Hi!! I noticed you've gotten quite a few asks about people developing romantic feelings for their QPPs, and I just wanted to know how they know? Do they suddenly want to romance-coded things with their QPP, like date them and kiss them? I'm still trying to figure out my aromanticism so I was just curious how you make the distinction!

Honestly, QPRs are unfortunately extremely vague. There happens to be another word for exclusively non-sexual QPRs, that word being agaplatonic (more about that here) and if that’s any indication, there are traditionally both romantic and sexual things that you can do with your qpp.

To me personally, the defining qualities that separate a QPR and a romantic relationship are how they generally behave and act with each other around others, and also the willingness to really make things obviously romantic. You can have a date with anyone, but to me, making it fancy and stuff like that are the parts that can make it romantic?

I might be talking in circles here, but to me, QPRs are more of a best friend relationship to the outside world. Everything you do would just appear more casual to others, if that makes sense? Even though you’re doing romantic-coded things. It’s really complicated and I might not fully understand it all myself, but yeah.

i remember some exclusionist and anti made some blog and movement to try to erase "queerplatonic" (as "QUEER IS A SLUR") and replace it with "agaplatonic" but all these years later they're still the only person trying to push that when they try to police ace people and other folks' sexualities. they're still at being an anti too unsurprisingly
