I have figured out what annoys me about dark magic in Elden ring. None of it is scary enough
Let me first elaborate what i mean with "dark magic". When i say that i just mean" magic that is against or opposite to the current status quo". Lava sorcery is dark magic, so is death sorcery, also frenzied flame spells, and black flame. Magic that is considered heretical or blasphemous.
Because elden ring has many forces trying take the lands between at once, none of them feel as antagonistic to the current order as The Dark did to the Age of Fire.
I am not calling The Dark evil or anything, Im no bootlicker. When I say that the dark was scarier, I mean that Gwyn would shit himself if he ever saw someone cast this:
Tumblr media
God he would be horrified. What is this ball pf pure fire extinguishing darkness doing here? Why is it looking at me??
Dude literally killed himself to prevent something like this from existing. It goes against everything he worked for.
Now, I honestly cant imagine any of the current heretic schools of magic scaring Marika to that extent. Probably because Marika was a girlboss that committed genocide on anything that threatened her, but anyways.
Like:
- Frenzied flame would be a good candidate, it is a threat to everything and very scary. But the lack of spells and of, frankly, influence hurts its image for me
- Rot is scary, has influence and is a threat. But two spells dont make a school of magic. Also not really dark magic if its approved by the Greater Will.
-Im sure Firegiant magic was threatening at some point lmfao.
-Death spells still largely consist of deathbird magic, which is a severely weakened group from a past age.
-Gonna be honest, Rykard didnt do a very good job with his god devouring. Aldrich at least got one. Not very threatening to the order rn.
-and finally black flame, another weakened group that used to be a threat.
Now, this all can change with the DLC
Tumblr media
If that is indeed an erdtree being choked by a deathroot tree, which some people theorised, then we have our villain to the order. Godwyn is scary, a threat, influential, and would theoretically get more spells in the dlc.
Plus itd be literally black magic, as in colored black, which i love. All the others feel to bright and colorful

The face you make when you realize Aldrich was actually just eating everyone because he wanted to save them from the incoming age of the deep and the giant flood that would inevitably follow and he was actually a based chad who saved all the orphan children first:
Tumblr media
jfhdjhgfdgf dsdfhhFDSG LISTEN UP, you say this, but
Tumblr media
Go ahead, you jerk, post that meme with a guy connecting the dots on the corkboard, I know you want to :pensive:
BUT ALSO the 'Sea' is very well an objective reality, it might even basically be the 'Nexus' through which all Soulsborne universes sorta connect! Even Elden Ring is hinting at this, with those who "failed" to truly die becoming Jellyfish spirits and Godwyn becoming marine creature in his soulless body, and Tibia Mariners! And Fishing Hamlet priest saying that all great things come from the Sea and come back to it, and there probably being a good reason for why Kos was washed to the shore, and Research Hall patients confirming that contents of the Sea were too terrifying and maddening for mere humans!
So basically, yeah, maybe very well it was time for the world to "return" to the Sea. Biblical flood reference... Fresh start for the world. However, the Sea has since been corrupted, and it WAS the filth within humanity, waste from endless burning, that polluted the Sea to the point where, apparently, "returning" to it would be a fate worse than death!
Tumblr media
Aldrich not only was mad enough to take it quite well (Micolash and Adeline approve fshhdfs), but also decided to take everyone with him kinda like Noah's Arc while adapting himself and them into something capable of living in the Deep Sea. Thriving in the horrors, even. (Adeline of the Deep when dshfhfdgfdsd)
Like I keep saying and ya'll don't listen to me that he was on some next level, and way cooler than that OOOOOOTHER big cannibal character that intended to devour the Gods and lost his objective like a looser! Aldrich did not lose shit, WE lost to HIS pace though!! "But he ENJOYED eating people and reveled in their horror :/" lmao god forbid a babygirl enjoys trying to save the humanity too much smh 🤦‍♂️

Wait, also, what do you MEAN there are implications of Aldrich having eaten Nito and Priscilla too.....?
Oh boy this is a very interesting question...
You see, it is very likely Aldrich DID get ahold of Nito... however, he probably didn't put much of a fight. Heck, I don't think it was even a fight at all. By the time of Dark Souls 3, my man has been dead for a veeeery good while. However, it doesn't mean Aldrich couldn't get to eat the scraps that remained of him and absorb some of his power this way. He doesn't seem picky, he totally eats the bones too ahahah
Priscilla, though, is very strange. It's true that Aldrich can use the Lifehunt Scythe, and from how he uses Gwyndolin's attacks we can surmise he learns new moves from devouring powerful beings (it's also why it's likely he consumed Nito's remains since he uses his Gravelord Sword)...
However, Priscilla lives banished in the Painted World of Ariamis, and seems to have been present in the Painted World of Ariandel as well. These worlds are separate from the "main" reality of Dark Souls and there doesn't seem to be proof that Aldrich went into the painting to eat Priscilla specifically. Sulyvahn DID come from there though, so who knows for sure?
Adding to this, the description of that miracle mentions Aldrich devouring Gwyndolin and getting the vision of a "young, pale girl in hiding" which I assume is Yorshka... this just seems to suggest a deep connection between Priscilla, Gwyndolin and Yorshka. It makes sense too, considering their reptilian features.
It's unclear if Priscilla is their mother or their sister, but they are undeniably similar and connected. Aldrich ate Gwyndolin, obtained a miracle that mimics Priscilla and got a vision of Yorshka... there's still a lot of room for speculation...

Been having a lot of fun dicking around with pyromancies in Dark Souls 3 lately.
For one, turns out Boulder Heave (from the soul of the Stray Demon on the Faron Keep bridge) is actually kind of good... in certain situations.
It has a short range but deals big stagger and can knock most humanoid enemies down. If its firing arc isn't interrupted (ie. if you aim off a ledge) it drops straight down after the end of its arc, which lets you hit enemies directly below you where a lock-on, bow, or thrown weapon wouldn't allow you to aim!
Recommended uses: Staggering invaders, especially heavily-armoured ones. Also chunking the Silver Knights off their perches just past Pontiff Sulyvahn's boss arena/on the way to Anor Londo. (Notably I was combining it with Spook and Hidden Body to sneak up on them, but it's probably doable if you're quick on the dodge and maybe have Sage's Ring equipped for faster casting)
Also it turns out some of the Chaos pyromancies are pretty borked against bosses.
Aldrich, Devourer of Gods really doesn't like fire damage. Chaos Bed Vestiges (transposed from the soul of the Old Demon King) does about 400dmg on a direct hit with the Witch's Ring equipped, and ~100 dmg on a glancing blow. It does cost a big chunk of FP though, so you only get a few casts at a time and have to keep yourself topped up.
If you're careful about dodging their big attacks and refilling on Ashen Estus, it just about trivializes the fight. Especially with the Sage's Ring. (I've also been testing it out on Dancer of the Boreal Valley, which seems to be promising, though at time of posting I am stopping for the day.)

I’m sure people are tired of these, but I can’t just not do this for my favorite game in the series.
Dark Souls 3 Boss List (Best to Worst)
Sister Friede and Father Ariandel: The true test of endurance. 3 full phases, all of them require you to deplete a full health bar to progress, and Blackflame Friede after two other phases? It’s a brutal ask, but I’ve never enjoyed any fight more. Plus the music is FIRE.
Dancer of the Boreal Valley: Music mentions will appear a lot in this list. Dancer takes the win for best base game boss because of the music, the ominous vibe, and how difficult she can be. It’s always a coin toss how long it takes me to clear her and yet I love it. Her weapon drop is also pretty fire despite how much everyone else tends to hate them.
Darkeater Midir: WE STAN A GOOD DRAGON FIGHT! I maintain the opinion that this is the only well designed dragon fight in Dark Souls. Elden Ring tried, and I respect it, but Midir just really is everything to me even though he kicks my ass a lot.
Slave Knight Gael: This imposing figure gives me chills and makes me feel all kinds of accomplished after I beat him.
Abyss Watchers: They remind me a lot of Lady Maria and honestly that’s enough to put them up here. Never hard per se, but it’s definitely a badass fight and the music is really freaking good here.
Demon In Pain/Demon Below: Not a lot of people talk about this one, but they should. I really like the design here. The music is a banger, but this, in my opinion, was the closest they came to Ornstein and Smough in being an amazing gank fight.
Twin Princes: I got hard stuck on these guys in my first playthrough. They have a lot of nasty attacks, but there is a rhythm you can get into if you follow their attack speed. Also, music again.
Nameless King: Before DLC, this guy was THE FIGHT. This guy was the controller destroyer. He still kind of is. Dude can bring the hammer down on people who aren’t focused. His health bar is nothing to scoff at either.
Champion Gundyr: A solid, fair fight. This fight gives me chills because the only person I can blame if I die to this man is myself. Difficulty is mid, but I really enjoy this fight every time I do it.
Aldrich, Devourer of Gods: I get scared in this room. I shouldn’t, but he moves weird and he swarm attacks you like a menace. The music is also dope because it’s an ominous take on DS1 music and I love it.
Dragonslayer Armour: The one guy in this game that surprises me every time with how much damage he does. It’s like a jump scare really. I do like him a lot, but it’s always wild to get hit for so much damage and panic heal right afterwards.
Soul of Cinder: A great end to the series and a fantastic homage to the years I spent playing this game. He also attacks like Gwyn which is really nostalgic.
Yhorm the Giant: More about the cinematics than anything. Imposing guy and you take him down with a wind sword. Great power fantasy fight.
Pontiff Sulyvahn: The only fight in this list that actively makes me nervous. This dude has a lot of health no matter how leveled I think I am and he has a way of hitting me no matter how I try to avoid him.
Iudex Gundyr: Best first boss in the Souls franchise. Not hard by any means, but definitely a wake up call.
Oceiros, the Consumed King: I’ve never understood how I can beat this dude so easy. Logically, he should be destroying me, but I regularly come out of there with a win in 1-2 tries. Weird guy.
High Lord Wolnir: The solid middle of this list. Easy as hell, but he just looks so cool.
Vordt of the Boreal Valley: Solid easy game clap. Nothing too special about this guy.
Curse-Rotted Greatwood: Tree balls. That’s all I’ve got.
Crystal Sage: Forever my benchmark for kill or be killed bosses. By no means hard, but he will hose you the fuck down with magic sometimes without warning.
Old Demon King: My kryptonite in this game. He kills me for really stupid reasons. He’s like Magma Wyrms in Elden Ring. I should not struggle with this boss and yet…
Deacons of the Deep: Good place to vent out my frustration about organized religion.
Champion and Gravetender: The dog makes this fight a hassle.
Halflight, Spear of the Church: I hate PvP. Fuck this guy.
Ancient Wyvern: Why is this here? Does this count? I really don’t think so.

Wait didn’t Aldrich get visions of the age of the deep sea after he was revived and abandoned his throne?
“ Soul of Aldrich When Aldrich ruminated on the fading of the fire, it inspired visions of a coming age of the deep sea. He knew the path would be arduous, but he had no fear. He would devour the gods himself. “ You are right, it is in his soul description! The dreaming only came once he burned.  Hawkwood also says this: “Aldrich was a right and proper cleric who developed a habit of devouring men. He ate so many that he bloated like a drowned pig then softened into sludge, so they stuck him in the Cathedral of the Deep and they made him a lord of Cinder. Not for Virtue, but for Might. Such is a lord, I suppose…" So, when I see this right, the fact that Aldrich turned into sludge was the only reason why they made him into a lord of cinder.  So the idea of them loading a truck with Aldrich and dumping him on the flame isn’t even wrong.  ....Did any of the lords of cinder in Dark Souls 3 actually link the flame without being forced too?

I first tried to play Dark Souls 1 when it first came out for PS3 almost twelve years ago. As a young teen, I was horrible with a game like Dark Souls and I soon gave up on it. Almost twelve years later, I returned to Dark Souls 1 Remastered because I saw it along with the special version of 3 were on sale for about $15 each, and my brother already had the second one. I've been wanting to give the first game another try for a while before then.
But I finally beat not only the first game, but all three Dark Souls games. I feel immensely proud of myself for finally doing it.
One day, the trials of death will begin again, and it will be in Elden Ring.

Personal recommendations for Dark Souls characters to get you started. Focusing specifically on Dark Souls 1 because I remember that game more than the other two.
Dark Sun Gwyndolin (Archer, magic user, and has snakes for legs)
Seath the scaleless (betrayed his fellow dragons, went brutally insane trying to find a way to make himself immortal.)
Crossbreed Priscilla: Large woman, half dragon (Seath’s daughter), wields a scythe, and can go invisible (she’s also been trapped in a painted world for eons by herself, so more than likely she’s very lonely… wink wink)
Capra Demon: Strong enough to wield two slabs of metal at once. Clearly does not take “no” for an answer
Dark Dragon Kalameet: Big dragon with telekinetic powers.
Chaos Witch Quelaag: Giant fire spider lady who just wants her sick sister to get better, and will happily kill anyone who interferes with that.
Other quick recommendations from across the series: Knight Ornstein, Sister Friede, The Pursuer (literally a stalker), Flexile Sentry, Mytha the Baneful Queen (Lore says she gives good head), Demon of Song, Nashandra (She has two forms, both are hot), Dancer & Vordt of the Boreal Valley, High Lord Wolnir (Lord of the bone-zone), Pontiff Sulyvahn, Aldrich Devourer of Gods, and the Twin Princes.
The Dark Souls series has lots of beings who are giant people, and even monsters. Sorry, I hope you don’t mind, I just love the series so much I can’t help but gush.
Tawney: Gush all you want! I love learning about new monsters.
Gwyndolin: If he wants to have sex with you, tell him to take the mask off. I’m more worried about someone getting poked with it than the snakes.
Seath: Technically not a scalie.
Priscilla: Well, the family’s open to monster-human relations, so that’s good?
Capra Demon: I am lowering my leggings as we speak.
Kalameet: If he wants to procreate, then would I still give live birth or would he make me lay eggs? 🤔
Quelaag: She actually has a good reason to be nude.
Ornstein: Probably a loaded furry who commissioned that armor.
Sister Friede: Are nun kinks as common as priest kinks?
Pursuer: He must be a damn good one with that heavy looking armor.
Sentry: Think of all the hugs, aw.
Mytha: Yeah, I can see that.
Demon of Song: Something, something, “frog in your throat.”
Nashandra: Having a traditionally pretty form and a macabre form will make you popular here. XD
Dancer: But does she give lap dances?
Vordt: “A former Outrider Knight of the Boreal Valley who has degraded into a feral beast.”
Wolnir: He can take me to the Bone Zone.
Pontiff Sulyvahn: Pontiff? He is the Pope of Tall People.
Aldrich: So… a blob monster that disguises himself as a pretty boy? Yeah, I’ll go for that.
Twin Princes: Are way prettier than I am. :(

I had a really fun dream tonight! The most fun I've had in a while!
It started out strange already, with Aldrich of all people reaching Gwyn from when he was still alive and shining brightly, through time and space from somewhere in the darkness. I remember he was sorta lulling Gwyn, who was terrified, into losing focus by convincing him he was sleeping and it was a bad dream. I suppose time is a very vague mater, so why not? Still, it is kind of funny how Gwyn's child apparently wasn't enough and he came for the father 😔 I recall Aldrich only taking a bite, and it's understandable, I'd think Gwyn's whole soul is way too much to digest for anyone
Again, transition into 'actual' dream happened afterwards! And honestly, it was a very large place. So bright, so.. alive? It was full of many life forms, everything was so awake and always moving, so full in a good way, not in a 'chaos and noise' way. Many kinds of architecture everywhere too, in some places melting together with even a few modern buildings blend in somewhere. Again, time is a strange matter I guess! But another interesting bit was knights battling dragons, or what was remains of dragons kind? Despite the battling it all felt like prosperity, like life just began for everyone. Just so many living creatures and forms everywhere. In the dream I was not understanding it, but after waking up as I remember more details, it starts to feel like mostly memories of Gwyn himself. Not a new type of a dream for me, as I previously dreamed about what Gwyndolin and, strangely, Laurence, experienced after being devoured by Aldrich: they'd be brought back in their brightest memory like in a good dream, living it once more, before it started to show 'cracks' and get flooded by water and darkness, more and more..
This time was a bit different, though. No moment where everything floods, drows and collapses, but instead a lot of traces of flood and water on the ground here and there, and the brightest, the warmest day shining. Like you know, how after a long periods of rains and floods ends, the sun is even brighter and the warmth is even warmer because of all the water drying? It was a lot like this. And I've found Aldrich in this dream, in person... like his real self again; in my dreams it is a very particular image of a chubby black-haired man, always the same. Just maybe a bit too pale skin for a normal human. He was constantly residing in a pond, refusing to come out.. Seemed somewhat relaxed, but he pointed out that things will be "normal" again, and he was just waiting for that "night time" here. Even just a piece of Gwyn's soul was very strong, fighting for dominance on instinct even, but apparently the light would go out in a couple of days, according to Aldrich. Damn, dude has no sense of wonder at ALL it seems xD Full disrespect to him for skipping the season event pass and sticking to his comfort zone gjhgfjhjj I guess he IS a big fan of stagnation, after all. 🙄
Still, I feel so happy and full after this dream? It was beautiful and fun! Also while processing it after waking up I had a silly crossover idea of Rom and Godwyn meeting him like this too as they're also connected with the 'Sea' for an unhappy reason. They could be also recovered again, just with some former traces like Godwyn having scales and third eye still or Rom's tails.. They could actually be cheerful here and drag Aldrich's lazy ass around to actually enjoy the 'event' before everything fades back into darkness and water. And Godwyn of course would try to chill people on dragons battling stuff and negotiate xD Really love this kind of dreams, and thoughts.

✨✨ for any OC you feel like? (@allhailknifeprincess)
Send me ✨ for a random thing about one of my OCs! (Optional: You can specify one!)
✨ As mentioned in my previous ask about Llito Loc where their skullmask is fused to their face, that's for a good reason! Without the additional aid from it, Llito Loc would struggle to shapeshift, let alone hold their draconic forme together. They also wouldn't be able to speak, think, or do anything really.
Tumblr media
This is because only the literal skull of Llito Loc's true forme exists, with the skull itself being too weak to allow Llito Loc to transform past a writhing pile of goop, so the skullmask helps with that!
The skullmask can be removed with enough force/magic (which is an impressive feat itself) but it most certainly won't end well with you when Llito Loc catches up to you as even though they can no longer hold a forme, they can move scary fast in goop forme and are incredibly dangerous if they touch you, devouring limbs and body parts in seconds.
Tumblr media
✨ Truthfully, I've never been able to decide if Aldrich and Sage and siblings by blood or by bond because I just don't know what I vibe with most for them.
If you asked them about their relations to one another, they would just say "That's my sister/sibling. I have known them all my life" and pretty much leave it at that. I also haven't been able to decide if they're twins or not, but I do know Aldrich is the older of the pair.
Personally, though, I don't mind a little bit of ambiguity over this since the only thing that really matters is they're siblings and they care about one another very much :>

Gwyndolin (I see you call him ‘Other Gwyndolin’, how creative) pushed me to the front through what I can only describe as a mental game of hot potato that poor Lothric got himself caught up in too so I suppose it’s time to talk directly. Let me begin with this; I didn’t devour any gods. What I did to Gwyndolin was a light nibble. Apparently it tickled. Secondly, I miss being doted on. The good Pontiff made sure I was waited on hand and foot while I was still novel to him, but of course it was unsustainable. I will admit that I can be demanding, but in my shoes you would be too. The Cathedral was hardly warm and after spending so long there it was inevitable that the biting cold would become a part of me. Residents of Anor Londo I implore you to relinquish your blankets and tea to me. ~ Aldrich (#🔱🌙🔮, tag as fictive)
