#4: Field of Screams

I'm not sure what it was about this episode, but there's something that just made it feel like a top tier episode to me.

Maybe it was that the whole episode took place on a farm. Farms tend to be simple places with simple tasks -- just a lot of them. Maybe it's because it was nice to have a standalone season 2 episode -- nobody we'd ever seen before except our protagonists, their parents, and Cav and Dak's boss.

Maybe it's because there was no Doofenshmirtz. His MML appearances range from "actually contributes something to the story" (i.e. Abducting Murphy's Law and Spy Little Sister!) to "just an annoyance" (i.e. Pace Makes Waste and Doof's Day Out) to "just turning Milo Murphy's Law into Phineas and Ferb" (i.e. The Dog Who Knew Too Much and Agee Ientee Diogee). But in this one, he was not present at all.

Maybe it was the song. Yes, I remember listening to the one hour loop posted by Jonathan of The 2nd Dimension. And to be honest? I had never thought about it before, but I see why he likes it so much! Sure, the lyrics are nonsense without the visuals, but it's still a great song that way. And the chase scene only makes it more entertaining.

Maybe it was the whole alien storyline. I like how ridiculous it was that the farmer would only let aliens on his property, so then Cavendish and Dakota actually dressed up as aliens (because they just happened to have alien costumes in the van) and... then just snuck onto the property anyway. I suppose the whole alien chase scene was mostly just Milo Murphy's Law -- i.e. anything that can go ridiculous chain reaction, will go ridiculous chain reaction.

Or maybe it's just because of the overall positive vibe in this episode. Sure, the barn blew up with milk, and they got covered in hay, and Zack got turned into a scarecrow. But at the end of the day, like Zack said, none of that really mattered because they finished the chores.

Whatever the case, I loved this episode. I hope to see more like it in season 3.

This is my main problem with Milo Murphy’s Law Season 2. And this is why I really want a third Season. Doofenshmirtz took up so much screen time that other side characters didn’t get a chance to shine. 

What about Brick and Savannah? They appeared in 8 episodes in Season 1, how many times did they appear in Season 2? Two episodes. I don’t understand why they didn’t have them show up more in the background selling pistachios. They only did that once in Adventure Buddies. In Season 1, we saw Cavendish and Dakota selling pistachios in the background a bunch of  times. Even though sometimes they were on screen for just a second or two, it showed that they were still there. And it’s a cute Easter egg for someone with a sharp eye.

Drako? He really seems like an interesting character. He appeared/was mentioned in 10 episodes in Season 1 and 4 episodes in Season 2.

Elliot, one of Milo’s rivals, appeared/was mentioned in 11 episodes in Season 1 and 7 episodes in Season 2.

AND EVEN ZACK! A MAIN CHARACTER! In Season 1, the only episode he wasn’t in, was “The Little Engine That Couldn’t”. In Season 2, he wasn’t in the episodes, "Agee Ientee Diogee", "Disco Do-Over", "Dog Walker, Runner, Screamer", and "Now I Am a Murphy". Four episodes without Zack showing up for even a second!

But to me the most noticeable ones were Cavendish and Dakota, they appeared/were mentioned in 26 episodes in Season 1 but only 18 episodes in Season 2. That’s mainly because they had to cut something out to make more room for Doof.

The acceptations are Scott, Mildred, Sara, Milo’s parents and Milo’s classmates Chad, Mort, Amanda, and Bradly. They appeared in about the same amount of episodes or more in Season 2 than in Season 1. 

Don’t get my wrong, I love Doofenshmirtz. He’s the main reason why I like Phineas and Ferb. But I started watching Milo Murphy’s Law because I liked the show. And it was really cool that they had a crossover episode. But Doof already had 4 Seasons to shine while it feels like the characters in Milo Murphy’s Law only had a Season and a half because Doof took up so much screen time.

At about minute 8, Doof confuses Diogee as a completely different dog when he loses his hat, just the same way he confuses Perry, and I just think it’s funny. Milo Murphy’s Law-Picture Day/Agee Ientee Diogee Recap

Milo has trouble on Picture Day, while Doof finds Diogee familiar. Spoilers below.

Milo wants a decent school photo for his mom, but the camera man runs off when he sees him. Milo bemoans that he just doesn’t show up on film. Chad and Mort takes this to mean that Milo is a Vampire. Melissa and Zack go on a series of wacky hijinks to get a photo. They don’t.  

Meanwhile, Dakota and Cavendish get hired by PIG a paranormal detective agency run by the ancestor of their old boss, who is younger than their boss because time travel. Granted they’re just janitors.

Later, Doof remembers seeing a dog that looked like Diogee. Turns out a while back, Diogee accidentally walked into a OWCA base. Major Monogram mistakes him for Agent G, they are both dogs. He his sent after Doof. Diogee wanders around his apartment, accidentally stopping him by just doing dog stuff. At one part the hat falls off, which is why Doof find Diogee familiar.   A cute pair of episodes. Diogee stuff wasn’t that interesting on its own. Curious where the PIG plot goes.

Picture day gets ¾ while Agee Lentee Diogee 2 out of 4.

Annoying title is annoying 

You’re a terrible house guest Heinz. 

“Oh right, they go out during the day.”

I kinda find this line a bit sad. 

You know, considering Heinz can make callbacks to sentences spoken in the A plot of PnF, it’s still pretty impressive he manages to do this as well. 

I like Agent G’s design. He looks like a good pupper.

“PROFESSOR BANNISTER IS MORE OF A CANADIAN THAN YOU, WEIRD ANNOYING CANADIAN STEREOTYPE!”

Heinz’s home looks a lot different than I remember it from PnF. I could’ve sworn it was a darker purple. 

Bagpipes: A great source of iron and carbohydrates. Grill for about 20 minutes. Serving size: 4 people. All the fun of grilling and vegetarians can eat it too! 

Note: Scotland will not be held liable when your landlord shows up with an eviction notice cause you make annoying bagpipe noises when you speak. 

So according to this episode, it’s been a month since the Pistachion invasion. Guess we can add that to the timeline. 

Conclusion: Personally this is my least favorite episode out of the batch we received so far. There were some cute moments, but overall it just feels more PnF with one MML character (or three, but Milo and Melissa didn’t actively contribute). At least Perry’s enjoying his vacation though!

Season 2

Now that basically the first half of the second season has been aired (well, not in America), I would like to comment that I liked what I've seen.

- They have corrected a bit, a problem I had with the first season that was the low exposure of the secondary characters. Now we have seen more of that, new relationships, there have been changes in the status quo (although Milo and Elliot are still working on that), constant continuity. - There are several funny episodes, not all of them have to do with the plot of this season, but seeing the characters in their day to day, is the best way to continue knowing them. - The appearances of Doofenshmirtz don’t bother me, but I must say that ‘Agee Ientee Diogee’ is my least favorite episode of this half.

Now we just hope that Disney will treat the series better, and with the recent change to Disney Channel it can reach more people and they can appreciate it... right? Right?!

Anyway, this is just my opinion, it's okay if you do not agree with me and blah blah blah.

MML Reactions: Doof’s Day Out/Disco Do-Over

Doof’s Day Out:

Oh gosh, this wasn’t fun at all.

Everything was just so... forced. It felt contrived and inauthentic.

Doof was a dick to Sara, seriously. That entire subplot with her was forced as heck, too, Sara forgives him just because the story needs it, I didn’t buy it. :V

This episode for something focusing on Doof so much sure seemed to not really give a fuck about the other people in his life, huh? Like, they even try to go “aww he finds a family” with the Murphys but like... PnF was all about him and his weird sort of found family with characters like Vanessa, Norm and Perry. It feels like such a massive oversight and disservice to Doof.

The whole “destined for greatness” stuff really rubs me the wrong way. Like, Doof even outright admits he’s pretty much Prof Time just because the plot future said so. He also had his disasters basically cause accidental good things, which just feels hollow to me. Instead of actually fucking up and growing, he causes some accidents with actual consequences and everyone rewards him because they can’t be arsed writing actual growth here.

Not only are they pushing this “you have to be mr great person” even though PnF was about him learning that he was great as he is and doesn’t need to be more (in LDOS he literally chooses Vanessa over being successful tri-governor :v), they can’t even have him actually do genuine great things to push this story. Either they’re accidents that just so happened to somehow benefit people, or it’s something he will do because the plot destiny said so. The story is doing the work for him, basically.

It really feels like they’re trying to push a whole “look at how great Doof is!” while only giving us a really shallow version of the character that doesn’t seem to care about the substance of what came before, just casual references that go “hey remember PnF????”

The parents joke with Martin and Brigitte... just no. IDK what it is, it just feels kind of infantilising to me? That and seriously Doof doesn’t need parents. I get what they were going for, but I’m not into it.

Thank fuck recurring raccoon didn’t appear at the raccoon sanctuary, and if they did they didn’t get that stupid theme song.

Yeah, not a fan of course. Like Agee Ientee Diogee, I was honestly just bored. It was mediocre, it felt so lifeless and dull to me. I know people like this episode and more power to them, but I just can’t.

Disco Do-Over:

This was also pretty bleh. Didn’t really care for the plot here to be honest.

Oh look, Doof is forced into yet another episode, what a surprise.

Not a fan of the viral video callback. Why is he suddenly okay with the fame he got, where is this off-screen development? Also seriously, I feel done with PnF references.

Cavendish and Dakota plot was meh. Some lawn gnomes are apparently alien shit? Eh. Also yawn if this affects PnF, I’m done with that shit, unless it’s a creative or funny reference it’s just exhausting by now.

Ha ha it’s funny because it’s an old lady who actually is feisty and strong, how original.

Dakota had a mother that physically abused him? Between this and Doof, does Dan have some mummy issues?

There were one or two times I chuckled, but aside from that the humour fell flat for me. Especially that “wow those skaters are amazing” joke. It went on for way too long, my patience was gone at this point.

Recycling of Dance Baby as background music, okay then.

I’m just exhausted at this point, this episode also was just bleh. Let’s hope the next ones are better, I guess.
