Six Weekly Recap for Week of 2/28-3/7

Hey! So there's definitely a lot to cover this week in terms of news.

I'll go by production.

We definitely had an eventful week at Six West End. Firstly, Esme and Rachel's Cleves and Howard debuts were cancelled, due to falling ill. Danielle also fell ill, so Roxanne Couch debuted as her second cover, Howard in her absense. Natalie Pilkington and Harriet Watson came over from the UK Tour to cover for two days. Natalie played Aragon and Harriet played both Seymour and Cleves. Courtney Bowman came back to cover Anne Boleyn for the evening show on March 6.

Vicki Manser played her final performance (for now) as Katherine Howard on the UK Tour on March 6. Lauren Drew, Maddison Bulleyment, Caitin Tipping, Shekinah McFarlane, Harriet Watson and Elena Gyasi will all play their final performance at the evening show on March 9. On March 10, Chlöe Hart, Jennifer Caldwell, Casey Al-Shaqsy, Aeisha Pease, Jaina Brock-Patel and Alana M. Robinson will play their first performances as principals for the UK Tour.

Abby Mueller and Mallory Maedke have both been on vacation, so Keirsten Hodgens has been playing Jane Seymour for the past week. On March 6, Courtney Mack debuted as Catherine Parr on Broadway, finishing her final debut for her main three covers. On March 13, Anna Uzele will play her final performance as Catherine Parr and on March 14, Joy Woods will play her first performance as Catherine Parr. **UPDATE** According to Playbill.com, Keri Rene Fuller is Jane Seymour right now…what

Nov 2nd - OK! Magazine US makes up a cover story about Taylor being pregnant and suggests that it's Calvin's baby. (x) (A year later, Taylor mocks this cover in her reputation magazines.) A source (almost certainly Tree) shuts down the pregnancy claims via Gossip Cop. (x)

Nov 3rd - Taylor makes a surprise appearance at the CMAs in Nashville to present the Entertainer of the Year Award (x) and has fun at the afterparty. (x)

14th February 2017 - This absolutely bonkers Tom Hiddleston interview is published in GQ magazine (the interview was conducted mid-January and briefly got the tabloids excited about the ‘mystery brunette’ that Tom was meeting in London). Tom is still hurt from the breakup and media fallout, gets dragged by Taffy (the interviewer) for his overwhelmingly earnest enthusiasm for everything, finally explains the I <3 TS tank top to her (and is so sad about it that she literally wishes he would stop talking about it), and then shows up at her hotel at 5am the next morning in an attempt to explain himself better.

(I wonder if this interview is what prompted Taylor to write Getaway Car...)

A+ Well filmed with a nice mix of close-ups and full stage shots and no obstructions. Based on the revised Off-Broadway version, and presented at the Balagan Theatre. Because this was recorded at the final run-through prior to opening night, there are a few “holds” as they worked out any kinks: * After “Evening Prayers” there is a hold to change all microphone batteries, resulting in most of the song being run a second time (the sound check was removed and put as a bonus at the end of act two). * During the scene where Carrie is getting ready for the prom a microphone made a "farting" noise and Alice grabbed her butt and said "sorry" which made the cast and tech crew laugh.

NOTES: As far as I know, the first ever video of the Toronto production! I had the entire show in VOB format ready to post but, unfortunately, I lost the USB it was on in the middle of an airport. Luckily I was able to salvage all but thirty minutes of the original footage, so all that's lost is part of the scene after "I Am Here" and a portion of "Somewhere In The Middle Of Nowhere". If you find a USB the size of a thumbnail around Pearson, it's a $5 reward! A flu passed around the cast that they were all just recovering from, and at one point you can see Bev take a tissue out of her pilot's jacket and blow her nose. It explains the large number of understudies on, particularly of interest is that of the role of Hannah being played by a Caucasian actress, which causes her absence for the bus scene and leads to a severely different dynamic I'd not seen the character played as before.

New story in Politics from Time: House Democrats Request 6 Years of President Trump’s Tax Returns

House Democrats on Thursday officially requested six years of President Donald Trump’s personal and business tax returns, setting up yet another inevitable litigious showdown between the legislative and executive branches.

Rep. Richard Neal, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee in the House of Representatives, wrote in a letter to Charles P. Rettig, the commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, that he was requesting the President’s tax returns from the years 2013 through 2018. Neal requested that Rettig provide the requested information by Feb. 10.

Trump and his administration have claimed he cannot release his tax returns because he is still under audit. Neal insinuated in his letter to Rettig that excuse was a key reason the committee needs to see the returns.

“The IRS has a policy of auditing the tax returns of all sitting presidents and vice-presidents, yet little is known about the effectiveness of this program,” Neal said in a statement accompanying the release of the letter. “On behalf of the American people, the Ways and Means Committee must determine if that policy is being followed, and, if so, whether these audits are conducted fully and appropriately. In order to fairly make that determination, we must obtain President Trump’s tax returns and review whether the IRS is carrying out its responsibilities.”

More broadly, Neal’s request shows how Democrats are turning up the heat on their oversight probes of the President since Special Counsel Robert Mueller submitted his report to Attorney General William Barr last month. Anticipating the conclusion of the report, Democratic aides and lawmakers had been stressing that they would continue their probes into various other aspects of the President’s tenure and finances once Mueller had finished his work.
