My crafting friends and I were discussing this and we realized that none of us had ever thought about how this word is supposed to be pronounced when referring to the fabric. I don’t think any of us had ever heard or said it out loud. I think of it the second way like the opera. I’ve also seen it written as Aïda. What does that mean?
Edit: Someone in notes said eye-da. That's a good one too.

[Image id: two white aida cloth bookmarks with Palestinian style embroidery, atop a copy of "Rifqa" by Mohammed El-Kurd. One is short and narrow with embroidery in red, it features three vertical "S" shaped leech motifs with a simple border on each side. The other is longer and wider and features the motifs found on a keffiyeh in black thread, a pattern available from tatreeztraditions.com /end id]

So I got about a third of the way through my Ahsoka cross-stitch and realized I'd been using the wrong color of orange thread for her face, and I have been putting off ripping the stitches out for like... a month or two?? Maybe I'll just... set her aside for now and start work on the Peppermint Butler piece I wanted to work on, and I can deal with the anxiety and frustration of a piece I was REALLY excited for... later.

lesson learned... if I want to do larger cross stitch pieces I really need an embroidery hoop

Vincent: *Trots up to Aida, before stopping.* "What you are doing, Aida?"
Aida: "Building snowball lanterns." *Points one at her side.* "Do you want to help Vincent?"
Vincent: "...it's cold."
Aida: *Sweat drops.* "That's what you get from dressing in the same clothes always."
Vincent: *Gains evil glint into his eyes.* "...I'll give you a snow bath." 😈
Aida: "You wouldn't-" *Gets hit by the first snowball.* "...Eeeep!!" *Rushes quickly away while Vincent chases after her.*

My character Aida and her boyfriend Vincent Valentine. I like to think Vincent dislikes snow because it's too cold for him despite the fact Aida made him a matching scarf with her own. But not everybody like snow...

me, mounting my wife’s round-but-too-big-to-hang-in-the-hoop cross stitch gift for her mom: dang, I gotta take these pins out and start over. I was going around when I should have been going across, like tire nuts.
my brain: dude how in the goddamn fuck did you get to 33 before noticing you’re trans

This fabric doesn’t have any lines of symmetry but it does have repeating motifs so while I didn’t bother trying to pattern-match any other part of the corset, I made sure the center-front panels aligned!

It WOULD look cool as a patch! I was thinking of making a smaller one to turn into a patch!!!!
HELL YEAH! You definitely should!! I've gotta look up how to make cross stitch patches, but once I do its over for all these fuckers (these fuckers being my bags and jackets)

my gay hubris is truly getting a quarter of an idea for a crochet or cross-stitch project and just immediately running with it, no additional thoughts only carpal tunnel
