Graphic design artist Moataz Abu Sakran/ @moatazart has provided extensive documentation of the genocide against Gaza. His photos and videos have been used—often without credit—by major media outlets, and his posts are featured on this blog regularly.
Moataz and his wife and baby girl are trapped in the vicinity of Al-Shifa Hospital complex. The area has was under complete siege for 13 days, and made life even more difficult and dangerous than before. In addition to the physical violence of the siege, the occupation’s famine has made food extremely scarce—Moataz and Mariam can no longer find milk and nutritious food for baby Maria.
They were able to raise enough funds to begin the paperwork involved in evacuating to Egypt, but exorbitant processing fees have totally depleted the money they had reserved to find a place to stay in Egypt. They need funds to procure food and shelter while they rebuild their lives in Egypt (God willing), otherwise they will be homeless and destitute.
There was an increase in donations after we initially shared the link on this blog. We are hoping that will happen again. Please support Moataz’s family via this link so that they can reach safety. Even just a few dollars will help. If you can’t donate, please share the link on all your social media accounts.
This is the primary link to donate and share. You can copy and paste it onto other posts and social media sites.

Al-Shifa’s legacy destroyed: “This is such a sad day, I’ve been weeping all morning.” Norwegian Dr Mads Gilbert says
Norwegian physician Dr Mads Gilbert, who has spent extensive time working in Gaza, including at al-Shifa hospital, says the siege of the facility has destroyed its legacy. “The Israeli occupation forces this night have ended 78 years of brave medical history,” Gilbert told Al Jazeera, speaking from Tromso, Norway. The hospital was built in 1946 and was the most important flagship hospital for the healthcare for people in Gaza, he said. “This is such a sad day, I’ve been weeping all morning.” Meanwhile, the fate of the 107 critical patients who were moved two days ago to an old part of the medical complex remains unknown, Gilbert said. People are now searching for corpses at the site, finding “the most horrible decomposed corpses with maggots coming out of the eyes”. “The maggots that are creeping out of the corpses in al-Shifa Hospital now are really maggots coming out of the eyes of President Biden and the EU leaders doing nothing to stop this horrible, horrible genocide,” the physician said.

Palestinian woman says Israeli forces raped and killed women at al-Shifa...
Please watch this. Listen to her horrific descriptions, this is actually HAPPENING to people as the world leaders continue this so they can get more money in their pockets. This should make you restless, this should make you speak out and make every action you can.
We can't let them get away with this.

From 16 Nov WH Press Briefing
Q: Can you just detail for us what kind of evidence the U.S. has seen that Hamas has a command center under Al-Shifa Hospital? Biden: No, I can’t tell you. I won’t tell you. Journalist: Do you feel absolutely confident based on what you know — Biden: Yes. Journalist: — that that is the truth? Biden: Yes. Journalist: And, Mr. President, after today, would you still refer to President Xi as a “dictator”? This is a term that you used earlier this year. Biden: Well, look, he is. I mean, he’s a dictator in the sense that he — he is a guy who runs a country that — it’s a communist country that is based on a form of government totally different than ours. Anyway, we made progress.

Al-Shifa Hospital is besieged by the Israeli occupation army... again!
جيش الاحتلال النازي يُحاصر مستشفى الشفاء في مدينة غزة مرَّة أخرى!
The world's silence about what Israel did to Al-Shifa Hospital the first time, including siege, storming, and arresting doctors, patients, and displaced persons, bombing its buildings, and putting it out of service. Then the silence regarding the siege of the hospital for the second and third time..
All of this allowed Israel to do whatever it wanted, to kill everyone it wanted... to arrest everyone it wanted... and to put international laws under its feet.

18 March 2024
Multiple sources report that the IOF, while simultaneously bombarding with planes and drones, is storming Al-Shifa Hospital Complex with ground troops and tanks. They are shooting into the hospital and at least one building is on fire. The situation is still developing and I will update as I get more information.

Al-Shifa Hospital is a ‘big prison’, says director
Nov 17th, 12:25 GMT
As Israel continues its raid of al-Shifa Hospital, the director of al-Shifa says the medical compound has become a “big prison” and a “mass grave” for all those inside.
Muhammed Abu Salmiya tells Al Jazeera that there are 7,000 people in the hospital and staff are still working to help patients but they “lost all those who were in the intensive care unit”.
“We are left with nothing, no power, no food, no water. with every passing minute, we are losing a life. Overnight we lost 22 persons, [and] for the past three days the hospital has been kept under siege,” Salmiya said.
He added that they have appealed to leave the hospital but are being denied by Israeli forces.
“It’s a war crime. A full-fledged war crime,” he said.

"The words of our martyrs, scrawled on the walls of Al Shifa Hospital on each of the 14 days that the medical complex was under Zionist siege. In photographing the remains of the hospital, reporters and residents have found messages from doctors, staff, and patients alike, as well as Palestinians who lost their homes and were sheltering within the hospital’s walls.
May every martyr’s words be a torch on the path to liberation. May we never forgive or forget."

No commentator on 7 October last year - myself included - would have predicted that the war would still be being fought with the utmost ferocity a year on. No one would have predicted a year ago that Israel would be fighting for longer than it did when it established its state in 1948. All wars Israel has fought since have been brief shows of absolute strength. [...]
Under Netanyahu’s right-wing government, the lives of the hostages were secondary to the aim of smashing Hamas. Had the hostages returned, Netanyahu could now be facing a long term in prison. But he has demonstrably failed to smash Hamas, hence the speed with which he has started a new war with Lebanon and Hezbollah. [...] Hamas re-emerges wherever Israeli troops are not. Plain clothes police officers emerge to settle disputes within a matter of hours.
At first, Israel tried to wipe out Hamas’s leadership. It has killed the first and second ranks of officials running the government, most of them in a massacre outside al-Shifa hospital.
But an insight into what is actually going on in Gaza was offered by Israel's latest announcement that it had killed three senior Hamas officials - Rawhi Mushtaha, the head of government and de facto prime minister; Sameh al-Siraj, who held the security portfolio on Hamas’s political bureau; and Sami Oudeh, commander of Hamas’s General Security Mechanism. The air strike happened three months ago, and no one had noticed their absence. This is because Hamas continued to function regardless of which leaders were alive or dead. [...]
Israel’s terror only begets more terror. The destruction of West Beirut in 1982 inspired Osama bin Laden’s attack on the Twin Towers in 2001. [...]
On 6 October, the Palestinian national cause was dead, if not buried. After more than 30 years of Oslo accords, Gaza was totally isolated. Its siege was permanent, and no one cared. Netanyahu claimed victory, in September 2023 waving a map at the UN in which the West Bank did not exist. There was only one item on the regional agenda and that was Saudi Arabia’s impending normalisation with Israel. [...]
Today, Hamas has changed the course of events, because the peaceful path to a viable Palestinian state was blocked. All talk of a peace process was a Potemkin-size mirage. Oslo not only failed to deliver a Palestinian state. It created the conditions for the Israeli state to expand and thrive as never before in the West Bank and Jerusalem. [...]
Regionally, the axis of resistance, which for much of the period since the Arab Spring, was a rhetorical device, has become a functioning military alliance. [...]
Palestine has returned to its rightful place, which is to occupy the key role in determining the stability of the region.
Israel’s brutal response to 7 October has reversed decades of Israeli and US efforts to convince Arabs that Palestine could no longer have a veto on Israeli-Arab relations. Today that veto is stronger than ever before. [...]
Of the two strategies, Sinwar’s seems to be working. Whether he lives or dies, that agenda already has an unstoppable momentum of its own. [...]
This war has stripped Israel of its liberal Zionist image, the image of the new kid on the block trying to defend itself in a “tough neighbourhood”. This has been replaced by the image of a regional ogre, a genocidal state, with no moral compass, using terror to survive. Such a state cannot live in peace with its neighbours. It crushes and dominates to survive.
Netanyahu’s war is short-term and tactical. Sinwar’s war is long-term. It is to make Israel realise it can never keep the lands it has occupied if it wants peace.
Netanyahu’s war is a year old and can only continue in the same way it started by meting out the same devastation to south Lebanon that Gaza received. It has no reverse gear. Sinwar’s war has only just started.
How Netanyahu stole defeat from the jaws of victory: Netanyahu's brutal response to 7 October has undone decades of increasingly successful efforts by Israel and the US to convince Arab governments to abandon the Palestinian national cause.

the situation in khan younis (southern gaza) is getting worse and worse everyday with israel trying to push more palestinians into rafah (the designed ‘safe zone’ which btw they have also been relentlessly bombing for weeks). doctors are performing open surgery at al-nasser hospital in the middle of power cuts and amputations while under siege and constant bombing around it. journalist saleh al jafarawi (@/saleh_aljafarawi on ig) is still in khan younis so he reports on the situation there - it is deteriorating rapidly and the number of injured and martyrs is huge. palestinians are getting sniped trying to retrieve loved ones and flee once again while carrying white flags, a repeat of what they lived when forced to evacuate from hospitals and homes in northern gaza. after succeeding in forcibly displacing palestinians from khan younis, israeli quad copters opened fire on them. palestinians are digging mass graves at al-nasser hospital for the martyrs. al-nasser itself is on the brink of collapse, in the same state al-shifa hospital in the north was, and today, after a day of non-stop bombings on khan younis, journalist mohammed el helo (@/mo_elhelo21 on ig), reports that al-nasser cannot deal with the huge volume of injured and displaced palestinians it is receiving
