"So," Scar said, turning his attention to Grian.  "Old fashioned?"  Scar looked Grian up and down with an expression Grian couldn't quite read. "I wouldn't have clocked you as the bourbon type.  You seem more like a tequila kinda guy."

Grian smirked and made eye contact that was critical to his goal.  "How'd you know?"  He placed down another bet, larger than the last, for the next game.  He kept a chip in his hand, fidgeting with it to quell his nervousness that he might have just been caught putting on an act.

"I do more than deal cards you know," Scar answered, ironic as he said so while dealing cards.  "Half my job is reading people."

"Oh?"  Grian looked down at his cards.  Seven and five.  Twelve was low enough to hit, but was it worth doubling down?  The dealers card was a jack.  Take risks but don't be reckless, he silently reminded himself and tapped the table, noticing that the green haired hipster did the same.

"So why order an old fashioned when you'd rather have a Paloma?"  

Grian shrugged.  "New town, new bar, new job, figured I'd, as you'd say in your line of work, double down." Grian waggled his eyebrows and watched a slow smile spread across Scar's face.  

"I think I like you." Scar glanced down and his smile waned.  "Too bad for that hand, though."

"Hm?" Grian looked down and realized he'd been to caught up with Scar that he hadn’t noticed he'd already been hit.

Ten, making his hand twenty two.  Bust.

Also my friends were using vanilla extract to get drunk in 2005, almost twenty years ago, and my mom says she and her friends were doing so back in the 1970s. This is something teens have been doing as long as there have been laws against teens buying alchohol. Sure, it's dangerous, as all teen drinking is, especially if the teens in question don't have a clear idea of exactly how much alcohol is in the vanilla extract, but I would argue that it's probably less dangerous than most teen drinking, because vanilla extract is actually phenomenally expensive compared to most other forms of alchohol teens try to get their hands on, which tends to lead to smaller amounts consumed.

Like, this isn't good or safe, but it's also been going on for over half a century. It's not Tumblr's fault, and not worthy of a moral panic.
