The 1763 Berbice Slave Revolt was a rebellion that took place in the Dutch colony of Berbice, which is now part of Guyana:
Who led the revolt: The revolt was led by Cuffy, a Coromantin man who was enslaved and trafficked from West Africa, and his deputy Akra.
When did it happen: The revolt began on February 27, 1763 and lasted until 1764.
What happened: The rebels set fire to plantations, killed Europeans, and took over food stores and households. The rebels gained control of the colony until the Dutch army arrived.
What was the outcome: The Dutch regained the colony and executed 125 men and 3 women.
Tumblr media
What caused the revolt: The revolt was caused by extreme labor conditions, tropical diseases, food shortages, and planter brutality.
What was the impact: The revolt had a significant impact in the Dutch Republic, where it was widely reported in the press. It also foreshadowed later insurrections, such as the Haitian slave rebellion.
What is the legacy: The anniversary of the revolt, February 23, is Republic Day in Guyana, and Cuffy is a national hero.

I heroforged the entire Blackscale clan (sans the kids, including Lambda and Reownha) as royal guardsmen, for my Princess Lambda roleswap AU. I think they turned out great. Notable changes include swapping weapons– mostly dexterity-based weapons for strength-based weapons, and I added a shield to Quespa's kit. Sekkala and Nethox keep daggers in their off-hands for the main gauche effect with their sword in the main hand.
Please do notice that Madre is in this overconfident 'come at me bro' pose with her huge chest and hips. Listen. She is still the group thot, and regrets nothing.

An 'Akra Devi', a standing female figurine, adorned with bangles and a heavy beaded necklace, in coarse pottery with a dark red slip, standing without feet in an oval frame, hands raised in Añjali Mudrā. This last characteristic is very common in the Akra Devi range, but some of these devis have their arms by their sides. The back is flat and plain and the base is always concave and exhibiting broken edges as here. It is likely that this figure was arranged standing, in a row of others, on the shoulder of a large pottery vessel (see Khan, Knox and Thomas, 2000). These items are known only from Akra and adjacent sites in the Bannu area, and have never been discovered in a strictly dateable archaeological context. The piece is marked on the back with 'Akra', a great ancient city site in Bannu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, about 110 miles south of Peshawar. The origins of Akra are iron age, through the Achaemenids, and all that follow, to its demise in the 10th century under Mahmud of Ghazni. Archaeological context: presumably unstratified and from a surface collection. These pieces are difficult to date and may be as late as the 3rd to 5th centuries, though it is argued that there is a sequence detectable in the corpus ranging from the early more sophisticated types to the later less well made.
