Gravel and Vigna.
Ugh, Gravels recruitment lines are such a swoon.

Thinkin' about... Arknights modern AU...
Nothing specific, but I always think high school or college AUs are fun explorations of the characters divorced from the fantastical. Who is Lappland if not a weapon for the mob? What is Specter if not recovered from Edlritch Cult Brainwashing? Who are Ifrit and Rosmontis if not human experiments?
And yes, obviously the potential for fluff is adorable. I want to see Vanilla and Jessica as roommates or coworking interns. I wanna see the girls from Dorm A1 putting together a TTRPG game. I wanna see Frostleaf asking her weird roommate/queerplatonic bestie Red about what to wear on her date with cool rocker girl Vigna. Give me Ensia Silverash complaining to her hiking buddies about her brother's weird romantic rivalry with his secretary.
Do people have ideas in this vein? I wanna get some writing done in the AK-verse in general and this seems like a good way to ease into it, so feel free to send like an ask or something if you have a prompt.

AK the game question, the new banner was good for me. So between Vigna, Akafuyu gaming, Indigo, or some other low rarity operators, which should I level first for a quick deployed DPS to take down chunky bosses that are engaged with defenders?
Assuming that by quick deployed DPS you mean someone you can drop on someone already blocked, aka helidropping, the one that fits your criteria there the best is Akafuyu; Vigna can also do that to some degree, but she's entirely dependent on S2 uptime for her damage, and she's not a good helidrop Operators (even at S2M3, she needs 15 SP to charge her first S2 use). Akafuyu fares a bit better and can hold better if your tank dies (10 SP needed at S2M3; not ideal either), but your actual helidrops for engaged bosses should be Dreadnoughts like Melantha, Franka, Skadi, etc. It's kind of their thing. You can also use some Arts Fighters (like Mousse) in this regard, with Surtr being, in fact, so insanely busted precisely because she's so immensely good at exactly this with her S3 (S3M3 needs 5 SP and goes hard as hell).

New AK ask. What region (Columbia, Sargon, Kazdel, etc) do you want to learn more about the most? Who do you think we should be following in an event that explores it?
Ooh this is a neat one, yeah. Let's start with considering those 3 first as there's certainly things to say there.
Columbia - We still have Lonetrail yet to drop and any further storyline following that for the Rhine Lab arc, plus there's now the upcoming Blacksteel Worldwide event Come Catastrophes or Wakes of Vultures to give us further exploration.
I want them to free Domma from NPC jail but that might require a Mountain Alter-worthy event :/ Orchid, Frostleaf or Vigna might have more potential there.
Sargon - We have the Acahualla storyline that may get a third event, and now Reclamation Algorithm: Fire Within the Sand has provided an expansion of the Sand Soldier/Old Isin section of Walk in the Dust story. Manticore gets some story time from that one too, which was nice to see.
A look at Beeswax getting to do her own thing more confidently might be fun, but then personally I'd be more down for something following adorably-precious Estelle who has been given snippets so far of her getting through her anxieties and dealing with that 'being seen as a battle goddess' moment. That IS2 mapping with the Archosauria trio was perfect, we need more.
Kazdel - This would be interesting since they only ever showcased it as cold, snow-covered ruins until that one scene in Episode 11 of the capital that repeatedly got destroyed and rebuilt. Most of the related cast are major players of the main story Act 2, whether as NPCs unlikely to join or Operators resolving certain threads and fates.
(Playable Closure is so close yet just out of reach...) Hoederer might be a good solo event candidate as a What the F... style interlude if we regroup with him in Episode 13. Or hey, Meteorite Alter please? She needs something after the whole 'traumatised by autopilot!Specter fighting' gag and her story with Firewatch... W Alter could be an Episode-related moment if that has any possibility.
Sami is going to be covered by IS4 and its coinciding vignette event for Typhon, Skógrinn Svartr Vill Einn Draumr. Aegir will likely be explored through the next installment of the Abyssal Hunters storyline.
We need events for Durin, Higashi, Rim Billiton and Minos for further explorations/catching up to other locales.
Seeing Croque and Deculture again would be great but not anything new Durin-wise so maybe we could have sleepyhead Durin visiting elsewhere. We don't particularly need a Myrtle Alter unless she's gonna be the Ultra-Super Flagbearer to show up Saileach...
So far Higashi has effectively been vaguely explained as doing their own thing and one additional loadscreen lore tidbit established how they curbstomped Ursus trying to invade. The recent Leaves Chasing Fire/A Flurry to the Flame Monster Hunter collab featured a rather isolated mountain village, as MonHun is wont to do. My picks for a lead would be: Matoimaru, Tsukinogi and Utage. Overlooked launch unit, niche Supporter, and cute gyaru needs justice for that damn module 'Talent'.
For a Rim Billiton event it could center on April and/or Savage; Ansel; Asbestos on her solo travels. Getting to the bottom of either the incident in Kroos the Keen Glint's past or Popukar's Lumberyard would be neat too.
And Minos - Sideroca or Perfumer Lena, I'd like. They need some appreciation. Rather little to work with compared to others, so yeah we really need some kind of story there.

canon questionnaire || [ open ]
@babelmedicus sent: 12 &. 13 ( Hellagur, AK fandom )
12. What would you say is the most unique trait about your character?
Dude’s old. Like, not just in ‘years’ but in how ‘wise’ he is. A lot of the characters in AK are very young, spritely, bishie/shounen in looks and/or behavior. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but it seems like Hellagur stands as an exception to that what with his older appearance and sterner/realistic viewpoint of the world and what is going on in it. Kal’tsit has the same viewpoint, but she also looks like a qt3.14 and you know it.
He also has facial hair.
13. Are there any other characters from the franchise you’d like to play?
I haven’t thought about it all that much. I kinda like the whole “write 1 character per series” deal I have going on, and if I broke that there are a few other canons I’d inevitably pile in like Netzach and Binah. So it’s kinda me limiting myself... but if there were another character I’d write from AK, it’d be someone I haven’t seen written before.
I kinda like Sesa? He’s got a punky look to him but he’s smart as hell and one of those ‘fallen from grace’ characters doing stuff in the background. Maybe I’d look into trying him out? Most of the other characters I’ve seen plenty of already. I guess Vigna and Vanilla are possible too. Those two are cuties. Love them.
#babelmedicus#inbox :: answered ooc#thanks for sending this in!#I also look at the fact that a bunch of my muses already have AK verses#so technically I'm already writing a ton in that world#or have the ability to anyway

Riiiise, it's AK question time. What does your starting squad(s) look like? Like when you get to a stage that you've never played and so don't know what to expect.
Well, I do use the EYESOFPRIESTESS mapping image to decide on adjustments usually since the main surprise is the enemy waves order.
My teambuilding is probably best in Integrated Strategies tbh since that forces you to figure out what you know you can manage with the hand dealt. I found myself an ideal team/item comp to aim for in IS3 that works very nicely but it took longer to get IS2 down and even then IS2 is nastier luck by Floor 3 boss that it's often pretty rough.
Tend to go for a 'brute force then refine as required' style of YOLOing one of my 3 rotating composition squads as far as possible. If they need better balancing I'll figure something out. Usually my go-to Vanguards are Fang/Myrtle or Courier/Vigna; I'll try to balance my Arts and Phys Dmg overall; Gavial/Sussurro will do for Medic and some array of Guards/Defender/Specialist should manage. But I may make something lopsided work, or outright require it in certain Challenge Mode nodes.
This is my seldom-used high rarity shifting composition for 'yeah idk what will happen but I feel like a ROFLstomp should occur' + 'ah 6-star modules need tasks doing oops' where I might experiment testing new units like Puzzle there during early event maps.
This is supposed to be my rotating event team slate; atm it's converted to a Sniper/Caster trust farm I haven't checked recently.
With events I do like to have any of the focus units I've managed to obtain at mid-level E1 at least to theme the squad appropriately somewhat. So for Where Vernal Winds Never Blow I had Nian, Cantabile, Jieyun, Firewhistle as the core deployments alongside Casters/Snipers/Medics.
This setup was for the EX-8-CM of Invitation to Wine Rerun that was frustrating to get through but is decently built. Removed Surtr/12F/bnuuy for different ops such as Wind Chimes/Gladiia etc.
So yeah, Gladiia tile but I started this off a lil awkward before setting up nicely. The unguarded blue box path is so fun, haha.
Here's the Challenge Mode where trying out the same team but with slightly better deployment because Now I Know. Still could be adjusted to use less Operators if you're being fancy with it but it had the map on lock. I don't really try those 1p relays but I loved seeing the 7-10 Estelle solo in action firsthand.
#arknights#arbellas-bakery#I just go for Organised Chaos tbh#trust me I'm Dokutah I know how to tactics in the field.#I could plan more meticulously but I want to savour the story's meat.
