Building the VASA, to date, has been a tedious task...but well worth the research and modification which is being applied to this current project. With so many versions out there I have come to conclude my line of work to the original writer of the ship, re: Bjorn Landstrom who spent three consecutive years with this raised vessel.

Thank you for viewing!

Like Titanic the Swedish Vasa ship sank on their maiden voyage. But the Swedish navy ship sank already after only two nautic miles (3.7 km) from start 11th of August 1628. 53 sailors lost their life. Thanks to the ego of the Swedish King Gustav II Adolph he ordered in 1625 to build a huge navy ship. Because of rumors about the Danish navy, he suddenly wanted to have two gun-decks - which was not build before and was advised strongly against to do from the navy and the ship builder. The king changed the construction of the ship many times and the plans were undocumented with no detailed specifications. This was one of the the biggest projects in Sweden at that time - and a total disaster was just waiting to happen. While the Vasa ship already seemed unstable at the harbour, at this point in history there were no known methods to measure the stability or the center for gravity of the135 feet long ship. With the extra gun deck and hundreds of ornate, gilded and painted carvings above deck - it was ment to be most impressive navy ship and no costs was spared. This resulted in that the upper part was wider than the lower part of the ship. So when the ship left harbour with very little wind, the ship very fast heeled (toppled) on its side and water filled the ship through it's many gun portals and it eventually sank in the harbour area. 333 year after it was lifted. Because it had sunken in the shallows of the Baltic sea and due to the salinity of the water, the wooden wessel survived infestation and degradition - and 95% of the wood was intact. #vasa #vasamuseum #Sweden #Stockholm #navy #maiden https://www.instagram.com/p/CiAVEIoN_gK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🔴The Swedish Warship🔴 . ⚫It is Sank On Its Maiden Voyage and Remained Intact for Over 300 Years . ⚫Vasa was the world’s most high-tech warship when it first set sail. It only navigated about 1,300 meters before sinking in front of horrified onlookers. ⚫Vasa is a Swedish warship built between 1626 and 1628. Its rather peculiar story has gone down in history: despite being one of the Swedish navy’s biggest achievements and among the most spectacular warships ever built, Vasa sank within twenty minutes of setting sail, just 1,300 m (1,400 yd) into her maiden voyage on 10 August 1628. ⚫“The warship survived the first blast of wind it encountered on its maiden voyage in Stockholm Harbor,” writes Lucas Laursen for Archaeology. “But the second gust did it in. The sinking of Vasa took place nowhere near an enemy. In fact, it sank in full view of a horrified public, assembled to see off their navy’s – and Europe’s – most ambitious warship to date . ⚫Upon completion, Vasa was one of the most powerfully armed vessels in the world. However, she was dangerously unstable, with too much weight in the upper structure of the hull. ⚫Despite this lack of stability, she was ordered to sea and foundered only a few minutes after encountering a wind stronger than a breeze. . . YES! I saw this in person this summer and it was AMAZING! Easily one of the coolest things I have ever seen in my entire life. I highly recommend going!
This is the Swedish warship Vasa. It sank in 1628 and was recovered from the ocean in 1961, almost completely intact. This is the only remaining intact ship from the 1600’s. This ship is housed in The Vasa Museum in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Vasa sank in 1628 into the cold depths of Stockholm harbor, leaving it relatively well-preserved until it was recovered in 1961. Carvings decorate the back and make the massive ship a sight to behold (see people at lower left for scale). . Lights are kept very low in the museum for preservation, so this medium-length exposure using a DSLR appears much brighter than the usual lighting level looks to the naked eye. The low light makes for a peaceful and reverent experience. . . #travel #thevasamuseum #vasamuseet #vasamuseum #thevasa #vasa #stockholm #stockholmström #sweden #shipwreck #salvage #recovered #tallship #warship #woodenship #carvings #woodencarvings #museum #preservation #DSLR #mediumexposure #rigging #sailing #vessel #touristing #worthavisit #destinations #natgeotravel #excursion #traveldestination (at Vasamuseet / The Vasa Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8CD5mLFhE6/?igshid=wgij5d8pusm3

Stockholm Sweden This was our first visit to Sweden and like the Baltic countries, we were unsure what to expect. We decided to spend 2 additional days on the tail end of our cruise in Stockholm. It turns out, we could could have spent more time there to discover the treasures of Stockholm. Stockholm is made up of 14 islands connected through a network of bridges and also accessible traveling via boat. We elected to purchase the hop on hop off tour bus and boat as our primary means of transportation. A 48 hour pass worked out well for us providing a good overview of the city in relative comfort of the boat or bus. It also can save money when compared to Uber and Taxi to your destinations. The highlight of our visit was the Vasa Museum. If you ever get the opportunity to visit Stockholm, make time to visit the Vasa, it is well worth the price of admission. Upon entering the museum, my jaw dropped as I set my eyes upon one of the most incredible sights I have ever seen. There is front of me was the Vasa. A Swedish warship in incredible condition. This is not a restoration, 98% of what you see is a ship almost 400 years old. The ship set sail in 1628 and at that time was the most battle ready ship in the world. Unfortunately, the design of the ship was flawed. The two levels of cannons, while intimidated, proved to be a contributor to the demise of the Vasa. The lower heavy cannons were too close to the water line, the ship was built for speed and with only and 11.5 meter width at its widest point made it unstable. The ship sailed for 30 minutes until a gust of wind blew the ship to such an angle the water rushed in to the lower opened gun ports. Within minutes the pride of the Swedish Navy had sunk without even leaving the harbor. The cold dark waters with low oxygen levels kept the ship intact until it was raised to the service 333 years later. A visit to the Royal Palace was worth the trip too, especially a tour of the dungeons. Stockholm was a great way to complete our trip. #stockholm #vasamuseum #sweden #ncldawn #ncl #vacation #cruisevacation https://www.instagram.com/p/CfMashRF2mt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
