House of the Dragon (prod. Ryan Condal).
What makes [HotD] so rich a world long before the sordid happenings of GoT is its bold narrative decisions that mess with and fast-forward the existing dense mythology around Westeros. All the characters, particularly the empowered female ones, act and curry favour with clear (albeit often misguided) motivations in the pursuit of attaining power definitively.

"HOUSE OF THE DRAGON" Season Two (2024) Episodes Ranking
Below is my ranking of the Season Two episodes from “HOUSE OF THE DRAGON”, HBO’s adaptation of George R. R. Martin's 2018 book, “Fire & Blood”. The series was created by Martin and Ryan Condal:
"HOUSE OF THE DRAGON" SEASON TWO (2024) EPISODES RANKING
(2.04) - "The Red Dragon and the Gold" - In Queen Rhaenyra's absence and with no word from her consort, Prince Daemon, Princess Rhaenys tries to keep the peace on the Black Council, while the Greens' military leader Ser Criston Cole mounts a campaign into the Crownlands. In King's Landing, Prince Aemond continues to undermine his older brother King Aegon II's fragile hold on authority.
2. (2.02) "Rhaenyra the Cruel" - While Aegon's grandfather and Hand, Ser Otto Hightower, schemes to turn the public against Rhaenyra following the death of Aegon's son and heir, she questions Daemon's loyalty. Meanwhile, Cole concocts a misguided plan for revenge against Rhaenyra.
3. (2.07) "The Red Sowing" - While the war escalates, Rhaenyra makes a gamble and risks everything during her quest for more dragon riders amidst Westeros' citizens.
4. (2.01) "A Son for a Son" - In the season premiere, Queen Dowager Alicent Targaryen grows concerned by her son Aegon's Small Council. Grieving over the death of her second son, Rhaenyra delivers an ultimatum to Daemon, whose plan goes terribly wrong.
5. (2.06) "Smallfolk" - At her heir Prince Jacaerys' urging, Rhaenyra embarks on her risky venture to find new dragon riders. Meanwhile, Aemond takes steps to reshape the Green Council, while the badly wounded Aegon recovers.
6. (2.08) "The Queen Who Ever Was" - In the season finale, Rhaenyra reasserts her authority as Queen over Daemon. Ser Tyland Lannister forms an alliance between the Green Small Council and the Triarchy. While Aemond becomes more volatile, the Master of Whispers Ser Larys Strong plots an escape for the still wounded Aegon and himself.
7. (2.03) "The Burning Mill" - As ancient grudges resurface in the Riverlands, Rhaenys suggests that Rhaenyra seek an audience with Alicent to possibly end any future bloodshed. Cole proposes a bold scheme to take the Riverlands. Daemon arrives at Harrenhal Castle to raise an army for the Blacks.
8. (2.05) "Regent" - In the wake of the Battle of Rook's End, the Greens consider how to fill a void on Aegon's Council. Jacaerys sets out on a rogue mission to the Riverlands to strike a deal. Daemon enlists Lord Willem Blackwood to help persuade the Brackens to bend the knee.

2. Saladin [Milind Soman] Def. Jon Snow [Kit Harrington]
1. Rodrigo Borgia [Jeremy Irons] Def. Lord Tywin Lannister [Charles Dance]
And the 10 Tilts with the widest margins of victory were (in reverse order):
10. Inigo Montoya [Mandy Patinkin] Def. Corlys Velaryon [Steve Toussaint]

1. Faramir, Son of Denethor [David Wenham] Def. Uther Pendragon [Gabriel Byrne]
The Tilt with the most votes (by far) at 5,177 Votes was Geralt of Rivia [Henry Cavill] Vs. Sir Gary Galavant [Joshua Sasse] Which Galavant won with 57.7% of the Vote
It was an exodus of two-by-twos this round with both of our Ewan Mitchells [Aemond Targaryen and Osferth], both of our Henry Cavills [Geralt of Rivia and Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk], AND both of our Iain Glens [Ser Jorah Mormont and Prince Hamlet] losing their respective tilts to Erik Thurgilson [Christian Hillborg], Fili [Dean O'Gorman], Galavant [Joshua Sasse], Prince John [Oscar Isaac], "The Player" [Richard Dreyfuss] and Ned Stark [Sean Bean]. Even both of our Laurence Oliviers [Prince Hamlet and Henry V] were sent scurrying to the vents in disgrace, losing their tilts against Cesare Borgia [Francois Arnaud] and Elrond Half-elven [Hugo Weaving].
In fact, nearly of of the men of Middle Earth fared uncommon well in this round, with only three losing their matches. Haldir [Craig Parker] was unable to best the charms of that most magnificent of minstrels, Hubert Hawkins [Danny Kaye]. Kili [Aiden Turner] had a strong start against George, the Sheriff of Nottingham [Alan Rickman], but the race tightened about halfway through, and the Sheriff was able to pull through a stunning last-minute victory. Despite his brutal focus and discipline and grim sense of humor, Uglúk [Nathaniel Lees] suffered a crushing defeat under the cloven hoof of a greater and sexier evil, Darkness [Tim Curry]. The Sons of Denethor, Boromir [Sean Bean] and Faramir [David Wenham] truly dominated their oppositions (Alessandro Farnese [Diarmuid Noyes] and Uther Pendragon [Gabriel Byrne]) and were the only competitors to achieve margins of victory exceeding 90% in this round.
The Men of Westeros did not fare so well. Of their 14 remaining competitors only four now stand:
Lord Eddard "Ned" Stark [Sean Bean]
Ser Bronn of the Blackwater [Jerome Flynn]
Khal Drogo [Jason Momoa]
Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish [Aiden Gillen]
Ser Davos Seaworth [Liam Cunningham]
Ser Jorah Mormont [Iain Glen]
Prince Oberyn Martell [Pedro Pascal]
Ser Criston Cole [Fabien Frankel]
Lord Corlys Velaryon [Steve Toussaint]
Sandor "The Hound" Celgane [Rory McCann]
Jon Snow [Kit Harrington]
Gendry [Joe Dempsie]
Aemond Targaryen [Ewan Mitchell]
Tywin Lannister [Charles Dance]
But what of our Robins and Arthurs?
We began the Round with 3 of Each, but only one of each survived the round.
While Beowulf [Gerard Butler] bested King Arthur [Richard Harris] with a handy but respectful margin of 56.8%, Sean Connery's Arthur was unhorsed by Eomer [Karl Urban] in what can only be termed a crushing defeat, with a margin of 84.4% of the Vote. Only Bradley James's incarnation was able to defeat his opposition, Prince Henry [Dougray Scott], who, though strong contender, proved no match for Arthur's winning smile.
On the Robin side, our last Robin standing, is Cary Elwes, who defeated Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan with a tidy 70.8% margin. Richard Todd's stunningly attractive but lesser known Robin was defeated by the only remaining Son of York, Richard III [Aneurin Barnard], while the iconic Errol Flynn iteration was unhorsed (rather ironically) by one of the most appallingly unjust and underhanded aristocrats in the lists, Adhemar, Count of Anjou [Rufus Sewell]. We can neither confirm nor deny allegations made against the Count of cheating, nor the veracity of the rumours circulating that the Count's rather costly saddle was stolen from his tent at the end of the day while Adhemar was enjoying a flagon of wine with fellow victors Sir Guy of Gisbourne [Basil Rathbone], Sir Guy of Gisborne [Richard Armitage], the Sheriff of Nottingham [Alan Rickman] and His Royal Highness Prince John [Oscar Isaac].
Our third Sir Guy [Michael Wincott] did not join them, as he rather unfortunately lost his match against Sir Wilfred of Ivanhoe [Anthony Andrews] and, after a rather unpleasant exchange with his cousin the Sheriff, preferred to drink in the company of a different, more polite Sheriff [Peter Cushing] (who also lost his match against the Hound [Rory McCann]) and his friend Prince Prospero [Vincent Price].)
But I am sure some of your are curious as to how the Master of Revels' list of Secret Favourites is faring. Well, I can tell you, it sustained some heavy losses this round, though a still rather healthy 34 remain in the competition. Aye, but at what cost?

Hi! What did you think of the latest episode?
I really enjoyed Rhaenys' journey, though every scene from the harbor to her death was one heartbreak after another.
The only criticism: I would have appreciated another scene with Corlys, perhaps before heading to Rook's Rest. Personally, I think it's impossible - even if they were not in good times- that they didn't talk before Rhaenys went to Meleys, so it's a pity they didn't show us
I really, really enjoyed it. I've said it before but I'm the sort of person where, if I can see why a character is doing something, even if I don't agree with their actions or whatever it is, then I'm pretty happy. And, with this episode, knowing who Rhaenys is... I was more than happy. There wasn't a moment that felt off to me, there wasn't a moment I was questioning her. She remained who she always was and that's what is so heartbreaking about it.
It was heartbreaking. But, I think, it was also incredibly... I don't know if this is the right word or phrasing but all I can think of is it just showed how valiant she is. How strong and how resilient and how intelligent she is. How graceful. What a wonderful legacy for a character. The episode did what it should have done, which is to showcase what a formidable woman she really was and what her motivations were: she was compassionate, loving, shrewd, brave, confident, vulnerable, and a badass dragonrider.
Sadly, the more I think about it, the more I believe that there was probably a cut interaction between her and Corlys. Just from a couple of brief niggling things, the major one of which is:
Alan Taylor: "Parting with Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) is a big deal because neither of them knows what’s coming, but anything could happen."
Also Steve kept bigging up the idea that Corlys gave Rhaenys gifts as a way to communicate/apologise and I don't know if that's just his personal headcanon or something based in the text and, frankly, sir, I would like to know.
Whilst I would have loved to have seen this goodbye scene (if it does exist), I'm waiting on the next episode to make up my mind if it would be necessary - just because, despite not seeing it, there may be other ways we learn or can deduce exactly how they parted with each other.
We'll know from Corlys's response, we may hear of goodbyes that were had, we might just get information in other ways that aren't that goodbye scene. This will, arguably, be more likely if there wasn't a goodbye scene at all - because I think it's very important information for the audience.
We need to know where that relationship stood before it was cut short, and the Alyn scene doesn't do that job for the audience. It doesn't do that not only because it's not their last interaction on-screen (Corlys at the Painted Table is that, even if they don't speak) but also because that scene happens days before Rhaenys goes to Rook's Rest. It cannot, conceivably, be the last time they interact and so things have to move on.
Maybe we'll get script leaks again, when they're uploaded to the WGA Library. I, for one, would love to read them.

Day One (6/6)
Series Premise: What happened when Cassie met Sienna? Small moments that defined their friendship.
Book: Open Heart (post series) Characters: Cassie Valentine (F!MC), Sienna Trinh Rating/Category: Teen. Fluff. Words: 1,340
A/N: Submission to @choiceschallenge-may2023 prompt "I dos". I'm also using @choicesflashfics week 35, prompt 3 (in bold).
It was a beautiful day in July for a wedding. The sun was high in the sky, with a light breeze from the Atlantic Ocean tempering the heat. The scent of gardenias, violets and peonies perfumed the guest bedroom that had been converted into a bridal suite.
Earlier, the room had been full of people — seamstresses, hair and make-up technicians, cousins, mothers, grandmothers and their friends from Edenbrook.
Now, it was just the two of them for the final moments before her best friend walked outside to the gardens facing the sea, where she and Ethan Ramsey would say their vows.
Sienna Trinh slid an antique blue comb into the back of the sophisticated updo that made the most of Cassie Valentine’s spun gold hair and regal neck.
The comb, representing something blue, had belonged to Alan Ramsey’s mother. Cassie had tears when her future father-in-law told her he couldn’t think of anyone more worthy of carrying it into the next generation.
She stepped back to watch Cassie’s reflection in the full-length mirror, meeting her sparkling green eyes in the mirror. Sienna smiled, unable to hide the wonder at how magical her friend appeared in her champagne-colored wedding dress.
The beaded bodice and tulle skirt were reminiscent of Cassie’s love of ballet. Sienna knew the dress had belonged to her grandmother, updated for the occasion by the family seamstress.
“You look like a fairy princess,” she whispered in awe.
Sienna was grateful for these precious few minutes with her bestie and became teary-eyed at how their lives would inexplicably change after this day.
She thought of the job she had applied to in DC and the offer she had already received from Edenbrook. Depending on what happened between her and Max after the festivities this weekend, she had an important decision to make about where she belonged.
But that was for tomorrow. Today was about her best friend marrying her soulmate.
“Thank you,” Cassie said, squeezing Sienna’s hand in gratitude. “Ethan and I are so grateful, especially when we gave you and my mom so little time to plan this wedding properly.”
“Olivia is amazing!” Sienna enthused. “My head is still spinning from how organized she is. I don’t think anything or anyone fazes her.”
“Nothing fazes you either, Sienna,” Cassie grinned. “Remember when you rescued me from Ethan’s wrath that first day of residency?”
“I was shaking in my skids,” Sienna admitted, laughing at the memory. “I still can’t believe he never clued into the fact that Dr. Toussaint asking for him was a ruse.”
Cassie laughed. “Oh, he absolutely knew it was once he connected with Dr. T. But, he just chalked it up to interns being clueless and therefore unworthy of further attention.”
Sienna smiled at how much Dr. Ramsey had changed in the last four years. His bark was still scary, and residents knew not to get on his bad side. But he was utterly in love with her best friend and, outside the hospital, was a different person altogether.
“Anyway, my mom always said she was trained to be the perfect social hostess,” Cassie said, gazing at the mirror and smoothing her skirt. “She taught Max and me her ways, but I think she’s finally found the ideal person to pass on the Valentine social mantel.”
Sienna’s brows furrowed as she puzzled over that remark, missing the secret smile and knowing look in Cassie’s eyes. She wanted to ask her to explain, but a knock on the door interrupted the moment.
“That’ll be Max,” Cassie said. “Will you let him in, please?”
Sienna nodded absently, still bewildered at the hidden meaning. Later she forgot all about it as Max accompanied her down the carpeted aisle.
Before they took their places on either side of the floral arch, the back of his hand brushed against hers, butterfly soft. They shared a furtive smile and then turned to watch as the woman they both loved married her forever love.
Six months later…
It was a beautiful winter day with bright blue skies and puffy white clouds. After last week’s snowstorm, the temperatures were practically balmy for late December. So much so that Olivia Valentine opened up the second-floor patio in her home for Max and Sienna’s impromptu wedding.
Everything had to be perfect, even if they’d given their families five days to make it happen. As far as Cassie was concerned, her besties had taken forever to get together as a couple. So, a rushed wedding was really nature’s way of having them catch up.
She checked the floral arrangements, consulted with the staff about the music, asked them to add one more outdoor heater and taste-tested the canapes.
Cassie thought one couldn’t be too careful and gleefully bit into a tasty puff pastry filled with crab followed by fried mac n’ cheese squares and polished it off with mini eclairs.
“Cassie!”
Uh-oh, she grimaced before schooling her features.
Cassie spun on her heels to see her mom standing in the kitchen doorway, hands on her hips. The look on her face was one she remembered from their childhood, whenever she and Max got caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
“Stop eating all the canapes and go help Sienna get ready,” Olivia scolded, brows knit in exasperation. “The hair and make-up people are finished, and the seamstress is waiting to make final alterations to the dress.”
Cassie quickly swallowed the rest of the éclair and headed toward the backstairs, stealthily swiping another canape off the tray. She smiled in anticipation of the wedding cake to come.
Despite strawberries not being in season, Cassie had convinced the caterer to bake Sienna’s favorite Strawberry Shortcake Cake, festooned with wedding-themed frosting. What were a few extra thousand dollars to secure her friend’s happiness?
Her grandmother Myra had brought hyacinths from her conservatory at the Newport estate for Sienna’s bouquet. And Sienna’s grandfather had given her his late wife’s gold locket. It was a way to include her in the ceremony.
She needed to check on Max, too but figured he was in good hands with their dad for the time being. Right now, it was all about the bride.
As Cassie walked down the hall toward the guest room doubling as a bridal suite, she thought back to last summer. Sienna had been her maid of honor, and now they had come full circle six months later.
And in a few hours, her best friend would also become her sister.
Cassie knocked on the door, a perfunctory rap, before swinging it open and striding into the room. She stopped as if running into an invisible wall, and stared in wonder at the gorgeous wedding dress hanging perfectly on a white satin clothes hanger on the door of the wardrobe.
It wasn’t elaborate, nor did it have a long train; that wouldn’t suit Sienna’s tiny frame anyway. It was simple yet elegant with a sweetheart neckline and long lace-covered sleeves, as suited the season.
There hadn’t been time to try on dresses and find the perfect one, but Cassie thought they’d come close to perfection. She nodded thanks to the seamstress waiting to make any adjustments once Sienna got dressed and smiled widely at her bestie standing nervously near the window.
“Why are you smiling at me like that?” Sienna asked, fiddling with the collar of her silk robe.
“You’re going to be a beautiful bride, Si,” Cassie said. “Max is damn lucky to have you in his life. I know I am.”
She took the dress off the hanger. “Ready to marry your soulmate?”
Sienna brushed her hand down the soft material, her eyes turning dreamy at the thought of what was to come. She glanced at Cassie and smiled softly.
“I’m ready.”
Cassie crossed the floor and wrapped her arms around the woman who had been her Day One person from the moment they met. They had already been through so much together, but Cassie knew they were only just beginning.

A POLITICAL RENDEZVOUS at THE CLOISTERS
“Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.” ― George Orwell
About an hour after the guest’s arrival, the auction finally starts. Some come to share the money they have no other use for — others, to establish some sort of status, seek connections, or simply watch this odd species in its natural habitat.
While politicians lay the groundwork for a successful campaign, the law and the media follow closely behind, all with goals of their own. Weaving into the crowd also, are those with influence in the underworld. If you think they don’t have something to gain by blending in — you’re sorely mistaken.

ARIA BOUGHTON and [MEDIA CHARACTER B] are in conflict with each other. [PUBLIC FIGURE 1] has conceded to an interview, but to one person only. This isn’t an opportunity to pass up — and both will fight hard for it.
[GANG CHARACTER A] overhears [ENEMY A] and [ENEMY B] speaking of gang plans — and quickly passes the info onto FELIX SECADA.
ANAÏS MURAD approaches EVA MOVSKA about a potential hefty donation to their party. However, ANAÏS MURAD has a list of demands that need be met first, in order for the donation to be made.
ARCHER BROOKS makes the rounds to ensure that there is no bad PR that could possibly come from this. Targets include LEV MOVSKA and ZED MOVSKA, who look like the type to start trouble.
[MEDIA CHARACTER C] has their hands full tonight, what with so much fact-checking to be made for all articles breaking tomorrow. Naturally, they approach [CHARACTER D] to run through the details with. (Read: trying to catch them in a lie.)
[CHARACTER E] had been hoping to shake hands with someone involved in the government tonight, and ALAN DIETRICH fits the bill. If they can just gauge out all government strategy and how it impacts their business, then it’s time well spent. Of course, [CHARACTER E] has their own agenda also.
[LAW CHARACTER A] had heard through a rumor that DAMIEN TOUSSAINT, while not a criminal themselves, knows more than your average civilian. If they enough questions, maybe some will get answers.
[CHARACTER H] lets it slip that they know some hacking, and it peaks the interest of CALEB MORENO. Hey — knowing what their opponents are doing could be useful, that’s all.
[GANG CHARACTER C] has been avoiding EMILIO CARRASCO, until they cross paths. There’s an inkling or knowledge of their involvement with crime, and tensions rise.
MATHIAS CAIN gets a little too drunk and reveals a secret they weren't supposed to, and to the worst person possible: CLARK CAIN. What now?
KRISTEN PARRISH finds AVA M HOLLIS and VIA D’ANGELO talking in a room — and they want in on the secret.
[CHARACTER M] has their eye on a certain item up for auction, and they're determined to have it — the only problem is, [CHARACTER N] feels the same. Who will win the battle of paper and words?
IZARA LEVINE catches [CHARACTER P] stashing hors-d'œuvres in their pockets. Are they saving it for later, or are they up to something? Time will tell.
AXEL REYES and [ENEMY C] enter conflict. But they have to find a way to settle it without things getting violent — any slips, and they might just blow the cover of their entire operation.
ASK MEMES
While we don’t usually do them during events, here’s a list of approved ask memes that you’re free to reblog and use during this event, if you wish to! We ask that you only stick to this selection, and as always, be mindful of any spamming. <3

Of Sound Mind and Someone Else's Body
Amazon: Kindle and paperback
Alan Maitland thinks he’s The Man.
It’s taken him years to navigate the man-to-man, testosterone-soaked battleground of Wall Street politics. He’s had to fight tooth and nail to climb each rung of the corporate ladder. However, Alan’s always believed it’s going to be worth it - and tonight, he’s going to bed convinced he’s on the verge of finally breaking big.
But then, the impossible happens.
Alan awakens in an unfamiliar hotel room, with an unfamiliar man, and inhabiting an unfamiliar body. Somehow, he switched places with a beautiful young stranger - and right when she was getting intimate!
Meanwhile, across the city, high-class escort girl Hana Toussaint finds herself similarly transported - into a lush bed, in a luxurious penthouse, and into Alan’s body! The two of them have inexplicably traded places, and after the desperate scramble to track each other down, they quickly realize that neither of them knows why.
So begins the frantic search for a solution, and the struggle to maintain each other’s lives long enough to return to them. As ambitious Alan learns firsthand how society treats women, he also witnesses how deftly Hana guides the future of his high-flying career. Soon, he comes to realize that he’s developing feelings for the woman who became the man he used to be.
Of Sound Mind and Somebody Else’s Body is a fast-paced, provocative science fiction story for adults, which poses the divisive question: “Are you man enough to be a woman?”
