In 1894, the renowned experimental physicist Albert Michelson remarked that "most of the grand underlying principles have been firmly established" and he quoted an "eminent scientist" – most believe it was the British physicist Lord Kelvin – as saying that all that remained were details of determining some numbers to a greater number of decimal places.¹
1. Lord Kelvin was quoted by the physicist Albert Michelson during his 1894 address at the dedication of the University of Chicago's Ryerson Laboratory (see D. Kleppner, Physics Today, November 1998).

How a failed experiment led to Einstein’s first big revolution
Throughout the 1880s, Albert Michelson tried to use light to measure our motion through the aether.
What he didn't find led to a revolution.

Other physics examples reflect the accepted science of that time, even though subsequent advances rendered that science incorrect. For instance, Bloom ruminates on how heat is transferred through convection, conduction, and radiation while boiling water for tea, including a mention of how the Sun's radiant heat is "transmitted through omnipresent luminiferous diathermanous ether." At the time, some physicists still believed in the existence of a luminiferous ether that served as the medium through which light traveled. It was eventually disproved—thanks to the famous Michelson-Morley experiment in 1887 and Albert Einstein's development of special relativity and his paper on the photoelectric effect in 1905 (his annus mirabilis). But Manos notes that a high school textbook contemporary with the novel's 1904 setting still referenced the ether as a scientific fact.

Note
Does anyone remeber two fellows called Albert A. Michelson and Edward W. Morley ? or the Michelson–Morley experiment?
Connecticut nodded, “Vaguely. Morley was one of my citizens, he grew up living in West Hartford.”
“I remember them,” Ohio answered, “Cleveland might too… The experiment turned into pretty hard evidence against the then-prevalent aether theory. What about it?”

A rare occultation of the bright star Betelgeuse by asteroid 319 Leona turned up mixed results. In science and astronomy, sometimes a negative or subtle result can be as interesting as a positive one. That’s just what occultation-chasers where confronted with this past Monday evening on the night of December 11th/12th, when asteroid 319 Leona occulted (passed in front of) the +0.5 magnitude star Betelgeuse. The Event This was the most anticipated asteroid occultation of a bright star since 163 Erigone occulted Regulus on over the northeastern United States in 2014. Much like that event, Monday night’s occultation was a hit-or-miss affair along the 142 kilometer-wide path in terms of clouds. The track of the ‘asteroid’s shadow’ across the Earth crossed over the southern tip of Florida, the Atlantic and central Europe. Asteroid Leona (circled) approaches Betelgeuse. Credit: Tom Wildoner A Subtle Celestial Affair Nabbing an asteroid occultation usually means traveling to the path, and Monday night’s event was no exception. It was hoped that observers would see Betelgeuse wink out for a dozen-odd seconds. A study of the resulting light curve could not only refine the shape and size of the asteroid, but help to say something about the diameter of Betelgeuse itself. Plans were laid, and cameras and telescopes were at the ready for the best asteroid occultation of a bright star for 2023. But when the key moment came, observers saw nary a blip in brightness. Well, almost nothing. If you watch video recordings of the event, Betelgeuse did seem to quiver a bit at the key time. So, what happened? Betelgeuse (Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse) I think the key to the mystery lies in the nature of both of the objects involved. Betelgeuse is a variable star, and at roughly 550 light-years distant, one of the closest candidates to our solar system with a potential to go supernova. Remember the excitement back in late 2019 when the star conspicuously dimmed? At the time, there was hope that this was a harbinger for a cataclysmic event. Although Betelgeuse is crowned Alpha Orionis (the brightest star in Orion), it often swaps places with the star Rigel as the lucida for the constellation Orion. An image of the surface of Betelgeuse, constructed using interferometry. Credit: Xavier Haubois (Paris Observatory). Now, Red Giant Betelgeuse is massive enough and close enough to show a tiny but discernible angular diameter. In fact, Betelgeuse was the first star to have its apparent angular diameter efectively measured. Astronomers Albert Michelson and Francis Pease completed this feat in 1920. They did this using a six-meter interferometer mounted on the front of the 2.5-meter telescope at Mount Wilson. They came up with a value of 47 mas (milli-arcseconds, or 1/1,000th of an arcsecond). Today, the accepted value of the diameter of Betelgeuse is 45-55 mas. This makes Betelgeuse the second largest star in the sky in terms of apparent angular diameter, behind R Doradus at 57 mas. Asteroid 319 Leona, constructed from an occultation in September 2023. Credit: J.L. Ortitiz/MNRAS Letters Asteroid 319 Leona was discovered by astronomer Auguste Charlois from the Nice Observatory on the night of October 8th, 1891. Orbiting the Sun once every 6.3 years, 319 Leona is an estimated 80 by 55 kilometers across, yielding an angular size of about 46 mas in diameter. The asteroid was 2.763 Astronomical Units (AU) distant at the time of the event. Occultation Obfuscation Of course, 319 Leona, like most small asteroids, is oblong-shaped. I’m thinking what happened Monday night was a partial or annular occultation, which failed to dim mighty Betelgeuse entirely. Think of the strange potato-shaped eclipses that the rovers on Mars sometimes witness. These occur when the misshapen moons Phobos and Deimos pass in front of the Sun. Perseverance sees Phobos pass in front of the Sun. Credit: NASA “At least there was a very obvious dimming,” Andreas Dill who recorded the event from Spain told Universe Today. “Whether this was because it was an annular or a partial eclipse remains to be analyzed. What I am eager to see, and what is the main goal of observations: will it be possible to reconstruct the surface of Betelgeuse from all the obtained light curves?” An early analysis of the occultation event, along with the extrapolated light curve. Credit: Domenico Licchelli Sure, maybe the occultation wasn’t a clean cut event. Still, those guttering flickers of the star could yield some interesting results. Maybe our understanding of the true size and nature of Betelgeuse is due for a slight revision. And someday, tonight or thousands of years from now, Betelgeuse will indeed go supernova. It will then put on a fine show, giving astronomers a chance to study such a spectacle up close. We can only hope this occurs in a month such as December, putting Betelgeuse in full view as a ‘Christmas Star’ like no other (June would put it almost directly behind the Sun!). After its final show is over, Betelgeuse will then ‘wink out’ for good, and Orion the Hunter will never truly look the same again. The post Betelgeuse Versus the Asteroid… What Happened? appeared first on Universe Today.

The word Death means “total cessation of life, act or fact of dying, state of being dead; cause of death, ghosts," perhaps from PIE root *dheu- meaning “to die" (see die)
Die means "to cease to live," from PIE root *dheu “to pass away, die, become senseless" senseless reminds me of sinless which could refer to a soul ascending out of a current fallen state. Man “fell into sin” and death is perhaps our chance to get out of a dense material reality.
We are energy beings. Energy never dies, it only changes form.
I was thinking about the word Death. The letter D can symbolize “door to” like Devil is door to evil. Death is like Door to eath. The Aether.
Etymonline.com says that in In ancient cosmology, aether was the element that filled all space beyond the sphere of the moon, constituting the substance of the stars and planets. Conceived of as a purer form of fire or air, or as a fifth element. From 17c.-19c., it was the scientific word for an assumed "frame of reference" for forces in the universe, perhaps without material properties.
The way I read this, the ether makes up everything. in the late 1800s scientists Michelson and Morley, did experiments that proved the existence of the aether. It was these experiments that caused Albert Einstein and Gravity to appear on the world stage. the entire gravity narrative is nonsensical and non provable. Gravity is not a law, it is a theory. And a bad one. What holds everything to the Earth, this ball spinning and hurling through space at mach 23? Gravity. What keeps the moon spaced away from the Earth? gravity. Those ae polar opposite situations, gravity cannot be the answer for both. Humanity used to realize that electricity was the primary force in this realm. gravity doesn’t even exist yet arguing it is a hill many would die on.
Upon death a soul should return to the aether to experience various creations. There has been a recycling system or reincarnation trap in place here for quite a while. The Saturn moon matrix has programmed mankind to fear death, “follow the light“ and has brainwashed man to think that God is an external entity. When in reality, “God” is everything, and the force within you, that is your being, is God. Maybe we should call god aether instead. It is forgetting that we are the creator that keeps us trapped in here. Any being or distraction that keeps you from going inside the self on the other side is an evil one. Jesus is said to be the light of the world when the only thing he is saving is the demiurge from losing souls to harvest.
The Bible acknowledges that we are eternal beings. You cannot be in heaven or condemned for eternity if you’re not eternal. There is no beginning and no end we have always been and will always be. That’s what eternity means. No beginning and no end. It’s hard for a human mind to comprehend. I can assure you that there is so much more out there than this reality currently operated like a prison. Religion is designed to stagnate and devolve souls. It is to save the system, not your soul. The only sin is to forget you are a soul not to protect it.

A méditer ....

Patient Zero tilts their head, a little surprised at what is kind of... An endearing answer. It was a question meant mostly in jest yet Wesker had answered it so sincerely.
Though it was more likely he just lacked a sense of humor and the teasing went right over his head. Seeing her own head was still in one piece, that was the most likely reason.
"Huh... That's... Kind of cool? Which namesake do you prefer then? Einstein or Camus? Honestly you strike me more of a... What's-his-face..." The B.O.W. bit their finger in thought, then their eyes lit up.
"Right! Albert Michelson. The physics guy who measured the speed of light."
She plops down criss-cross on the ground, determined to finally get some answers from the Fog's most notorious killer.
"Mr. Albert Wesker, the people have to know... How do you feel about your name being Albert and if you could legally change it, what would you change it to?"
"It is the only name I have known - though knowing my background, I suspect it was not the one bestowed upon me at birth. Spencer liked to pick names with blatant inspiration so I assume I was called Albert as a homage to Albert Camus - who died the year I was born, or to Albert Einstein.
Regardless, I have no interest in changing it now. I have spent nearly half my life being named Albert and I am content with that."

Einstein was aware of at least some experiments that had failed to detect evidence for the existence of the aether.²
2. There is some controversy as to the role such experiments played in Einstein's development of special relativity. In his biography of Einstein, Subtle is the Lord: The Science and the Life of Albert Einstein (Oxford University Press, 1972), pp. 115-19, Abraham Pais has argued, using Einstein's own statements from his later years, that Einstein was aware he the Michelson-Morley results. Albrecht Fölsing in Albert Einstein: A Biography (New York: Viking, 1997), pp. 217-20, also argues that Einstein was aware of the Michelson-Morley result, as well as the earlier experimental null results in searching for evidence of the aether, such as the work of Armand Fizeau. But Fölsing and many other historians of science have also argued that such experiments played, at best, a secondary role in Einstein's thinking. Einstein was primarily guided by considerations and mathematical symmetry, simplicity, and an uncanny physical intuition.
