AHKJ: Exiled was such a disappointment honestly; the entire show is just a Clover x Sage Moondancer slow burn fanfiction that mischaracterizes Clover and gives her an arc her character didn't need.
It should've been about KJ overcoming his egocentric self-pride; he should've been the one to go through the "quest" Clover did. That scene where KJ mourned Maurice's "death" should've been more developed, but instead there were 2 episodes of Clover being brainwashed into a trap she already knew about (remember when she caught onto the Crocodile Embassador's attempt of "educating" Madagascar with his etiquette guide?)
At least Uncle KJ and Koto were good villains. Karl was the cherry on top.

-Was Karl attracted to Mary Ann?-
Inspired by another poster, I did an analysis on this (all in s4e5 - Jungle Rooster), here's my final answer: NO, he wasn't.
Karl displayed intense discomfort (*cough* gay panic *cough*) when Mary Ann flirted with him. UNTIL she says their relationship would grant him power over the kingdom, then he's suddenly open to the idea. Later, he calls her "darling" when she's angry at him. That WOULD BE the only evidence of straight attraction he ever shows in the entire show... if it wasn't obvious that he just pretended to like her for his own gain, and called her that to get out of that situation.
I previously believed he was bi b/c of this episode, but their short romance can easily be discredited as fake. Therefore I conclude that Karl is 100% le gay ~

Ted CLEARLY has a crippling mancrush on Julien (I get it Ted, me too). Sadly there isn't evidence for the other way around. KJ loves Ted as a friend, & would definitely be down to get it on (they're both sluts - Julien IRL, Ted only in his thoughts b/c internal homophobia). The friendship & lust is there, but NO romantic tension. They wouldn't work as a couple, no Queen Ted sorry y'all
also I love how Ted spends the entirety of Exiled away from Dorothy, yet NEVER mentions her, or gives ANY hints that he misses his wife at all 🤣
Not gonna lie, Julien x Ted IS freaking adorable. I like it! It's cute!
It IS! Like, it's hard to deny how many moments they have and I don't know why it isn't a more popular ship, and that's hypocritical coming from me I guess because I also can't pinpoint why it's hard for me to make content for them.
Anyone else remember when Julien did his mating call thing and Ted looked at him like THIS?
And when Julien asked if the rooster was making that noise because he's "Lonely and looking for love?" And Ted looks at him like THIS all "aren't we all?"
Like I'M SORRY but he's SO CUTE. The sugarbuns shipper in me is also like, he can just be looking like that because he wants to be loved by someone but this post isn't about the sugarbuns *laughs nervously in Multishipper*
Ted looks at Julien like this too.
"Oh I'll cheat for you King Julien~" EXCUSE ME?
Slapped his ass/checked him out at least twice.
They had these two moments together like, need I say more? I screamed so loud when I first saw it.
The sheer joy on Julien's face when he saw Ted in the sub, just bodily launches himself at him to hug him tightly enough to take Ted's breath away. I don't have it here, but Ted was also like :O when Julien hugged him like he couldn't believe this was happening.
That time they thought they were gonna get eaten by foosa so they cling to each other.
I also REALLY need to get that scene where Julien sidles up to prison guard Ted because he wants to be let in and they're both vibing. AND he called him Teddy.
Like, there's a lot of material. It's cute and funny and soft when they want to be, and they are both soft boys.

Okay literally only one person enabled me so I’m actually going to go talk about Mort in Exiled cause I love him and he’s great
Mort started out the season as a prisoner but unlike most of the animals imprisoned, he kept home and believed that Julien would come back but instead of just waiting around he takes his chance to take out Koto. He puts so many plans to action and tries doing good.
And Koto only sees this as a joke. He sees Mort as a joke. He invites him into the circle as his jester because he doesn't take Mort seriously. Mort is confused at first, sure, but then he takes to the job as needed and does an exceptional job with what he's given.
As soon as Nurse Phantom tells him he can use his newfound position to help Mort goes right at it. Now Mort k n o w s he's seen as idiotic. He k n o w s he's seen as childish and uses this to his advantage and it's cunning.
His plan to escape was great and he managed to stay serious and use everyone's strong points to help with it, even with the hiccup given by Zora.
And may I remind everyone that Mort wrote a FRICKING PLAY IN ONE NIGHT. Like that is hard! And he said so himself he's only written novels before and speaking from personal experiences writing scripts is h a r d. He pulled it off and managed to do it so that everyone can escape while the play was being put on.
Even as it failed he didn't give up and became even more serious and headfast as the season went on guys he carried the braincell the whole season-
But then, Enter Mortacus Khan.
Mort is faced with his true nature. He's faced with his immortality and apparent memory loss. All of a sudden he's not just a genetic anomaly or really old and it's insane to hear. But before he can try to proccess any of that he's supposed to fight this other version of him that LITERALLY HAS AN ARMY AND IS WAY MORE POWERFUL THAN HIM.
He wins, though. If only through wit and knowing himself.
Then he gets whipped into his own mind to find Smart Mort and sees all these other versions of him. These people who are him that he's absorbed but had no idea that he did. He's forced to come to terms with his identity and his apparent eldritch self and he accepts it. He owns his self-image because despite his eccentricities, despite his immortality, despite these worlds and knowledge he somehow detached himself from, he is his own person. He is Mort. Not Smart Mort, not Hippie Mort, not anybody else but himself. It's his head and his body and his life.
He then controls and commands an entire goddamn army of himself and only this manages to turn the tide of the war of the beasts. It's because of Mort that they manage to have at least some kind of a winning chance.
All of this to say, Mort is a good person and a good character. He's weird and offputting but when the chips are down Mort is headfast, strong, smart and will do whatever he can do help and save the people he loves.
It's interesting cause in a way, his arc in Exiled resembles how people treat Mort.
Most people see him as a weird and useless element of the show, until they start to get to know him better and he turns funny but nothing to take seriously. But then he develops. He's got his own life to him and during Exiled he gets serious and starts getting taken seriously by the audience.
Mort is a genuine good person and good character. He's weird but he's smart and cares deeply about his friends and will do whatever he can to help them.
Because despite being eldritch, he has compassion, and that's something nobody can take away from him.
His arc starts with him being a jester to being the leader of himself in every sense of the way and I just think that's poetic and beautiful.
#this is less of an essay and more of a rant oops#that's fine#this one goes out to tumblr user @stabby-stabby-yall this is your fault#I just genuinely think Mort is a good character#All Hail King Julien#all hail king julien exiled#AHKJ#Mort#Mort AHKJ#ahkj analysis#i guess#hdjfjdk

this is my 1st time hearing about this. The idea that Mary Ann actually killed him (thus making it King Julien's su1cide) is super disturbing no thanks. Also there's just no evidence for that
King Julien might've died after losing Maurice however & I've seen that not everyone realizes it. At the end of Ex ep 10, it's revealed everyone around King Julien witnessed him just standing there void of visible emotion for an unspecified amount of time. During that same time King Julien "traveled" (he didn't really it was an early death hallucination) to a mine field then to Frankrilla (AHKJ's version of Heaven). This implies that King Julien might've temporarily died of heartbreak (look it up a real thing that can happen if someone is devasted enough from losing someone) & only came back to life b/c Piny (AHKJ's version of God) told him Maurice was actually still alive. Either that or it was just very heavy hallucinating
RANTING ABOUT EXILEDD
Alot of ppl say king julien commited suicide because maurice died but it was literally an accident IT WASNT ON PURPOSE?? Like ya he tried to shove himself in the fossas mouth but he dint actually die when he died it was an accidnt he accidentally leaned on the bomb yall just dumb

~ AHKJ men ranked by fruitiness ~
This doesn't concern whether they have straight attractions/are bi, this is solely focusing on their level of gay attractions
OK so let me explain some of my placements (this is all a mix of canon and headcanon)
(EXPLICITLY GAY) Pandy is basically canon, Rob x Julien was likely a thing in the past. Horst earns his spot for ONE line - "He had me at *sips* BOOTY!" so he likes Julien ass
(SOME LEVEL OF GAY) "Uncle" falls in love with a woman because she's masculine. SMort & Morticus by association, they ARE Mort, so they share the same foot fetish for Julien, even if they've "overcome" it. Hans & Sage both have relationships (x Mort and x Manhawk, respectively) that debatably could just be friendships. Bruce likes woman with facial hair, that's something
(MAYBE GAY) Abner seems to have feelings for "Banana Guy Mike"
(STRAIGHT) Butterfish is straight & married, but frankly probably wouldn't mind anything that went on with his body. The dolphins & Koto are straight, but wouldn't be against giving other things a try. Timo's just desperate for female love. Barty's just a straight, married guy minding his own business. On the other hand, Grandpa Mort's an unspoken homophobe. Snake was litcherally manifested by Ted's DID to be the straightest man possible
(ACE) I think Maurice is a clean man (he doesn't make ONE innuendo the entire show), but he might just be keeping his sex life with Julien private. Fred & especially Willy are too innocent for this. As for Hector, I think part of the reason he hates life is because he never got it on, and (probably) never had kids

Ahkj thinks they wrote a strong female character because she can punch things, but in actuality they wrote a strong female character because she's wrong about everything and right about everything and she’s strong and weak and she’s precise and clumsy and sensitive and mean and she has a lot to learn and even more to teach and she's a cocky shithead and she feels like a freak because she's got a low self esteem and she's the best thing that ever happened to me
#i have made this exact post before and i will always make it at least once more#etc etc#txt#i am crazed i am insane perhaps a little bit wacky#clover#ahkj critical#analysis

that’s how I feel too! he and Clover grew to care about each other, yet it still feels truer to their individual lives that they belong in different places. I’m here for Sage adding to Clo’s emotional journey, not for Clo setting aside the focus of her journey to be with her new love interest. so strange
