I honestly feel a lot better about having posted anything at AO3, even things I won't finish, and there's something that warms my heart about posting fic for The Borgias in 2024.

I was actually deciding between two different WIPs to represent that "phase" between my undergrad years and grad school. The other one was the prologue to a Legend of Korra/Star Wars fusion in which Noatak/Amon is Korra's father and this is revealed in S1 (I think it was going to be Tarrlok who figures it out first, lol) and it actually affects the plot and it isn't just the LOK canon plot with minor adjustments—the fusion with SW was meant to be more than vague I-am-your-father inspiration. In any case, I only ever wrote the prologue about the Noatak/Senna quasi-romance that led to Korra's existence and never even got to the sheer comedy of Korra as Tarrlok's niece :(

But the Juan and Lucrezia as dysfunctional twins one-shot is closer to being a whole fic (in a side-story way) and I did like being able to add one more to my Borgias oeuvre—and getting at least some part of that AU on AO3 after all the time I spent on it!

#anghraine babbles #fic talk #i don't think senna actually ends up with tonraq in the au so there's no easy I Have A Real Dad option #and korra grows up knowing that her parents spent a genuinely wonderful year together before a ship he was in tragically sank #(this is not actually noatak's fault - he'd actually disembarked and chosen to disappear before the shipwreck happened #and just appreciated the convenience of it effectively covering his tracks after he'd made the 'mistake' of getting attached to senna #who fully believes he was in the shipwreck and is very dead)#so korra's heard all these (true!) stories of how cool the 22-y-o charismatic super waterbender noatak seemed to senna #meanwhile tarrlok discovers just who her father was and is like 'ok she's DEFINITELY getting the satomobile. but for different reasons')#the publishing au is actually incredibly involved (it's the bay area borgias fic as well!) but just focusing on juan and lucrezia #made it more possible to compress into a reasonably sized one-shot #in reality i wrote about the kids in school and how rodrigo bulldozed into their lives when their much older brother luis tragically died #vanozza is the second of his various ex-wives. also i included an adriana del milà expy even though it's very much borgias fic bc i love he #and yes she /is/ still the mother-in-law of the giulia expy :D #lucrezia ended up getting moved ahead a year from juan and joins cesare in befriending The New Kid #miguel aka micheletto - who thus is a high school friend of theirs and has complicated feelings about everything #but never forgot that teenage cesare and lucrezia stood by him when he was involuntarily outed in their school c. 2002.#lucrezia is the most obvious nepo baby of the company but actually fantastic at marketing while cesare is the creative one #but rodrigo has convinced himself that juan is the creative genius bc he(r) likes him(j) best and obviously has infallible judgment #but yeah it dovetails into the bay area au in which the alfonso d'aragona expy is lucrezia's boyfriend al from pleasanton #he doesn't like her living in the house her family owns outright in oakland for reasons he never manages to explain!)#political shenanigans and codependent siblings #avatar: the legend of korra

Hey by the way if I ever misgender you in cosplay it’s not because I think you have a gender underneath 9/10 times it’s because that’s the character’s gender and I forget not everyone wears pronouns like sweaters

(The other 1/10 time I remembered and am wildly flailing for anything that isn’t the character’s gender there is no winning)

replaying da2 after bg3 is really just like. go kill this irredeemable villain (character that could perfectly be just durge). this magic is mega evil someone who can do this must be killed (spells thay my goody-two-shoes paladin did in bg3 constantly)

#most if not all of the bg3 companions would be villains to kill in da2 #or at least villanized in universe #bg3 is so much more mmmm merciful ??#and like not just the universe like. im ok with the universe being ruthless i love kirkwall full of the worst awful people ever #but like the narrative you know?? like the kindness/sympathy the narrative shows to these people #in bg3 u can even see the tragic backstory of the worst of the worst and random enemies have letters to show they were humans and had dream #and aspirations etc etc #da2 sometimes has me killing people i absolutelly wouldnt want to kill (most tal-vashoths) i miss u non letal damage #of course they are 2 different games done in 2 different times but its funny to me how dragon age is supposed to be Grey Morality sitaution #and bg3 is full You can be a Hero or Be Mega Evil!!#and indeed bg3 ends up being more morally grey and nuanced about it #anyways this is mostly Fear for what da4 has to serve cause im already :/ about the comments about blood magic not being allowed to use #by the mc #not for the fact but for the reasons behind it.....aka im expecting some inquisition bullshit #talks and stuff #(continues) THE THING IS #that in dao you are doing your best with what u have in your situation #and in da2 you are not that powerful u also do ur best and fail a lot #but in dai is like yeah you have infinite absurd levels of political influence #we are not giving you the options to do things tho #like not the trying and failing but the chance to be able to do it u know #im just rambling here u know

Daisy is so fucking adorable. It looks like I'll be driving her out to Seattle in late September to go to her forever-home, so I get to enjoy her for another few months.

Sorry for being negative, I’m just a bit disappointed that after looking through the Earthspark Optimus tags on and off on different occasions weeks apart, it seems like the only thing the fandom has to say about ES Optimus is finger snaps and dad jokes. :/ (And also a handful of people already trying to frame him as a bad person lmao)

Watch for it, when more episodes of Earthspark come out and a conflict with GHOST inevitably arises, people are going to be raging at Optimus for being “stupid” or “self-righteous” or “blind” for working with GHOST and start calling Megatron and/or the Decepticons right about everything because they spent so long focusing on “haha funny dad Optimus” that they forgot about the other parts of Optimus’ character like... idk, not wanting to colonize planets? Not wanting to start wars with entire species that didn’t want to be involved in the war in the first place? Being willing to make compromises even at risk to himself and his own because he wants to treat everyone fairly?

Idk I guess I’m just a bit salty because it genuinely seems like all this fandom wants is “funny dad Optimus” and nothing else. Like you will give them funny dad Optimus who’s ALSO complex and morally gray but people will only ever talk about the former part. And then when Optimus inevitably makes a mistake and bad things happen, people are probably going to treat him as if he’s stupid or an asshole when he ends up not being the Perfect Unproblematic Fave that people seemingly want him to be.

#negativity #the tf fandom has protagonist centered morality really badly #like yes we all joke/think that humans are the most boring part of transformers #but there's a difference between that as like a narrative preference in a story #versus literally acting like humans don't matter #and a lot of takes i see in earthspark and other continuities #seem to completely ignore the fact that cybertronians securing their future on earth and eliminating the people who want to do them wrong #would literally mean stealing resources from humans and killing them aka COLONIZING THEM #so i see people calling OP a bad leader or stupid or overly trusting for working with GHOST when he's literally no such thing #he explicitly says 'we are guests on this planet' and acknowledges that he sees GHOST merely as his best option and doesn't fully trust them #but ppl in this fandom have a really infantile perspective of optimus #where they want him to be Good All The Time or they just see him as an idiot for some reason #so they see OP making compromises to not hurt humans (people who didn't even want to get involved with cybertron's war)#and theyre like durr hurr he's stupid! he's ignorant! he's an asshole to the decepticons!#no he's not he's literally just trying to not hurt innocent people? and he has to balance both human lives and cybertronian lives #and that's fucking hard and there are no perfect options and there are no outcomes where no one will get hurt #and the existence of those bad choices doesn't make optimus stupid or malicious #it makes him a FUCKING PERSON #trying to navigate a HARD SITUATION and do the right thing #but we can't have optimus being an actual character who behaves like a human being #he has to be perfect daddy prime that does nothing wrong ever and if he does he's a STUPID ASSHOLE ugh

during the summer, I tried to get into machine sewing, but because of a combo of being frustrated with learning the maintenance and the Depression™, I stopped.

but I am feeling better these days, so I'm thinking about trying again.

and I did get an idea for a project, aka recreating that silly cape/cloak lucifer has for his tsl outfit. but I don't really plan on wearing it, it's going to be kind of a makeshift blanket honestly.

alternatively I could straightup just make a blanket that is based off the cloak. that might work better tbh, but hmm. or a shawl perhaps, that could be good for colder months especially.

#I'm also thinking about having the “fur” trim be terrycloth #i already found one that is a color I'd want #but yeah actual fur is expensive + it would be a first major project and wouldn't want to bust out the best materials for that #faux fur is a cheaper option but micro plastics my beloathed. besides the texture wouldn't be good especially depending on the quality.#no idea what I'd want the outer part of it to be but I'll figure it out #and i mostly have an idea of what i want the lining to be aka terrycloth so🎉
