A new bill would give the Alberta government more power over municipalities, including granting cabinet the power to remove councillors from office, and forcing councils to repeal bylaws the province doesn't like.
Bill 20, the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment, was tabled in the legislature Thursday afternoon.

Slowly the Canadians are realizing just how terrible the Calgary Arena deal will be for them
Two months ago, it was announced that the city of Calgary and the Calgary Flames, their NHL team, had come to an agreement to build a new arena for just the low, low price of $1.22 billion. This comes after last year’s failed arena deal where the Flames decided to pull out of the deal when the city told them that they would need to help pay for additional infrastructure costs. There are three…

Reactions to Rogers-Shaw deal mixed in Alberta
Reaction to the $26 billion Rogers-Shaw merger in Alberta was mixed on the day it was announced. Bob Schulz, a professor at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business, called the merger a “win-win.” “It’s a blockbuster deal for Canada, but it could be the rising (rural telecommunications) star for the world in the developing countries that we actually test here,” Schulz said…

Three Métis groups signed a deal Friday with the federal government that recognizes them as Indigenous governments, putting them on equal constitutional standing with First Nations and opening the door to further negotiations such as compensation for land lost.
“For over 90 years, that has always been the dream — that proper recognition of a Métis government,” said Audrey Poitras, president of the Métis Nation of Alberta.
Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Marc Miller also signed the deal with the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan and Métis Nation of Ontario.
“We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the Métis Nation of Alberta to co-develop approaches that deliver on our shared priorities for reconciliation and support their vision of a better future for the citizens and communities the Métis government represents,” Miller said in a release. hahahahahaha I hate it here.
Danielle Smith: I don’t want young kids to permanently change their bodies!
Danielle Smith: So they won’t be allowed to use puberty blockers, the effects of which are basically entirely reversible, until they’re fifteen, which is well into puberty and often towards the end of puberty for AFAB kids!
Danielle Smith: this makes sense and I am so smart! This will not have the effect of making trans youth even more vulnerable than they already are and that definitely wasn’t my intention.

The funniest thing on Wikipedia is the timeline for the legalization of gay marriage, because the rest of the world is coloured in terms of individual countries but North America has separate dates for every Canadian province, US State, and Mexican State.

Ms Smith: Now, let me just say a word about our postsecondary institutions. Ottawa’s priorities are not Alberta’s priorities. Alberta has been funding targeted enrolment expansion based on Alberta’s labour market in order to ensure industry and job creators have the skilled and professional workers that they need. In fact, the Minister of Advanced Education just announced a major expansion in supporting NAIT that will enable them to train 4,200 more new apprentices. That is the approach that we need to take in Alberta. We have massive new projects that are going to need to be built, not the least of which being a Dow Chemical petrochemical plant, which is going to be 6,000 to 8,000 workers that are needed there, plus all of the new workers that we’re going to need to be able to keep up with our housing requirements. This is the priority that we have.

If you live in Alberta and are under 18, this is your warning: Danielle Smith is implementing her new anti-trans legislation this year.
The most important part of this is this: Your parents will be notified if you ask to change your name or pronouns, and you will need consent to do so if you are under 16.
There's a few other stuff in there, including restricted medical transitions and trans women in sports, but this will directly affect the youth.
This link will lead you to a website that will let you submit an email to her, and I encourage you to do so. The more clogged up her inbox is, the less she'll be able to just delete them and move on.
Stay safe y'all, and be careful. The Conservative party has a huge grip on Alberta right now.
Oh, and the most important part: Go fuck the government

so there was a massive wait list on Kate Beaton’s Ducks when it finally got picked up by the library and sadly when my hold came in i was trapped in BC and had to cancel it
luckily quatsch’s hold came in and she has brought it for me and i’m like. only a short way in and i had to just stop on the page that introduces fort mcmurray because its like. i’ve never been and yet all the panels are just like Extremely descriptive of the background radiation of my life, the sorts of things that i myself would actually avoid drawing because it just feels Too Mundane to me and looking at that spread just had me like. oh. oh yeah. that’s what i need to be doing. more people have to document [vague gestures] whatever this is.

“ ... Never mind that Premier Smith said out loud she had been speaking with her officials “almost weekly” about a political ally facing criminal charges stemming from his role in the Coutts blockade last year.
Consider the news release published by the government last Tuesday in the wake of that Monday’s embarrassing news conference at which Premier Smith refused repeatedly to answer media questions about her simpatico tête-à-tête with pastor Artur Pawlowski. ...”

Been listening to the behind the bastards eps on Henry Kissinger because I always hear about this man being a trash bag on fire but uh. I mean this guy is a HUGE trash bag on fire wtf I'm not even halfway through the series and Kissinger has committed treason AND extended the Vietnam war, resulting in MILLIONS more dying. Like what the fuck. What the fuck. America y'all are being held hostage by literally the worst people ever y'all need to like. Call the French and see if their revolution stuff can help you out. Like the french arent working in an American context which is why they can do what they do but also damn at least ask em to bring a guillotine or somethin ☠️☠️☠️ Reverse American revolution. Or american revolution two electric boogalo, the sequel wherein America fights America instead of Britain which feels VERY American lmao. Time honored tradition of not trusting America with America 😂😂
