Agravity Boys Anime Voice Actor Discussion

In the case that Agravity Boys ever gets both an anime, here’s some ideas… I’m not good with remembering Japanese voice actors, so I’ve only got ideas for english voice actors so far. If you have any ideas for voice actors for any language, feel free to share! It’s fun to think about.

Hearing that PPPPPP has been cancelled is making me feel so sad and so angry. It's not the first time Jump axed one of my faves (RIP Mitama, Magu-chan, Agravity boys...) But this one really stings.

PPPPPP was a real gem among the current lineup-- unconventional and with so much potential. Of course an introspective story about classical music was never going to be the number one series in the home of the battle manga. But it took some other Jump staples as a starting point (the school setting, the mediocre main character persevering through effort, friendship and (piano) battles) and turned it on its head-- using beautiful silent panelling to convey sound! And convey complex emotions! Gently twisting reality and portraying devastating loss by making chapters 61-64 feel off and dreamlike. Losing competitions but winning the bigger fight: helping his siblings one by one by showing them kindness and love. A manga you'd expect in a magazine like Harta, or published alongside Totsukuni no Shoujo.. but read by thousands in Shonen Jump!

Yes they took a risk but you'd think that PPPPPP did enough to prove its value in Jump during its 70 chapter run: Despite not scoring high in weekly rankings, the volumes sold well (350.000 for 7 volumes in one year is not bad!!), it's been recommended by other mangaka (including Shiro Usazaki, artist of Act-Age), it ended up on a few lists of manga to watch out for (THIS MONTH placed #10 in the Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics of 2023). It was by no means an unpopular or bad manga! It did not deserve to be cancelled like this. It's not even moving magazines or to Jump+. Not getting a long epilogue chapter in Giga or online. Not getting extra chapters in the final volume. Just an axe.

This story deserved a proper ending. No way Lucky is getting his catharsis in one 24 page chapter. No way are we going to gain insight into Gakuon's mind. We won't get proper reconciliation between the siblings. Find out how Don and Shikato played the piano, their relationship with Lucky. Or see what happens to Lucky's friends who have been deciding on their own futures.

I can only commend Mapollo 3 for still giving us so much in those last few chapters. I don't know how much notice he was given before the axe, but I am thankful that we got to meet Don and Shikato and got Dada's flashback. Shikato's creepy, dissolving smile and the "average Gakuon fantasy" two page spread will be seared into my brain for a whille.

For us readers, for a few days more, Lucky is still lying in that graveyard with Gakuon gazing silently at his unconscious body. It seems like a cruel, poetic coincidence that actually feels fitting for this manga. I hope chapter 70 takes us back there, so we can say goodbye to Lucky, and Mapollo 3's quietly captivating story.

News from Marseille, 6 March

Protesters against the pension reform marched in several southern French regions, including Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, Vaucluse, Gard, and Hérault.

​​2. An 18-year-old man was shot dead in the Castellas housing estate in the northern suburbs of Marseille on Monday evening. The young man tried to seek refuge in a mosque but was unable to do so before he was shot. If the killing is linked to drug trafficking, it would be the 23rd such homicide in Marseille this year.

3. The French Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, has promised Kenzo, a young boy with cancer who was attacked during an Olympique de Marseille football match, a special moment during the Paris Olympics.

4. The Pope will visit Marseille in September 2023 to celebrate a public mass at the Stade Vélodrome.

5. Karim Jebli, actor from the web-series a, was the victim of an attempted murder in Marseille. He was attacked by a group of hooded individuals with a metal bar and was shot in the hip, but his condition is stable.

6. Several dog owners have reported finding poisoned balls in a park in Marseille's 12th arrondissement.

One dog was poisoned and others have narrowly avoided ingesting the balls, which have been described as looking like papier-mâché. The local mayor has called for an investigation and for a separate area to be designated for dogs in the park. The deputy mayor for green spaces has promised an investigation and follow-up actions. The park has reportedly experienced other incidents of aggression and vandalism in the past.

7. The award ceremony for the 8th edition of the Departmental prize for Research in Provence will be held on December 5, 2023, and the  deadline for applications is June 26, 2023. 

8. Olympique de Marseille ended a disappointing season with a 1-0 defeat against AC Ajaccio in the 38th and final round of Ligue 1. The team played poorly in a difficult atmosphere at the François Coty stadium. Croatian coach, Igor Tudor, will be leaving the club.

Some more prompts and ideas:

- dunno how many of you know that one winter scene from Toradora, but there's this scene where Taiga gets lost in a snowstorm, Ryuji saves her but she thinks it's another friend and basically spills all the beans on how she feels about him.

So, the Vashmeryl version of that, Meryl gets drunk (for once) and Vash piggybacks her back to the hotel. Meryl is half asleep as well, so she thinks it's Milly, and she laments how, after finally seeing Vash again, she just slips right back into their old song and play. She cant help but put up her usually angry front and she hates how she cant be honest with her feelings, like how she's so happy he's doing well or how scared she is for him to leave again. Oh, why did she have to fall in love with that guy. Meanwhile Vash is freaking out more and more by the second.

- Another fitting Toradora thing; Vash realising he likes Meryl (before she shares her feelings with him) and she takes him by the ear to avoid another catastrophic situation. When he whines she pulls him close to tell him to shuddup when he suddenly goes all red, which in turn makes her fluster.

- This one is more Stampede, but Meryl doodling on Vash's prostetic arm, drawing cute and fun patterns all over it.

- Meryl doing this grand speech (lecture) on how Vash isnt a monster, how he cant run and keep himself from relationships forever, yadda yadda, basically declaring her lover for him. Vash after lotsa hesitation kinda accepting, then sheepishly asking if she could say that again. All of Meryl's grandeur falling away as she suddenly becomes way too embarrassed to repeat herself.

- if Meryl cant reach stuff bcs of her height, instead of just reaching for it himself, Vash picks up Meryl so she can reach it herself. She hates it but eventually relents when he keeps doing it

- Vash has lots of nicknames for Meryl, some which agravate her to no end, so she fires back at some point. She calls him chicken boy, fruity and other feather or plant based things. She does use it sarcastically but also endearingly when she calls him "apple of my eye" and stuff like that. Meryl thinks she's getting on his nerves but he highly enjoys this.

Trigun hyperfixation has an iron grip on me and I desperately need to get my head to think of something else. Especially cos I crave so much for good stories but to my suprise, a lot of (vashmeryl) fanfics I read are extremely samey, especially the post-anime ones.

That being said, while reading, I was actually suprised to see a few scenarios or themes never explored? So I thought, since I can't get my brain to focus anyways, might as well drop some vashmerly hcs and prompts.

the one I'm most suprised has not been explored at all is Meryl and Milly trying to teach Vash how to actually talk/flirt with women. I still dunno how Vash came to be known as a womamizer in the og anime cos he is abyssmal when it comes to flirting. So, after an especially embarassing rejection, Meryl picks a fight with Vash as usual and he's all like "yeah, then you show me how it's done." Not one to chicken out on a competition (and with avid encouragement by Milly) they set up a fake date. I can totally see it going really funny, Meryl trying her darn hardest to act like an actually interested date but can't help herself from cringing and and scoffing at how stupid Vash' approaches are. So basically, it would be a mix of silly flirting and a lot of bantering. By the end Meryl admits that he's not half bad if he just turns down the goofiness a bit, mentioning if he just ties up the night nicely he might even score a second date (she means in general, not realizing that it sounds like she's implying a date with her). Cue Vash doing the only smooth move in his life and stealing a goodnight kiss, asking "well, did it work?"

less of a prompt or headcanon, but in all the scar-centric fics Ive read, not once is it mentioned how Vash has a literal cage over his heart? Ive always loved this little design aspect, since it so obviously shows Vash fortifying his heart and keeping everyone out. I can also see Meryl being all smug like "well, im small and nimble, and the spaces between the bars are wide, I can easily slip through"

another funny thought about the metal grids on his body would be them cuddling but Meryl's hair gets caught on the metal and now they have to akwardly maneuver out of this situation

Meryl uses any and all situations to be taller than Vash. Since she is so much smaller than him, she usually stands when he sits, especially when they argue, tries to be just a few stairs above him or walks a few more steps up a slop so she can peer down on him. Not that her presence isn't big enough already, but she for sure tries her hardest to assert dominance.

To her dismay, Vash likes to use this moments to pick her up. I dunno why, but since Meryl is so small I can see Vash just enjoying it to pick her up and twirl her around. Lugging her around like a pretty looking sack of potatoes.

Vash is a human pretzel. He will contort his body in ways to hug as much of Meryl as possible.

Meryl becomes incredibly good at ignoring Vash if she needs to work. She could be sitting at her typewriter, only noticing Vash has her in a vice grip when Milly asks if she isn't distracted.

Despite how spiky it looks, Vash' hair is actually pretty soft and fluffy, and once Meryl finds out she uses any opportunity to run her fingers through it. Vash doesn't mind cos he totally digs the head scratches (humanoid typhoon? more like humanoid doggo)

when traveling together, they usually share a thomas cos Vash can't ride for shit. Vash likes to be dramatic and complain about it (cos he's a big boy thank you very much) but he can't deny that he wholly enjoys being cuddled up behind Meryl for hours on end.

Welp, just some food for thought cos my brain is in Trigun overdrive. These are specifically based on the 98 versions of them but I have a whole lot for Stampede as well haha
