I'm very happy to be making progress again on my beloved fic since the last-- FOUR MONTHS?!

No way, you can't tell me it's been four gosh darn months since... oh. Oh wait. No. It has. I checked. I made the note just to embarrass myself as a reminder. A stab at future me. Yeap. I did that. Welp. That's just how it is folks.

Anyway, my darling torment "We Fear the Cry of Monsters" fanfiction is taking off. It just passed 1,000 views on AO3 for the main body and is doing pretty well in other (smut) areas. Which is incredible. I'm so thankful for all the comments and the interactions I've received because of its contents. As a merge between the games Cry of Fear/Afraid of Monsters/ and "Grey", the themes are dark, morbid at times, and indicative of the interpersonal battles of self-control. We all struggle with something. To write about such specific traumas has been very cathartic toward my own. This project has helped me grow as an author and as a member of a weird and awesome community.

In this group of tales, Simon Henriksson takes on the challenge of facing the truth about what really happened to him on The Black Day - the worst event of his young life. Through moments of doubt, perseverance, and opportune interactions, the Author is able to uncover his memories both through a new novel entry as well as in the hospital where he permanently lives. Simon reunites with David, the man behind the wheel of the car that crippled him, who harbors a sinister secret. Grey, a companion from Simon's teenage days. Sophie, his romantic obsession. And Purnell, a pharmacist and mentor who refuses to give up on his patient. (Set in the aftermath of the events of the good ending in Cry of Fear - there's your warning for any spoiler alert concerns.)

I sure would love if you'd come have a peek if you're a fan of the strange, dark and mysterious delivered in story format ;) It's coming close to a conclusion. I can't promise when, but I'll be finishing this project as strong as I can. I'm excited for what's to come. Maybe I'll find you there... at the Source of everything.

Why Manga Asura does not Work as the final antagonist

Regarding the final bit of the Soul Eater Manga, there is a LOT that does not work.

Crona sacrifice and sealing the moon might sound good on paper, but it doesnt fit the themes of the story. Maka never really managed to hit the final note of her character development that anime Maka did, and at the very end regressed, as she rejected her father out of spite. Kid making peace with the witches was nice, but the manga never really delved into the conflict between shinigami and witches in full and what it truly involved, so the conflict being resolved was sorta half baked.

But one of the things i dont really see brought up that often is how the final villain Kishin Asura does not work. At least not the manga version of him.

He is frankly speaking, a terrible final antagonist for the manga. Not just as an actual character, but also on a thematic level.

Asura as a character all throughouth the story before the heroes encounter him on the moon, has been all about 2 defining aspects about him, two things that has defined his very being.

Overwhelming power, and fear. The Kishin that became THE moster of legend for the Soul Eater Universe, who killed and consumed his own weapon along with two other of Shinigami's Warlords(who may or may not have been great old ones as well) is legendary for his overwhelming power... But also being a massive coward.

Such a coward was he, that he eventually devoured his own weapon, his partner, rather than even risk the possibility that he might turn against him.

On paper, he sounds he is the perfect foil as an antagonist for the Soul Eater protagonist, especially the main character Maka. For a story that is defined by people opening themselves up to others, even despite the pain that might very well ensue from that, to have the villain be one who gave up on everything out of cowardice, and sought ultimate power in hope that it would lead to total safety for him rather than taking a risk on the dangers of life and bonds makes perfect sense.

However, there is a problem.

Namely that while Asura has the overwhelming power down pat, the coward is essentially a complete informed attribute.

While Asura has moments where he is seemingly terrified on the moon, this is not genuine fear. He is simply mocking the protagonists by showing "Fear" and basically saying "oh, how scary" in face of his foes.

It's not genuine fear. There is not a moment on the moon, where Asura is genuinely, honestly afraid of the protagonists.

Hell, not even at the very end, as once again he's being sealed away, does he show a lick of fear at the prospect of once again being sealed away in darkness.

Instead he shouts definatly that fuck you guys, i'll be back!

This complete of lack fear has two massive problems.

The first is simply that he's a BORING character.

Manga Asura is a boring villain. He is every single, bland, overpowered final boss that plagues shonen as a genre, withouth anything that makes him stand out from the mold.

As such seeing his conflict with the heroes is basically them beating up on a brick wall... Only at least most villains in this mold does have the satisfying moment where they do break, while Asura remains undefeated, thus leaving no sense of closure.

He has no charisma, he has nothing interesting to say, and he is not particularily fun to watch.

He is basically the exact opposite of his animated portrayal, who was a giant coward... But also had a surprisingly poigaint amount of things to say, having debates with his father during their final battle where the two beings who fundamentally could not understand bravery, tried to give their own viewpoints of what this bizarre thing could be.

And of course, because anime Asura really was a giant coward, and all his fear was absolutely genuine, when he finally breaks down at the end, it feels satisfying on a story level, because we understand how he ticks, and what has lead up to this point.

But it goes beyond just the fact that Asura is a far more engaging and dynamic character in the anime.

There is also the themes which the story embodies, which are explicitly rejected by the manga version.

Asura Looks down on Humanity, regarding them as Shingami's puppets, and scum.

More speciffically, the real reason he looks down on them is because of their, in his eyes, weakness.

When facing his brother, the only thing he cares about when comparing the two of them is strength.

Because that is the metric by which he lives his life.

He sought out strength with the goal of never having to be afraid again. He wanted to be strong to feel safe, to never have to feel fear, ever again, because in his mind, if he was the strongest, nothing could challenge him.

He rejected all bonds because he was scared of the possibility of being hurt.

In other words he is thematically the opposite of all of Soul Eater's main heroes.

He is the opposite of Kid, as a warning of what the Shinigami could become if he gave in to all his worst aspects.

He is the opposite of Black Star, as a man who sought the absolute top, but threw away everyone and everything that ever mattered to him to get there.

He is the opposite of Crona, who's is able to draw strength from one, single bond with another human being that is defined by love between the two of them, hard and painful though it might be at times.

But the single person who Asura is an opposite to is Maka Albarn, who represents absolutely EVERYTHING that Asura has rejected, and looks down on.

Maka is not a particularily strong warrior as far as Soul Eater's powerlevels is concerned. While far, far above the normal human limit in every physical regard, compared to the likes of endgame Black Star and Kid, she way below them in overall combat capacity.

But that is not why Maka is a great fighter. Maka is strong, not because of her base power being stupidly high, but her ability to bring out the best in everyone around her.

This is encapsulated by her abiltiy to bring out the best performance of every single person on her side through soul syncronization... Something she is only able to do thanks to her partner Soul, and the trial and tribulations she went through to get here, including both falling on her face along the way, as well as rejecting her feelings of inaduquacy when compared to the sheer power gap between her and black star.

And of course, her defining relationship in this series, her bond with Crona, is about doing the exact opposite of what Asura did with his own bonds to his partner and father, and comrades.

Asura killed and absorbed 4 of his own friends, and tried to do the same to his father, because he feared those bonds and the uncertainty they had... He rejected the best things in his life because he could not handle the fact that they were not certain things, that they could in fact go wrong... So he sacrificed them in exchange for the ephemeral safety of power.

By comparison, Maka refused to give up on her relationship with Crona, no matter how much logical sense it might make, and how much the people around her migth tell her it was the better option, because Crona mattered to her. The bond they shared mattered to her. The love she had for Crona was stronger than the fear of being hurt.

This is the reason why Maka is the Hero of this story, while Asura the villain.

In other words, even if Maka and Asura does not have a deep and complex relationship like many heroes and villains do, thematically speaking, they are the exact opposites.

Asura represents everything that Soul Eater sees as bad. Fear of others, cowardice, power for the sake of power, and rejecting an uncertain future.

Maka represents everything Soul Eater sees as good. Love for others, Bravery, seeking power not for the sake of yourself but for those around you, and having the guts to embrace the future, regardless of how uncertain it might be.

It is the reason why the anime final fight, despite some hickups and misteps getting to maka's charge up the hill and the final punch, works.

This was the climax of the story, and in the end, the story rejects Asura's claim of ultimate power being the key to safety from fear.

It brought all of Soul Eater's themes together in one, final sequence where Asura's ideals are broken to pieces in the face of Maka's hope, dreams, and love for everyone she cares about, just as decisively as his face was.

One of the Manga's climax's themes, is that Asura was... Kinda proven right by this ending.

The heroes did not in the end manage to overcome him, thus in it's own way, proving his faith in his own power right.

Rather than ultimately stating that power is ultimately meaningless, ephemeral, and not what actually matters in life, Instead Asura's strenght is allows him to live on to fight another day.

This his quest for power, and the sacrifices he made for it... Was actually kinda worth it in the end. Becasuse he was right. His godlike powers DID keep him safe and alive in the end, with the hope of one day breaking loose and continue his onslaught upon the world strong in his heart.

And that is one big denouncement of ALL of Soul Eater's themes, and it's overall message.

so in sea of mosters, Clarisse gets a ship of dead soldiers from her dad, cuz people who lose a war are indepted to Ares. In the books it was southern soldiers from the American civil war, but Disney likely won't use that for a number of reasons, so I propose: WW1 German soldiers.

think of this: twas too long ago for anyone to be alive who remembers it, still a famous war, Germans aren't afraid of their history, and also, Germany was in a severely rough shape after WW1 and the Allies cutting everything off from them. idk that just gives me "indebted to Ares" vibes.

Okay theory time. Vampire mythology could work as metaphor for a variety of things. In the context of a relationship (romantic or otherwise) I think it could explore a relationship with someone who sucks all the life out of you, but also a sort of "immortal relationship" in a sense that you never really get over this person or keep coming back to these unhealthy paterns or maybe just in the sense that you want someone to love you for all of eternity. Vampires are also seen as sinister and the they can only live in the dark, so that could stand for somthing secretive and forbidden. It could also be about her relationship with herself, maybe she is the person sucking life out of others, feeling wrong, like a moster, like a parasite, maybe she's hiding in darkness because she's afraid to be burned by the sun. Vampires are also obviously undead and there is a lot you can do with that, for example making it a metaphor for feeling like your dead inside, but you have to keep going. Of course it could also go into a positive direction, maybe a coming of age story, in the past few decades vampires have become incredibly prevalent in media marketed towards teen girls, we know that olivia is a twilight fan and has used it as musical inspiration before for her song twilight, so it's not unlikely that she'll draw from that again. Vampires also work well for that theme because they can be used to explore the theme of eternal youth, feeling immortal and feeling infinite, even the night setting works well for a song about being young. And a song like that could also lean into the idea of being sinister. The bloodlust of vampires can also be used as a metaphor (besides to represent sucking life out of someone) it could stand for always wanting more, craving love, craving fame, something like that. Whatever she does, Vampires make for a killer music video (pun not intended).

He always tried to appear unharmed when he entered the house. But his eyes and the slight twitch of his brow revealed how much his body ached with each step he took. You could never sleep when he never returned home, knowing he was out there in the city - likely injured.

When he did finally return home, you had the first aid kit that was bigger than the average households, but you wanted to be prepared for anything. And when he returned home, his hand on his side, you were by his side immediately, guiding him to the sofa.

Carter sighed as he took of his shirt, wincing and you stepped in to help him.

His eyes were on the floor as you dabbed the solution against his cuts, missing the way your eyes teared up at the sight of the bruises littering his side. He knew you wanted answers, so he explained what happened during their latest showdown with Vypra and how the team had lost the fight that night.

You blinked them away, turning to fetch a bandage from the kit, wrapping it around his waist. Once you were satisfied that he was going to be alright, you packed everything away, and took the bag to the cupboard in the hallway, letting a few tears fall.

You went to the bathroom, closing the door quietly, before sitting on the edge of the bathtub, covering your mouth as you let more tears fall.

You hadn't realized how much time had passed until Carter knocked on the door. "Everything alright in there?"

You wiped your cheeks, "Y-Yeah, I'll be out in a minute."

Carter's eyebrows furrowed when he heard the tremble in your voice, turning the handle, entering when it was unlocked. You turned, drying your tears on a towel.

"Y/N..." His concerned eyes met your teary ones.

He reached out to rbing you to his chest, but you moved away, shaking your head. "You should watch what you're doing -"

"I can hug my girlfriend." Carter brought you into a warm embrace, kissing your head. He noticed the way your hands hesitantly rested on his back and knew why you had hidden away. "I'm fine."

"I counted twenty six bruises, and at least five cuts. You are not fine."

Carter sighed, pressing his lips against your temple.

"One day I won't be enough..." You began, making him pull away to meet your gaze. "One day I'm afraid that you won't come back at all."

"I'll always come back." Carter placed his hands on your arms. "I promise."

You stepped away, "Don't make promises you can't keep, Carter." You walked away, heading upstairs and Carter sighed as he watched you go.

He steered clear for twenty minutes before coming upstairs, getting changed into his pyjamas, looking at you over his shoulder as he sat on the bed. You laid with your back turned to him, not sparing him a glance.

"You're right. I can't promise that I will always come back because each threat is different - stronger even. But I'll always fight to return home to you." As he spoke, he laid down behind you, placing a hand on your arm. "I love you." He kissed your shoulder and you closed your eyes, holding back fresh tears.

You turned around to meet his gaze, "I love you too."

Carter placed a hand on your cheek, kissing you tenderly. He wrapped his arms around you when you both pulled away, and you rested your head on his chest gently.

You were always concerned for his wellbeing during his day job as a fireman, but when he told you he had joined the Rangers, you were far from thrilled - aware the danger he would be facing was different. The mosters he was facing were reported on the news, and you feared that one day Vypra would succeed and you would be waiting for a man who would never return home.

But you knew that no matter what happened, Carter would go through hell if it meant seeing you again.

❇ hey Moon i made a very bad mistake. I mean its kinda not my fault but still it is my fault to some extent . i was messing around with how adaptable and good at surviving to say it the simplest. i can make my avatars because i was bored . well the answer is : EXTREMELY ADAPTABLE and well i made 3? new avatars... Accualy 2 avatars all of the avatars i made were put to a test of how good at surviving they are . their goal was : SURVIVE UNDER ANY CONDITIONS. All of them passed with 100% . to put them on that test i needed to cut my connection to them making them seperate enteties that can operate without me pozzesing them . i. Was observing each one of them with my overseer avatar to see how well are they at what i made them good at . after the test i regained the connection to them and they stopped being a seperate entity. I i would like to add that i was kinda basing these avatars off creatures from my world and other universes . well theres where the mistake occured or rather i say an error. The third avatar. The one that was doing WAY better than the first and second and must i say it was too good at surviving and adapting went rouge . by that i mean i was unable to regain connection to it - im not able to control it , the " avatar" became its own thing. i made a monster Moon. i didnt even wanna use this avatar i was planning on getting rid of it because it was just... Really hard to control it even before cutting connection. the ' avatar' looks as if Carrion moster from Carrion had an unholy child with Rot and some poor slugcat , its as big as a Miros bird at least the main body because the Legs can change their lenth ,it had the ability of the weird insects from the paincones - it can immobilize a red lizard in seconds , it also has the ability of Spitter Spider-paralizing darts , and big spider - it can revive itself for a short amout of time , and of course Long legs great hearing and the legs if it grabs you therses no escapin it , it also has way too many fucking mouths and eyes it grew them after i lost connection to it , it also can regenerate by eating . it can eat anything , its really smart too . i pray to whatever cruel god there is that this thing cant reproduce even tho i dont believe in god . its currently near Pebbles leg in the memory crypts massacaring Miros birds and i think its heading his way. Dawww I do remember this!! I've been really into Greek mythology over the past few years and Homer's lliad had always been one of my favorites!

You know- as a matter of fact that's something I indirectly referred too when I talked about the dark side of Malleus x reader. The thing is, the plot is technically Malleus x human and the immortal x mortal imbalance is kinda...depressing. The main thing I noticed is hoe most of the writers (including me) use nicknames such as 'child of man' or 'human child' or 'precious little human' when Malleus is trying to refer to (y/n) and honestly, we can't really find a replacement for this 'child of man' themed nicknames because they're somewhat of a Malleus-only thing but at the same time it's so adorable and sweet.

(y/n) is often considered to be Yuu in Malleus x reader fics and the dynamics are awfully beautiful and lovely. I know not many often see the dark side of this sweetness since 1) It's just fanfic & 2) The point is often getting to enjoy this cute romantic moments with Malleus in present and not the future, so that isn't much of a problem! Unless you think about the dynamics too deeply-

This is just the small summary of an old wip!

(y/n) is a mortal and the new Queen of Valley of thorns, Malleus's wife. They have a newborn daughter named Melrose, a beautiful fae child with dark hair, pale skin and her mother's (e/c) eyes. Several years pass and Malleus is living his best life ever with the one and only love of his life and their beloved daughter, unaware of a bitter truth: (y/n) is aging.

Soon enough, (y/n) breaks down, realizing that her life is coming to an end while her dearest Melrose is still a baby. To think that she'd soon be leaving Malleus and Melrose forever...without even getting a chance to see Melrose grow up and turn into the fair princess she always wished her to be.

Soon as (y/n) passes away, Malleus breaks, the one only thing Malleus can hold on to now is his daughter, your greatest gift to him. He cares and loves her more than anything in the world as she's the very last person he's got by his side, therefore he becomes overly protective; to the point of never letting Melrose leave the castle.

Melrose craves to see the world outside of his father's dark castle more than anything else, of course he does love his father and understands his pain and frustration after her mother passed away, yet... It doesn't hold her back from seeking a way out of these walls each and everyday.

One day, young princess, who is now a well-grown lady finally gets a chance to discover the world outside of this eternal cage, but it doesn't really go as expected; because young princess secretly gets to meet someone.

Melrose has been on her own all over her life, and the stranger she unexpectedly got to meet is the very first alive being she's talked to in years.

Princess slowly begins to become overly attached to her secret friend, to the point of going against his father's word and secretly leaving the castle at night just to meet the creature she desires.

Soon enough, Malleus realized the sudden change in Melrose's behavior, she look quite lively and...happy. Nothing could make his cold heart any happier than Melrose's smile does, he becomes lowkey curious to discover what the reason behind this beautiful happiness might be, but the answer is nothing he could be the least happy about: Melrose has fallen in love.

The bitterness and Malleus held after (y/n)'s death is brought back to him and all of a sudden, the fae can feel shiver running down his spine.

To think that Melrose, his one and only daughter and all that is left for him after these years would one day go through the same pain as him, all because of craving and needing another creature...

Malleus just can't let that happen, no, he just can't lose Melrose after he lost you.

He forbids her from leaving the castle and meeting that human ever again, just to meet her daughter's painful begs and cries.

She reminds her father of you, everything you once used to tell her about how you met Malleus and fell for him when he was going through the most desperate and loneliest moments of his entire life, just like what Melrose is going through now.

Malleus is terrified, on one hand, Melrose's words did shake his heart a bit, reminding him of each and every second he had beside you. Your secret meetings at ramshackle dorm, those glamorous seconds spent under the light of fireflies at the dead of the night. All of a sudden, he totally understands what Melrose is going through and hoe she's feeling, but at the same time, he's even more terrified of this now.

Melrose is going to end up just like him, even if he ever agreed to let go of her daughter after all these years, then what would he be turned into?

The pain, the isolation, the loneliness. If Melrose too leaves him he'd end up being just as isolated and feared as the witch of thorns herself.

He thought he'd found a way to change his fate... he thought falling for you had finally saved him from turning into the moster he's always been afraid of becoming.

Amphibia characters family make up

With True Colors about to come out the Amphibia fandom is alive with a buzz on the characters and I want to talk about one intrstesing topic that has played a role in the characters. That is the make up of thier families back home.

Anne  Boonchuy: We know that Anne is Thai American. Her parents own a Thai restaurant and have taught her to cook many of their dishes, I imagine that she helped out in their restaurant back home. In season 1 it is implied that her parents are still together, but in season 2 she mentions her mom a lot more than her dad, even going as far as to figh in a derby challenge to win her mom a souviner. This could hint to Anne being a mama’s girl back home, and just having a closer relationship with her mom than her dad. One final member of her family is her little rescue kitty domina, whom Anne definetly see’s as her baby, and was the first family member she admitted to feeling homesick for.

The Planters: We have all noticed that Mom and Dad Planter are nt around anymore. Given the mosters and dangers that roam amphibia it was pretty hard to imagine that they were just away n buisness trips. After The Rain confirmed that they were killed and eaten by a pair of Herons that invaded Wartwood a few years back. We also learn that during this attack Hop-pop was away on a trip. Because of this Hop-pop wrongly blames himself for the lose of his son and daughter in law, feeling like if he had been their he could have doen something to save them. Likely he would have eaten as well and Sprig and Polly would have been left with no one. Regardless this played a big part in how he raises Sprig, Polly, and now Anne. Why he has so many rules, acts overprotective most of the time, and why he t times struggles to allow hem to take the risks they need to.

The Flour’s and the Sundew’s: It is also worth mentioning that Sprig and Polly are not the only frog children to lack parents. We have seen no sign of Maddie and Her sisters Mom, or Ivy’s dad (all though one brief scene in Ivy on the run where Wally shows up right after Ivy’s mom mentions meeting her father on a trip had a few people wondering). It is possible that both these frogs were also caught by the Herons. IF so it could explain why Felicia takes her daughters “Training” so seriuosly, and why Maddie’s sisters are so attached to her and obsessed with spening time with her, as she could be the only other female in their lives.

Captian Grime: Or Grimithoy. In Barrel’s Warhammer we learn that Grime has a sister Beatrix. Beatrix controls the Western Toad Tower, while Grime until recently controlled the Southern Tower. This means that Grime and Beatrix are both very high up in the Toad Hiarchy. Like for all we know the Newts are the only ones above them. We also know Grime earned his rank for feats of ferocity he showed during his time as a Gladiator. Maybe Beatrix was one too, Toad females are shown to be warriors just like the males. It is also hinted that Grime and Beatrix have a rivalry going between them. IS it wrong that I want to see them have a match? Not to the death obviously, just to see whom is the tougher toad.

Sasha Waybright: We have gotten a good look at Sasha’s complex in the last few episodes. We know that her obsession with control stems from being afraid of losing control/having no control. We also see that despite the two of them clearly loving her, she is worries that if Anne and Marcy will not want her as a friend, should they stop needing her to get by. A lot of people have thoerized on how this relates back to her home life.She is hinted to be rich, she is mentioned to have a pool at her house. But some people have wondered if she suffers from abuse, a lack of love. That is a bit extreme though. Honestly what seems likely to me though is that Sasha is a child from a broken marriage, and that maybe she hasn’t really seen one her parents since the divorce. Nor being able to make her parents stop fighting could be where her fear of not having control comes from. Likewise if one of her parents walked out on her she could see that as “They didn’t need me so they left me”.

Marcy Wu: We know nothing about Marcy’s family back home. She hasn’t mentioned any of them and the many flashbacks we have seen of her life on earth are always of her losing herself in a game. Think about that, her whole life back home is losing herself in games and imaginary worlds, Marcy is also the one who has seemed in the least hurry to go home. Is it really any wonder fans theorize that she might betray Anne and Sasha to have them all stay in Amphibia forever. Anne and Sasha are the only people she is even implied to have missed, and as of the third temple she has them back while still being in her dream fantasy world.
