The Finale -HMS Prince c.1670
This was 41 years in the making relative to research...and finally it’s complete! I now have a lock on 17th century British ships...I’m humbled.

Meet Sue-Ella from One Little Pot in ALBANY
Having grown up in Albany I'm always inspired by the creative and talented people down there. Recently I discovered Sue-Ella who has One Little Pot. I love exposing Small Businesses all over WA and One Little Pot seemed the perfect choice for our first blog from a South West female owned small business,  Nikki How and Why did you started your business? I actually started this little biz after mentioning to a friend how I wanted to try and make some little concrete pots just for fun. I'd seen some on Instagram that looked fab and thought it couldn't be too hard, but then forgot about it for a while till she suggested making some for christmas present last year. Both of us were stay at home Mum's so we tee'd up an arvo to experiment with cement. Its a pretty messy exercise we soon realised onced we saw those little pots come out of the moulds, I got a little excited and thought hmmm I'm going to continue to experiment!! So I thank my lovely friend Carly for getting the ball rolling for something I may never have got around to doing!! We didn't get the perfect cement/sand balance to start with as there were a few cracks appearing but once doing my homework, I got that part sorted pretty quickly and I started looking around for different shape moulds to try and the addiction started from there. I thought to myself I wanted something else to stimulate my mind as well as being a Mummy (although that is challenging enough some days). What better way to make a little bit of pocket-money on the side than doing something I really love and also getting the satisfaction that other people were loving what I was doing!! Its a win win. I thought go hard while they are popular. These pots look fab in your home, they will never blow over outside and they are handmade with love!! I've forever been a retail girl in fashion stores so this is a nice change for now to still get my creative on but from home whilst doing my mum role too!! Where do you operate from? I work from home and all pot making is done in our shed while one little man is at daycare or when he's with family as its not a job to do around children with cement fibres flying around plus spraypaint etc...its actually not the most glamourous job (alot different to fashion retail) as it is so drying on your hands even wearing gloves. I'm going thru the handcream thats for sure!!
Where did your business name come from? Can you believe my husband came up with our business name. He's actually a concreter himself but works away so I do all my pot making myself, its all mixed by hand!! Its a pretty simple name and suited exactly what I was making so I liked it as soon as he suggested it. I will admit I wanted to be able to say I thought of the name but with all the other little ideas that came to mind I kept comimg back to 'one little pot' so that was that! Name chosen by my hubby! What do you find is the biggest challenge when owning you own business? The Biggest challenge would be juggling business and motherhood (because I'm on my own alot) as your children are the most important things in your lives but if you can find the right balance it tends to work out ok! Sometimes you have to feel like making pots, everyone has those days where they just want to chill all day, but I just make sure the 2 days I don't have my little guy, I push myself to get stuck into them!! Its all works out in the end. Your best moment so far in your business? Oh the best moments are all of it so far and just hearing awesome feedback from people and them coming back for more!! Actually doing an order for a local hair salon in town has been very cool, Id love to do more orders for other businesses and I loved the fact she fully trusted me to do whatever I thought would work and just gave me the colours she wanted. Being a lover of interior design, always wishing Id done something like that in my life plus doing visual merchandising in my jobs over the years has definately helped with colours choices and designs with all my pots! Some of what I do won't always be everyones cup of tea but I always believe there'll be something for everyone. Your favourite quote or mantra WE CREATE OUR TOMORROWS BY WHAT WE DREAM TODAY this is the perfect quote for me as I am dreamer and always dreaming about the future or the next project What is your advice to WA Women wanting to start their own business or turning their hobby into a small business? My advice would be to just give it a go as you have nothing to lose if you are passionate enough about it and don't give up, plus  take advantage of you social media outlets because it wasn't around when I was a youngen and it really helps to get you out there, although mine is just a little hobby at the moment, you never know where it might lead you!
THE QUICK FIVE Favourite Albany Coffee place- Fredericks on the corner of Peels Place and York St love that it is outdoors mainly! plus The Naked Bean! Favourite Western Australian Fashion Label - I couldn't name a fave as there are so many talented ones! Favourite Albany Homewares- Green Couture (where I stock my pots ) Favourite Albany Bar- Rats Bar (although I dont get out enough these days with child in tow) this bar looks fab inside and has a great little atmosphere and close to the beach or Liberte is very little quirky spot also. Favourite Albany Restaurant- too many to name One
