Kozue accession as one of many surprises in an anarchic last year of operation at Ohtori.
In my freshman year of highschool there was a group of kids who spent 8th grade as the last class of students at a middle school that was to be decommissioned. The teachers were all either waiting to jump ship or retiring, a lot of work went undone, alot of student cruelty went unchecked. The upkeep was dismal, the roof leaked, light bulbs that extinguished themselves were not replaced, the students were only allowed in certain parts of the school. There seemed to be a liminality to the experience, spending most of your days within walls that would be torn down that very summer.
That's how I imagine Ohtori without Anthy and her power, a strange dwindling thing still shook by the conclusion of normality and humming with anticipation of the deathblow.
Anyway, Kozue Co-prez!

Dear @himemeiya,
Apologies if this isn't up to your usual standards—this is my first time. I would like to send you a death threat for the Ally Akio content that you've been posting lately. If you do not cease with the posting of Ally Akio content, I will kill you in an unspecified manner.
Thank for you your time. ⭐️Rainier⭐️
Oh no! 😰 Sending Wokio hate has only added to his persecution complex! And during pride month too... Now Akio knows what homophobia must feel like 😔😒🥺
Control your urges to scream about all the people you hate 'Cause shade never made anybody less gay ✨🪩🏳️‍🌈🫶

Those fans who say Anthy provoked Saionji to hit/abuse her are basically regurgitating abuser rhetoric...
absolutely. sure there is some truth to saying that anthy doesn't actively discourage people from abusing her but like. that literally does not matter ? a victim not standing up to their abuser (for ANY reason) does not mean they deserve the abuse or that it's really their fault. and direct provocation from the victim isn't any different. though i don't think anthy even really does that anyway. people love to be like "well saionji isn't really to blame here because it was always part of anthy and akio's plan for him to do that" yeah well okay. but he still chose to hit someone. he did that. or people love to talk about how saionji is the easy target for blame when it comes to abuse because he's less subtle about it than people like touga and akio and that's true but... does not mean he still doesn't deserve that blame lol. he's just not the only one.

i love how fraught and complicated discourse around various utena characters ‘dying’ is when anthy is literally stabbed to death eternally by a million swords imbued with human hatred. and then utena gets stabbed to death by them also. like. ‘death’ is incredibly interesting in rgu because most of the time it’s this ambiguous figurative thing that has interesting implications re: ohtori as a closed-off world one can escape. we are all trapped in our coffins. mamiya is the only named character with a grave. nemuro memorial hall functions as one all the same. ruka is implied to have died in the hospital— was he dead all along? who was the boy we saw for these two episodes? is this dead boy the same boy, or is this just another coincidence from the shadow girls, cutting like a knife? it’s heavily implied that akio and anthy murder kanae by poisoning her, adding to the previous implication that they were poisoning mr ohtori too, but there are no perceptible consequences of this. kanae’s absence is not felt. she’s fed an apple slice. what happens to the bodies? we know what happened to the 100 boys, but what about everyone else? and so on and so forth. ‘death’ is a tricky thing in utena, i think it’s constantly functioning on figurative and literal levels in very different ways for very different purposes. dios died. dios was dying. dios didn’t die. he grew up. etc etc
#what am i trying to say here?#idk! think about all of the pieces you have#dying is complicated in ohtori in countless different ways#and i find it boring to see so much ‘this character is dead and that’s it’ stuff#when death is used farrrrrrr more figuratively than some ppl give credit for#and i think the movie too does wonderful things with death#and what ‘dying’ really means#being disbelieved. being forgotten. being rejected. haunting despite this#much more interesting to think about wrt commentary on abusive relationships than it is#to think about what?? oh me when my brother died but plot twist he’s alive and can walk on this road all cool. like?????#akio doesn’t have the power to make himself revenant#he THINKS he does and he absolutely has power when he’s alive and he imbues that power with such meaning that it does live on after him#but ANTHY. anthy is the one struggling with herself and her feelings and the impact of trauma and abuse (that power!!) in aou#he’s dead? he died? she brought him back through her memories? or she’s left him (metaphorical death) and he’s haunting her??#all such interesting interpretations#i haven’t mentioned touga bc i don’t have the energy today. if dead and just illusion of others memories then why active. why awful#like in aou akio is only Obviously scummy when he’s alive. his illusory self is based upon anthy’s love for him#if anime!touga is nothing more than nanami/whoever’s memories of him before he died……. why does he actively choose to suck again and again#like nanami wouldn’t do that. unless it was meant to be a subconscious thing like ooo he’s dead all along but that’s not what her arc is#it’s not ‘he’s been dead all along’ literally or figuratively. it’s ‘he’s unsafe and i don’t want him’#sigh. once again i am asking people to think about nanami and touga’s dynamic through touga’s eyes#it’s so interesting to me how people forget to consider his motivations or feelings on ANYTHING#like sure his motivations and feelings are scummy but they’re interesting!!!!! they intrigue me!!!!#compel me even#anyway ignore how i said i didn’t have the energy for this and then typed it all out anyway#dais.txt

I'm late for the celebration, but I still showed up >:D
Well, it might be a very personal question, but Irina found herself in a really complicated situation, like, she wasn't sure whether to follow the rules or follow according to her morals?
(An example of a situation is if she found herself in a situation like Giyuu, where someone like Tanjiro was protecting an oni because it was family, but there was still the danger of the oni causing problems...)
My question may be very complicated, or linked to your lore XD
So I'll leave something simpler for you.
A DOG FOR THE SUNLIGTH FORCE >:D
Tumblr media
Irina follows her own morals more than anything else xD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She tends not to attack the demons she encounters (if the demon isn't doing anything bad, of course. If the demon is attacking someone, Irina won't hesitate to attack immediately). She does this especially because she knows what it's like to have someone important who is a demon🥺🥺🥺
And now about the puppy!! X3💖

@lucytsukii could the puppy be an official member of the Sunlight Force?? :D✨️

About your poison essay, that scene really intrigued me because along with the bodyswap episode and wakaba flourishing episode, this is one of the only times (that i can remember) that the outside world is depicted outside of things like flashbacks. The streets have a rather “cyberpunk” kinda vibe to them, which contrasts with the rest of the show’s fancy fantasy-inspired aesthetics (barring the back half of the movie).
thank you for sharing your ideas. you have good points!! i agree with you!! your ask also got me thinking about this. throughout the series, several characters were shown to have been able to leave ohtori on their own terms. however, each time, these characters returned to ohtori once again. we saw nanami, shiori, wakaba, tokiko, ruka, and utena leave ohtori, often in relation to other characters, and return due to those specific characters, too. nanami left ohtori grounds a few times due to touga, but in her final attempt at leaving ohtori for good via transfer, she was stopped by touga. shiori left ohtori for unclear reasons, but it's plausible to consider it's due to the complications with herself, juri, and the guy from the past. her return could also possibly be related to juri. wakaba was shown to leave ohtori and go into town twice, and both times were in relation to saionji. tokiko left ohtori after mikage burnt down the research efforts she relied on in hopes of curing mamiya, her ill younger brother. mamiya died and was buried in ohtori. she returned to visit his grave and subsequently, akio. ruka was the only person to have stayed out of ohtori due to illness and not because of anyone in particular. but his return could be due to either being called back by end of the world or due to juri. utena left ohtori several times with akio. anthy never really left ohtori grounds, at least not as herself, as she was at kaoru twins' father's house as the rose bride. it's arguable if that's actually her or if it's a projection of some kind from miki's side. the suicide attempt took place at a location within ohtori, but as you pointed out, we got a look at the outside world beyond ohtori. i think, from my perception and reading, ohtori can be regarded as the general paradigm of a sunlit garden, inside which the people are bound to it by their specifically curated sunlit gardens. it's all-encompassing, a mirror that reflected and amplified the projected sunlit gardens of the beholders; it could be an egg or a coffin, depending on the character itself. connecting this point to the visual themes ascribed to the characters by the narrative in the context of venturing to the outside world beyond ohtori, i think it may allude to the possibility that nanami, wakaba, utena, and anthy had the most viable capability to leave ohtori, that ohotori was an eggshell that they can break out of. we saw that the outside world can be wide and colourful, unrestrained, when these particular characters were narratively placed in it, despite their respective adversities at those moments. this suggestion is supported by the fact that in the movie, utena and anthy managed to escape ohtori, nanami was a cow and thus, was never in ohtori in the first place, and wabaka was the mobile that carried the student council members to eventually escape ohtori. shiori became the vermin-esque mobile, but her focus was on on-upping anthy and utena, she can also turn into a car like utena, and she must be the first to leave ohtori. in any case, shiori struggled to leave ohtori, most likely due to her relationship with juri. but juri was planning on leaving and seemed determined to do so in the movie. looking back to the series, in episode 37, juri, nanami, and miki seemed to have been able to take a step toward moving forward from their own sunlit gardens; and in episode 39, they seemed to have achieved their own revolutions. shiori was in the background for both episodes; she may need a longer time to leave ohtori. ruka died in the series and wasn't present in the movie. safe to say ohtori became his coffin. tokiko was able to move away from ohtori, but she was somewhat bound to it by akio. finally, both utena and anthy were able to leave ohtori both in the series and in the movie :)

The opening gag where Utena mistakes a planetarium projector for Anthy's brother is one my favorite moments in the show. It's classic 'Ikuhara gave the plot away when no one was listening for it' content. Because of course, it's true. It's true in at least a couple ways, not the least of which being that Akio has been relegated to the *purpose* of a projector. His job is to show the lovely illusions necessary to accept the terms of the present Anthy lives in. Anthy doesn't need to believe he's trying to save her, she can gloss over that. But she needs to believe he's trying to distract her, because that's the least he can be doing to keep surviving in the state he does. It's okay if a constant parade of potential replacements for him continue to march across the pretend sky, as long as it's him that's left with Anthy, safe.
It's kind of like how the media computer in our living room is called Akio, and for the last month the TV it displays to has been an absolute feeding frenzy for my dumpster taste in men. Knives, Sephiroth, Silco, now fucking Astarion, and who Akio disliked so much he fried his own GPU. I replaced it. He took the hint. Akio is only ever as good as his ability to show you what you want. Even if it isn't him. Especially if it isn't him. No one shows up to look at the projector. They are there for the show.

i'm open to any type of analysis for rgu but i read this specific analysis about how anthy faked her suicide attempt to deceive utena according to akio's order and idk it didn't feel right to me. i think that was a truly genuine moment of vulnerability and hopelessness for anthy and through all of episode 38 she was so down and quiet... :( *sobs what do you think of this pov?
i've seen similar takes on that scene, and i agree with you in that i don't think that's true at all. it doesn't really make any sense, for one. like how does any of that benefit akio? why would this be part of his plan? this is the moment that leads to utena and anthy being the most honest with each other they've ever been, and their conversation on the rooftop is essential to their understanding of each other and to their escape, which is detrimental to akio's plans. i don't think anthy expected them to have that conversation, and if this was orchestrated by akio he wouldn't either, but i still fail to see what outcome he did expect if it was. no, this to me has always seemed like anthy acting on her own, because she genuinely doesn't know what else to do. it's caused by her own despair but is also a last ditch effort at protecting utena. she tells utena to let her go, and to leave ohtori after their conversation, which utena of course refuses. but i think the idea was that if utena failed at catching anthy, if anthy had succeeded at her suicide attempt, that it would make utena get out before it's too late. that if anthy was gone, utena would (hopefully) decide there was nothing left to stay for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
anthy knows what will happen in the final duel, that utena will either accept akio's proposal or die trying to fight him, and she of course doesn't want either of those things to happen to her. but it's still so hard for anthy to just tell her, and i'm sure she thinks utena still wouldn't understand, so this is the only way out she can imagine for both of them in that moment.
