1) Stealth Strike or Breaking Ranks. I can’t decide. Maybe Stealth Strike.

2) The Mysteries of Chopper Base. I don’t like spiders. I still don’t like spiders. But seeing Kanan and Ezra fucking launch Sabine completely over that cliff and yet some how she managed to not die will never not be hilariously scabby.

3) I fucking love it and I am so excited and absolutely terrified. I am holding onto that one bit Dave Filoni said in the last Rebel’s Recon with all my life. It was something like “yes, I definitely will continue the Ghost Crew’s story. But not for some time. I want to do it, but I want to take time and do it right.” It’s been five years and Dave is a bloody wizard with this crap, I trust him.

4) Zare Leonis.

5) I wouldn’t change any plot honestly.

6) Kanan and Hera no doubt. Then… Hondo and Mulch.

7) Kanan, I feel. I mean, I’m not saying the lad is totally pushed under the rug, hell no. But I just find him so interesting as a character and his backstory (Last Padawan Comic/ A New Dawn (not TBB shit) is just incredible. And I feel like a lot of people don’t truly understand what Kanan did in Jedi Knight and how big that is. He accomplished what no other Jedi had done before (cough cough Anakin cough). He had strong attachment to the crew and would do anything for them, but he was able to let it all go when it mattered.

8) I would have put an episode in season two devolving into a Kanan and Hera only mission. Just them working together like they used to back before all the kids came along. You see how well they work together and know each other. But of course there’s tons of tension and it only makes us more confused if they are actually together or not.

9) Kanan. Cowboy Jedi for the win.

10) Jedi Knight was the first piece of Star Wars that made me cry.

11) “That’s not regulation.” “I kinda like it,”

12) Season two’s hair color, but season three’s hair cut and armour. But then also Epilogue season four armour slaps and deserves a mention.

13) Chopper. It’s not even fair, mate.

14) In Shroud of Darkness in season two as Kanan and Ezra are coming back. I just remember them chillaxing in the lounge and Hera has her feet up in that wooden chair that is so out of place. I think Zeb and Sabine were there too. They just all look so cozy and chill and I imagine they have similar comfortable silences like that a lot.

15) I’m gonna go with Kanan and holo-Hera’s talk on Mandalore where Chopper says “get a room already”.

16) Former Admiral/ Former Commander/ Commander Bron Titus.

17) I love the fact that they totally introduced a canon way to time travel in Star Wars and yet it was so subtle half the fandom didn’t even realize it.

18) I think Ezra and Thrawn are stuck together in an alliance, learning from each other, scrapping by, and planet hopping and trying to find their way back but they’re so fucking lost.

19) This is so bloody random, but little Celeb and the other Initiates were getting a lecture (from space Jesus himself) about the Jedi Temple’s message system and dude spoke his intrusive thoughts and ended up saving himself (and like a bunch of other Jedi or something) when everything went to shit. I love his inquisitive nature because I am the exact bloody same.

20) Either when she out flew Darth Vader (because she is the best pilot in the galaxy, suck my dick Anakin, Han, and Rey). Or when her and her father get into a heated argument on the Ghost in season two and she code switches back into her accent. It’s such a cool little detail that really adds so much to her character.

21) In Stealth Strike when Chopper goes full rouge, turns off the gravity and then back on with no care where Ezra is. Then also he purposely runs over Ezra’s hand in legit attempted murder. And the episode of course is topped off with some glorious war crimes by yours truly.

22) Commander Meiloorun needs a mention. But truthfully when Zeb saved and kept Kallus alive on the ice moon. On the surface (hah), it seems like the normal hero thing to do, but remember in the first episode where Zeb was willing — feeling absolutely terrible about it, but willing — to leave Ezra behind. So… Character Development!

23) When Sabine was training with the darksaber and finally let loose. That final fight when she poured her heart out and knocked Kanan to the ground. Even if Kanan let that happen to not interrupt her flow, visually, it was braw and badass as hell. Plus the voice acting in that scene, my god it’s amazing.

24) His final scene in Rebels. Ezra made connections and friends everywhere and finally all his hard work paid off. He was able to bring together such a random group of people together for a cause that they wouldn’t have been a part of without their loyalty him. He avenged his parents, Kanan, and the people of Lothal. Ezra kickstarted the rebellion, telling them, yes it was possible to fight back on a larger scale. And he did it with giant Space Whales and Force Wolves which I love because it shows exactly what type of Jedi Ezra is.

25) Totally the gun-saber. That thing is pure dead brilliant. I have the plastic toy version and I adored that thing so much in an epic laser-sword battle, I smacked it against a tree and broke it.

26) Lyste for sure. Imagine how much fun it would be to mess with him? Pure gold.

27) I with there was more depth into Sabine’s character in the beginning. We know she joined up with the crew not too long before Ezra did. I’d say less than a year definitely, six months or so probably. But in that time she has come to openly say the Ghost Crew was a family to a street rat she just met, but then she also still doesn’t fully trust Hera as we see in Out Of Darkness. I would love more of a glimpse into her adjustment and background from between after The Dutchess and before the Ghost Crew.

28) Hondo. Why is this a question?

29) The music and sound effects whenever Ezra or Kanan use the Force. I don’t know what it is, but I love the Force theme. It adds so much and produces such a magical feeling when it’s used.

30) The Call. It’s such a great episode. The most important episode in the entire series is disguised as a throw-away filler episode. Brilliant.

I really, really like this moment from King’s Tide between Hunter and Alador. These two don’t really know each other, they don’t really trust each other. They are cooperating with each other for the sake of their loved ones. But in this moment they both feel their sigils glow and they both know what that means. And they just look at each other in understanding.

I really like each facial expression here. Hunter looks vulnerable in a way we haven’t really seen him look before. We’ve seen him shocked, we’ve seen him traumatized, but we haven’t really seen him with this kind of child-like vulnerability. This is one of the few times Hunter actually looks like a kid, he’s looking up at the adult in the situation for some sort of reassurance. 

Alador, inspire of knowing Hunter for a couple of hours tops, looks at Hunter’s sigil before he looks at his own. Obviously, he’s worried about himself. He doesn’t want to die. He doesn’t want his kids to be orphaned. But still he’s looking at Hunter with sympathy and confirmation. He knows that if they fail, which they are honestly very likely to do, this boy who is no older than his own son, is going to die.

Yet neither one of them says a word, because they don’t want the younger kids to worry. Both of them will suffer in silence for as long as they can manage. This brief moment is the only moment they have to allow themselves to show their mutual fear.

I think something interesting in the damian&danny twins/danyal al ghul au that i don't see explored,,, basically ever, is how Danny heals.

I always see his personality made more similar to Damian's, which does make sense bc of his altered childhood. But i think it's far more interesting to keep it more canonincal.

He doesn't text w proper grammar bc he rejects the strict way he was raised. He makes puns and jokes and laughs freely because he was never allowed that when he was young. He freely admits to caring about his friends and family bc that is something he can have now.

I want to see a healed Danny. I want to see an Al Ghul that actually got to leave the league, got to heal and become normal.

And it'd add a really interesting aspect to his death, and Phantom. He escaped and he healed and then he still got fucked over and lost it all.

He's right back to having to fight constantly, his friends are weaknesses that can be exploited against him, and his parents are fighting him.

Danny directly and explicitly rejecting his upbringing and taking his life back. Eating nasty burger and playing doomed and having friends and crushes like a normal teenager.

And then losing it all.

Hopefully lukewarm take (i haven’t checked)

I recently finished reading the Heroes Of Olympus series (having read pjo immediately prior) and I think it’s pretty shitty that the worth of all of our good guy characters are, to a notable degree, measured by their ability to find and engage in romantic relationships and are then greatly defined by those relationships. (Disclaimer; I don’t think I’m in a justified position to discuss lots of the racial criticisms for HoO but I do agree with a lot of em and that aspect does factor into this topic)

7+ important recurring characters is quite a lot of people to balance, even in a five book series and all of the non-pjo characters suffered immensely for it. But one character arc I anticipated over and over again that never ended up happening was any one character finding fulfillment from the non-romantic relationships around them by de-prioritizing the idea of a perfect someone in favour of accepting the support of their friends/comrades/campers/family/etc. (Second disclaimer: I don’t expect a novel saga from 2010 to have characters declaring their orientations (or lack thereof) aloud but the idea of a character learning to define themself by or through something outside of romance isn’t a new one)

I think Percy and Annabeth are very cute and work well as a couple (are they the only white couple?) and I don’t really see any chemistry between Piper and Jason (I feel like they’re on very different paths from each other and Piper stagnates greatly in favour of supporting jasons development) but I think literally every other Good Guy character had the potential to not need romance in their arcs. Frank could have been raised to praetor by consensus and recognized by his peers and grandma, actively validating his growth rather than him achieving great feats and no one noticing or really caring except for Hazel. Hazel could’ve been shown learning about the modern day with Frank and Nico during downtime and reconciling her identity and trauma with the diversity of today while discovering a new freedom in acceptance (from the Seven) of who she is from back then and who she may yet want to be (and also not dated a 16 y/o at 13).

Leo, Reyna and Nico were the main ones I was thinking would forgo the need for a partner at least as a necessity for their growth/healing as all three have severe familial trauma, are distanced from other demigods socially somehow, and all were explicitly ousted from conventional romance in-writing.

Initially with Leo I had hoped he would confront his struggle being the “seventh wheel” by expressing how he was feeling overlooked as a friend (and as the ONLY shipwright) in favour of everyone’s romantic interests, which would lead into further emotional vulnerability in the party but, that never happened save for a few stoically non-communicative gestures of support to Frank and otherwise weird hang-ups on Hazel before he fucked off to Calypso, letting his friends think him dead for weeks. Leo lacked connection and felt inferior and less important than the rest of the Seven and the narrative validated that by only fulfilling him through an a Rapunzel-like hot babe trapped on an island who is physically dependent on his emotional dependence on her. That’s not a recipe for healthy relationship! I related to Leo initially as an aromantic person with 9 siblings, half of whom are already coupled so it was very disappointing when I realized by the third book that RR just didn’t take what was to me the most obvious arc for a character who is vitally important to a team but least noticed. Also the Hazel-Frank-Leo pseudo-love shape didn’t need to happen, at least in the way it did, and I think the Leo-Hazel-Sammy weird love thing was stupid.

I think Nico and Will are a very cute couple and I’m looking forward to reading their book when I come around to it but I felt unsatisfied that the thing that got Nico to stay at camp after 5 books was a guy who had little significant presence until the last book and not like, any of the other deeply important connections he made during his journeys? Nico’s been talking about never returning to either camp for a while and none of the Seven or Reyna (I think) thought to check in with him? I get that Will is supposed to be like the first person to insistently want Nico around but if Will really is the first then that’s kinda fucked up given the whole like, eight books worth of people he’s met. It’s a bit fucked up that after years of Nico’s presence, seemingly the first connection to anchor him down is an unspoken suggestion of a romance

Reyna’s character journey confuses me because I don’t if I missed or forgot it but I don’t remember her having a conclusion to her internal struggles. Aphrodite telling her she’s doomed to singledom gets brought up again and again and it’s mostly just to make you feel bad for her. She doesn’t tell anyone else. She doesn’t seek fulfillment in the platonic or familial connections she has. They visit her house, trauma dump about her abuse AND fakeout her sisters + the hunters + the amazons deaths just to have Reyna be even more hurt. Reyna and Nico come to understand each other while they’re travelling but by the conclusion of the series she’s just gone back to her isolating and stressful role as the praetor, but now with more work to do! Aphrodite’s words are never explained and their veracity is never tested and all it serves is to give Reyna more misery porn.

I guess what I’m saying is I think the story would have been better if The Seven & Co had a little more connection with each other and not just with their respective partners and if we could have seen some internal growth come from that.

Taking a coin out of her pocket, she rolled it across her knuckles, back and forth. It gave her hands something to do, and prevented the urge to bite her nails, something she hadn’t done in years. Ten minutes passed, then twenty. Zara began to pace as Rook’s breathing grew shakier and the color drained from his skin. Where the hells is Jay? she wondered. The room was so quiet that she could hear every tick of the small clock on her bedside table, and each one echoed in her head. How many ticks does he have left? She didn’t want to think about it.  She’d had crew members die before, of course. You don’t go as many years as a captain as she had and never lose a soul. But all the others who had died had died quickly, in combat. She’d mourned for all of them, even shed tears in private, but there was something different about watching the life drain out of a person right in front of your eyes.

Referencing this post- long reply but I give a few pointers in these fics' direction at the end!

I'm gonna be so honest anon, I'm not sure I want to actively rec some of them 😭 A lot of them are very of-their-time (usually 2007-2013) and, while HILARIOUS, often contain things that I really don't want to 'recommend' (homophobia, sexism, a lot of slutshaming, some REALLY out of pocket stuff that is not properly warned for, etc). OBVIOUSLY I am not reccing the yikes of things so much as the rest of it (the hilarious unhinged side), but the current fandomscape leans bad-faith and assumey and I'm just not keen to fuck around and find out tbh. Ye olde fic reccing takes a level of understanding of other time periods and attitudes and customs in fandom and on FFN that I'm... not sure that all of tumblr is always very good at tbh lol. If you guys really want me to and if we can all understand that it was a different time and that enjoyment of batshit insane fics does not equal agreement with everything said or depicted in them, then come back and I'll consider it again. But for now, I'm MORE than happy to tell you guys the best ways to find them on your own lmao. It's not hard once you get it down, and anything I'd rec, I've found through this method.

First off, FFN's search system is just frustrating imo. Between a less-than-intuitive UI and people not bothering to tag characters and ships and genres properly, using it the same way you'd filter stuff on Ao3 is a fool's errand (unless you're doing it by word count/completed/etc, which is objective and automatically tallied I think). You're better off using key words. I usually ignore the filters. The only thing I filter by is fandom at the start page (all of Pokemon is under 'games' in FFN and I don't bother narrowing it down to animeverse personally due to aforementioned mistagging or an entire lack thereof).

So, what key words do I use? When looking for that specific brand of insane campy 2000s kitschy wild unhinged stuff, I usually default to searches like "PS CS IS" (poke contest ikari, there's a lotta stuff in there, sometimes there's ORS/LGS/OS/ES/AS etc and you won't always know the acronym and it's just a surprise tbh) or trope related searches like "Assassin" or "High school" or "Vampire" other words you might find in a summary. You can also search by character names (in the search bar and not in the actual filters, which are not reliable in my experience). I'd say to go for tropes and AUs as far as keywords go. I'd ALSO say to not filter by completed, because that'll filter out a lot of two-week-passion-projects that someone dropped as soon as it got flamed, and there's some fun ones in there.

That's about it, but if you find one good fic then it's worth checking the rest of what the writer has. A lot of them have a bunch of unfinished fics and there's some hidden gems. Have a good time reading, and the search is half the fun! Come back with any funny lines you find if you want :)
