren't breaking immersion? Idk.
I just think that it's interesting to think about how something as simple as names can affect the vibes of a story.
#talking into the void#hrpf#fic talk#I will absolutely backspace out of a fic if the author chooses the wrong name for a player to call themsevles during their internal monolou#alas that's a vibecheck so it really is a toss up#anyway all pens examples but like I've read enough swaymark fic to notice this there too#is it linus or ully or ullmark or a pet name -- is it jeremy or jer or sway or swayman etc etc etc#you can do it with most players and it does effect the vibes of the fic if you aren't paying attention

truth be told, perhaps it was her own fault that she didn’t take her coffee up in her suite. her own fault for wanting a little change of scenery. when her own suite walls would be far more preferable than the sight of the all too familiar figure appearing across the cafe, eyes already zeroed in on her. sasha koháry had never been one to pay attention to propriety — it was one of the few things that she used to love about him. as he came closer, dahye pointedly turned her face away from him to gaze out the window. “move along, alexander. those seats are taken.” @alexcnder

The Yggdrasil Ash stands forever, not 'forever green' I think
In Völuspá, or Vǫluspǫ́, 19 we find:
Fragment of the original page from the Codex Regius manuscript.
Ask veit ek standa, heitir Yggdrasill hár baðmr, ausinn hvta auri; þaðan koma döggvar þærs í dala falla; stendr æ yfir grœnn Urðar brunni.
Prof. Ursula Dronke translated it (version 1997) as follows (which is a.o. used on Wikipedia):
An ash I know there stands, Yggdrasill is its name, a tall tree, showered with shining loam. From there come the dews that drop in the valleys. It stands forever green over Urðr's well.
Henry Adams Bellows, in 1936, translated it like this:
An ash I know, Yggdrasil its name, With water white, is the great tree wet; Thence come the dews, that fall in the dales, Green by Urth's well, does it ever grow.
James Allen Chisholm, 2005:
I know an ash that stands, called Yggdrasil, a tall tree, wet with white dews, dews dripping down into the dales. Ever green it stands over Urth’s well.
Edward Pettit, 2023:
I know a standing ash, it’s called Yggdrasill a tall tree doused with white mud from there come dews, those that fall in dales it always stands, green, above Urðr’s spring.
I think these translations originate the confusion about the tree being an evergreen. Ash is not; in fact, its leaves show relatively late in spring. And then, to solve that, jumping to "it's an evergreen because of Urðr's well".
Photo by Susanne Alexander on Unsplash.
However, when we look at a more literal translation (This one is by Dr. Marion Ingham.):
I know an ash stands, which is called Yggdrasill, a tall tree, sprinkled with white clay from there come the dews which fall in the valleys, it stands forever over the green Urðarbrunnr. (Source)
In other words “It stands forever above the green well of Urðr.”
-
Additionally, speaking as a poet myself, a tree sprinkled with white clay, for me, would be a tree covered with snow. Melting snow then easily evolves poetically into dew that 'falls' in the valleys.
Now all we need to figure out is what the green well of Urðr means ;)

[UNDER CONSTRUCTION - CAPTION COMING SOON 2 A TUMBLR DASHBOARD NEAR U]
With the Winter of 186x soon coming to a close, the settlement welcomed a new wagon train just in time for spring.
Caroline Chaires was freed by the end of the Civil War. Although her brother, Amos, had huge plans and longed to go west to make something of himself, leaving the past behind him, Caroline struggled to leave behind the place she considered to be her home: after all, it was all she had ever known, and she yearned to cling onto it as the end of the war put her life on an uncertain path. Finally, though, Amos won out, and Caroline and her brother joined a wagon train westward. Unfortunately, Amos grew ill halfway through the journey, and died of cholera a few months before their arrival in Minnesota, leaving his sister alone and stuck in a foreign place, far from her home, friends, and the parents she’d left behind.
(I just realized that I forgot to mention that Caroline is a slightly made-over version of @lilith-sims‘ Deja, so thanks to lilith for such a beautiful sim)!
Gustav Schwartz left Germany at the age of fourteen, stowing away on a ship to America in search of riches and opportunity. Despite the atrocious conditions in steerage, Gustav maintained his big heart and his relentless optimism. During the journey, he was even able to reconnect with Alexander Church, a native to St. Louis who had once worked alongside Gustav when he had first arrived in St. Louis and began to learn English. Alexander was the son of former slaves who had escaped during the war and fled to St. Louis, barely eking out a living as a railroad worker and doing odd jobs for neighbors. After several months of working together, Gustav’s relentless optimism and dreams of moving west inspired Alexander to join him on his journey. The two spent months traveling alongside one another after learning they had joined the same wagon train; Gustav gave Alexander a few tips on farming while Alexander filled in the gaps in his knowledge of English, and they soon became close friends. Now, each of them seeks to build a new life for themselves in the west of the “land of opportunity.”
Hürrem “Helen” Çağlayan was born and raised in Tétouan, Morocco, until the Spanish-Moroccan War (also called the Hispano-Moroccan War) quite literally showed up on her doorstep. The Battle of Tétouan left Hürrem to bury her father and brother, as both were killed in the fighting. However, a sympathetic Spanish soldier took a shine to her, taking her on as a servant (and, soon enough, as a wife), nicknaming her “Helen.” Without anything to keep her in Morocco, and with memories of her past haunting her at every turn, she agreed to return to Spain with her new husband, Antonio Casaviella.* Despite their rapid courtship and marriage, the two were passably happy together, and welcomed a daughter in the winter of 1861. During a visit to America to visit one of Antonio’s relatives who had immigrated there, the promise of gold and free land caught Antonio’s eye, and he urged his wife to join him. Reluctantly, Hürrem agreed, and prepared for an even longer journey after the month-long ocean voyage to the American coast. Unfortunately, both Antonio and Hürrem’s young daughter succumbed to the same outbreak of cholera that claimed the lives of several others during their journey, leaving Hürrem alone in a foreign land in which she barely spoke the language. However, it was far too late to turn back, and Antonio had sunk the last of their savings into the trip westward, leaving Hürrem both without a home to return to or the money to get there. However, she is determined to make the best of a horrific situation, grieving her husband and child while hoping to find a new, permanent place to finally call home.
*I meant to name him via a roster of Spanish soldiers who fought in Tétouan, but couldn’t find one (I could only find general news reports on the war and the battle rather than specific names, apart from this section on Wikipedia). I didn’t want to use a real name (i.e. one of the few names I could find via the list on Wikipedia) since that would feel a little weird, so I used Leopoldo O'Donnell (a Spanish general and the eventual Prime Minister of Spain)’s mother’s maternal last name (apologies if the terminology is wrong), Casaviella, and Antonio Ros de Olano, who fought in the Battle of Guad-el-Jelú, another divisive battle in the Hispano-Moroccan War. You can read more about each of them here, here (content warning: mention of brutality/torture of enslaved individuals) and here (unfortunately, I couldn’t find any other sources about Antonio in English, but there are some excellent sources listed under the Wikipedia article).
Inderjit “Ida” Kaur faced constant discrimination and eventual famine at the hands of the British during the first twenty years of her life in the Punjab region of India, and losing her mother and sister to famine in 1860 meant that she jumped at the chance to escape British persecution. She immigrated to the U.S. in late 1861. Although she had lived a somewhat-comfortable middle-class life prior, her savings had run dry by the time she reached America, throwing her headfirst into poverty. She toiled for months in a garment factory near the coast until one of her friends in the factory spread word of free land in the west. That land promised the independence she dreamed of, hopefully far away from the racism and Islamophobia which still ran rampant, and a hopefully-comfortable life through which she could gain back some of what she had lost.
James Reid is a name some of you might recognize, the son of former-slave-turned-wealthy-business-owner Matthew Reid, whose family looked after Lydia’s younger sister, Susanna Harrison, while Lydia joined the wagon train west to throw slave-catchers off her sister’s trail. After graduating from university, James Reid was sent with Susanna to ensure her safety on the journey to be reunited with her sister, but after reaching [still unnamed homestead town], he quickly got other ideas. Although he had grown up in the lap of luxury, “roughing it” a little in the Minnesotan forests didn’t seem too bad. Although his father was disappointed that he didn’t want to continue on the family business, he was relieved that Susanna and Lydia would have someone to look after them, as Matthew had grown rather fond of the girls and treated them like his own children.

If their invasion shouldn't be study then modiji should also remove aryan alexander persian specially british european invasions aadhe se zyada lord blah blah angrezo ke naam nhi yaad karne padege yaar😭 mughal courts were more than just singing and dancing...the architectures and the culture from purani dilli to agra lucknow and the rules and trading system to currency systems it was a huge part of history .... Even if they've eaten up our textbook ig one should still study the examples of how they've done it afterall it's history ....
Yaar Tu paagal hai kya?
The posts I made are against the abundance of, abundance of mughal history, not all of it. The chapters regarding their conquest, architecture etc. are still intact, (even though they too are excessive, have you read in that much detail about the trade and architechture of southern kingdoms and Rajputana? Pretty sure they had their fair share of buildings and trades aswell) unke yaha konse tarah ka mujra hota tha wo padhne mein kisi ko interest nahi hai, Anarkali thumak ke naachti thi ya jhhatak ke ye jaanna Cholas ne kaise pure south east Asia ko ek Indic Identity di, usse zyaada important hai? Nur Jahan pe Jahangir kitna fida tha ye MahaRana ke Mewar recapture se bada hai?
And fuck no, no one should have more than their fair share in history, it's not fucking okay to dedicate 80% of history books to people who did not rule 30% of your history at someone else's cost, and that too while hiding their atrocities. Their pastimes do not matter more than other ruler's actual policies. That's bootlicking, my dear anon, and no one wants to be a bootlicker.
Bro ek post to theek se padh nahi paya, mughal history badi padhi hogi🤐
