Farm to Table Cobb w/Atlantic Salmon. Root Down (Airport). Denver, Colorado. 6.23.2023.
NOTE TO SELF: Not as good as the beets and goat cheese salad, but this was another solid one. I'm blown away that the salmon is so good without any discernible seasoning. The whole thing is a testament to quality ingredients that come with farm to table restaurants.

At the end of our trip, we ended up eating at Melbourne airport. Surprisingly, Biggie Smalls has a shawarma restaurant so we tried it and it was actually so good lol. I was impressed especially for airport food.
We had to go on the plane on the runway which was cool. I also can’t remember if the washroom sign was in Sydney or Melbourne but I thought it was so creative and funny. Cute design.

Flying out of Las Vegas is, forgive the pun, a crapshoot: for us, it’s basically a question of whether we’re going to get the food at the Jose Cuervo Tequileria* or the food at PGA Tour Grill. Both are objectively fine for an airport, but neither are particularly good. (I’ve been forever spoiled by the fact that I can see people make my food at the Flying Dog Taphouse in BWI. Yes, the food isn’t cheap, but it’s made well and to order.) Case in point: my breakfast tacos in which the eggs were definitely brown (a no-no for me) but I ate them thanks to the salsa, cheese, and bacon involved, as well as the fact that this would be the only real substantial meal I would have in the next seven hours.
*The breakfast burrito I would have en route homeward would prove to be much better, so this is not a post maligning this particular airport restaurant!

Cancun Sabor Mexicano, 1 Airport Dr, Oakland, CA 94621
Cancun is the newest eatery at Terminal 1 at Oakland International Airport. They have a restaurant in Berkeley that emphasizes farm fresh organic ingredients. They make their own tortillas and salsas.
The airport location serves breakfast till 10:30 AM (breakfast burritos & bowls) and then switches to the all-day menu afterwards. The menu includes starters, burritos, bowls, nachos, tacos, and quesadillas. There is a child’s menu but adults aren’t allowed to order from it. Proteins: pollo asado, carne asada, chorizo, prawns, vegan al pastor, vegan chorizo, grilled veggies. It’s vegan and vegetarian friendly.
Order at the counter and they’ll call your name when your order is ready.
Vegetarian nachos ($18.25): whole pinto beans, Jack cheese, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, pickled vegetables, salsa verde, housemade tortilla chips. First, who serves nachos in a bowl? The toppings were thrown on top. Taco Bell does a better/nicer job assembling nachos. Some of the chips were scorched. The jack cheese was at the very bottom. Strange. However, it tasted better than it looked. The chips were thin and crispy, the guac chunky, the pinto beans tender, the salsas tasty. It seemed less salty and fresher than usual and I appreciated that. Plus, the portion was satisfying and didn’t feel heavy.
It took a long time to get the food even though they weren’t busy.

Man Eats Homemade Paratha With Mother At Airport, Slams 'Overpriced' Airport Food
Air travel is considered the most convenient form of transportation. It provides a level of comfort that other forms of transportation may not offer. While travelling by air has certainly become more accessible for the salaried class, we cannot ignore the unspoken code of conduct that is expected to be followed at airports. One of them being, buying overpriced airport food despite its average…

my mum keeps responding to my covid precautions with “i get it, you’re not ready yet”. like no i just don’t do them anymore. i don’t really need to eat at restaurants or go to crowded places or be in public without an n95. i can watch the movie at home. i can get take out. an n95 is just uncomfortable sometimes but doesn’t stop me from doing anything. i love not getting sick
#SOOOOOO glad i moved out#‘your sibling and i are going out to eat have fun! i actually have no desire to do that whatsoever#also both of them have brought covid home and I’ve clocked it every time#my mum’s was after a trip after i moved out where she didn’t wear a mask once (not even at the airport) and then spent the trip texting me#about how the rich food was giving her some stomach trouble and the jet lag was just hitting her so hard#clocked that asap. i think she gave it to everyone else too and then tested after someone else tested positive and got her positive#my sibling was when i was still at home though and they just came downstairs and sat next to me coughing and i have never moved so fast#consistently tested negative so I don’t think they gave it to me but they protested possibly having it until I made my mum test them#and lo and behold I was right! I got pcr tested by urgent care and was negative#i didn’t get the chance to be cautious from the beginning because I was a minor when covid started#but i’m now an adult and moved out and keep all my precautions and tbh I love it#i’m a college student and the only sickness I’ve ever dealt with was an ear infection from a piercing. that’s it#‘don’t you want to embrace your young adult years’ i have two cats and hobbies and love being at home im fine#I don’t want to party or go out or do much of that#coronavirus

Cobb Salad. Louise Café (Airport). Bentonville, Arkansas. 3.22.2023.
NOTE TO SELF: This is not a cobb salad. This is the ingredients that belong on a cobb salad all mixed together in a bowl like chicken salad, then put on top of dry lettuce. I knew something was up when diced chicken was listed as an ingredient and there was an upcharge to sub in grilled or fried chicken. I liked the vibe of this airport restaurant, but the food was overpriced and underwhelming.

So during our last day we actually walked to a different part of Sydney and got pasta from this place called Bar Reccio… but I have no photo evidence! Insane. Not even sure how that’s possible but it was good lol.
We then took the train back to Sydney airport and we got lounge access. Since it was early morning we decided to just try the lounge. It was so terrible. The congee was incredibly plain and the noodles were ass. Literally toast was the best choice.
We were making our way to Melbourne. Probably one of the worst flight experiences ever with Jet Star. We ended up waiting at the terminal in Melbourne for our bags for 4 hours because it was “raining”. The flight itself was only an hour. We lost so much time to explore which sucked.

In February we spent nearly a week in Reno, Nevada that required stops in the LAS airport on both legs, and one of the better places to eat in that airport is the Jose Cuervo Tequileria located near a chunk of C gates that Southwest controls. The food is solid that gives you the flexibility of choice. You can get a taco salad with your choice of protein, and you can also get burritos, tacos, and quesadillas with your choice of chicken, shrimp, steak, carne asada, chorizo, or carnitas.
The flight home from LAS to BWI was extra dicey for us because it was late and wouldn’t put us home until after 10, so we had to make our lunches count. I went with the grilled chicken burrito, and I definitely would recommend this as the chicken is tasty and well-seasoned and the burrito overall is filling, but it doesn’t feel like a lead weight in your stomach when you’re sitting on a plane for almost four hours.
