Sometimes, it is rather better not to look back, because I can no longer see you, nor feel you inside my heart, knowing that my heart only beats for nothing and no one, that it is only a physiological function, rather than, beating for someone like you and make me feel sad about things. And sometimes, I wonder, looking at the night sky, and realize that this is the only way— to close my eyes and reimagine you once more and let it go, to let you go, letting the wind take you and far from my sight.

Chapter 2; Supernatural Detectives
“For people who want supernaturals dead, they sure did their research,” Dylan joked. “Yeah,” Niya agreed, tucking a piece of her dark hair behind her ear. The group was soon at the next murder scene, Hazel Beau’s. “Okay, before we see anything we don’t need to, does anyone know how a fae is killed?” Jack asked, putting his hands in his pocket. “Uh, you have to remove the heart..” Aiden stated, the group looked uncomfortable, though they knew they wouldn’t find a body or a heart. Moving throughout the scene, they saw a lot of purple blood, most common type for supernaturals. When they got to the body outline, Ember took a picture. “Are those, foot prints?” Dylan questioned “No, it looks like a symbol.” Niya stated, it had eight arrows, all going in different directions, it was made out of the newly green leaves from the trees around. Ember quickly took a picture of it, stashing it with the others. After they went back to the dorms, Niya had a pinboard they could use in hers and Ember’s dorm. Niya had pinned the pictures onto the board, with a few papers they had printed out of the police reports.
One side had Ethan Grace’s pictures and reports, the other, Hazel Beau’s, and under both was the reports of the others killed. “What now?” “We should ask their friends,” Ember answered Jack. “But wouldn’t that be suspicious? Especially if we just ask about people’s dead friends.” Dylan said. “Oh! I know what we can do! There used to be a news team here, we could um, we started it up again?” Aiden announced, though it sounded like a question. The group decided to use the news team as a cover up, somehow managing to convince the headmistress because of Niya’s ‘new kid’ status. The group walked into the room, it was full of old news stuff and boxes. Ember sighed “Look,” she started “Is a room full of dust a boxes really a good cover-up for solving a crime?” Ember questioned “it probably isn’t but it’s our best option.” Niya started, as close as Aiden was to Ember, he never made her change her mind as quickly as Niya just did. It was weird. After a while of repairing the room, it looked good, no more boxes, dust, and the group even got air freshener! Niya decided to ask the questions, as she would be the face of this, Ember went with her, the group thought it would be best because Ember was very well-known. As Ember and Niya were walking, Niya put on lipgloss, to Ember, her lips her pink and plump. Of course, she looked away as quickly as possible. They went up to Ethan’s best friend, Cove Pernil, “Cove, right?” Niya asked. Cove nodded.
His messy blonde hair looked like he just ran seventy miles. “We’re the new NEWS and kinda newspaper team, are you okay with answering a few questions about Ethan?” “Sure” Cove answered Ember. “Did he tell you about anything strange going on?” Niya pulled out a note pad. “No,” Cove said, “He’s always been pretty closed off for a werewolf.” Cove continued, “May we see some pictures from before he—y’know?” Niya asked. Cove pulled out his phone and scrolled a bit, he then showed the girls his phone, it was a picture of Cove and Ethan in a fancy place, the type for a date. “Ember, look,” Niya pointed to a shadowy figure in the background, they had a pin on— which was all they could see of the person— it was the eight arrows thing again. “Thanks,” The two girls walked back to the NEWS room, they saw the rest had put up a pin board and pinned the pictures from earlier up. Dylan waved at Niya from a box, “Why are you in a box?” “Because I can be, Ni.” Dylan only sank deeper into the box. “Don’t question it.” Aiden walked by, stretching his wings, a feather falling into Dylan’s hands. Dylan always made sure to catch his feathers. Niya quickly pinned the answers she got from Cove up. “Hey, it’s been a busy day, how about we go out and do something besides this?” Jack talked, “Sure, how about ice cream?” Dylan said.
Niya thought it would melt in Ember’s warm hands, turns out she can control it. The group got some Blue Jay’s ice cream, the place was owned by a bird shifter. They all ate from cones and blue cups, laughing about stuff from their past. “Why didn’t you have four birds?” “Because I left some paper ‘plans’ that said there were four birds, and they went crazy looking for the fourth!” Dylan laughed at his own words, the memory coming back to him. As night fell, Ember and Niya walked back to their dorm. Niya took her shower first, she walked out in a baby blue silk nightgown, which looked like ocean waves. Ember’s face was almost as red as her hair, she cleared her throat before walking into the bathroom. The mirror was still foggy. She turned on the hot water and showered. She had a bit to think, ‘Why am I acting like a lovesick fool for this new girl? I’ve seen Aiden act like this for Dylan— but I can’t have a crush on someone I met the other day, can I?’. When she was done, she turned off the shower. She got dressed in a black tank-top and some old rose color pants— she was never a big fan of dresses. As she walked out, she saw Niya on her phone. Ever since Niya came, the room smelt like the ocean, very different from Ember’s burning smell. Ember pulled back her grey covers before hopping into bed. “Ember?” “Yeah?” “Thanks for helping today, you really didn’t have to.” Ember looked at Niya, who was putting her phone down and lying down. “Don’t mention it,” Ember muttered, she saw some flowers on Niya’s desk, “Those don’t grow here.”

But with a simple delight, fair, light and blue weather, there is this longing to see you, the brush of your smile has depicted a reasonable happiness to me, perhaps, nothing ever truly exists except for the rest of the while, when I begin to unravel your gentle heart, as it beats near mine, your pulse is an ocean of electricity, the brightest stars are above me, the night is cloaked with dampness, yet so elegant, so dense and more powerful like this love I have for you ever since, ever now, so close as it seems, living in the abundance of hope.

Chapter one; Welcome to Apex
I guess I should introduce myself, my name is Niya, and I’m a siren. I always knew I was, even though most supernatural’s don’t know until they’re called ‘freaks’. Anyways! On with the story!
3rd person;
Niya woke up, she looked at the mirror next to her bed, her hair looked bad. She got up and walked to the kitchen, where her mom was. “Thanks for finally getting up. Good morning, dear” “G’morning, mom” her mom; Elizabeth, who like her daughter, had dark brown curls, a few scales on the side of her face, tan skin, and olive eyes. That’s something Niya didn’t have, her mother’s eyes, she always hated her eyes, they were a reminder of the person who walked out on them. “I made your favorite, toast, bacon, and eggs!” Elizabeth sat the plate in front of Niya, before sitting down herself. “Excited for your first day?” Elizabeth asked, “Eh,” Niya started “I’ve been to school before-“ “Human schools. Apex is a great school for supernaturals, I went there when I was your age” The two ate their breakfast, once in a while Niya would ask questions about Apex. Niya soon went back to her room, grabbing her clothes and getting changed. Her outfit was a plain black dress, a purple jacket, and black boots. Her seashell bracelets signified she was water related, her ears signified that too.
Niya soon arrived at the school, heading to the office, she heard a few kids whispering. “Who is she?” “Are those her actual ears?” and “What species is she?” Were a few of the things she heard as she walked. She knocked on the headmaster’s (or headmistress’) door. “Come in” a female voice said through the door. As Niya walked in, she saw the headmistress’s doing paperwork, she had black hair, with a few greys, pale skin, and blood red eyes. “What are you here for?” The headmistress asked, her tone was sharp. “I’m the newest student. Niya.” Niya stated “Right, here’s your classes, and your dorm is 210” “And your name?” The two looked at each other for a moment. “Sorry, I’m Esme, a vampire” Niya soon walked out, heading to her dorm room. “210” she said out loud. Finding her key, she opened the door, seeing a clamshell bed on one side, and a girl reading a book on the other side, she had dyed-like red hair, black horns, darker skin than Niya’s, and black eyes. The girl looked up, pulling off the covers, the girl was wearing an oversized t-shirt, and black jeans. “You’re my new roommate? Niya, right?” The girl asked.
“Oh, sorry, I’m Ember, Fire demon” the girl, now known as Ember stated. “Niya, siren” the two shook hands as a greeting. “Are your hands also that hot?” Niya asked, “Somehow yes, fire demon stuff” Ember muttered. Niya put her bag down, soon unpacking her stuff. Before anyone realized, it was the next day. Niya’s classes somehow were math, science, history, lunch, then language arts and siren choir. The two girls walked out to dorm, heading to their first class. It soon rolled around to lunch time, Ember had dragged Niya to a table by the window. “Hey, Em! Who’s this?” A boy with black hair, which had one white striped in it, tan skin, and dark eyes said. Behind him was two boys, one with almost white blonde hair, green eyes, sun kissed skin, and another with blonde hair, blue eyes, and darker skin. “This is, Niya. She’s my new roommate.” Ember stated, quickly putting a bite of food in her mouth. “Oh, well I’m Dylan, a dragon” The black haired boy said, soon the green eyed one started talking “I’m Aiden, harpy”, lastly the one who was mostly quiet compared to how the other two introduced themselves “I’m Jack, shapeshifter” he said. “Well?” Dylan asked “Well what?” “What type of supernatural are you?!” Aiden basically yelled, getting closer “Oh, a siren” Niya admitted, toying with her hair.
The others started talking, it seemed like they had already accepted her. “Did you guys hear? A bunch of supernaturals have been reported dead and people are still looking for the killer,” Niya assumed Aiden liked gossip from that. “It’s not fair, we’re the ones with powers” Ember slammed her fist onto the table. “Doesn’t matter, they still think we’re freaks” Dylan explained. “What if there was a way to prove we’re more than ‘freaks’?” Niya muttered, clearly not expecting anyone to actually hear her. “How would we do that?” Jack asked, looking a bit more interested than before. “What if we solved the case?” Niya muttered, placing a hand on her chin. “How would we do that?” The other five asked in unison “Using whatever we have.” Niya stated. After classes, they all met up in Ember and Niya’s dorm room. The two girls had a pin board up with a few pieces of paper on it, each had something about the case. “Started without us, huh?” Aiden walked back into the room from the bathroom. “Okay, so all we know is that our killer attacked supernaturals, they’re kills are all over the place, and they’re never seen in the same place twice,” Ember stated, “Me and Ember thought we could go look at the first supernaturals killed.” Niya said, looking around to see if they agree with her. The others nod. “So, Ethan Grace, and Hazel Beau?” Jack asked. The others nod again.
Walking to the place Ethan was killed; the woods, Ember had a camera, Dylan had a notepad, Aiden had a flashlight, Jack was ready to talk to any animal that had seen anything, and Niya had nothing, just leading the group into the woods. They walk to where the body was, which was now removed for examination. “It doesn’t look like anything is here anymore—“ “You just have to look closely.” Niya cut Ember off, walking to a tree. “Doesn’t this look familiar?” Niya asked, pulling a picture out from her bag. As the four circled around her, they saw it was a picture of a sliver dagger the police had found, a piece missing. They look at the ground, “The missing piece!” Dylan yelled. “How did the police not find this?” Aiden raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms as Jack’s leans on him. “Doesn’t matter. It’s sliver though, a werewolf’s weakness. Whoever we’re dealing with is smart.” Niya stated, “Werewolf’s weaknesses are very common though” Ember muttered, quickly taking a photo of it. “Did we see these when we first walked in?” Jack questioned, pointing to foot prints.
“Definitely not” The group said together. They went over and looked at the foot prints. “Looks like he was running,” Niya stated. “So, whose foot is this?” Dylan looked at the foot prints behind them. “I don’t know. Em, can you take a picture of it?” Niya looked at Ember “Of course, princess.” Ember happily agreed. “Princess?” “Em?” The others squirted out questions, Niya and Ember just answered “Felt natural?” It sounded more like a question

INSPECTOR WAZIRI LEADS THE INVESTIGATION
Tumblr media
A Nigerian film about a difficult period to see if you have not already. It is October 1. The movie came out in 2014. However, the cinematographic work remains relevant today.
The story takes place a few days before Nigeria's Independence Day in 1960. This is where the title of the film comes from. Inspector Danladi Waziri (Sadiq Daba) investigates a series of rapes and murders of women west of the country, a small town called Akote, in Igbo region.
The director of this psychological movie, Kunle Afolayan, leads the historical and sociological plot masterfully. Danladi Waziri is an austere man, originally from the North. His appearance is very different from his compatriots in the West. Rather slender with a darker complexion, he has the withdrawn look of the men of the desert, of a Sahelian. He belongs to the Hausa people.
He is leading an investigation into a serial killer. It is the early 60s and almost no one knows what DNA means, including the inspector. He will investigate with the means at hand. Analysis of the crime scene, manipulation of the victims' bodies, the marks on the strangled women. They are virgin teenagers surprised in the darkness of a forest. Gradually, inspector Waziri will understand that he is after a criminal who knows the terrain and therefore a native of the country. However, local police categorically refuse to accept this hypothesis. They are convinced that no man from Akote can commit such atrocities. It is definitely someone from elsewhere. The man from the North is alone against everyone.
The local chief has a soothsayer who is worried about the murders in the area. The traditional priest tells his visitors that the killings will continue until the murderer is satisfied. Nevertheless, the inspector is unable to question the local soothsayer about his premonitory remarks. The police fear that the witch doctor will cast a bad spell on them if they dare to take him to the police station. Consequently, Waziri swims in a total enigma.
Yet this matter must be resolved before the handover of power from Britain to Nigeria. Inspector Waziri superior, a British man, plans to pack up and close the case once Nigeria is independent.
October 1 is much more than an African thriller. There is palpable ethnic tension, particularly when Waziri arrests a suspect like himself from the North. The local population wants to take justice into their own hands. The angry crowd gathers in front of the poor man's prison. Waziri knows he is innocent given the clues he has. However, the locals do not trust the investigator. They want to punish the suspect themselves because they are sure he is guilty.
We must add the difficult relations that the police officer maintains with the British colonizers. Their condescension and arrogance force the inspector to suffer frequent humiliations. His superior, a young man, insists on calling him “Dany Boy,” even though Waziri is his father’s age. However, Africa of the 60s is committed to respecting elders. It is inconceivable to treat a middle-aged African with no respect.
The reconstruction of the feverish atmosphere before independence is a success. In this film, there is a need to show young Africans what life was like during colonization.
All the actors played their respective roles with conviction. We come away won over by the quality of the dramatic acting. A film to see and appreciate.
