With your reblog of the What-If scenario where Alastor’s mom is a kinda bad mom, I am now picturing a combination of that What-If with your Blackout AU. I mean, not having any parental affection growing up in combination with a father who is so physically abusive he beat his wife to death, and then living through the early 1900’s in New Orleans as a mixed race man—is it any wonder his brain decided to “nope” out of super stressful situations?

And in the scenario where Alastor’s mom and Alastor reunite in Hell, what if she finds out about the blackouts and the fact that Alastor did not know what landed him in Hell?? I’m just picturing it as being a bad time for everyone involved, like that has some serious angst potential.

God that would genuinely be so, so messed up.

Alastor's lack of love during his formative years would honestly not even be the worst of his trauma, but damn did it have permanent consequences. Honestly it would be a good explanation for why his relationship with Mimzy is the way it is— he's so used to loving without being loved in return, and therefore has 0 problems with being used by the people he loves. He's just a bag of Horrific Brain Issues.

I think Alastor's mom would still go to heaven. She may not have loved Alastor, and as a result was a pretty bad mom, but she wasn't a bad person. She still did her best. Honestly speaking, Alastor mostly doesn't blame her for not loving him specifically because he knew her own circumstances were absolutely abysmal. His dad was a wife-beating scumbag and Alastor was a product of rape. As far as Alastor is concerned, his mother was a fucking saint just for not hating his existence on principle. She stuck around and tried her best.

(Of course, he knows she's thought horrible things in moments of weakness. She once stood over his bed with a pillow in her hands when he was seven. It was a bad night, one of her eyes were swollen shut, tears running down her face... Alastor pretended to sleep, silently watching her in the mirror. She stood there for an hour, shaking like a leaf, before leaving. He kept this memory to himself.)

I think if she ever takes a visit to hell and finds out about the blackouts, she might actually have a really bad initial reaction. Alastor always did his best to never act anything like his father, despite sharing a similar face with him. His mom would not take kindly to knowing that he gets violent in any capacity.

When she finds out that it's entirely involuntary, and that Alastor didn't even know it was happening when he was alive, she's definitely going to have a bad mental breakdown. Her first thought would be that it's her fault. She already felt guilty for the way she treated him in life. She couldn't love him the way he deserved, never looked him in the eyes, had a hard time even going through the motions of a "proper mother." Was the lack of love the reason why his mind is so broken?

Finding out the first time he ever had a blackout was the day she was murdered would break her. Alastor loved her so much that her death destroyed his mind.

(The fault isn't solely hers, but she wouldn't be in sound enough mind to recognize this. It's the fault of Alastor's father, for being an abusive asshole, for everyone who outcasted Alastor based on his race, for being a "mixed bastard." It's the continued fault of war, financial instability, hunger, segregation, police brutality, etc. She may have been part of the initial spark, but she wasn't the sole cause.)

As for the rest of the hotel, I think some of them might actually get super annoyed with her guilt. Because to them, it might look like she's making Alastor's suffering all about her. Which would definitely lead to some tension, between her and the rest of the hazbin crew, as well as some tension between the crew and Alastor. Because he would not appreciate their line of thinking.

Despite the tension, it would take a lot for them to move on from the opinion they built on Alastor's mom. Namely that she definitely does not deserve the absolute unconditional love that Alastor showers her with.

While I do like the idea, I think that would have gotten his mother jugged into hell as well and I think that would have been mentioned at some point. At the very least Mimzy would have probably commented on it.

I like a sort of 'in between' idea: Alastor only killed bad people because of one or two reasons. One being his mother being a good person and he knew she wouldn't have approved therefore he's trying to at least minimize the damage he's doing in order not to disappoint her or tarnish her memory. He would still follow his mother's morals rather than his own but it would be much less obvious so.

Two, he might have seen his mother in the victims of the people he killed. Here I am mostly inspired by the comic that shows him going about his business in hell in which he kills a butcher with whom he had been cordially until the guy attacked a sheep woman. He comments something along the lines of "I hate it when those of fairer means are being treated unfairly".

His mother was a black woman at the beginning of the 20th century in Louisiana. She was underprivileged, most likely a victim to racism, classicism and a potential outcast even in her own community because her only child had much lighter skin than her. Alastor probably watched his whole life his mother being treated unfairly and when he got the job as a radio host and met more and more privileged couples he most likely encountered more than one white woman, supposedly protected by her privilege, being abused by her husband, therefore linking them to the image of his mother.

I like both ideas a lot because in both cases Alastor clearly hasn't developed a moral compass the way most of us do but rather than being given a moral codex from an outside source he developed his own guidelines which are still entirely connected to his mother.

Either he subconsciously followed her morals, not because he believed in them but because he didn't want to disappoint her, or he is raging against the prejudice and abuse she had to face and is projecting that on all women (who can't defend themselves. Pretty sure some if the Overlords he killed were women).

I hope we see more of him interacting with Angel in the future because that would probably shed some light on his inner workings.

In the pilot he called him 'an effeminated fellow' (which coming from the dude wearing a women's hair cut is probably not an insult) and Angel checks all the victim boxes, Valentino is a walking toxic red flag.

In other words, I know how extremely epic it would be for Husk to kill Valentino. But watching Alastor rip him apart because how dare he, harm one of his guests, would be even more satisfying.

Especially because most of hell would probably think that they're fucking and that's the reason Alastor started a war with the Vees.

And then they see Husk and Angel making out with Alastor just standing next to them and what the fuck?!

Are all three of them fucking?!

And oh boy, hard stop here because a fanfiction is trying to break out of me and I am already working on three different ones.

I know the idea of Alastor only killing 'bad' people is very popular. I mean, I'm a fan of the theory myself and am in camp 'wants Alastor to be redeemed' (albeit in the sense of someone domesticating the feral cat they brought into their house who scratches the shit out of anyone who tries petting it).

Buuuuuuuut...

What if instead of Alastor choosing to only kill people 'deserving' of it because of a his own morals (weird as they may be), it was because of his mother? Like, if she discovered as a teenager that he was having homicidal thoughts, and not seeing any way to stop them but also not wanting to condemn her son, she asked him to at the very least only kill people who deserve to die? And Alastor, not wanting to disappoint the only person aside from himself who he cares for, agrees. Again, not because of his own sense of morality, but simply because his mother asked him to.

Until nearly a century passes and you have to give up the ghost and ask that nice young woman Emily and confirm what you'd been fearing for the last 30 years. Your sweet little baby is in HELL of all places, and he got there relatively soon after you got to heaven

And it breaks your heart, but you have to know why. why that sweet little baby that loved catching and brining home frogs went to hell. and it breaks your heart. so much death, so much PAIN. and all at the hand of your little boy. And he KEPT doing it in hell, to the point that he's one of the scariest things down there, and it's not like there's a shortage of scary evil things there. Oh you just wish you could give him such a talking to.

and then canon happens and visitors from heaven are allowed to go down as long as it's to encourage people to redeem themselves. Now's your chance! you hop on down and you walk up those hotel steps about to tan your little boy's backside for all the lying and suffering he caused

and you find him cuddled up with THE DEVIL. The actual fallen angel Lucifer, and your little boy is ENGAGED TO HIM!!!??? and they're raising the antichrist together???!!!(sweet girl, honestly, if there's one bright spot to the situation, she's really a perfectly lovely granddaughter)

Then you find out the devil is a total sweetheart. and you have to wonder what went wrong. How do you fuck up a child so bad that marrying the actual biblical devil is the goodest thing he's ever done?

Well... He knows what is she, but he likes her more than Mimzy. At least he knows that she's not using Alastor for power and doesn't bring troubles with her all the time

She's still a kind woman, just little bit fucked up and is supportive of her psychopath son. She's kind to people she knows, this includes Husk and Niffty (and the Hotel gang now too)

btw, Anna (Al's mom) doesn't like Mimzy too. For same reasons as Husk.

I really like your art and your way of thinking about what Alastor's family and the duo of assassins would be like when they were human, it's a shame that the creator of Habzin Hotel doesn't explore this part much. Throughout your AU I had some questions, if you don't mind asking, are you going to delve deeper into Alastor's family history? Or even Mimzy's? Just my curiosity, hehe. I wonder what his sisters' lives were like, or even how his parents came to meet. But as I said, it's just curiosity, you don't have to answer if you don't want to, sorry if I seemed rude. That's ok to ask these questions. That means that you're interested in my AU which is really flattering. The only problem is that I don't have enough time to draw everything I planned. I wanna dive deeper into the story of Al's family since these characters caught people's interest. The same applies to my headcanons of Mimzy's past (I briefly wrote about it in this ask). I'm currently working on a few comics. The first ones are episodes of besties' first murders. The other comic in the work is an episode with Al's family (dad's death).

I'm planning to write a separate post about Alastor's sisters' lives after their parents' death. It's gonna be a long one 😅 So stay tuned for that.

The story of their parents' first meeting though. Their father (Jean-Marie Beaupré) was a 25-year-old musician, an immigrant from Europe. After cutting ties with his parents, he traveled to America in search of a new life and opportunities. He was able to find a job as a court musician (a violinist) for a wealthy family. Their mother (Eugénie) also served there as a governess and kid's nanny. She was 21 at that time.

Eugénie was drawn to the moody, brooding musician for some reason (maybe she wanted her life to be like a romance novel she secretly read). In short, she initiated the first conversation with him. In turn, JM was fascinated by the young lady's optimism and her ability to see the good even where it seemed to him everything was meaningless. After a series of secret meetings and quiet conversations in the garden, they began to fall for each other.

OKAY IMAGINE THIS (also, excuse my horrible writing skills. please):

Sir Pentious was strolling around Heaven, only to spot a woman of a slightly small stature, adorned with black, curly hair, sitting on a bench close to the Heavenly Gates.

“Hello, my dear!” Sir Pentious smiled. “May I sssit here?”

“Oh my! Such good manners you have!” She smiled at the kind snake. “Of course you may sit here, kind sir!”

Sir Pentious grinned. “Why thank you, my dear! For the compliment, and the approval!” Sir Pentious sat down next to the woman.

A few moments of silence passed.

“May I asssk what you are doing here?” Sir Pentious asked.

The woman gently smiled, “Every now and then, the gates will open, revealing a newly dead person, seeing their wonderful, eternal home for the first time.” She put her hands together and beamed. “I love seeing their awestruck faces.” 

Her face turned into a bit of a solemn expression. “And I’m waiting for someone important to me. I don’t know how long I’ve been waiting… But I know he will come soon.” She said, her eyes starting to water. 

“Oh, don’t cry, my dear!” Sir Pentious frowned and wiped the woman’s tears away. 

“I’m fine, my kind sir.” The woman smiled, tears continuing to run down her face. She turned to Sir Pentious with an empathetic expression. “Remember to smile, my friend!” She said, her fingers pointing to the edges of her upturned lips. “You’re never fully dressed without one!”

Sir Pentious chuckled at what the woman did.

“That’s the spirit, my friend!”

The two laughed together for a few seconds, only for the silence to fall upon them again.

Sir Pentious turned to face the woman with a curious expression. “I’m sssorry to asssk… but… who are you waiting for, my dear?”

The woman wiped her tears again, “Oh, I’m waiting for my wonderful son…”

“Alastor.”

Hmmm...what a vulgar question! Hah!

I would chain you down and peel your skin bit by bit until you begged for death. And even then I wouldn't have an ounce of mercy, I'd pick away for years upon end until you were nothing but pearly bones.

Then I'd sell your bones to the hellhounds for their pups to gnaw on.

I often think about a What If scenario in which Alastor's mother was actually just. Not a good mom. I don't mean in a "she's evil" sense or anything, I just mean it in a "she didn't want children" sense. Or at least, not children with Alastor's father.

I like to think about Alastor's mother doing her best, but her best isn't good enough because 1, this wasn't the life she wanted, and 2, her child's face reminds her of a man she hates. As a consequence, she doesn't actually love Alastor, and feels guilty about it.

Meanwhile, Alastor grows to understand his mother doesn't love him, but he still loves her because she stuck around anyways. Sure, she can't look him in the eyes, but she's still around, still feeding him, sewing patches into his clothes, teaching him life lessons. And most of all, she doesn't physically harm him, which isn't something he can say about his father.

Of course, the lack of love from both of his parents still does a lot of psychological harm that he's just not aware of.

AU where Lucifer went down to New Orleans sometime between 1900 and 1910, right in the middle of Mardi Gras. Charlie was about 100ish at this time, and while Lucifer and Lilith were still together, there was a growing emotional distance between them that had been going on for a few decades at this point. Lucifer's just trying to have some fun and forget his worries for a little while, and he does. And he meets a nice lady. A very nice Creole woman who makes a mean pot of jambalaya with a kick right out of hell. They hit it off and spend the majority of the celebration together.

They get drunk. Very drunk. Lucifer doesn't remember most of that night. The woman, Nicaise, is pregnant.

By some quirk of genetics, the child comes out indistinguishable from a normal human, if significantly paler than his dark-skinned mother. Growing up, Nicaise always tells her son that his daddy was an angel, but all the boy sees is that his father abandoned him and his mother in a world that doesn't look kindly on black women or single mothers. He watches his mother struggle, he watches her suffer, and he grows up resenting and hating the men who make her life hell. Especially his father.

Headcanon that Alastor's hair in his sinner form feels a lot more like fur than hair.

Also headcanon that as a human he had coarse, curly hair, but straightened it using a hot comb and hair products. His hair wasn't as tightly curled as his mother's, being a mixture of her and his father's hair types.

Also also headcanon that his mom had a coarse, kinky hair type, but also straightened it because the 1920s kinda sucked when it came to natural hair types for colored people. As she got older, though, she started straightening her hair less, because she learned to love her hair.

i don't really get personal often, but today is my mother's birthday. she died a few years ago and i'm not over it, but i really cherish the memories of everything she was to me

it's one of the reasons i really relate to alastor and how he feels about his mom

i had them making gumbo because it's something we made a lot at home when i was growing up, especially for cozy rainy days
