So ok, most of you have probably seen the original picture this is based on, I wanted to find the original source of the image for people to link back to but I CAN'T find it. Most immediate sources lead to a reddit or twitter post that showed it with no info on the source and I didn't want that to be the link. One reddit version linked this article from the LA Times but this version features none of the original images from the Culture Monster Blog post it comes from, nor does the achieved version in the way back website. I also tried to find the source of the image and here's the initial data I found on it and the source info on the first available version of it. 

Finally I found this article about a photographer and included in her work is a photo that has to be from the same photoshoot as the image I'm trying to source so I'm CERTAIN that's she's the photographer of it. So, to summarize this frustrating deep dive, I believe the photographer of the Twelfth Night Bisexual Kiss picture that became a meme is Brigitte Lacombe.

Perdiendo la cabeza chillando vomitando volviéndome loco pensando que Utterson se pasó buena parte d la novela creyendo q Hyde iba a matar a su mejor amigo, y en efecto eso fue lo q pasó pero tal vez. a lo mejor. SOLO TAL VEZ. si hubiera sabido qué estaba pasando, Hyde al menos seguiría vivo... al menos solo unos meses más antes de que le ejecutaran de todos modos pero......... pensar que Utterson se culpa de la muerte de su amigo. Que piensa una y otra vez q podría haber al menos rescatado el último residuo que quedaba de él.

I was thinking. As an oldest child myself, I suffer from oldest child syndrome.

Now, anyone who has been following my blog lately knows that I’ve been kinning Victor lately. This got me thinking.

Frankenstein Spoilers in the following explanation

Victor has two younger siblings biologically, plus Elizabeth— a sister figure. Out of these four, he is the oldest.

When thinking about Victor, his defining personality traits (other than sopping wet and pathetic) are anxious, perfectionistic, solitary, obsessive, a little egotistical, etc etc.

Funny thing is, all of these traits are associated with eldest child syndrome. Typically, these are brought on by high parental expectations. Now, as a C*roline and Al*ones hater, it’s pretty obvious that their expectations for Victor were a little much. I mean, Caroline’s dying wish was to control Victor’s love life. Alphonse preserved this wish, even reminding Victor of this said wish while he is recovering from his arrest and death of his closest friend. Alphonse and Caroline are also probably homophobic, I will not be taking criticism at this time.

That being said, there’s almost no question as to why Victor hardly talks to his family in Ingolstadt. Why he obsesses over his work, freaks out when it’s not up to his standards, abandons the paternal role he’s been forced into all his life. Also explains why he’s only miserable when it comes to marrying Elizabeth, and doesn’t argue about it at all. And why he’s so close to Clerval, someone who genuinely seems to care for his opinions and wishes.

I dunno. It’s definitely a theory that should be thought into.

My #1 post of 2022

So I saw a post that kind of made me want to post this.

I feel like there’s a lot of gatekeeping in the J&H fandom. I’ve see a lot of posts like “you’re wrong if you like TGS” “you’re not valid in the fandom if you interpret the duality differently” “we don’t stan if you think Jekyll is cis.”

It feels really toxic, imo. I interpret the story differently than others, and that’s fine. A lot of the story is really open ended and up for interpretation. Specifically with the second point with the duality, I’ve seen hate on the “Jekyll has OCD” interpretation on here in the past, and like? Why?

While that’s personally the interpretation I choose to agree with, that’s not what I’m talking about in this post. There’s really no need to hate on seeing the book differently. As with most other fandoms, you’re not looking at the big picture. There’s a group of people who enjoy the same media as you, and you’re really just going to trash their opinions?

I dunno. I don’t really have a solid point I’m getting at. It just pisses me off. I have a lot of opinions about the book that I’m afraid to share, and I’m sure tons of others do too.

Please be nice y’all. It’s not like Stevenson is coming back from the grave to confirm any interpretation is right.

Buongiorno lettori ❤️‍🔥 ~ Incredibilmente sono riuscita ad inserire anche il nuovo post, dedicato a niente meno che “Lo strano caso del Dottor Jekyll e Mr Hyde”, il romanzo più famoso di R. L. Stevenson ✍🏻 ~ La storia ruota attorno alla figura del Dottor Jekyll, lodato da tutti per le sue grandi qualità morali, che grazie ad una pozione, riesce a dare forma alla parte più malvagia di sé. Nasce così Mr Hyde, uomo spregevole e intimidatorio al solo sguardo, che diventa l’alterego del dottore fino a prendere il sopravvento sulla sua parte buona. 😇😈 ~ Da anni era mia intenzione leggere questo grande classico della letteratura di fantascienza. Tra l’anno scorso e il nuovo ho recuperato un po’ di opere, capisaldi di vari generi, che avevo perso. In particolare, con “Lo strano caso del Dr Jekyll e Mr Hyde”, ho scoperto un romanzo molto scorrevole ed appassionante. I personaggi che ruotano attorno ai protagonisti sono essenziali nella storia e delineati molto bene, le descrizioni poi chiudono una cornice che rende il tutto ancora più fantastico e persino gotico in alcuni aspetti. Ho amato molto sia Jekyll che Hyde, le due facce della stessa medaglia, al pari di Utterson, il quale riporta alla memoria l’intera vicenda. Rhet: torna il romanzo fantascientifico

Era il 2021, quando noi di Vortici.it, abbiamo incontrato e portato alla vostra attenzione un romanzo molto particolare intitolato Elbrus, uscito a Ottobre 2020 per Armando Curcio Editore.

I due autori Marco Capocasa e Giuseppe Di Clemente riprendono ciò che noi definiamo sodalizio creativo e pubblicano la loro ultima fatica letteraria intitolata: Rhet, uscito recentemente per Edizioni Dialoghi – Gruppo Editoriale Utterson.

Rhet è il prequel(racconto, il cui contenuto intende proporre gli antefatti di una storia facente parte di un ciclo), di Elbrus. Parliamo di una nuova avventura fantascientifica ambientata prevalentemente sul pianeta extrasolare che dà il titolo al romanzo, dove prospera una civiltà aliena costituita da tre popoli: i , esploratori dello spazio, i , operosi e dediti all’economia di sussistenza e alle infrastrutture, e i , reietti esiliati in un’isola – continente dove vivono in condizioni tecnologiche e culturali arretrate. Il lettore di Rhet si troverà a seguire vicende che si sviluppano in un futuro remoto, scoprendo pagina dopo pagina le vite di tre personaggi, ciascuno appartenente ad uno dei tre popoli. Le loro vicissitudini un poco alla volta finiscono per intrecciarsi, divenendo indissolubilmente legate nel corso di un viaggio nello spazio profondo che li porterà in un sistema solare a loro ignoto, verso un destino comune, verso l’origine stessa della loro civiltà. Scegliamo di pubblicare la sinossi degli autori in versione integrale, per farvi scoprire quanto sia avvincente la trama: Al tempo della narrazione (Scisat) è una femmina appartenente alla comunità che, insofferente alle rigide tradizioni del suo popolo, vive un difficile rapporto con la sua famiglia. (Gailmora), invece, sopravvive alla caduta e viene recuperato in mare e venduto come schiavo ad una ricca matrona. Mentre è al suo servizio come maschio di piacere conosce un ministro del culto del Creatore, un , il quale lo indirizza verso le Porte del Cosmo, un luogo di frontiera immaginifico attraverso il quale è possibile oltrepassare i limiti del mondo conosciuto. (Gailmora), spinto dal dolore dell’amore perduto e dall’attuale condizione di schiavo, intraprende il viaggio e supera le Porte del Cosmo fino a raggiungere un’isola dove vede cose incomprensibili, ai suoi occhi un luogo dimora degli dèi: vede un mostro di metallo volteggiare e toccare il suolo vicino a una torre di vetro. Il mostro di metallo non è altro che l’astronave che ha fatto porto sull’isola di prima di dirigersi verso la luna di . (Gailmora) sale a bordo dell’astronave prima del suo decollo. Allo sbarco sulla luna (Gailmora) viene scoperto e trattenuto. È talmente sconcertante che un reietto (ovvero un discendente dei deportati) sia riuscito a lasciare , il continente oltre l’oceano, che la notizia della sua fuga e della sua presenza su viene tenuta segreta, anche e soprattutto perché solo una ristretta élite dei popoli di è a conoscenza che su esista tuttora una discendenza dei deportati ere or sono, poiché è pubblicamente noto che i deportati morirono tutti nel giro di poche generazioni. Invece la discendenza dei deportati si è articolata in popoli dalle variegate culture dimoranti in regni, città e porti. Ma la barbarie è stata tuttavia perpetrata dalle élite impedendo ad ogni nave, sempre grazie a quella rete di satelliti, di allontanarsi oltre un certo limite da . Nel frattempo, sulla luna , l’equipaggio che salirà sull’astronave è stato arricchito di nuovi membri provenienti da in vista di una missione che ha come scopo l’esplorazione, la scoperta di forme aliene intelligenti e, se possibile, il rintraccio dei Fondatori. Fra loro c’è (Scisat) che, fra le varie attività di formazione svolte sulla luna prima della partenza, entra in contatto empatico-telepatico con uno degli esseri alieni ospiti nella struttura lunare, appartenente ad una specie, i , scoperta molto tempo prima su un esopianeta, che per mutua utilità ha lasciato che alcuni suoi membri dimorassero sulla luna rhetiana per approfondire la reciproca conoscenza. Su nuove dinamiche politiche e spinte sociali stanno destabilizzando i tradizionali equilibri fra i popoli e . In uno storico incontro, infine, vengono rimossi vecchi limiti permettendo ai l’accesso a professioni e ruoli istituzionali fin ad allora preclusi. Così, si apre per la   (Kazikaa) uno scenario nuovo che le permette di sottoporre la propria candidatura per la missione prossima alla partenza. Viene selezionata ed entra a far parte dell’equipaggio. La permanenza del reietto su è un problema che viene superato facilmente. Viene deciso dai vertici che (Gailmora) sia imbarcato per la spedizione e sia oggetto di studio durante il lungo viaggio. A (Scisat) e (Kazikaa) viene affidato dal comandante l’incarico di studiare segretamente il sotto ogni punto di vista. Durante il viaggio (Gailmora) apprende la lingua di e riceve rudimenti di scienze e tecnologia. Quando diviene “utilizzabile”, il comandante non esita ad aggregarlo a missioni esterne quale pedina sacrificabile. Le due scienziate apprendono tutto ciò che è possibile dal profugo sul suo mondo di provenienza. In ogni caso lavorano moltissimo sull’aspetto fondamentale che lo distingue dalla gente di , cioè l’incapacità di comunicare per mezzo di . Ma questo aspetto rivela novità sorprendenti. Si manifestano segni di cambiamento in lui, qualcosa lascia credere che il abbia iniziato a percepire qualcosa, con debolezza e in modo confuso. E, forse, proprio questa primordiale sensibilità a , ripercorrendo le allucinazioni e le situazioni che già lo avevano stimolato a lasciare la propria patria, lo ha messo nelle condizioni di fuggire. Insomma, qualcosa già serpeggiava ed ora, durante il confronto serrato e quotidiano con le scienziate, sta maturando e rivelandosi progressivamente. Si tratta di una scoperta sensazionale. Durante la navigazione, già quando si è prossimi ai sistemi di stelle obiettivo della missione perché potenzialmente ritenuti capaci di ospitare la vita intelligente, un segnale scuote il comandante e segna il destino della missione. Proveniente da uno di quei sistemi di stelle, un segnale senza alcun dubbio artificiale viene captato da . Il Comandante assegna la nuova rotta verso il pianeta in orbita della modesta stella . Durante la navigazione, nella fascia esterna di quel sistema, un ennesimo e nuovo segnale artificiale alimenta ulteriore fermento nell’equipaggio. Proviene da un punto situato nello spazio profondo ed è sprigionato da una fessurazione spazio-temporale, cioè una singolarità che crea un ponte capace di collegare istantaneamente due punti lontanissimi nell’universo. Nel tentativo di non tralasciare nulla, il Comandante, mantenendo la rotta verso , invia una navetta esplorativa verso la sorgente del nuovo segnale. Dell’equipaggio della missione fanno parte anche le due scienziate e (Gailmora). Soprattutto, ne è stata messa a capo proprio la femmina (Kazikaa) che, durante il viaggio, ha saputo emergere e farsi apprezzare dal Comandante. Ma quando la navetta è prossima alla fessurazione, l’astronave viene colpita irrimediabilmente da uno sciame di asteroidi che ne perforano lo scafo e la danneggiano gravemente. L’equipaggio della navetta esplorativa è impotente di fronte al disastro che si consuma pochi istanti prima che la fessurazione sia attraversata. Una volta oltre, l’equipaggio della navetta è irrimediabilmente solo e non riesce a spiegarsi come mai, pur avendo attraversato quella che è stata identificata come una fessurazione spazio-temporale, la navetta è rimasta nello stesso luogo. è scomparsa ma tutti gli astri di riferimento sono là, a significare che non è stato effettuato alcun balzo verso qualche zona remota. È questo è inspiegabile. Ma ancora più scioccante è l’avvistamento di strutture enormi che, incrociando nello spazio, intercettano la navetta e, lentamente, la catturano. È chiaro fin da subito all’equipaggio di essere venuti a contatto con una popolazione aliena. La navetta viene condotta all’interno di una di quelle gigantesche navi. Convinta che gli alieni vogliano stabilire un contatto, (Kazikaa) dispone che assieme a lei scendano anche (Scisat) e (Gailmora), in rappresentanza dei tre popoli di . Scendendo dalla navetta nessuno di loro poteva immaginare di trovarsi di fronte a esseri viventi con fattezze tali e quali alle loro. Finalmente, i rhetiani hanno trovato i Fondatori. Hallo daar

Ondertussen ben ik bij pagina 91. Ik heb het boek erg traag gelezen dus herriner me niet exact wat er allemaal gebeurt is maar daar wilde ik deze keer toch niet over schrijven. Waar ik het wel over wil hebben, is hoe ik denk dat dit boek gehandeld gaat worden.

Voor context: op dit moment gelooft dhr Utterson en de butler van dr Jekyll dat mr Hyde dood is (Hyde heeft chemikalien recht voor hun neus opgedroken en is vervolgens neer gevallen) en Jekyll hoogst waarschijnlijk ook.

Ik weet natuurlijk al enkele dingen over het verhaal doordat ik een lied van de musical adaptatie hiervan ken en daardoor heb ik enkele vermoedens.

Ik geloof niet dat Hyde en Jekyll dood zijn ookal dat eigenlijk ook goed mogelijk is. Dit heeft ook niet echt te maken met mijn punt/vraag maar ik wilde het toch noteren.

Dus, wat is dan waar ik het absoluut over wilde hebben? Nou, dat is over hoe dit verder gaat worden behandeld.

Dit boek heeft duidelijk met moraal te maken aangezien een lichaam een slecht en een goed persoon die in het leven, maar ik verwachtte aan het begin dat dit boek meer over de morale dilemma's ging gaan van Jekyll, die weet dat er kwaad in hem leeft waar hij geen controle over heeft. Die gedachte klopt denk ik niet aangezien ik weinig heb gelezen over Jekkyls gedachten.

Dus, nu is mijn vermoeden dat het zal gaan over hoe een buitenstaander, in dit geval Utterson, om moet/kan/gaat gaan met een persoon welke duele karakter eigenschappen heeft(natuurlijk in het boek zelf twee verschillende personen is) en tot hoeverre je je niets kan aantrekken van het kwade in een persoon om het goede in hun te beschermen.

Dece speculatie kan natuurlijk flauwekul zijn en heb ik volgens mij niet zeer goed verwoord maar ik hoop dat het toch een beetje begrijpelijk is.

Verder denk ik dat ik voor dit boek de kijkdoos opdracht zal doen aangezien ik alle paar creatieve ideeën ervoor heb.

  "The House of Scientific Commerce (HOSC) was founded by one Abraham Van Helsing in 2016 after the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, Victor Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. [Redacted] Griffin, and Time Traveler cases were just starting to be looked into by the Mission Persons investigative committee (MPIC). 

  The Committee was in turn founded by Gabriel John Utterson and Alfred Poole, two people who have been stated as knowing the aforementioned chemist Dr. Jekyll, after his whole PSS-16 experiment seemingly failed and thus took it as their first case. Utterson already being his lawyer and childhood best friend gave them a bit of a head start in trying to solve the case. 

  Poole, on the other hand, had been working under both Jekyll and Utterson for some time, also giving him a head start with the case. He had even helped Utterson figure out the connection between the doctor and… whatever Hyde is. 

  To start, the doctor had been experimenting with ways to "split the psyche" so to speak. Even though he ran a multitude of blood tests (to make sure it didn't kill him when he took it), he had no way to know that the main objective would be completed. He had also inadvertently made weapons for the military in the process of these blood trials (The strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde| Dr. Ilonna Marchal et al. August 2022). Something called a "blood boiler" being a horrifying example of one such chemical. 

  The reasoning behind the potion (the aforementioned PSS-16) was a classic case of untreated repression among a history of other untreated health issues (paranoia and delusions being prominent examples). As Dr. Jack Seward (MD, administrator of an insane asylum near Carfax, England, and psychiatrist) put it, "That Dr. Jekyll is said to have a history of trauma and unhealthy coping mechanisms, given that information,  I'm surprised he didn't follow through with the poisoning when he was about to be caught." I'm no psychologist but I'm pretty sure that's not something you say about someone who is clearly dealing with a lot, especially if you yourself are supposed to be helping them through it. 

  Blatant ableism aside, we do have notes from the doctor himself and a few from his colleagues at the Arcane Studies Society (yes we know what the acronym would be, no I don't think he would name it that intentionally. Hyde would have though, that's for sure). The notes in question detail the ingredients needed, how goddamn long it took to make, how much longer it took to find chemical salt that had another essential ingredient in it after the first batch was done (some unknown impurities that somehow made it work), and more. 

  One such note was from Marishka Bondar, one of the society's techies (although most people call her an engineer), that starts with a note on the name (PSS stands for "psyche splitting serum" and the dash 16 is interrupted as meaning "made in 2016"), she also notes the ingredients:

The aforementioned impurities (that make the transformation work somehow, I don't know I'm not a chemist or an anatomist, I'm just a journalist)

Something called "base 13" (again I'm just a journalist, so I have no idea) 

  From there she goes on to say something about the military stuff as follows, "...he has made more potions but this one is the most famous as it is the latest and most public formula (also it went tits up so that helps too). Apparently, he has also made some for the military (blood boiler, flash freeze, agglutination, etc.) which, Jesus Christ man. Also, they probably gave him hush money in exchange for chemical warfare." 

  Now, I agree with her sentiment about the idea of something that literally makes your blood boil while it's still in you, but considering this is a public news source I'm not too fond of the inclusion of the holy spirit's name and reference to female chest's but I digress….." the article continues but the writer is noted as being Per Sundt, a Norwegian journalist, and apparently a member of the morality police.

  "Look, someone as Puritan as you," Gwen started, just as tired of censorship as the next person in their line of work, "Maybe you two could be friends." 

  The house members were sitting around the table, with the detective reading the article out loud to everyone. He had to look into where they got this information and what other information they might have on the house, for safety reasons obviously.

  Van Helsing was worried for his brother, as worried as anyone can humanly be without fainting (looking at you Victor), but still worried. He had no idea his former student and friend would say that about him, especially given his profession.

  "Really, that's what you're getting from this?" the chemist in question replied, unsure what this meant for him.

  "She probably wants to distract you from the fact that this could get you arrested if you're not careful." the detective let out while also having the same kind of thought, I mean they put it in the article, why comment on it right there? Also, where did Marishka, or Ilonna for that matter, get the information about the military transactions? I mean Marishka wouldn't dare work for the government, it goes against her whole shtick. What about Ilonna, does she work for the government, if she does why didn't Mycroft tell me just in case we ran into each other? Does he know I'm alive too? Did the transactions even happen in the first place? 

  Sherlock wasn't the only one, if everyone else could read his mind right now they would have (mostly) the same questions. The group had to be careful as any wrong move could tick anyone off and it could be traced right back to them. Jekyll's serums, as the article refuses to call them, were a prime example of what could be used as evidence. 

  Now that people knew that he was alive, it was only a matter of time before the MPIC found them. No one would know what they would do to them when they did, but rest assured… 

they would have a plan.

This took me ALL FUCKING DAY!!!! Then I had to do formatting bullshit, the story duplicated itself somehow and I only realized it when I suddenly had to format it again and when I actually realized this, I had to go and delete everything PARAGRAPH BY PARAGRAPH!!!

Hallo daar

Nieuw schooljaar, nieuwe boeken om over te schrijven. Dit jaar lees ik schuld van ikweetnietmeer, met huid en haar van marita de sterck en laatst de zonderlinge geschiedenis van Dr. Jekyll en Mr. Hyde van R. L. Stevenson. Dat laatst is ook waarmee ik begin.

Ik had eerst een ander vertaald boek gekozen maar toen ik op zangles was zong mijn medeleerling een liedje uit de musical jekyll en hyde. Ik had al eerder van jekyll en hyde gehoord en werd benieuwd naar waar het vandaag kwam. Toen vond ik dit boek, de uitvinding van Jekyll en Hyde.

Normaal gezien ben ik geen liefhebber van boeken dat over het goede en kwade gaan, de filosofie ervan vind ik verschrikkelijk nutteloos om over te denken. Maar dit vind ik toch bijzonder een bijzonder boek omdat het thriller elementen mixt met dit thema. Daarnaast wil ik graag wat klassiekers lezen en aangezien dit boek in 1886 is geschreven zou ik het dat wel noemen. (De volgende op mijn lijst klassiekers is "No longer human" van Dazai Osamu)

Ik ben nu op pagina 30 van het boek en ben zeer tevreden met hoe het boek niet treuzelt aan het begin en het je gelijk meetrekt in waar het verhaal over gaat.

Wat ik niet verwacht had is dat jekyll en hyde niet de belevende personages zijn tot nu toe maar ipv hen is dat ene Mr. Utterson. Ook worden de twee als andere mensen gezien en van wat ik weet zijn ze monster en mens in een lichaam, dus ik ben benieuwd hoe de schrijver ze als een wezen zal voorbeelden, waarom zijn jekyll en hyde met elkaar verbonden?

Ik heb echt veel zin in dit boek en tot de volgende!
