Overgrown Thistles: Mosskit Lives AU

bluefurs journey to riverclan went differently. she got mistykit and stonekit to oakheart as in canon, but mosskit was too cold to continue the journey. shes forced to turn back, bringing mosskit along with her.

bluefur loses deputyship to thistleclaw, with the vicious warrior immediately setting his sights on getting sunstar out of the way. he cares very little about his son whitekit, so bluefur takes care of him when snowfur is killed (same way as in canon)

mosskit grows up with tigerstar and redtails generation. theyre all one large group, some younger and some older but all still sharing the nursery at some point. mosskit is best friends with the spottedred twins, but begins to drift from them as their apprenticehood starts. mosspaws mentor is rosetail, redpaw and spottedpaws mother here.

whitepaw, as a sort of pity gesture, is apprenticed to auntie bluefur. this saves him from the fate tigerpaw faces, doomed to become just another thistleclaw.

spottedpaw is a medic apprentice from the start. shes excellent with all matters related to starclan and naturally gifted in medicine, so shes the perfect fit. thistleclaw does not groom her romantically. instead, he intimidates her into warping her omens in his favor, turning to emotional manipulation as she grows older and more defiant.

not long before they become warriors, sunstar is found dead on riverclans border. its not known at the time but thistleclaw killed him. thus, thistlestar takes power. bluefur and rosetail flee thunderclan to live with pinestar, and thrushpelt stays behind to monitor his half brother and ensure mosspaw and whitepaws safety.

mosskit is named mossfall, as a jab at their mother.

the fire alone prophecy was broken when thistleclaw became deputy. there is no fated hero, and rusty would likely be killed if he entered the forest. instead, theres an underground faction of cats aiming to depose thistlestar and his lackeys. tigerclaw is named his deputy despite having had no apprentice. their reign is bloody and horrific, helping brokenstar drive out windclan and leaving riverclan the only ones who could stand against the allied clans.

its mossfall who takes the mantle of leader for this uprising. they create a secret camp on the farthest outskirts of windclan territory, bringing in revolutionaries and refugees alike. they stumble across yellowfang, who becomes their acting medic and defacto leader when mossfall cant be there. the clan cats of this uprising only visit when its safest, often in the dead of night.

they eventually gain the numbers and the safety to find windclan. starved and miserable yet still clinging to life due to the rescue, they pretty quickly join forces with the uprising. they make improvements to the camp and teach its permanent residents how to hunt on the moors.

meanwhile in thunderclan, mossfall struggles to know who they can trust. the spottedred twins, whitestorm and the rest of the medics are steadfast allies to them, but more and more cats seem to be executed for so called treason as thistlestars followers rally around him. the newest generation of apprentices worries them the most, and thus she urges spottedleaf to take ravenpaw as an apprentice. they saw what happened with longtail and the rest of his generation. it cant be allowed to happen again.

all too soon, thistlestar discovers spottedleafs betrayal. shes made an example, killed in front of the whole clan as a massive turning point in the arc. spottedleaf dies smiling, knowing thistlestar will soon meet his end.

goosefeather and featherwhisker flee the clan, leaving it with young ravenpaw as its only medic. thistlestar gives him the name ravenspot, yet another jab at a cat who opposed him. in the middle of the night one night, mossfall and featherwhisker sneak him out to give him a true medics name. hes titled ravensoar, for the light he provides to the ever dwindling hope in thunderclan.

as the arc goes on, brokenstar and thistleclaw butt heads more and more. thistleclaw is deeply xenophobic, only caring to use then control his allies. brokenstar doesnt take kindly to this, and the two have a brawl that escalates to all out war between the two clans. brokenstar comes out blinded and stripped of his title, and thistlestar gains control of shadowclan and puts tigerstar on its throne. brokenstar is eventually murdered by runningnose as an act of revenge for what he did. justice for yellowfang

barley barn barley barn!!! ravensoar visits often, and sasha eventually lives there too. polycule. yay

graysilver is a terrible idea in this climate. so it happens. mossfall repeatedly tells graystripe its a terrible idea, but the two are so besotted with each other that they believe their love will fix everything and restore peace. they learn the hard way that that isnt the case, with silverstream being attacked shortly after kitting and only surviving due to the sudden appearance of mistyfoot and stonefur. silverstream and graystripe are uprising members, with silverstream being extremely active and outspoken. riverclan eventually splits in two, with leopardfur and co siding with thistleclaw and the rest siding with silverstream and the uprising. the bonehill incident does still happen, just when all involved are taken captive in shadowclan camp.

hawk, moth, and tad are not sasha babies. theyre tigerstar/tangleburr offspring. tigerstars reign in shadowclan is just as bad as his mentors, allowing no tolerance for weakness, kindness, or emotion. he attempts several times to kill runningnose, but the sickly cat is far stronger than expected. tigerstar is still the one to imprison half clan cats and create the bonepile, all of his own volition. he took his children with him when leaving thunderclan, keeping a close eye on them snd trying to mould them into what he became (it fails with tawnypelt. brambleclaw tries to denounce him, but some things seem to stick a little too well)

the thunder-shadow megaclan is named lionclan. the uprising is leopardclan, and the leopardfurs riverclan offshoot is tigerclan. silverstreams riverclan is just riverclan.

thats kinda it for now. i want bloodclan and riverclan to ally with the uprising in the final battle, and for them to win despite the odds. bloodclan and riverclan are rather small, after all. mossfall/redtail happens. spottedleaf haunts the narrative. sandstorm is also an uprising ally and dustpelt eventually turns like in canon. might have longtail get recruited as a spy after swiftpaws death makes him fully realize how fucked thistlestar and tigerstar are.

I really like the idea of Dark Forest cats looking like weird scary monsters. Anyway. I think Hawkfrost would have creepy human like eyes, devoid of their previous blue (though the highlights in his eyes are blue, don't ask how).

Hawkfrost is mostly in shadow, the only thing you can see are his eyes and, when he opens his mouth, his fangs. If you touch him, you feel cold. Colder than you would in the dead of the worst winter.

He lures his victims in via manipulation. If you're Brambleclaw, he prays on your insecurities and brotherly loyalty. If you join him he will rid you of all your imperfections and let you be free. Be perfect. Right when you agree, when your guard is down, he kills you. Your soul is now stuck in the Dark Forest, forever wondering and transforming into another monster.
