In Subcontractors of Guilt: Holocaust Memory and Muslim Belonging in Postwar Germany, Esra Özyürek describes the way that German politicians, officials and journalists, now that the far right is in the ascendant, have been cranking up the old mechanism of sanitising Germany by demonising Muslims. In December 2022, German police foiled a coup attempt by Reichsbürger, an extremist group with more than twenty thousand members, which was planning an assault on the Bundestag. Alternative für Deutschland, which has neo-Nazi affiliations, has become the country’s second most popular party, partly in response to economic mismanagement by the coalition led by Olaf Scholz. Yet despite the undisguised antisemitism of even mainstream politicians such as Hubert Aiwanger, the deputy minister-president of Bavaria, ‘white Christian-background Germans’ see themselves ‘as having reached their destination of redemption and re-democratisation’, according to Özyürek. The ‘general German social problem of antisemitism’ is projected onto a minority of Arab immigrants, who are then further stigmatised as ‘the most unrepentant antisemites’ in need of ‘additional education and disciplining’. ...
Netanyahu, too, has learned from Germany’s postwar efforts at whitewashing. In 2015 he claimed that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem had persuaded Hitler to murder rather than simply expel the Jews. Three years later, after initially criticising a move by the Law and Justice Party in Poland to criminalise references to Polish collaboration, he endorsed the law making such references punishable by a fine. He has since legitimised Shoah revisionism in Lithuania and Hungary, commending both countries for their valiant struggle against antisemitism. (Efraim Zuroff, a historian who has helped bring many former Nazis to trial, compared this to ‘praising the Ku Klux Klan for improving racial relations in the South’.) More recently, Netanyahu accompanied Elon Musk to one of the kibbutzim targeted by Hamas, just days after Musk tweeted in support of an antisemitic conspiracy theory. Since 7 October, he has seemed to be reading from the Eichmann trial script. He regularly announces that he is fighting the ‘new Nazis’ in Gaza in order to save ‘Western civilisation’, while others in his cohort of Jewish supremacists keep up a supporting chorus. The people of Gaza are ‘subhuman’, ‘animals’, ‘Nazis’. ...
In a more unnerving illustration of the postwar German-Israeli symbiosis, the German health minister, Karl Lauterbach, approvingly retweeted a video in which Douglas Murray, a mouthpiece of the English far right, claims that the Nazis were more decent than Hamas. ‘Watch and listen,’ retweeted Karin Prien, deputy chair of the Christian Democratic Union and education minister for Schleswig-Holstein. ‘This is great,’ Jan Fleischhauer, a former contributing editor at Der Spiegel, wrote. ‘Really great,’ echoed Veronika Grimm, a member of the German Council of Economic Experts. The Süddeutsche Zeitung, which in 2021 ‘outed’ five Lebanese and Palestinian journalists at Deutsche Welle as antisemites, with equally flimsy evidence exposed the Indian poet and art historian Ranjit Hoskote as a calumniator of Jews for comparing Zionism with Hindu nationalism. Die Zeit alerted German readers to another moral outrage: ‘Greta Thunberg openly sympathises with the Palestinians.’ An open letter from Adam Tooze, Samuel Moyn and other academics criticising Jürgen Habermas’s statement in support of Israel’s actions provoked an editor at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung to claim that Jews have an ‘enemy’ at universities in the form of postcolonial studies. Der Spiegel ran a cover picture of Scholz alongside his claim that ‘we need to deport on a grand scale again.’ ... Susan Neiman, who wrote admiringly of Vergangenheitsbewältigung in Learning from the Germans (2020), now says she has changed her mind. ‘German historical reckoning has gone haywire,’ she wrote in October. ‘This philosemitic fury ... has been used to attack Jews in Germany.’ In Never Again: Germans and Genocide after the Holocaust, which examines the German response to mass killings in Cambodia, Rwanda and the Balkans, Andrew Port suggests that their ‘otherwise admirable reckoning with the Holocaust may have unwittingly desensitised Germans. The conviction that they had left the rabid racism of their forebears far behind them may have paradoxically allowed for the unabashed expression of different forms of racism.’

Name: SeeFels (Deutsch, means " rock in the open water")
Affiliation: Primal Vanguard [Retired, currently no faction]
Alt Mode: Interstellar Frigate
Previous positions: Scouting/Orbital Material Transportation
Current Residence: Stanix, Cybertron (near Vos)
Current occupation: Scenic innkeeper
Witnessing Cybertron's golden age of interstellar expansion and diplomacy, he saw more civilizations and the natural wonders of the universe than the average Cybertroians. When he was in the team, he didn't get too involved in the debate between the team members, just silently undertook and completed the assigned tasks, and chose to learn about the customs on a strange planet in his spare time after completion. But unlike the perception of general team members, SeeFels is not a lonely mech. During his time in service, he made quite a few friends of the alien race. Despite all of his radio communication, most of his alien friends were unaware of his Alt Mode, and even fewer know about his Robot Mode. Finally, when he was retired, he gave these friends the address of the Cybertron Inn he opened, and welcomed them to visit Cybertron for sightseeing. There were indeed many races who later went to Cybertron to support his undertaking. When they saw SeeFels in person, they thought his real appearance was very inconsistent with his active radio communication.
After retiring, although SeeFels no longer frequently crosses the stars, he focused more on taking care of his inn. But he still keeps in touch with his old teammates, and he also silently follow Cybertron's political changes. Smelling that there might be a large-scale civil war in Cybertron, he felt that it was a pity, thinking that the pattern of the Cybertronians had become smaller, and they would shrunk back to a planet from what they were supposed to be looking at the universe. Cybertronians would degenerate like some alien civilizations without stellar-travel technology. But he clearly know that his own strength could to nothing to stop it. Before the outbreak of the Civil War, he went to Vos and brought back a young Seeker with the most advanced design at the time. He believed that these weapons should not be thrown into war as soon as they are activated, and at least one must know what Cybertron is like and what Cybertronians should be aiming for outside of war.
He rarely speaks verbally, but he is very active in radio communication. After retiring from the Vanguard, he became an alcoholic. Later in the service, he befriended a female Cybertronian named Meteor and business the inn together. SeeFels went to Vos to bring back this Seeker named Thundercracker without the consent of Meteor, for which Meteor complained about him for a long time, but later accepted this new Seeker member.
[Meteor(Said to Thundercracker, pointing to SeeFels: Just look at him care about nothing. If he really made up his mind to do something, no one could stop him. ]

Profile : Spencer
Tumblr media
Full name : Spencer Reeves
YoB : 1989
Nationality : American
Affiliation : Behavioral Analysis Unit, FBI (field agent).
Based in : Washington, D.C.
Family : Father, mother, a younger sister.
Appearance : ETY 1.0, Spin-off : Anna.
Notes : Multilingual (English, French, Russian, Deutsch), left-handed
Early life
Spencer finished his degree in psychology and law before joining the FBI in 2012 and promoted as permanent member of the Behavioral Analysis Unit in 2015 alongside of Emma Kensington. Trained in field mission as well as suspect interrogation, Spencer was one of the most prominent member of the team, frequently sent out for multinational cases for his multilingual talent (and his prowess in acting to know one when he actually doesn't).
ETY 1.0
2021
Port Reading
Spencer was first sent out to investigate upon reports of illegal immigration and concerns of trafficking near Port Reading, New Jersey in 2021, a year before the shooting of Theodore Haven. His team discovered a Russian-dominated community called Voronaskaya and a man called Yuri who seemed to be in charge of everything in the port. Although not finding anything suspicious, Spencer decided to keep tabs on the community for future references, seeing the community has decent resources and a strategic site for ocean traffics.
2022
Avalone
Spencer was approached by Emma in regard of a peculiar, cryptic crime-planning group chat activity by the name of Avalone, which claimed to be a heist team in pursuit of valuable possessions owned by a family whom identities were published as codes and puzzles. Although initially not seeing any purpose in participating and solving puzzles, Spencer and Emma were soon able to spot a specific member of the group directing back to the Voronaskaya. With the assumption of the community's involvement in the planned crime, Spencer and Emma got involved up until the finale of the heist, a Korean-influenced wedding ceremony located in a remote island. It was there that Emma first encounter a wounded Shaking, and Spencer had an altercation with Joan and Mark, all identified as part of the Voronaskaya community. Both agents were not involved in any of the commotions caused by the heist group and chose to leave immediately, and decided to keep all the events out of the FBI's tabs.
Emma's Death
The following day after returning to Washington D.C., the internal dispatcher of FBI notified Spencer of an emergency notification coming from Emma's radio. Ignoring the team chief's instruction to leave the emergency for the SWAT to handle, Spencer arrived at Emma's house just moments after the SWAT evacuated Emma's dead body from her house, along with a note left by the suspect of the murder telling her to 'not snoop in what she shouldn't'.
This event has taken Spencer's seriousness in
Spin-off : Anna
Spencer was tasked for the investigation of several unlicensed lab-like warehouses in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio, which has been found housing thousands of mice, hazardous materials, medical waste, and infectious agents. His investigation has led him to a newer chain of warehouse on the border of Harriman State Park, which is passed by Interstate-287 Highway. His investigation is preceded by Anna who accidentally finds one of the warehouses on reports from several interstate truck drivers.
Spencer then settled to investigate the biohazard case with Anna in NYPD jurisdiction in regard of the ownership of the warehouse, how it spread across the Americas, the whereabouts of other warehouses, and the implication of mutant mice that already had disease-spreading genes in them.

Plurality of Americans say NPR, PBS should be federally funded: Survey
by Dominick Mastrangelo March 26, 2025
A plurality of surveyed Americans say the federal government should continue to fund public broadcasters, according to a new survey.
New polling from Pew found 24 percent of surveyed Americans say the U.S. government should not continue to send taxpayer dollars to NPR and PBS, while a larger slice, 43 percent, say federal funding levels to those outlets should stay the same.
The same survey found 32 percent of Democrats say they regularly get news from NPR, compared with 9 percent of Republicans. Thirty-one percent of Democrats regularly get news from PBS, compared with 11 percent of Republicans who said the same.
The survey’s results were published the same day the heads of NPR and PBS, Katherine Maher and Paula Kerger, respectively, were grilled by lawmakers on Capitol Hill over their outlets’ editorial practices and funding models.
Maher told lawmakers her organization took in just more than $11 million in federal funding last year.
President Trump and Republicans have accused public broadcasters of bias against them, and some have called for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to be shut down completely.
The Pew survey was conducted March 10 through 16 among 9,400 respondents.

From The Conversation via RNZ:
Does the end of Voice of America leave a void for China and Russia to fill?
By Valerie A. Cooper 25 March 2025
Of all the contradictions and ironies of Donald Trump's second presidency so far, perhaps the most surprising has been his shutting down the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) for being "radical propaganda".
Critics have long accused the agency - and its affiliated outlets such as Voice of America, Radio Free Europe and Radio Free Asia - of being a propaganda arm of US foreign policy.
But to the current president, the USAGM has become a promoter of anti-American ideas and agendas - including allegedly suppressing stories critical of Iran, sympathetically covering the issue of "white privilege" and bowing to pressure from China.
Propaganda is clearly in the eye of the beholder. The Moscow Times reported Russian officials were elated by the demise of the "purely propagandistic" outlets, while China's Global Times celebrated the closure of a "lie factory".
Meanwhile, the European Commission hailed USAGM outlets as a "beacon of truth, democracy and hope". All of which might have left the average person understandably confused: Voice of America? Wasn't that the US propaganda outlet from World War II?
Well, yes. But the reality of USAGM and similar state-sponsored global media outlets is more complex - as are the implications of the US agency's demise.
Public service or state propaganda?
The USAGM is one of several international public service media outlets based in western democracies. Others include Australia's ABC International, the BBC World Service, CBC/Radio-Canada, France Médias Monde, NHK-World Japan, Deutsche Welle in Germany and SRG SSR in Switzerland.
Part of the Public Media Alliance, they are similar to national public service media, largely funded by taxpayers to uphold democratic ideals of universal access to news and information.
Unlike national public media, however, they might not be consumed
or even known - by domestic audiences. Rather, they typically provide news to countries without reliable independent media due to censorship or state-run media monopolies.
The USAGM, for example, provides news in 63 languages to more than 100 countries. It has been credited with bringing attention to issues such as protests against COVID-19 lockdowns in China and women's struggles for equal rights in Iran.
On the other hand, the independence of USAGM outlets has been questioned often, particularly as they are required to share government-mandated editorials.
Voice of America has been criticised for its focus on perceived ideological adversaries such as Russia and Iran. And my own research has found it perpetuates stereotypes and the neglect of African nations in its news coverage.
Leaving a void
Ultimately, these global media outlets wouldn't exist if there weren't benefits for the governments that fund them. Sharing stories and perspectives that support or promote certain values and policies is an effective form of "public diplomacy".
Yet these international media outlets differ from state-controlled media models because of editorial systems that protect them from government interference.
The Voice of America's "firewall", for instance, "prohibits interference by any US government official in the objective, independent reporting of news". Such protections allow journalists to report on their own governments more objectively.
In contrast, outlets such as China Media Group (CMG), RT from Russia, and PressTV from Iran also reach a global audience in a range of languages. But they do this through direct government involvement. CMG subsidiary CCTV+, for example, states it is "committed to telling China's story to the rest of the world".
Though RT states it is an autonomous media outlet, research has found the Russian government oversees hiring editors, imposing narrative angles, and rejecting stories.
Other voices get louder
The biggest concern for western democracies is that these other state-run media outlets will fill the void the USAGM leaves behind - including in the Pacific.
Russia, China and Iran are increasing funding for their state-run news outlets, with China having spent more than US$6.6 billion over 13 years on its global media outlets. China Media Group is already one of the largest media conglomerates in the world, providing news content to more than 130 countries in 44 languages.
And China has already filled media gaps left by western democracies: after the ABC stopped broadcasting Radio Australia in the Pacific, China Radio International took over its frequencies.
Worryingly, the differences between outlets such as Voice of America and more overtly state-run outlets aren't immediately clear to audiences, as government ownership isn't advertised.
An Australian senator even had to apologise recently after speaking with PressTV, saying she didn't know the news outlet was affiliated with the Iranian government, or that it had been sanctioned in Australia.
Switched off
Trump's move to dismantle the USAGM doesn't come as a complete surprise, however. As the authors of Capturing News, Capturing Democracy: Trump and the Voice of America described, the first Trump administration failed in its attempts to remove the firewall and install loyalists.
This perhaps explains why Trump has resorted to more drastic measures this time. And, as with many of the current administration's legally dubious actions, there has been resistance.
The American Foreign Service Association says it will challenge the dismantling of the USAGM, while the Czech Republic is seeking EU support to keep Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty on the air.
But for many of the agency's journalists, contractors, broadcasting partners and audiences, it may be too late. Last week the New York Times reported some Voice of America broadcasts had already been replaced by music.

Castleforge secured €136.8m loan from Cheyne for UNO (GB)

Castleforge secured €136.8m loan from Cheyne for UNO (GB)
Castleforge announces that it has successfully secured a c. €136.8m senior loan facility from Cheyne Capital (Cheyne), the global alternative investment manager, and affiliates of Apollo to support its landmark redevelopment of London’s 1 Golden Lane, a prime office scheme in the City of London, expected to be completed in Q1 2026.
Acquired by Castleforge in November 2021, 1 Golden Lane—to be known as ‘UNO’—is situated between the historic Barbican and Golden Lane estates within the Square Mile and will offer around c. 11,148m2 of high-quality, Grade A commercial space within four minutes of the Elizabeth Line at Farringdon Station.
The development is a Grade II listed site and was designed by Sidney Smith, the original architect of Tate Britain. Its heritage features will be retained throughout construction, including the original elements of the façade, which date back to 1896.
Midgard has been appointed as the main contractor to oversee the c. €71.4m construction project. The works will include a pioneering reuse of over 20 tonnes of original steel from the site and will deliver c. 650m2 of terraces, c. 371m2 of communal workspaces and an additional three levels.
Preliminary works, including the reclaiming of existing steel, have already been completed, with the main works having commenced in August 2024.
UNO will retain 95% of the existing building and places sustainability at the core of the development. The development is targeted to achieve BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and will offer integrated urban greening designed by Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medallist, Andy Sturgeon.
The site’s central London location and outstanding sustainability credentials are consistent with Castleforge’s commitment to delivering Grade-A office space, fit for ambitious occupiers. Castleforge will be launching the marketing suite later in 2024 for potential occupiers to explore leasing opportunities with the site.
Castleforge believes that there is a significant under-supply of this calibre of offices in central London, which it is looking to rectify with this development and its other landmark redevelopment of 75 London Wall, Deutsche Bank’s former London headquarters, acquired in 2023.
Michael Kovacs, Founding Partner of Castleforge, said: “High-profile firms need best-in-class office environments, especially at a time when employees are now either in the office full-time or hybrid working and require exceptional sustainability certifications to keep pace with ESG commitments. UNO will provide office spaces fit for blue chip occupiers looking for a new central London headquarters and highlights our commitment to investing in London’s sustainable office market.”
Andreas Dimitriou at Cheyne Real Estate commented: "The demand for premium office space in central London remains strong, particularly for properties that combine high-quality facilities with expansive green space. Castleforge has a proven track record of executing ambitious, innovative, and sustainability-led developments in the UK and Europe. We are thrilled to be partnering with the team again, alongside Apollo, to create a best-in-class workspace with the highest ESG standards at its core.
