I hope to god this theory is true because it would be so so funny. Imagine these two getting into a proper fight over who gets to be the older brother: Subaru (born first) or Aldebaran (20 years older). Imagine them forcing people to take SIDES.

Some notes:

Julius has no idea why this is even an argument. Aldebaran is clearly older than Subaru.

Emilia is in the same boat as Julius. Subaru is heartbroken.

Rem thinks this is ridiculous for much the same reason.

Ram is saying whatever would piss off Subaru most.

Ferris is in the same ship as Ram here.

Heinkel believes Aldebaran is older and therefore the older brother. This says wonderful things about his feelings about him and his wife (currently 20 years younger due to the Sleeping Beauty Disease).

Otto cannot conceptualize a world in which Subaru is Aldebaran’s older brother.

Beatrice is on Subaru’s side no matter what.

Garfiel refuses to even consider the idea that Captain is NOT the older brother.

Wilhelm refuses to deny Subaru his birthright as Aldebaran’s older brother.

Reinhard feels a lot like Wilhelm. Also — his mom has been in a coma for years, and is now even younger than he is, but — she’s still Mom, right?

Frederica feels similarly to Wilhelm in that older siblinghood is a birthright.

Petra is taking Subaru’s side, no questions asked.

Orion toward the lower left. Up and to the right the sort of wedge of stars is part of the constellation Taurus—the brightest star in that is Aldebaran, then up and to the right of that the little clump of stars is the Pleaides. And the bright one even further right than that is Jupiter. And that’s the very peak of my house at the bottom.

Sunlight on the Water really made me interested in the implied relationship between Al and Satella.

I had to do something with that (even though I did this like over half a year ago now 😭)

The Potential Connections between Aldebaran and Roswaal.

I'm probably way overthinking this (this was a literal showerthought), but there's a suspiciously high amount of similarities between Roswaal and Al I havent seen anyone talk about:

Both are students of Echidna, who refer to her as Sensei.

Priscilla, who's seen Al's face, calls him a jester.

In a side story, we learn the name of the first Roswaal body. His name? Altair. Which, much like Aldebaran, can be shortened to... Al.

Al seems proficient in several types of magic, much like Roswaal.

Arc 9 seems to be focusing on Al. Chapter 1 not only has a big focus on Roswaal, it also includes this suspicious conversation:

Roswaal: […That would certainly be troooubling~. You seem to be much more loved than I am.] Petra: […When you say that I am loved, by what exactly?] Roswaal: [Something that I’ve resolved myself to resist, yet have never been able to prevail against, a peculiar power of that sort.]

Notably, on the latest chapter, the battle between Al and Reinhardt is described as "a confrontation irreconcilable, between one whom the world loved, and one whom it did not". It's a fair guess that the one most unloved in question is Al. If so, it's posible that power Roswaal was talking about was the world itself.

Roswaal wants to kill Volcanica. Al in these latest chapters has taken control of said dragon, and his blade is named after the dragon

I admit, nothing of this is super-conclusive. I don't even have any concrete theories. I just think these similarities are very interesting.

Okay so, I was paying attention to what Al calls Subaru, specifically — Japanese and English aren’t perfect reflections of one another, so I wanted to know — and he always calls Subaru “kyoudai.”

I looked up this term specifically to see what it actually means, and—

Not only does it specifically mean “sibling.” It’s also somewhat gender neutral (only leaning male as opposed to being male exclusive), which is — a bit of a theme with Subaru, specifically, considering the amount of emphasis about his name “Natsuki Subaru” being androgynous.

…Huh.
