As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.
if i have to explain to you that using a camera to take a picture is not the same as using generative ai to generate an image then you are a fucking moron.
#ask me#anon#no more patience for this#i've heard this for the past 2 years#“an object created and controlled by companies” anon the company cannot barge into your home and take your camera away#or randomly change how it works on a whim. you OWN the camera that's the whole POINT#the entire point of a camera is that i can control it and my body to produce art. photography is one of the most PHYSICAL forms of artmakin#you have to communicate with your space and subjects and be conscious of your position in a physical world.#that's what makes a camera a tool. generative ai (if used wholesale) is not a tool because it's not an implement that helps you#do a task. it just does the task for you. you wouldn't call a microwave a “tool”#but most importantly a camera captures a REPRESENTATION of reality. it captures a specific irreproducible moment and all its data#read Roland Barthes: Studium & Punctum#generative ai creates an algorithmic IMITATION of reality. it isn't truth. it's the average of truths.#while conceptually that's interesting (if we wanna get into media theory) but that alone should tell you why a camera and ai aren't the sam#ai is incomparable to all previous mediums of art because no medium has ever solely relied on generative automation for its creation#no medium of art has also been so thoroughly constructed to be merged into online digital surveillance capitalism#so reliant on the collection and commodification of personal information for production#if you think using a camera is “automation” you have worms in your brain and you need to see a doctor#if you continue to deny that ai is an apparatus of tech capitalism and is being weaponized against you the consumer you're delusional#the fact that SO many tumblr lefists are ready to defend ai while talking about smashing the surveillance state is baffling to me#and their defense is always “well i don't engage in systems that would make me vulnerable to ai so if you own an apple phone that's on you”#you aren't a communist you're just self-centered

Last post, I promise, but I do think it’s good and important to see local art (defining that term as broadly as possible) but in my experience you have to put up with the little kick of embarrassment you feel witnessing something too earnest, a little clumsy, not polished within an inch of its life or in step with prevailing trends.
I’m thinking of the dance performances I saw this weekend, but also last week’s street festival, where I watched short films and walked through local art exhibits; I’m thinking about Chicago’s outsider art museum, and even the elaborately decorated (ostensibly tacky) yards I see in rural Illinois, but South Carolina and Tennessee before that, and Michigan before that. Maybe I should cast an even broader net: my aunt’s cross stitch, my grand-aunt’s horrible poetry; the art they display at the nearby retirement community and the halfway house too, which comes from the residents.
If you’re not used to leaving space for that little kick, you might turn away or scoff at all this small, fumbling art. But I think there’s value in forcing yourself to look beyond that initial stab of secondhand embarrassment---to actually appreciate the art in front of you as an expression of something deeply human. You don’t have to think it’s objectively good, or even subjectively good. You don’t have to pretend that a local woman with a talent for oils is the next [INSERT FAMOUS ARTIST HERE]. But I do think you have to appreciate it, because otherwise there is no entrance into making art yourself.
And that, more than anything, is worth preserving.

there's something so deeply dystopian to me how tech companies don't understand that a forced convenience is not a convenience at all. i'm sure autocorrect is helpful for many, but a function that forcibly changes my actual written words and punctuation is taking away my language. photo filters can be nice but i need to choose using them myself or else i have lost the ability to take the picture i want. i don't want a machine to draw or write for me. taking away the option for me to do things manually feels like violence!!!! all this talk of endless opportunity, why are you RESTRICTING me

It's actually disappointing to see someone make a good point about how "AI fics shouldn't be posted on AO3" and people immediately go to how "it's a good thing it's tagged so it can be excluded" and then practically jump OP about it.
Maybe it's just me, but while I agree AI fics should be tagged as AI fics so they can be excluded when you want to search for genuinely written by a human fics... I don't think they should exist in the first place, let alone be seen in the same regard as other fics that are written by actual people.
It's not about it being tagged.
It's about how it shouldn't exist in the first place.
AI fucking sucks and I don't care to have to add another thing to exclude when I want to find a fic to read because people want to steal and generate trash and add it to a collection of fics that actually have feeling to it.
I rather read a fic with no paragraph breaks, incorrect capitalization mistakes and grammar errors (sometimes I do, I'll be honest, we all been there and we learn) than that AI bullshit.
It shouldn't have to be tagged in the first place if it doesn't exist.

In **"Ugly Love"** by Colleen Hoover, **Miles Archer** is a brooding, complex character with a troubled past that significantly impacts his present relationships, especially his relationship with Tate Collins.
Tumblr media
**Physical Appearance**: Miles is described as extremely attractive, with a strong, commanding presence. He's tall, with a fit, muscular build, and dark hair. His blue eyes are often mentioned, adding to his allure, but they also carry the weight of his past, reflecting his inner turmoil.
Tumblr media
**Personality**: Miles is initially very reserved, emotionally distant, and closed off. He’s deeply guarded and keeps his feelings tightly locked away, especially when it comes to romantic relationships. This emotional detachment is a result of a tragic event from his past that left him deeply scarred, causing him to shut himself off from love.
Tumblr media
**Emotional Depth**: The depth of Miles' character lies in the contrast between his outward stoicism and the intense emotions he’s hiding. He’s haunted by his past, particularly a heartbreaking loss, which makes him fearful of letting anyone get too close. Despite his attempts to keep things casual and unemotional with Tate, it becomes clear that he is a man who feels deeply but is terrified of those feelings.
**Actions in the Story**: Throughout the novel, Miles struggles with his growing feelings for Tate while trying to keep his promise to never love again. His relationship with Tate is complicated by his inability to move on from his past, leading him to set strict boundaries that often cause confusion and pain. However, his actions also reveal a deeply caring and protective side, especially as he starts to open up to Tate, albeit reluctantly. The flashbacks to his past show a different side of Miles—a loving, hopeful, and optimistic young man—before tragedy changed him.
Tumblr media
**Past Trauma**: Miles' backstory is gradually revealed through flashbacks, and it becomes evident that his emotional walls are a defense mechanism to protect himself from further pain. This trauma is the key to understanding his behavior in the present, as it shapes every decision he makes and every relationship he has.
Overall, Miles Archer is a character marked by intense inner conflict. His journey throughout the novel is one of healing, as he learns to confront his past and open himself up to love again, making him a deeply sympathetic and multifaceted character.

This is the dumbest argument I've ever heard
Tumblr media
I can't think of any hobby more wallet friendly than picking up a pencil and paper. Like this is just plain stupid.
Also, I'm not an artist and I don't have drawings skills, but sometimes I paint little watercolors for myself and I have fun even though they look awful, and that's the entire point.
Also also, since I can't draw and I still want to share my ideas, I write. And yeah it takes practice but THATS THE POINT. There's so many genuine ways you can share your ideas with the world.
Hell, model with clay, act out a dumb video, draw stick figures, do whatever. I promise all of that is a better rendition than a program that isn't actually intelligent and is just giving you results based on keywords like a glorified search engine
Just say you want recognition for something you stole and didn't care enough to put the effort in and shut up

i hate when people try to defend ai art with “but i want to be able to make pretty pictures like you guys!!” ok grab a canvas go to youtube and watch bob ross. grab some pencils buy a sketchbook and a beginners drawing book and learn like the rest of us. we didn’t spend years honing our craft just so you could plug it into a machine that spits out a poor mimicry in .2 seconds so that you could feel like you made something you didn’t work for

You took the blame for me. ...Give me a break. [...] Besides, it's been four years now since Zhang Teng's death. Why are you still hung up on those solved problems? What are you trying to do? Who says they're solved?

i think you forgot the tech wizard's birthday (mikado)
TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, ANON, THIS IS LESS, "Oh shit, I forgot one of my favorite character's birthday-!" AND MORE, "I've been swamped with work, school, and been more focus on a silly little stick figure show over SDRA2 and now I'm pass the deadline welp-"
Anyways, here's his birthday art that I tried to plan in advance but never finished it in time until today cause I didn't spend my time wisely.

Happy birthday to my worst boy(s)! I totally wasn't, like, four weeks late for this, hahaha!!;;;

Detroit Become Human and why does this game decide that the problem in society is individual people treating androids poorly because those androids are choking them out of the workforce and NOT the corporations and governments who deliberately designed the androids to do this
#AUGHHGHH#I promise you dbh is still one of my favourite games I really do#But ohhhhhhhjghh my GODDDD it makes me mad#Like ESPECIALLY this year. With artists and writers being so fucked by ai#Like the game has less than no sympathy for people who were screwed over by cyberlife deciding their labour wasn't worth anything#Like everybody has to be a strawman. Everybody has to be the violent 'android bad because (some vague reason that draws on the#'immigrants are stealing our jobs' line despite the fact that these things aren't equivalent at all)#Like yes. Robots being placed in positions where a real human would be paid a real wage to do that job is bad. This is a bad thing#But the game. Does not CARE#It's so morally neutral for cyberlife to be allowed to mass produce androids in the middle of a poverty epidemic that they created#It's fine! Says Detroit Become Human because everyone rendered homeless or struggling by this company's actions is a violent drug addict#Or something#It's like HUH#H U H#This game was so enamoured with it's weird bad civil rights allegory that it forgot that people do actually need jobs to uh. Pay to live#Because things are hell#And I think it could've been SO much better if the game acknowledged this AS WELL as acknowledging that no android chose this#Like a fresh deviant didn't ask to cause a real person to not have a job. The company who made them did#But dbh doesn't care. Cyberlife is morally neutral in this. I swear#Loses my mind this game is such a mess#Uhhh if anyone's reading this please don't get mad at me I promise I do really love this game. Like this game is the reason I#Met the love of my life. I am physically incapable of hating this game#I just think it's so worth discussing the ways it fails in (what I think is) a constructive manner#detroit become human#game analysis#I guess#If anyone has any contributions or disagrees with me I would LOVE love to hear. Genuinely I love talking about things like this#Essay in tags
