roland and linda in cahoots on something
Thank you. Athos and Linda got along, I think Roland and Linda would get along like a housefire no one suspected.

"Roland."
"Something I can help you with, Spartan?"
Linda 058, the quietest member of Blue Team, is asking for his attention.
"How much nuance do you allow when it comes to personnel in potentially off-limit areas?" She asks while staring straight ahead, not bothering to look at the ceiling or a camera. Her voice is low and even.
He can't get a read on her in comparing her tone and body language to his wealth of readings from his crew. IIs were sarcastic, but also had a habit of malicious compliance and going right up to the point of rule breaking before stopping. It gave his captain and the admirals headaches but fascinated Roland all the more. Despite being a Ship AI and not having the experience of partnering with a Spartan, he found a kind of kinship in their creative problem-solving. What files were available to him painted a relatable picture. Linda had worked with an AI, receiving a glowing review, but Roland could read between the lines. Nuance, huh?
They were so interesting. Roland found himself struggling to balance his desire to see where this led and his ingrained purpose of maintaining order and function on the Infinity.
"That's an interesting question." He can't help the chuckle that follows. "Potentially, if someone was where they shouldn't be and I caught them, they'd get a warning to leave before I contact whoever's necessary to remove them."
"So you have to catch them."
Oh, this is fun.
"I see everything on this ship, Spartan. You may have the clearance, but I can't let you climb around the engine room."
A muscle twitches on her face. Roland counts that as a victory.
IIs were so much fun. 15 minutes after he's thrown down the gauntlet, Linda 058 disappears into a blind spot in a major hub of hallways. Roland notes it down for security and then leaves several threads around to ping when she reappears.
She does not reappear. He gets no ping. AI can't sweat, but the invigorating exercise of hunting for her sours when it's 4 hours later and the Captain is frowning at him.
"Roland, where's Linda?" Captain Lasky asks in front of three quarters of Blue Team.
"I may have chosen my words poorly." Roland says, his avatar slouching in defeat.
"Sir, she doesn't have her armor, so we can assume she's inside the ship." Kelly supplies.
Captain Lasky pales as he considers the thought. Roland hadn't considered that. "She would do that?" Lasky's voice is stricken. Roland feels a bit guilty as he watches his captain's blood pressure spike.
Fred is the only one who grimaces as they all nod once.
"You might have to admit defeat before she reappears." The Master Chief says to Roland. "Linda's competitive."
"What?" Roland gapes in shock. He doesn't want to give up so easily, surely there are ways to track the NI or IFF tag even if she's not in armor.
He stops himself from answering when his captain looks dolefully at him.
"Do I make a shipwide announcement and hope she hears it?"
He does.
180 painful seconds tick by and Linda 058 materializes out of a different blind spot halfway across the ship. Her ready gear has dust on the knees and elbows. The vents then? She walks into the meeting more relaxed than Roland's seen her.
Linda nods to the captain and Roland as she takes her place beside her team.
"Do I want to know where you've been, Spartan?" The captain sighs. His face and his biosigns are pointing towards no.
"Finding gaps in security, sir." Linda replies.
"Great." Lasky looks like he does not think it's great. Roland is just glad it's over. "You can help Roland with that when we don't have scheduled meetings."

You co-founded HeyGen in 2020 with the vision of reinventing visual storytelling through AI. Can you share what inspired you to start HeyGen and your initial vision for this mission?
Prior to founding HeyGen, I worked on Snapâs advertising team, where I spearheaded the integration of AI into the Snapchat platform. Later on, I switched teams to work on the AI-augmented camera. It was 2018, and AI didnât generate as much attention then as it does now, but our team worked hard to create items for images and videos using AI that didnât exist then. It was then that I realized the computer can create high-quality and realistic videos. I became excited about the potential of this technology and how it could entirely change how people make content.
New content platforms have revolutionized the introduction of the mobile camera. Weâve seen Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and other content platforms emerge and unlock a new way for content creators to create personalized, quality content. But even with the help of a mobile camera, there are still barriers to creating first-class content. Some of the barriers I experienced included: on-camera skills, the time and resources needed to record videos, and high production costs.
At HeyGen, we believe that the camera is replaceable. I grew my career in the mobile camera space, where I worked on software and technology to make it easier for people to create content. But that audience still struggles to create quality content solely using mobile cameras. Our team at HeyGen feels that if we can replace the camera, it implies that we can remove the barrier to visual storytelling and content creation, which gives us a step ahead.
Can you discuss the challenges HeyGen faced in its early stages and how the team overcame them to achieve profitability and rapid growth?
Since consumers are still new to the generative AI industry, they have many questions surrounding HeyGenâs ethical policy. We want to reiterate that HeyGenâs policies and products strictly prohibit the creation of unauthorized content, and we take the abuse of our platform extremely seriously.
Our security safeguards include advanced user verification, including live video consent, dynamic verbal passcodes, and rapid human review of all avatar verifications. To our knowledge, no misuse has occurred since implementing these protocols. Trust & Safety are critical to our business, and we are actively partnering across the industry to continue developing the tools and best practices necessary to combat misinformation and AI misuse.
How does HeyGenâs AI technology enable businesses to create videos 10 times faster and with less overhead?
When I started HeyGen, I learned that editing videos isnât costly, but hiring a video production team is. Because we live in a video-first world, businesses want to engage their audiences using video content but are held back by the cost and complexity of video production. HeyGen helps our more than 40,000+ customers do three things: create, localize, and personalize videos without the extra costs that involve hiring a production company. Our software is gaining popularity among marketing teams, where we are certainly seeing a rise in localization.
McDonaldâs and The Weather Channel are among your notable clients. Can you share more details about these collaborations and the outcomes they achieved using HeyGen?
The âSweet Connectionsâ McDonaldâs campaign was exciting for our team. It highlighted HeyGenâs technology, particularly our translation feature. Grandchildren recorded a message in their grandmotherâs native language with our Video Translate technology. It showed the world that AI is for everyone, including grandmothers and their grandchildren.
We also partnered with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on a global project for its new Weather Kids campaign, created in partnership with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and The Weather Channel. The campaign was part of UNDPâs efforts to boost awareness of climate changeâs impacts and mobilize people worldwide to take meaningful climate action for future generations. Viewers could watch the 2050 forecast delivered by Weather Kids: a special forecast from the year 2050 anchored by kid meteorologists powered by HeyGen.
The field of AI video generation is rapidly evolving. What future applications or advancements in AI video technology do you foresee, and how is HeyGen positioning itself for these?
If people can generate engaging video content, theyâll naturally create more videos, and every business aims to increase its video output in todayâs video-first world. For HeyGen, we see ourselves creating personalized videos for all of our customers using a full-body avatar.
How do you envision the role of AI in the broader field of digital storytelling and content creation evolving over the next five years?
There are many possibilities out there. People can now assemble footage and use AI-driven editing to create a polished video. If we continue on a path forward with generative AI, we can advance technology and significantly enhance performance. This could eventually lead to experiencing the outcomes of generative AI creation in the streaming space.
How will AI video generation eventually disrupt the film industry?
While HeyGen specializes in tailoring custom videos for businesses, we believe that compelling, high-quality content can be created even without a mobile camera.
When it comes to the creative arts, AI is certainly going to disrupt the film industry. While this is not HeyGenâs focus, imagine a world where people localize a video. This approach could involve leveraging generative AI instead of incurring additional costs on reshoots.
HeyGen recently successfully raised a $60M Series A funding, how will this impact the companyâs future plans?
Since our business has been profitable since Q2 of 2023, our Series A funding round was primarily focused on bringing world-class advisors and investors to help us scale. It will also help us accelerate our product roadmap and expand the growth of market teams based in LA, San Francisco, Palo Alto, and Toronto.

Part Five âRip?â
Barryâs voice made him look up from studying the information Miranda had brought them, finding the younger man standing there with a mug of tea.
âThought you might need this,â Barry set the mug on the desk.
A small smile touched Ripâs lips at that before he nodded, âThank you.â
Barry grabbed a seat and had a look at the screen frowning, âThat looks complicated.â
âTemporal mechanics,â Rip said before shrugging, âIt is.â He sipped his tea, âBut also one of my favourite subjects.â
âJust to let you know, Mick contacted us,â Barry said, âHeâll be here in about three hours. Apparently, Mirandaâs entry into the world has caused some issues that the Waverider needs to avoid.â
Rip nodded, âThat makes sense. It gives me some more time to look over this.â
âWhat exactly is this?â Barry asked.
âItâs the information on Kilare,â he explained, âIâm hoping this will give me some ideas for how to stop Dobson for good without destroying the Waverider again.â
Barry grimaced, âEspecially if weâre all on it.â
âWith Mr Ramon then we have higher odds that we will be able to escape before dying,â Rip noted thoughtfully, âAssuming everything goes our way.â
Staring at the former Time Master, Barry mused, âYouâre a glass half empty guy, arenât you?â
Shrugging Rip sighed, âI like to be prepared.â
 Gideon returned to Star Labs with the bag sheâd picked up from the apartment. Since they had a few hours before Mick could bring the Waverider to this time then she decided to pick up some things.
Reaching the small room Miranda had been given to rest in, Gideon knocked softly. The door opened and Miranda frowned slightly.
âI thought I was being left to sleep?â she demanded.
Gideon laughed, âAnd I know you are not managing to sleep as you are too busy thinking over everything.â
Miranda grimaced.
âYou and Captain Hunter were always alike in that respect,â Gideon answered the unspoken question stepping into the room. Placing the bag on the bed, Gideon opened it and pulled out the clothes sheâd brought with her, âThese should fit you.â
Confused Miranda stared at her.
âSince we have some time then you should have a shower and put on some clean clothes. It will help you feel better since you will not sleep,â Gideon rolled her eyes, âHonestly, the pair of you are as bad as each other. Trust me, I spent many years looking after stubborn Time Masters.â
Miranda picked up the jeans, t-shirt and jumper smiling at the soft fabric and pastel colours, âThis is kind of you. Considering I completely ruined your day.â
Gideon moved to Miranda and took her hand, âYes, I would like to have finished our ceremony butâŚâ she smiled with tears in her eyes, âSeeing you again alive and well is wonderful.â
Swallowing against the sudden emotion, Miranda whispered, âItâs nice to meet you like this and seeing RipâŚI never got to say goodbye.â
âI promise that I will do everything I can to ensure you get the chance to say all you need to before we part,â Gideon replied with a sweet smile, âYou both deserve that chance.â
Shakily Miranda forced back her tears and hugged Gideon tightly.

 The Waverider slowly descended into the carpark of Star Labs. Rip and Gideon grimacing slightly at the way it wavered before it landed heavily. After a few minutes the cargo bay door opened, and Mick Rory walked down to greet them.
He looked at Barry who was waiting with them, âTheyâre in the brig,â he noted before turning to Rip, âCanât you leave your memories alone for a few months, can you?â
âWasnât exactly a choice, Mr Rory,â Rip replied with a smile offering his hand, âGood to see you again.â
Mick took his hand and shook it quickly before turning to Gideon, âIs he treating you right?â
Gideon smiled at the large man, âOf course he is. Thank you for coming.â
âWhat the Englishman told me sounded interesting,â Mick noted, ignoring the flash of light and burst of air surrounding them as Barry moved the crew from the ship to the infirmary where Caitlin was going to check them out, before they would be put in pipeline where they would be kept unconscious until the mission was done. He patted her shoulder before heading into Star Labs leaving Rip and Gideon with the Waverider.
Stepping inside Gideon reached out and touched the bulkhead, closing her eyes with a sigh.
Rip slid his arms around her waist, resting his head against hers, âI miss being here too. Even when I donât remember her, I still miss her.â
Taking a quick breath, Gideon turned to look at him, âThis ship was my home for a long time.â
âI know,â Rip said softly, âMine too.â
She cuddled against his shoulder, âYouâre my home, Captain. Always.â
 Rip felt a calmness settle on him as they walked deeper into the ship, his home for such a long time. He thought that after the last time heâd left it that heâd never be onboard again. Glancing to his side Rip watched Gideon, the peace on her face to be on the ship made him smile.
It now made complete sense why heâd trusted her so quickly when they first met. Why her presence helped him feel calm at times heâd been overwhelmed and why when Jonas had broken his arm, Gideonâs presence was the only thing that helped soothe him.
âIâm sorry,â he whispered.
Gideon turned, âSorry about what?â
âThat you lost your connection to the ship,â Rip explained, âYou and the Waverider were linked for so long I know it must be hard.â
She stopped walking and took his hand, âIt was hard to leave but I knew that it was the right choice. I wanted to be with you, to be with Jonas even if it was only watching over you with the team at Star Labs.â
Rip frowned confused, âWhat?â
âI had Mr Ramon remove my memories for one year only,â Gideon explained, âIf we had not become friends during that time, then I was going to retain my memories and join team Flash. I would watch over you and protect you as I always have.â
Stepping into her Rip caught her lips with his in a soft kiss, Gideon sighed sliding her arms around his waist. He pulled her closer for a moment before they parted.
âWe should get up to the bridge,â Rip breathed, âWeâve got a lot of work to do.â
âOf course,â Gideon nodded with a smile.
As she started walking Rip tugged her back, âThen weâre getting married.â
Kissing him again Gideon held his hand tightly as they made their way to the bridge, âYes, Captain.â
 âAlright,â Rip said as Mick, Cisco, Barry, Miranda and Gideon joined him on the bridge, âIn order for us to get through the dimensional barrier then we will need to make a few adjustments to the engines, shields and ensure that the different power frequency doesnât cause any negative issues.â
âI need to go through the AI systems,â Gideon said, âThe backup will not be equipped for this trip. I need to do a full system upgrade before we can even attempt to cross the dimensional barrier.â
Miranda frowned, âBackup AI?â
âWhen I became human, Mr Rory helped me fix the crews memories so they believed my programme was destroyed,â Gideon explained, âBefore I left I created an AI program that would be able to run the basic requirements they would need.â
Miranda nodded, âAnd they were told this was a backup within the system in case something happened to you.â
Mick nodded, âThey had no one other than me to tell them anything else.â
âMiranda and I will go over the engines,â Rip took over again, âBetween us we should be able to get them ready by the end of the day. Cisco, Barry can you go over the shields and navigation, Gideon can let you know what needs to be tested.
âMr Rory,â Gideon spoke up, âWhile the systems are down please check in with Dr Snow, so we know you were not injured after your last mission. While we are reviewing the systems, the medical equipment will not work.â
Mick stared at her for a minute before nodding.
Gideon tapped an instruction onto the main console where her avatar once sat, âWe do not have long to get the ship ready for our mission so we should get to work.â
At her order, they all scattered to their assigned tasks. Gideon caught Ripâs hand giving him a quick kiss, smiling as his arm slid around her waist and he pulled her close.
âI do not want to come down there and find you two arguing,â Gideon told him, âI remember how you and Miranda could disagree at times.â
âGideonâŚâ
âYou would argue black was white just to irritate her,â Gideon rolled her eyes, âAnd she would do the exact same.â
Rip shrugged, âI will focus on my work and be perfectly amicable, I promise.â
Kissing him again Gideon waved him away before she headed to her own task.
 Rip grimaced as he looked at the engines for the Waverider, there was obviously no one on board who truly knew how to care for them. He had to remember to get Mick to ensure Jax came onboard to do more check-ups after this.
Glancing round he saw Miranda checking the core, Gideon had told him in excruciating details what she would do to him if he even thought about going near it, so he was working instead on the other side of the room.
âThis place is a mess,â Miranda said irritation in her voice, âWho the hell is caring for the ship?â
Rip sighed but didnât answer knowing she didnât really want to know and it was a discussion he didnât want to start.
Silence descended within the room as they worked. It felt strange but comfortable to be working across from her again. Even if they did argue, as much as Gideon had reminded him, he and Miranda had always been a formidable team.
âDamn it,â she snapped suddenly.
âWhatâs wrong?â Rip asked glancing over his shoulder.
Miranda frowned, hands on her hips in a stance he knew well. It said there was an issue that was going to be solved come hell or high water.
âI need to do a full reset,â Miranda sighed in annoyance.
Rip nodded, âOh,â he fell silent for a moment, âDo you want a boost?â
With a soft smile she nodded, âThat would be helpful.â
Moving to the right section of the bulkhead Miranda waited for him. Rip crouched, cupping his hands in a foothold for her.
âOn three,â Miranda said before they silently counted in unison and Rip pushed her up.
Miranda opened the hidden compartment which held the reset sequencer for the time sphere. Only the Captain of the ship usually knew the code, but she and Rip used the same one, it had been one of their ways to be together.
âDone,â Miranda said but before Rip could lower her the entire ship shuddered. Rip stumbled which meant Miranda fell. He managed to catch her before she hit the ground but they both overbalanced and Miranda tumbled forward into Rip how stumbled into the bulkhead holding onto her.
Rip stared at the woman in his arms, her dark eyes staring into his. Without thought they moved closer to one another and their lips touched in a soft kiss. Mirandaâs arms tightened around his neck as Rip pulled her closer their kiss deepening.

Paradise P.D: Animated Series Review
Iâve reviewed a lot of animated - and live action - shows and movies on my blog. Nearly everything Iâve felt the need to comment on has been seen in a positive light. I donât shy away from harsh criticism nor do I actively avoid notably poor content; it just so happens that the things Iâm most interested in discussing are things I have mainly positive comments on. Paradise PD has come along to break the mold. The genuine disgust I have for this series is a first for me. I hate this show. This is quite possibly the worst show Iâve ever given a complete watch. The characters are either heinously cruel or insultingly generic. The premise is cookie cutter and derivative as hell. The humor is forced, predictable and just depressing more often than funny. The animation . . . . oh God, the animation. Iâve had non flavored rice cakes with more taste than this show. Itâs like anti-creativity. Even as Iâm typing this Iiâm getting riled up just thinking about it again. Alright, let me calm down. Letâs break this show down piece by piece, starting with the writing.

Synopsis: Kevin Crawford is an aspiring young police officer who is determined to prove himself to his dad, Chief Randall Crawford of the Paradise PD. Chief Crawford has a hard time trusting his son because of a firearms accident that occurred when Kevin was very young (the less details you know about that the better) but his ex wife mayor Karen Crawford forces Randall to bring Kevin into the department anyway. Kevin thus joins a motley crew of  . . .ahem . . . ââââhilariousâââââ cops including Gina; the badass uber violent super cop whoâs both the sex appeal of the show and has a fetish for morbidly obese men (yes, seriously), Gerald Fitzgerald; the Cleveland Brown of this show whoâs basically just a well mannered  token black guy, Dusty Marlow; the morbidly obese innocent cop whom Gina constantly harasses sexually (and yet when male characters harass her on the show she threatens to beaten them for pervy comments, so . . . hypocrite), Stanley Hopson; an elderly officer whose whole schtick is being senile and doing gross shit . .  and finally Brian Griffin-I mean Bullet; the canine unit whoâs also a drug addict . . . and being a drug addict is basically his whole shtick. They get into a bunch of wacky shenanigans, a lot of gross stuff ensues, yadda yadda yadda
So admittedly, this isnât a bad premise for a show of this style. If Brooklyn 99 has proven anything itâs that a police department is a great and refreshing setting for a sitcom with tons of potential for jokes as well as diverse characters having great chemistry with each other. Plus itâs an archetype I donât see very much of (Iâd like to point out that I consider this different from the âbuddy copâ archetype which is literally everywhere, because rather than focus on two cops it involves an entire precinct). This show is kind of like if Seth Macfarlane made a Family Guy spinoff centered around Joe Swanson (except that sounds a million times more amazing). But while Paradise PD sounds like a good concept for a show on paper, itâs execution is poorer than poor. Ironically for being such an off-the-beaten-path premise for a sitcom the show doesnât take very much advantage of it. Itâs not like the case in every episode is particularly interesting and itâs certainly not like Archer or Brooklyn 99 where the humor comes from the mundane nature of the job that nobody really talks about (filing a lot of paper work and performing basic job duties). Instead itâs premises about banging police cars that have AIs that behave like abusive girlfriends . . .which is a premise weâve seen before. Or itâs about a father not understanding his childâs hobbies . . .which is a premise weâve seen before. Or itâs about a fighter being overly confident in the ring only for his cohorts to discover heâs rigged to lose in the next fight . . . which is a premise weâve seen before. Here lies the biggest problem of this show: itâs so rinse and repeat itâs insulting. For every episode this series has at the moment I guarantee the Simpsonâs  has done it and has done it better. Or Bobâs Burgers has done it. Or Archer has done it. Or Brooklyn 99 has done it. Hell, Family Guy and American Dad are the most comparable shows to this besides Brickleberry for obvious reasons and as much as I have distaste for those shows even they do these recycled premises more justice than Paradise PD does. Basically the only thing giving this show a real identity is itâs intense gross out visuals which, given this shows shockingly limited animation style, gets stale very quickly. But what is Paradise PD missing that all those shows have in common (besides maybe Family Guy/American Dad)? The answer of course is likable characters.
Characters
*itâs worth mentioning that the intro is the only bit of decent animation this show has. In fact itâs deceivingly good. Be patient . . . Iâm getting there.*
If the synopsis I gave at the beginning is any indication itâs that every character suffers from one of two problems; theyâre either intensely unlikable or are bland overly used archetypes . . . sometimes both. Gerald Fitzgerald, Dusty Harlow, Stanley Hopson and Bullet are all archetypes you can find in every animated sitcom ever made. Itâs the token black guy, the morbidly obese dumbass, the senile old man and the drug addict/self centered misogynist. They all have one joke and one joke only dedicated to each of them. They are walking talking punchlines. So is every character in this show, though everyone else to a lesser extent. Gina is my favorite because her backstory episode is the only one where I felt even a little bit intrigued about how one of these assholes came to be. Our leading man Kevin is a bland standin. Heâs just an overly naive, wide eyed kid with a dream. Heâs an empty husk for literally any kind of viewer to step in (except for women when it comes to the love interest stuff). The chief is an angry, pompous asshole. In fact every character is just a horrible human being. Even characters that are either overly innocent or are meant to be good natured like Kevin or Dusty are constantly selfish or arrogant in some way. I get that thatâs just the way the show is written comedically and in truth all comedy is rooted in the flawed. Itâs why a lot of sitcom scenarios are written around characters acting selfishly or stupidly. But thereâs being flawed and then thereâs . . . being relentlessly cruel. It makes it hard to root for any of these characters in the end, especially since the show also occasionally tries to have a moral center and because . . .well . . . yâknow . . . everyone is bland as shit.
Cast Performance
So this is by far the best aspect of the show and the number one thing it has going for it. Why? Because the show has a cast thatâs . Â . . depressingly a bunch of all stars. Tom Kenny, Spongebob himself, voices the chief and he does a great angry authoritative father. Grey Griffin, the actress behind such favorites as Daphne from Scooby Doo, Frankie from Fosterâs Home for Imaginary Friends, Vicki from Fairly Odd Parents and Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender, is the mayor and also turns in a great performance for what she has to portray. Not to mention the occasional guest like John Dimaggio and Tara Strong. If youâre any fan of voice acting chances are youâll find a favorite of yours in this cast if not a handful of them. I say this is depressing because all of these people could do so much better. I get it, a paycheck is a paycheck, but . . . . imagine the immensely creative and stunning projects they could have been a part of instead. If a contract with Netflix is what you want, hit up Alex Hirsch! Heâs signed on with them now and I bet heâs got something worthwhile! Thereâs not a whole lot to say about the rest of the performances, mainly because again, itâs hard to care about any of these characters.
Visuals (Animation, Design, Composition, Visual Storytelling, ETC.)
sigh . . . .okay . . . letâs talk about the animation. Before I go into it I just want to be real and sentimental for a second. Iâm an animator. I just recently broke into the industry by working with Copernicus Studios . . . and itâs been nothing but a sincere pleasure. Iâve learned more about animation and Toon Boom in 4 months than I ever learned in 4 years of freelancing. It put into perspective just how much thought and effort goes into even the most minimal of shows. Itâs a popular trend to shit on professionally animated content for looking such a way or moving in such a way but if those people only knew the countless hours and passion that goes into even just a couple of seconds of footage theyâd never talk shit about these shows ever again. Not only that, but Iâm an admin for an animation study group on Facebook with thousands of members from all over the world. Animators from every country and every skill level share their work for constructive feedback. Through this Iâve met many people who work in the industry . . .including someone who worked on Paradise PD. And I know them to be among the most skilled and masterful animators on the page. For all of these reasons, I will NEVER call animators lazy or unskilled if they produced a show like this. Itâs typically the result of a certain type of direction or method of moving the production pipeline along. I have no doubt on my mind that every animator who worked on this show is wonderfully skilled and will do well in their careers going forward.
But this show does not demonstrate that. Far from it. This show goes out of itâs way to be lazy. It cuts so many corners theyâve made a perfect circle of hell. Just take a look at most of the gifs Iâve posted in this review. Notice the popping of proportions and lines in moving pieces. Notice certain features like noses or eyes that move around for no damn reason at all. Look at features like eyebrows where thereâs no easing or seamless transition or any basic understanding of the 12 principles of animation aside from perhaps arcs. Just watch a couple of seconds of this show and count how little frames are in every motion. If you told me this show was made in Go! Animate I would believe you. This makes Family Guy look like Studio Ghibli. Maybe this show could have been more pleasant to look at if it had vouched for motion keyframes instead of what appears to be the occasional stop motion keyframe (users of Toon Boom or Flash will know what I mean) but even then thereâs nothing to look at really. Add to that the eyesore of a colour scheme, the uninspired character designs that if I put them in silhouette you would not be able to tell what show itâs from, the absolutely barebones backgrounds that look like early 2000s Newgrounds cartoon sets and the unimaginitive shot composition that consists almost entirely of wide shots and medium wide shots and you have what can hardly even be defined as animation by mainstream televisions standards. The last show I reviewed was Matt Groeningâs Disenchantment and while I had my issues with that shows animation, at least they were only errors a trained eye could see in a show that was otherwise appealing. Paradise PD is just a tragedy. The only positive comment I can make about the animation is that the FX department did a great job animating the blood and the boogers and any type of nasty body liquid . . . .and I am depressed that that is my one positive comment.
Audio (Soundtrack, Sound Mixing, Sound FX, ETC.)

Like most of the stuff I review, the audio isnât particularly notable in this show. Thereâs no memorable soundtracks to speak of. The sound mixing is fine. Thatâs really all there is to say. Iâll be honest; Iâll talk about remarkable soundtracks in this section or clever/bad sound mixing when I can, but I mainly just include this section so I can score what iâm reviewing in a way that adds to a 10.
Conclusion
Paradise PD is the worst show I have ever given a review for and quite possible the worst show Iâve ever made an effort to sit down and watch. Almost nothing is redeemable about it. Itâs the lowest common denominator for animation and it unsuccessfully trades any hint of originality for unfunny shock humor. It fails not because of missteps, but because of a refusal to make the necessary steps in the first place.

Star Citizen Patch 3.1.0
We are excited to announce the release of Alpha Patch 3.1.0 to all Star Citizen backers. This update marks the first of four quarterly patches planned to be released this year, and the inaugural success of the new delivery schedule. At the start of the year, our internal teams underwent a restructuring to allow for easier coordination and focus on a particular aspect or feature. Thanks to this new approach, the development team was able to more efficiently tackle the goals outlined for 3.1 on our Production Roadmap and introduce several new gameplay features and optimizations to Star Citizen.
Starting with Alpha 3.1, players will find new ways to interact with each other. The Character Customizer is now accessible from the main menu and allows players to distinguish their avatars with various combinations of hair style, skin tone, and more. This is just our first iteration of the system and we have a lot more planned for future releases, but even at this early stage it is exciting to see all the new and varied faces exploring the halls of Port Olisar and Grim HEX. Starting with this patch, players will also be able create Service Beacons from the Contract Manager in their mobiGlas and hire other players to provide Combat Assistance or Personal Transport. This new system will be a huge boon to players who may need a ride back to a station from the wilds of Crusaderâs three explorable moons, and represents a whole new revenue stream for players willing to lend their combat skills to aid others. This feature is also an initial iteration that will be improved and expanded in future releases, but itâs an important step in further developing the kind of emergent gameplay that is intended for the Persistent Universe.
Not only that, the bevy of new flyable ships and open-canopy vehicles introduced in this patch will provide players exciting options for crewing up and exploring the Stanton system together. Measuring over 150 meters, the Reclaimer is the largest ship currently in-game. This heavy industrial salvage ship from Aegis Dynamics is so massive that the environment art team has expanded Port Olisarâs landing pads to accommodate it. Explorers will want to get behind the sticks of the Anvil Terrapin. The shipâs robust shield system and distinct layered armor make it ideal for exploring untamed space. Racers looking to experience breakneck speed can climb into the MISC Razor. The ship will be a perennial Murray Cup contender thanks to advanced Xiâan thruster technology and a streamlined design.
Plus, exploring Crusaderâs moons just got more exciting with the addition of the Aopoa Nox Kue and Tumbril Cyclone. The Nox Kue is a special variant of the renowned Xiâan open-canopy racer that Aopoa redesigned specifically for Humans. The Tumbril Cyclone is a rugged off-road ground vehicle ready to tackle any terrain. Both vehicles are perfect for traversing Cellin, Daymar, and Yela, which also received upgrades in Alpha 3.1, thanks to planetary technology improvements that updated surface textures and topography for more visually dynamic and detailed landscapes.
Additionally, the development team polished many of the exciting features that launched with the 3.0 patch in December. Updates to the IFCS (flight control), AI, the Personal Manager tool on each playerâs mobiGlas, ship weapons, ship damage physics and overall performance optimization, all are working in concert to improve the overall Star Citizen gameplay experience.
NEW FEATURES
Character Customizer
With this feature, players can adjust aspects of their characterâs physical appearance, such as face shape, eye color, hair style, and skin tone.
Logout Improvements
Players can now safely logout from major stations like Levski, Grim HEX, and Port Olisar. This will persist between sessions for when players log back into the game.
Pirate Hunter
Player will now earn virtue reputation for killing NPC pirates.
Interdiction and Quantum Jamming
AI pilots can now carry Quantum Jammers aboard their ships. These devices produce a field which stop Quantum Drives from being able to function. Players who are interdicted will now first have to destroy ships carrying Jammers before they can Quantum Travel away to safety.
Service Beacons
Service Beacons have been introduced to the PU economy. Using the mobiGlas, players can create and customize âPersonal Transportâ or âCombat Assistanceâ contracts that will be made available to other players to complete for the agreed upon payment. After the contract ends, players will be able to review each others performance with a positive or negative rating.
Combat Markers
The old Combat Markers were replaced with new 3D versions that include target brackets, hit indication, and missile locks.
Visor Screen
The visor screen has had additional hit effects for shields and hull areas added to the displays for your ship and targeted ships.
A new MFD screen has been added allowing players to customize the view angles of the target/self visor screens.

The Sword Art Online anime poses the question of what happens when virtual games have life-or-death consequences? Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is a game that poses the question of âwhat happens if you turn an anime about a roleplaying game into an uninspired action-RPG?â While itâs a nice change of pace from the faux-MMORPG adaptations weâve seen from this series, it still doesnât quite hit the target.
Fatal Bullet puts you in the world of Gun Gale Online, the massively multiplayer online VR game seen in Sword Art Online II. Of course, itâs not really VR, and itâs only partially online, but itâs all part of the fiction. You begin as a newbie to Gun Gale Online, customizing an original avatar character and venturing into the world alongside your friend, Kureha. On your very first mission, you stumble across one of Gun Gale Onlineâs rarest finds: an intelligent, humanoid AI called ArFA-sys. Itâs not long after claiming your treasure that you meet the rest of the Sword Art Online crew and get the opportunity to hang out with famous faces from the anime like Kirito and Sinon.

Food War Amazon stunned everyone with its $13.7bn acquisition of grocer Whole Foods. The news was greeted with a flurry of analysis about 'disruption' in the space, yet arguably this is a data deal, one that helps Amazon to further understand a customer segment with a relatively high disposable income that is not particularly price conscious. A lucrative bunch, Whole Foods can provide unrivalled insight into their spending habits. These consumers are arguably more likely to utilise voice search too - make no mistake, spoken word is central to everything that Amazon does. Indeed, right on cue, the $20 Dash Wand was released this month. Available to Prime Members, it can be stored in the fridge and owners can ask it to suggest recipes or order ingredients. Soon brands will be able to buy $2.8m ad packages for Thursday night NFL games. As the service is for Prime members only, Amazon will already know the user's spending profile and purchase history. Ads could therefore be hyper-targeted with Alexa incorporated to monetise the experience: "Alexa, order Domino's." "Alexa, ask Fandango for Spiderman showings." (Having shown the trailer.) It will be interesting to see if Amazon pivots on alcohol; the NFL has. Next, a patent filed reveals Amazon's vision of drone delivery. Imagine a hive with trucks delivering goods at the bottom and parcel-laden contraptions flying around up above. It raises so many interesting questions: Will there be delivery hours (to combat noise pollution)? Will police require machines to have a 'disable' option? Will they be programmed to crash land in a secure location? Bloomberg revealed that Amazon has issued over $1bn in loans to its Marketplace merchants. Algorithms are used to identify good sellers, who repay the debt via sales made on site. Also, in an effort to reduce credit card fees the company is offering members a 2% bonus if they use their debit card to transact. A lower $5.99 monthly fee for Prime has been introduced (usually $10.99) for people who receive financial assistance from the government. It is being seen as a move against Walmart. 'Prime Wardrobe' was revealed: customers who order more than 3 items can have them delivered to their door (in a return-ready box) with 7 days to try them. The twist? Customers are only charged after they have made their returns or the time elapses. However, the biggest fervour was reserved for the news that sports behemoth Nike will start selling on Amazon - having resisted for years. It is being positioned as an attempt to control their brand and reduce counterfeiting. (Ps. Nike manufactures all NFL kits.) Tech Talk
Snapchat have copied Facebook! 'Snap Map' allows friends to share their location, then search the world to find connections and click their Bitmoji avatar to reveal snaps. Whilst you have to opt-in, the service has attracted concern as younger users might connect with people without knowing who they are, inadvertently revealing sensitive information such as their route home from school. (Other Snap UX updates can be found here.) The iPhone turned 10: here is how it changed the world. Next, Apple aired 'Planet of the Apps', a TV program that is essentially Shark Tank for app developers. Contestants present concepts to a panel of celebrity judges; those who progress are mentored by one of the stars, who help them pitch a private equity firm for investment. It is Apple's first probe into this increasingly competitive space - the show has been met with 'mixed' reviews. Time Warner meanwhile, are banking on Snapchat and 5-minute programs to engage viewers. After months of controversy Uber's CEO, Travis Kalanick, was forced to step-down by investors. The very real fact is, like other leaders before him, Kalanick's antics led to a negative perception of the brand that was gaining momentum (as consultancy cg42 reveals). A new threat looms with news of an alliance between Curb and Via to offer car-pooling for New York's yellow cabs. Facebook has hit the 2bn user mark. However, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced "What we really care about is being able to connect everyone". He will no doubt be pleased then that their drone Aquila, which aims to bring high-speed internet to all areas of the globe, had a successful second test flight. Also, they are testing image verification in India in an attempt to prevent people's pics being repurposed on fake profiles; it may be rolled-out globally. Instagram has released ways for influencers to clearly label sponsored content, rather than relying on '#s'. It comes following pressure from the FTC. Messenger's AI now speaks Spanish. Twitter has had a UX facelift. Finally, Google has moved into job search, adding filters, allowing Gmail alerts, and mapping commute distances, all to help people find the perfect role. Small But Important
In the same month that LVMH launched their '24 Sevres' eCommerce site (early opinion), Conde Nast announced they were closing their own shopping portal, Style.com, striking a partnership with online retailer FarFetch instead. Conversely, fashion content site 'Who What Wear' has announced a shopping app.
Even bigger news stateside was J. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler's decision to step-down. There have been many professional obituaries written - this is one of the better ones - the fact is, he lost sight of who the customer was and what they wanted.
Transparent banks are aiming to satisfy the millennial customer. One example, Aspiration, has created 'Aspiration Impact Measurement' which rates businesses on their employee welfare and diversity. It passes this onto their customers so that they can make ethical purchases. Another area of interest is transparent pricing within manufacturing; the theory being that people would rather know what the underlying costs are, even if the mark-up is significant. IBM Watsonâs Interactive Speech now Integrated into Star Trek: Bridge Crew
Last month Ubisoft released its biggest title yet for virtual reality (VR) platforms with Star Trek: Bridge Crew. VRFocus reported that the studio planned to add voice commands using IBM Watson integration in a future update, that update has now arrived.
Using IBM Watsonâs interactive speech and cognitive capabilities, Watson Speech to Text and Watson Conversation, players will now be able to talk and interact with the virtual Star Trek: Bridge Crew members for a more realistic experience, mimicking that of the multiplayer mode for an experimental beta period.
Whether players are commanding the U.S.S. Aegis and U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, IBM Watson services can be used to operate crews consisting of only AI characters or a mix of AI characters and human teammates with Star Trek: Bridge Crewâs full-body avatars that include real-time lip-sync.
Developed by Red Storm Entertainment, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, is a team focused experience with players taking on one of four roles, Captain, Engineer, Tactical Officer, or Helm Officer. Each has their own part to play in successfully completing missions.
VRFocus reviewed the videogame, giving it 4 stars, saying: âStar Trek: Bridge Crew definitely appeals to the core fan base. The production values are top notch making Star Trek: Bridge Crew one of those rare VR experiences that feels like a AAA title, and likely part of most VR gamersâ collections.â
Aside from Star Trek: Bridge Crew Ubisoft has released Werewolves Within and Eagle Flight. During the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 last week it was revealed that the studio had formed a VR partnership with the film company SpectreVision to create Transference was announced along with a new adrenaline fueled shooter, Space Junkies.
Ubisoft hasnât stated how long the experimental beta period will last, as further details are revealed VRFocus will keep you updated on the announcements.

After two decent experience with VR (Eagle Flight and Werewolves Within both reviewed back in January), Ubisoft is back at it with an adventure set in the Star Trek universe on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. A simple concept to put you on the deck of the USS Aegis, with Star Trek: Bridge Crew reviewed on PlayStation VR.
What strikes first is the quality of Star Trek: Bridge Crew. I feel that thereâs been a lot of work on the finishing touches, the complete tutorials complete, a well-made ergonomic menu, and of course an immersive mood with great visuals and sound effects. You start your first step in the game by creating your avatar, and head to the academy where you are taught how to manage a ship. The bridge consists of 4 main posts: the Captain, Engineer, Helm or Tactical seat. Each one has access to specific functions to manage the ship, accessible via a touch panel. Once the training at the academy is complete, you head to the briefing room to choose the missions of your choice, and I should note that this game is mainly designed to be played with 4 real person in coop.
For this, a microphone is mandatory, and while Star Trek: Bridge Crewâs matchmaking is rather well thought out because it is possible to join a random game at any time, creating a private party with your friends is the optimal choice, but that doesnât mean you canât play alone with AI-powered characters (which I donât recommend honestly). To be honest, when I started the game, I had no real expectations of Star Trek: Bridge Crew, but my first couple of minutes on the bridge were really enjoyable, to a point that you almost believe youâre on the USS Aegis! You listen, analyze and plan on the spot as if you would in âreal-lifeâ, giving orders or executing them depending on your role.
The captain has the general view of the situation and is the only one who can have an overall external view of the ship. The helmsman steers the ship and is responsible for defining the headings during space-time jumps. The engineer is in charge of managing power distribution and repairs, and finally the Tactical officer manages weapons and targets.
The singleplayer missions are not as limited as one might think, because a system of order has been put in place. It allows to give general orders where each station will act accordingly, or to give specific orders to each NPC, allowing parallel tasks to be performed at the same time. For example, the helmsman can prepare for a hyperspace jump while a tactical officer teleports survivors a certain outpost. That is if the AI ââunderstands your order clear, but according to Ubisoft, an extra update in summer will bring an experimental version of the IBM Watson interactive speech and cognitive system, so that players can use their natural-language or accent to do all this, instead of attempting to mimic a sort of set speech pattern and voice tonalities.

As youâd guess, the goal of Star Trek: Bridge Crew is to manage the USS Aegis in order to carry out missions entrusted to you by the Starfleet. From rescue of ships lost in space, to an expedition to our Klingon friends, the missions are rather well scripted even for a non-Star Trek fan. If at first itâs pretty easy and repetitive, things get more delicate when progressing throughout the game, where orders given to crew members need to be precise and fast⌠Is there enough energy left in our shipâs phaser to continue a fight? Or do we begin to program the jump out of the area by prioritizing our energy to the shields? The choices are not necessarily obvious and the situation will depend on the ability of each person to manage his position.
But not everything is perfect though. The first concerns is that the graphics engine, although optimized for VR, doesnât guarantee fluidity in general. The second flaw, one that I really canât get over with is the actual position of your virtual hands in the game, and the way they move as if they are hit with arthritis. Itâs not just aesthetic because sometimes to press some buttons on your controls, the location is sometimes unclear, and can really annoy in situation that require fast responses and reflex.
Star Trek: Bridge Crew was reviewed using a PlayStation 4 downloadable code of the game provided by Ubisoft Middle East. The game is only playable on PlayStation 4 with the PlayStation VR, and on PC with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. We donât discuss review scores with publishers or developers prior to the review being published.
While Star Trek: Bridge Crew might lose players along the way because of its particular gameplay and lore, the game has the merit of being original compared to other VR experiences on the market. After two decent experience with VR (Eagle Flight and Werewolves Within both reviewed back in January), Ubisoft is back at it with an adventure set in the Star Trek universe on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
