Aiden liked starlight lakes.

Few things could compare to their beauty, with the reflections of a million stars shining on the water surface at night and their glow still lingering there even at day time.

They were peaceful, too, something Aiden had learned to appreciate. It wasn’t like he didn’t enjoy spending time at court with his family and friends, but the place was always so busy that sometimes Aiden needed some alone time.

By day, he rarely got it. There were always people around and things to do. Again, not that he minded. He’d take it over being lonely again any day, even if it could be a little overwhelming sometimes.

Even at night he wasn’t alone, which made it hard to sneak out even then, with his boyfriend’s arms always wrapped tightly around him.

This night, however, Aiden had managed to slip away, gently freeing himself of the secure grip around him to go for a little midnight swim.

Neither Talon nor Aiden’s brother would be all too thrilled to know Aiden was out at night, alone nonetheless. But this was exactly what Aiden needed right now.

Swimming had been something he always adored, back in his hometown. Whether it was splashing around at daytime with his brother, swimming on his own at night or secretly skinny-dipping with Theo that one time.

The lake in his hometown could in no way compare to the beauty of this starlight lake, though. Aiden found himself marveling at its beauty, still after the many times he’s seen it and others of its kind. He enjoyed swimming in it even more.

Aiden scooped a little bit of water in his hands as if to drink from it and admired the mini version of the constellation above his head reflected in the water. Like many times before, childlike wonder struck him at the reminder that what he held in his hands were reflections of the stars. The real, actual stars. It was truly magical.

Starlight lakes, Aiden had decided, were his favorite thing about the faerie realm.

Suddenly, he felt someone sliding their arms around him from behind and for a moment he froze in surprise.

“Found you,” a voice whispered close to his ear, before placing a kiss on the sensitive skin behind it.

Aiden instantly relaxed. He smiled to himself. “Talon.”

Okay, maybe starlight lakes were his second favorite thing about the faerie realm.

Talon kissed the side of Aiden’s neck, like trying to kiss the stars from his skin and Aiden tilted his head to the side to give him better access. He sighed.

“You didn’t have to come looking for me, you know?”

Talon hummed, the feeling of it against his skin making Aiden shiver. “But I am always looking for you,” he said with a muffled voice, his face still buried in Aiden’s neck. “And I always find you. Sooner or later.”

Aiden turned around to face Talon, putting his arms around the other’s neck. He looked at him, admiring how pretty his boyfriend looked in the moonlight, hair still messy from sleep and skin glistening with the reflection of stars, much like Aiden’s own. “That you do. And I’m grateful for it.”

It was true. Aiden was grateful. He’s waited for Talon to come around and find him. It took them a while, but Aiden found that Talon was more than worth the wait.

Once they’ve first found their way to each other, they always kept coming back around. Aiden wasn’t planning on ever letting to, on ever stopping to wait for Talon to find him.

He was glad it was him. Back then, now and for all eternity.

He kissed him, slow and sweet, trying to put all those feelings that he was never quite able to put into words into this gesture instead.

Talon’s grip around his waist tightened as Aiden pulled him impossibly closer, till they were all but chest to chest. The kiss deepened and Aiden reached out to bury a hand in blonde locks, like he had many times before and would hopefully do many times after.

Aiden could’ve done this for all eternity. Being close to him, feeling his hands all over him, sharing this kiss surrounded by thousands of stars. So he kept kissing him till it stole both their breaths, breaking apart for air only for seconds before diving back in.

After a while though, Aiden felt tiredness slowly wash over him. After all, it was already pretty late. He broke the kiss, leaning his head against Talon’s shoulder and pulling his legs around the boy’s torso, just letting him hold him.

“Tired, ma ghir’nan?” Talon asked, kissing the crown of Aiden’s hair.

Aiden smiled at the nickname. He nodded, hair brushing against Talon’s neck.

Talon chuckled. “Let’s get you back to bed, then.” Gently he guided Aiden out of the water, helped to dry him off and carried him to bed, ever the dutiful guard and boyfriend.

He tugged him in and held him close and Aiden let out a sigh, feeling content. Truly, this was all worth the wait, he thought before drifting off to sleep in his lover’s embrace.

Yes, he liked starlight lakes, but he liked Talon even more.

Quick Newsflash

After much blood sweat and tears, the Jazz Hands half of our operations has got Sims 3 finally working again.

What was crucial was the Lazy Duchess Alder Lake patch (or whatever it's called).

Now for the plot twist.

Your humble narrator is using a desktop which is using the same processor, an Intel i9-14900KF, as the one that has just about reduced the other half to tears trying to get to work. Yet only they had to use the Lazy Duchess patch to get the game to work. Figure that one out.

Other half is now about to enter the following phrase of switching from a Windows 10 compliant laptop to a Windows 11 compliant laptop to run Sims 3 on ...

Doodling Cat Designs - Alderheart

We're back at it again with more FireFam designs.

For those unfamiliar with the goings on of the Banished Fireheart AU, Alderheart and Sparkpelt are Firestar's children, rather than his grandchildren as they are canonically. Firestar and Sandstorm have a total of five biological children across two litters, with their first litter consisting of Squirrelflight, Leafpool, and Gorsetail (OC). Their second litter consists of Alderheart and Sparkpelt.

I've made the decision to start releasing more content for this AU overall, though this may take some time, so if anyone is actually interested in this AU they can look forward to that. I am looking forward to delving further into the Alderheart lore of this AU, with emphasis on his relationship with Firestar, who serves as prevalent mentor figure to the young tom and helps him to overcome a lot of his inner struggles.

Saskia Alders came from a long line of wolves with deep roots in Lunar Cove. Headstrong and driven, she’d pushed her way into the role of Alpha like several other Alders before her. Nico’s father, Aurelio Castillo Silva, was by contrast a mild-mannered history student, who fled the dangers of the wider world after he’d been turned. Saskia was unimpressed with him initially, but let him stay, and against all odds and all their differences, the two grew on each other. Whenever she was particularly angry, someone would run to the library where he worked, and get Aurelio to come talk her down. Eventually, he graduated from being something of a wallflower to a valued member of the pack, and by that time, he and Saskia were inseparable. The pair married, settled together in an old house in Echo Acres, and less than a year later, Nicolás was born.

As the product of such a wild pair, Nico Castillo Alders got his mother’s daring nature, tempered with his father’s composure under pressure. There were worse traits he could’ve inherited, all told. Saskia impressed on Nico that if he proved himself, he could be the next Alpha, fierce enough to protect them from annihilation. And he did his best with all of that. But sometimes his energetic nature and curiosity about the other inhabitants of the town got the better of him. More than once his parents had to disperse to search for him frantically only to find young Nico wide-eyed as the banshees at Good Omens told him ghost stories, or chattering with the nail techs at the salon. Being the son of an Alpha may have led to a false sense of confidence and security for a while.

But the golden days of his carefree childhood came to an abrupt and horrifying end. A disgruntled pack member challenged Saskia’s leadership and when he lost, he lashed out where he knew it would hurt her and the pack the worst—he murdered Aurelio Castillo. Nico’s world shattered, along with his mother’s.

Saskia’s rage was colder and deadlier than the deepest trenches of the Atlantic. She piled her shell-shocked son into her truck, and they took off that night. When they returned two days later, Saskia curtly informed everyone that they’d handled it and marched into the lodge. Fourteen-year-old Nico stood there, shaking, and it wasn’t long before the pack realized his curse had been triggered. He was now a full Beta.

Revenge wasn’t enough to bring about peace. Saskia had changed fundamentally, her strict protectiveness devolved into something closer to paranoia. And she came down on Nico harder than ever before. The pressure on him to be strong, to do everything he could to grow into the person who might take over as Alpha one day, began to grate on him. He was being shaped into something he didn't want to be, and began to rebel. He’d often slip out from home in the night, searching out experiences that he wanted for himself.

By his mid-twenties, he’d mostly distanced himself from Saskia. He moved in with some friends from high school just to avoid her, and trained as a paramedic, working to aid all the species around town when they needed it. Despite the coldness between mother and son, he was still largely respected by the pack. Until a werewolf he’d been hanging out with, one with no pack affiliation, was caught trying to steal from their home. Nico came to the wolf’s defense, but Saskia was intractable. They had one last argument, in front of the entire pack—full 12 rounds, no decision. That night Nico left town along with the would-be thief, turning his back on everyone and everything he'd ever known.

A few wolves close to their Alpha were aware that Nico was never fully abjured. Most people knew better than to question Saskia about it. The silence between her and her son stretched year after year, until it was too late for any hope of reconciliation. She was found murdered in the winter of 2022. Her second-in-command sent word to Nico and asked him to come back to town. They were expected to step in to fill the role themselves, but it had been years since they’d had to fight anyone to prove their strength, and had doubts about their ability to win. Knowing Nico would be reluctant to return, they offered him a deal, privately—they would do their best to run things for six moons, but if in that time no suitable leader had come forward, Nico would come home to keep the pack safe. Months passed, and no one reached for the title, perhaps afraid they would meet the same fate as Saskia Alders, perhaps out of respect for the second. Saskia’s advisor held up their end of the bargain, so Nico means to honor his.

There was very little contest between him and the second. The pack has recognized as Alpha for now, but who knows how long that will hold—Nico himself doesn’t have very lofty expectations. The respect his mother gained over decades of firm leadership could work in his favor, or it could show him to be a pale reflection of her, unfit to carry the legacy. His personal ideals could also prove his undoing. Nico still believes that all creatures are worthy of compassion, not just pack members, and hates the way the wolves rank themselves. He believes it needs to change, but with all the turmoil now, he doesn’t know if anyone will take the chance at further instability in the pack. Maybe he’ll manage to shake things up—provided he isn’t overthrown or murdered in the process.
