Arthur Dales hyping up Scully in front of Mulder at the end of Agua Mala like:
"If the FBI's 💅best agent🤌 hadn't SAVED 😤 EVERYBODY'S 😤 LIVES 😤 THEN I SHUDDER TO THINK 😫😫 what would have happened 🤢 If she hadn't been there ??? 😭😭 You owe her an APOLOGY. 😠 YOUR HAND IN MARRIAGE. 😡 YOUR SOUL. 🤬 YOUR FIRST-BORN CHILD !! 🪓 she brought LIFE into the WORLD in a the middle of a hurricane !!! SAVED YOUR LIFE AT GUNPOINT ???? 😩 IF I HAD A PARTNER HALF AS SAVVY AS HER WHEN I WAS WORKING ON THE X-FILES- 😪😪😪"

Agua Mala
There are so many great Mulder and Scully married moments in this episode that push it up in my esteem, but I would love to see Scully retell this story to someone after a few glasses of wine. The time Mulder dragged her into a hurricane to find a sea monster and she ended up delivering a baby at gunpoint while said sea monster was coming out of the light fixtures, instructing a clueless man to fire a gun at the smoke detector, all while Mulder was locked in the hallway after being attacked himself. Also, the shot comparison between the grumpy Shipley’s cat and Scully because they’re wet and miserable is perfect.

i'm actually watching agua mala and scully is so mad at mulder but she still goes with him and is trying so hard to get through to him, and he's trying so hard to convince her this is worth their time. and the thing is, it was completely crazy for them to go to florida in the middle of a hurricane. and they're both right about what's happening, it is essentially a parasite but it is also very sea monster like. but scully absolutely figures out that fresh water / not salt water kills it. and mulder claims he figured it out because of the cat, but she 100% tells him before he's attacked and sees the cat in rain. if he hadn't been listening to her, he wouldn't have made the connection with the cat, and he could have died!
literally i love this episode. he wants to prove himself to her, and she still wants to talk sense into him. they both want the other to believe them & trust them & listen to them and they're both so caught up in what happened in two fathers/one son, they don't understand how much they do trust each other & believe each other & listen to each other.
two precious idiots. this is such a married episode too.

The funniest part of Agua Mala was when the deputy started reading Mulder and Scully their rights and then he was distracted by a cat and Mulder just snatched his gun out of his hand

Eight Nights of Mulder: Day 3, Celebration
Wherein Arthur Dales muddies the water post Agua Mala.
*****
Having lost more than three sheets to the wind, Arthur Dales insisted on recounting his story-- "our first meeting"-- to his newest comrade in arms (“After all, it’s been years since we’ve talked about the good times!”) Mulder widened his eyes, shrugged his shoulders, negated in vain; and Scully, now well and truly curious, tilted her head in assent and was swept away in an immeasurable tide of words.
The 50s, Mr. Mulder, human experiments, bug men.
Mulder wearing a wedding ring.
That detail was usually woven in from the start; but it was worse, Mulder decided, to sit in suspense three-quarters of the way through, watching and waiting, before Scully’s rapt attention shifted and her furrowed forehead smoothed out in sudden, stunned shock. Dales made his late-stage reveal even worse by delicately dancing around the topic, looking between them as if imparting a great secret from the past and wondering if it was his right to do so-- only thinking to respect his colleague’s (if Mulder could be called that) personal boundaries now that the damage was done.
It would be easy from there to make assumptions, Mulder knew: in fact, he’d made quite a few himself when Dales first laid out his father’s involvement. Further research proved, however, that Dales-- while loyal to the truth-- was incredibly erroneous at remembering details, dates, or even the order of some events. His father, a family man before he’d ever married or had children; the bug men experiments exposed at a much later date than previously stated; and Mulder himself, a married man without a ring or a wife to his name.
The ring itself was from a separate story he’d quid pro quo-ed with Dales; and the insane adventure of the three stooges and their government conspiracy somehow blended irrationally together in the other man’s brain, becoming chaotic and mangled and inseparable in every future retelling. The ring-- which had turned green and itched his finger after one hand washing routine-- had been merely a prop Mulder hadn’t had time to remove before the VCU shoved him back on the streets. They worked him back-to-back-to-back in those days, turned Golden Boy right around when he walked in weary from his latest assignment. But work was work was work; and it didn’t matter if he wore the duds of a previous case or if his hair was drooping from fatigue, Spooky Mulder was back on the streets within the hour.
If he’d known what grief that ring would cause, Mulder would have thrown it in the nearest dumpster before he left the Hoover Building.
Dales was still limping through the rest of his story; Scully was drawn darkly inward; and Mulder wondered why sea monster tentacles gouging into the delicate skin of his neck hadn’t been punishment enough. Then Scully turned sharply to her right, eyes shining, mouth dipping in a mock frown. “Mulder,” she crooned; and he smiled, relieved. “I didn’t know you were forty-eight.”

Thanks for reading~
Enjoy!

slight episode spoilers for s6 e3 "Triangle"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Triangle-verse!Skinner: undercover wwii resistance woo
George Vincent: I think he was camp
Don't like this propaganda? Reblog it with your own or send some in my askbox
To jog your memory, here are the episodes they're from:
Triangle: Mulder goes in search of a ship that disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle in 1939. But when he gets on board, Mulder finds that he—and all the passengers and crew (including some strangely familiar faces)—are still stuck in the past.
Agua Mala: Mulder and Scully are looking forward to cases again. Instead, Arthur Dales, now living in a Florida trailer park, calls the agents for help when a neighboring family disappears; and, with a hurricane approaching, Mulder and Scully find themselves trapped with a group of residents in a building where there is something in the water.

👽 Random X-Files Fic Rec
Mulder and Scully fly off for a case (which Mulder does not explain until they arrive, which is so Mulder), but they end up learning as much or more about each other than about the case. That is obviously great. Title: She Walks at Night Author: fragilevixen (@fragilevixenfic) Summary: Mulder’s knack for getting himself and Scully into sticky situations leads them to the heart of NOLA at the tail end of Hurricane season after barely surviving a Floridian storm—to investigate a rumor of a notable Voodoo Queen and missing girls trying to bring her back. Length: 27,416 words Classification: UST into RST, case fic Rating: Mature Spoilers: Post "Auga Mala" Favorite line: Her words were like foreplay as a chill went up his neck while he hesitated to divert his field of vision toward her for a moment, thoroughly intrigued at her level of interest in the unknown for a change. Read the story!

So in Agua Mala, Scully follows Mulder into a hurricane, saves the day and yet Mulder can barely get himself to give her any credit? I can't tell if this is a poor writing choice and thus dismiss it or not, but it comes across as particularly self-absorbed and petty and kinda ruins whatever fun I was having with the rest of the episode
i mean. i think part of the fun is that he's embarrassed to admit he didn't figure it out all on his own, and that he needed to be saved after dragging her into a really bad hurricane...
and it's all after two fathers/one son where he struggled to listen to scully & understand where she was coming from, almost walking to his death with diana & csm if she hadn't called him. as much as scully was shaken, he was too and to walk her into another disaster is a lot.
i don't really think it's about not giving her credit. mulder hasn't completely learned to verbalize things, he's not very comfortable doing it and the only time i can remember him doing it is in leonard betts, and later in the show (amor fati & later).
personally, i love their struggle with communication because it's so real. they're really good (usually) when it comes to work, but if it gets ~personal, they get a little weird. like philosophical, talking around it, making jokes, becoming detached to get it out. it's so hard for them to talk directly, but they do when it's important. when they're ready, or they have to be.
i don't really think i'm the best person to talk about ~mulder & his reasons, but i don't think he was being a jerk and discounting scully <3
